Hey Omrax,
I was re-reading some of the gameplay stuff in My Enemy’s Enemy for my Topiary monster DOT post, when I came across this.
I picture Snouts stealing eggs and being chased by birds seeking revenge via a large catapult.
This went right over my head at the time but I remember being bugged by it. This time around though I think I've got it.
So, a belated … Nice One!

GM Burglar |

To those who care, here's some common knowledge stuff from other books! I'd add more, but the scenario lists some of this stuff with a Kn(L) DC, which I see none of you have. Also putting this stuff here so I can see it on-the-go for descriptive purposes.
TYMON
Size: Large Town
Leadership: conventional (benevolent dictator)
Alignment: LN
Base Value 2,000 gp
DEMOGRAPHICS
Population: 2,564
Population Type: humanoid (human 80%, half-orc 12%, other 8%)
AUTHORITY FIGURES
Ullorth Ungin, champion (male half-orc); Erevil Antelo, dean of the gladiatorial college (male elf); Barven Freth, arena fight
manager (male human).
The Arena of Aroden dwarfs the surrounding buildings and is the centerpiece of the town. Able to seat 2,000 patrons at capacity, the arena was built in the style popular in Taldor almost 2,700 years ago. A labyrinthine series of passageways under the arena allows for the storage of weapons, beasts, and props used in the various battle formats. Each official team has its own area where its members can change, practice, and plot their way to the year’s championship. Currently, there are 10 official teams, each with its own official color and insignia. Arena fight manager Barven Freth lives in a grand apartment attached to the arena and can be found in his offices working late into the night.
Fans that attend the various festivities at the arena have their pick of various seating choices, from the grand box seats with catered dining and the best view of the carnage, to the premium seats down close to the action, to the grandstand bleacher seats where fight fans cram onto stone benches and elbow each other to get a better view. Vendors weave their way through the crowds selling ale, turkey legs, and rotten fruit and vegetables which fans can use to show their displeasure with a certain gladiator. In the Grand Concourse, other vendors sell banners with the colors of the official teams, and children can buy wooden replicas of the armor and weapons that their favorite warriors use in the arena.

Starting with Season 4, scenarios are designed for six characters and contain instructions on how to adjust the scenario for four-character parties. When the APL of a table is between two subtiers (like APL 3 for a Tier 1–5 scenario), a party of four characters must play the lower tier without any adjustments for party size. A party of five to seven characters whose APL is between two subtiers must play the higher tier with the four-character adjustment
4 + 6 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 4 = 29 29/6=4.833333333333333 = We are still high tier, 4-player scale. If we get another player (one I know personally), he could play up to 5th and not push up the subtier, I think. Would such an addition be acceptable?
Actually, I better check my math; it's usually pretty wrong. 4 + 6 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 4 + 5 = 34 34/7=4.857142857142857

![]() |

I'm okay with one more. If you think he'll be a good addition, then that's cool with me.
What is your friend planning to play, if I may ask?

GM Burglar |

Hey! I have more friends than just him!
...
...
...alright, I sent him the text.

Welcome, Sethious.
So Burglar, we are playing subtier 6-7 with the adjustment for 4 players. Is that correct?
Air Bubble! Nice one, thanks Des. I forgot about that spell. Air Crystals are in the Pathfinder Society Field Guide and cost 50gp
Cleaver, how many games until you reach Level 5? Have you finished your Fangwood Keep game yet? Any highlights?

![]() |

Varg picks up two Aircrystals. I level after this one! I am at 11 XP.
Indeed, welcolm Sethiouis!
Fangwood Keep was successfully completed by my gaming group. After they inadvertently stumbled upstairs and suffered the wrath of all of the big bads first. The downstairs was a breeze, and the remaining tunnels were a successful crawl. They nearly lost two players on the upper floor, and survived by the skin of their teeth. The remainder was a bit anticlimactic.

![]() |

I just realized that after this scenario, Desmond has one more before he jumps ahead to Level 8, thanks to playing 4 scenarios with a 7-th level pregen.
He's going to tier out from some of you. I'm kind of sad about that.

![]() |

I hear you Desmond. I had my first character reach retirement a couple weeks ago and Dora is soon to be following.
I have a large gap to my next highest character, which is Omrax. You will have to bring Linnea up next.

![]() |

I know...Linnea's only been used in Tektite's games - as far as PbP goes. I got Maaarv too. Then there's Raoul, my snooty wizard that I think might mix well.
Question - If I play a level 4 pregen in a Tier 3-4 scenario, do I apply the chronicle when the appropriate character reaches 3rd level or do I wait for 4th level?

EndlessForms |

Technically you're supposed to wait until the level of the pregen you played.
*That being said, if the GM didn't write "played level X pregen" on your chronicle, no one will ever be able to tell.

![]() |

I'll do the technically correct thing, since I do try to abide by rules.

EndlessForms |

I've never played a pregen so I've never run into that situation. But it's not really a game-breaking thing in my opinion; I don't think anyone would be really upset by it.

