Heya. Was the intent here to start a new game of Council of Thieves using the same characters from a former group, or just to nab the same players and create a whole new team?
I was leaning towards creating a new party with the same players, ideally.
Ok, great! I'll come up with something that fits the AP.
Let me post my CharGen rules for it!
Method: 25-point buy
Classes Allowed: Any. I trust you.
Races Allowed: Core + Featured.
Alignment: Any, but non-evil preferred
Traits: 2 traits, no drawback
Wealth: Average starting wealth for class
HP: Max at 1st-level, Half + 1 + CON on level-up
Ooh, I already thought of something terrible to do class-wise.
I'm afraid I don't have that book, but if you want to build a character with that kind of flavor, I'll see what I can do to accommodate.
Hmmm, need to think of what I want to build for this.
Hey there!
Just waiting on replies from the other two now...
Ah, I forgot that the wacky class I had in mind uses a kind of card-deck mechanic that would be excruciating to do in play-by-post, so, on to another idea!
Here was the swordsage class, in case you were curious.
I think I should have specified previously that I'm fine with any 1st-party classes. If you *really* want a 3rd-party class, please run it by me first.
No worries, my backup plans are all much more conventional. :)
I'm here, reading through the player's guide and coming up with an idea.
I'm thinking of leaning into the Child of Shadow campaign trait, as someone touched by the weird shadow curse of the city, playing an Oracle with the Shadowbound curse and the Shadow Mystery.
Sounds neat!
Haven't heard back yet from my 4th invite.
I was hoping to invite TheNine to join us as well, but I haven’t heard back from them yet. Does anyone know if they’re still on the boards here?
They are, just have a lot going on at the moment, they'll probably pop by or give you a response in the next couple days
Hmmm, I do have an idea for a character using the Shadow Child trait but it isn't the only one that I have in mind so I am not set on that. I don't want to duplicate the campaign trait someone else uses so I am am still thinking of ideas.

I can go with other ideas as well. Possibly trying an Investigator for the first time, taking the Conspiracy Hunter trait.
I was hoping to have everyone here before we decided on characters. Would it be at all possible for someone to discreetly inform TheNine of their pending invitation?
I sent a message so we'll see.
oh hi... sorry just got over being like super ill... (at least for me there was a minor actual hospital stay which hasnt happened since well old army injuries.)
so what roles do we have covered and or still need?
We're still figuring that out.
Anyways, I'm happy to see you all again!
I have a plethora of ideas mostly leaning to the magical. although their is this druid idea bouncing about..... Ive an oracle/wizard build ive been dying to try out though
No one seems to have firmed on any character yet. I think someone mentions a "magic swordsman" and I was contemplating an oracle but haven't really thought too hard on it.
Now that everyone is all here, I wanted to ask something.
Regarding the rating of content here, what are everyone's boundaries when it comes to that sort of thing?
I suppose what I'm asking is if intimate scenes--if they should come up--should be kept to Private Messaging or if they can be hidden behind spoilers in-thread.
I think since at least two of you seem to be trending toward casters, I'll lean into the Investigator. I'm fine with either. We're all adults here. I've done spoilers and PM's so whatever the consensus is works for me.
I think I'll also allow you to use Background Skills for CharGen.
I once wrote a series of short stories that veered intot he adult realm of things on well a dare from an ex.... it has fan art. I wont be offended however things proceed...
So this being in an urban setting I'm sure we'll need a trapfinder, which is usually no problem with an Investigator, but... in a setting with secret shadow stuff roaming the streets the Lamplighter is so cool and thematic. It loses trapfinding though.
Would you allow this as my second trait?

Eh, sure. I'll allow it. Lemme read through the lamplighter to make sure it doesn't actually give up trapfinding...
Actually, the Lamplighter archetype doesn't give up Trapfinding--it only gives up Trap Sense. You won't need to take that trait after all.
So, for current character ideas:
Jesse Heinig: Not sure yet
Drogeney: Not sure yet
Mark Thomas 66: Lamplighter Investigator
TheNine: Oracle/Wizard or Druid
So now I am bouncing between the oracle or an arcanist, not sure which just now.
So I'm discovering that Investigator has more moving parts than any other class in Pathfinder but it's kind of fascinating.
Mark Thomas 66 wrote: So I'm discovering that Investigator has more moving parts than any other class in Pathfinder but it's kind of fascinating. Yep. I remember playing an Investigator for the Reign of Winter Adventure Path once--great for skills, but it took a bit for combat to be smooth.
Hmm. Dunno. May need to do the big beefy damage-absorber/dealer, given the characters so far. Possibly a magus, maybe a brawler.
Regarding challenging scenes, no particular barriers, though remember that stuff that's spoilered can still be found by someone searching your account online, while stuff in PMs can't be.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone's final characters. :)
Thoughts on a lizardfolk PC?
Well you definitely be out of place and looked at strangely, devils would likely get less side eye than a lizardfolk
Cheliax:
In Cheliax, a large kingdom in Avistan, Lizardfolk are often viewed with suspicion and hostility due to their reptilian nature and their tendency to live on the fringes of society.
Yeah, just ruminatin'. I was thinking of playing a big bruiser type character and realizing that PF, much like D&D, doesn't really support large creatures as PCs.
Jesse Heinig wrote: Thoughts on a lizardfolk PC? It’ll definitely be a strange thing, but I have no objections.
Just also wanted to point out that Council of Thieves is an AP that’s a bit more social-focused than Paizo’s usual offerings. So every PC having a social skill or two would never go amiss.
It's rough because the PF adventure structure typically requires someone in the team to have high hit points and damage mitigation, but those roles also don't tend to fit in with the "clever and charismatic rogues and mountebanks"-type groups that the AP suggests.
Yeah, the most charismatic tanks are Paladins and Cavaliers, though Inquisitors can get up there with the right selections. There's always Urban Barbarian.
As far as race there's tiefling (thematic with some good resistances), Aasimar, Drow
Well, there’s always the Vigilante class, or any of the class archetypes introduced in Ultimate Intrigue.
Also I am allowing Variant Heritages for Planetouched.
I have a tiefling gray paladin sitting around but not sure it's the right character for this AP. Vigilantes are interesting but hard to do effectively. Brawlers (which I mentioned considering before) have the problem of being light armor fighters, so they are really more strikers like a monk, otherwise I would probably do one of those and make the character a scruffy ne'er-do-well to fit with the rogue motif. The brawling blademaster archetype for the samurai would sorta work, but what the hell is such a character doing in Westcrown? Gotta keep chewing on this.
