GM Burglar, I have a retraining a feat question for you.
- I understand that the formula in PFS is gp = 10 x level (say 6) x days retraining (5 for a feat) = 300gp
- Must own Ultimate Campaign
- Spend PP = days retraining = 5 PP in this example.
- Can’t retrain a feat used as a pre-requisite for a later feat.
I have recently realized Luisila’s BAB is too low to qualify for Manyshot at Level 7.
I was thinking about taking Toughness instead.
It would be better to take Toughness at Level 3 than 7. I took Precise Shot as my 3rd level feat. It is NOT a pre-req for anything else I have (I was surpised by this!)
Could I re-train Toughness for my third level feat and then take Precise Shot (for free) at Level 7?

Why would it be better to take Toughness at 3rd? You still gain all the HP for the HD you currently have and also continue to gain HP for future HD:
You gain +3 hit points.
Straight forward
For every Hit Die you possess beyond 3, you gain an additional +1 hit point
So all the HD you currently have are counted in this.
If you have more than 3 Hit Dice, you gain +1 hit points whenever you gain a Hid Die (such as when you gain a level).
It will give you the same benefit regardless of when you take it. The only reason it's worded so weirdly is so that taking it at first or second level gives you three HP instead of just one or two. So essentially after third level you can just think of it as 1 HP/HD or 1 HP/level for standard characters.
Unless I'm totally wrong, which could be the case.
And ninja'd by Baz. Glad to see I'm not alone. Usually when something like that pops up I think Oh no, I haven't been doing it wrong this whole time, have I?

If I'm getting your query right...
You are attempting to retrain our of your 3rd level feat (Precise Shot) into Toughness, then re-take the feat at 7th? The logistics presented are 100% sound. If you're going to take it later, however, I'd think it to be largely a waste of PA to train out of it any just get it back 3 (or 6 if you're slow-tracking) and just take it again later.
Though to actually answer the question in a sentence, "Yes, that look correct."
DOUBLE NINJA'd (and presented in a far more clear way.)

The way I read the ability is if you take it at say Level 7, you get the initial +3 and then +1 for L8,9,10 etc. whenever you gain a Hit Die
If you take it at Level 3, you get the initial +3 and then +1 for L4, 5, 6 etc.
Have I misinterpreted this?
Toughness
You have enhanced physical stamina.
Benefit: You gain +3 hit points. For every Hit Die you possess beyond 3, you gain an additional +1 hit point. If you have more than 3 Hit Dice, you gain +1 hit points whenever you gain a Hit Die (such as when you gain a level).
Hmmm ... maybe I have? That would be nice.

For every Hit Die you possess beyond 3, you gain an additional +1 hit point.
This line makes up for all the previous levels.
So if you take it at L7 you still get the initial +3, then the sentence above gives you +1 at levels 4, 5, 6, and 7. Then the sentence you bolded gives you a HP every time you level. So it ultimately doesn't matter whether you took it at L3 or L7, you'll get the same number of HP (7).
Assuming you took it at 3rd, you would have gotten the initial +3. Then every level after that as you leveled you would have gotten an additional +1. So it works out to the same 7 HP gained by 7th level whether you took it at third level or seventh level.

No problem! Just saving you some PP and gold!