![]() |

No, I'm going to wait, it's just one level. I'm just really happy with that particular chronicle sheet because it will let Raoul get a dragon faerie familiar.
I know - we kind of bent the rules a bit when Desmond and Peri bet the dust at Hinojai House. So I'm maybe coming off as a hypocrite, but I do want to follow the rules as much as possible.

![]() |

Of course you’re not.
You’re just looking for ways to make the game fun within the rules.
I like Desmond, Linnea and Maaarv. Don’t think I’ve met Raoul.
For what it’s worth, I think it’s the player more than the character anyway.

EndlessForms |

I don't remember bending the rules for Desmond and Peri when they died. The pregen sold a bit of her equipment to help raise you but that's within the rules. And there was nothing in the scenario that said you couldn't leave and then come back so going back to town for a quick Raise was possible. You guys were going to sell the equipment you had found so far but decided not to because technically that stuff is liquidated into your chronicle sheet gold so you couldn't really do that.

![]() |

That's right, sorry. I don't know how I misremembered that. I don't know how I got that mixed up. Things have been a little hectic lately, a little too filled with drama at work and home, and it seems some of that leaked into my posting.

GM Burglar |

If it was Hinojai, the closest thing to a problem might have been population limit in the nearby village (hence why I think they have you buy all your stuff BEFORE you get ported there), but that's a long-term problem solvable by having a cleric who can prepare Gentle Repose and walking for a bunch of time. I've never run (but almost died in) Hinojai, so I have no way of being certain.
I could have sworn there was a Brock post about not liquidating pregens for Raises, but I didn't find it at a cursory glance, so I was probably imagining it or confusing it with the "pregens can't sell equipment to buy OTHER equipment" bit.
Plus, honestly, this scenario here doesn't take place in a city of 5,000 or more, so technically, nothing is "Always Available and gear might be restricted" (not that it is in this case.)

EndlessForms |

Yeah, I didn't think about the population size thing at the time. It probably was too small of a town for that sort of thing but they did also have Kyra with them so she could have cast it and/or Gentle Repose and it all would have worked out in the end one way or another. But it's already done now so we'll just stick with the way it happened. It also made for some great role-play moments. (and the next few posts down)
I thought pregens couldn't sell equipment either but someone (a long time ago) pointed me to the FAQ or post where it said pregens could sell equipment to help get rid of conditions. Since death is kind of a condition, there you go.

GM Burglar |

Yup, right in the guide (at least it is as of the most recent edition.)
Equipment listed on the pregenerated character sheet may only be sold to clear conditions, such as death, during the play of the module and any remaining gold does not carry over at the end of the module.
Whether the intent was "anyone's death" or "the pregen's dead" is unsure, but the RAW is undebatable; nothing is illegal with liquidating a pregen for active spellcasting services. Liquidating a pregen for potions, scrolls, or making up lost wealth, however, is 200% wrong.

EndlessForms |

Yep. They were just selling her armor and a few other things to pay for the spellcasting service so it all worked out.

GM Burglar |

The outage yesterday kinda deflated any hope of getting a post out; one should be up soon.

Just heads up, I will be unable to post today. Day trip to lovely Elko. Won't be able to post until 9 or 10 pm PST.

GM Burglar |

Context clues from one of EF's games...
Traveling today (Yesterday) and tomorrow (Today) without access to my computer so I'll have chronicles and new scenario up likely Monday night.
I'd NPC him to do something, but I literally have no idea who he would target or if he'd buff Birdivan first or not.

![]() |

Indeed. We would've had a soaked barbarian.

![]() |

I do like playing a cleric. Even though my raw damage output is small, there always seems to be something I can do.
It’s kinda funny being fairly new to the game. I’ve read some of the discussion on the boards about the new classes, but I still get excited about level progression for a vanilla fighter or a new character concept for my next cleric. ;)

![]() |

Vanilla clerics can be pretty beastly melee, they just usually need a round or two of buffing before they wade into combat.
Also, I may have had flanks there, so for my own amusement... 1d6 ⇒ 3.
Woo....3 more damage!

GM Burglar |

For Varg's reference (and notice of 1/new), he must have been typing while I finished up the big post, so it is resolved. Hearty Halflings are Hearty, but thats what you get when you make a casty-based halfling with 6 strength. I mean, what are those 2 points going to go into? Intelligence?

GM Burglar |

Scaledown informational time (since it's wind-down months at work!)
Since it's not even a spoilery bit, for those curious...

GM Burglar |

I want to note that my knowledge of nautical information (like how ships work) is entirely comprised of "graduating high school," "playing the boat driver +16 profession (Sailor)(or +19, can't remember) at 1st level and +52 Profession(Sailor) drive check at 12th in S&S," and "Oh look I just finished Assassin's Creed 4 yesterday after buying it on Black Friday," so I'm bound to be wrong a lot. All I know for sure is that your current captain is supposed to be a northern Montana/Canadian-ish accent.
Also, having marathoned Assassin's Creeds I, II, III, and IV in less than a month, I don't think I'm ever actually going to forget Desmond's name (though I will ALWAYS think of it in John de Lancie's voice.)
