As the group springs into action, Ennoia waits for a second as Grimdoc casts a spell to hasten his movement and rushes forward as Vladek and Qadathra sends out a bevy of buffs, focusing on Ennoia and granting her luck.

After receiving the witch's boon, Ennoia breaches the hallway as Joesef retreats past her, firing off an arrow as he moves, but the natural armor of the creature seems to be stout enough to deflect the fletching.

As Ennoia rounds the corner, she sees the bat-like woman finish casting a spell as the flowing runes erupt into summoned creatures. She also takes a better look at the woman. She appears to be a half-transformed monstrosity; one of her arms has almost transformed into a bat wing, her face and ears are mostly batlike, and patches of oily fur grow from her flesh.

With a growl, a fiendish cheetah appears directly in front of Ennoia and tries to maul her as the woman steps out of view and you hear casting once more down the hallway.

In order...

Ali rushes forward, eager to act, calling for his team to act in a merciful manner as Ennoia looses two arrows immediate, striking into the cheetah with ease, sending it back to Hell in a puff of methane and smoke.

Grimdoc moves past the fallen cheetah's location and moves up to the casting woman and offers her a chance for surrender, but this woman seems to be more feral than intelligent as she continues to cast in his face.

Vladek, choosing to add a form of control to the situation, begins to cast a spell as Qadathra does a seemingly useless action of making the sound of a larger cat behind the first cat. Everyone is confused but it doesn't affect that outcome of the fight.

Joesef, staying next to his ward, waves his rapier and shield about, hoping to keep any other fiendish animals from trying to eat her.

The bat-like woman finishes her spell, summoning another ferocious cheetah in front of Grimdoc as she takes a 5' step back and then blesses her self with a radiant aura.

Sanctuary; Everyone needs to make a Will Save to try and "directly strike" her. Do so at the time of your attack.

The fiendish cheetah rushes Grimdoc and tries to smite him to gain advantage, succeeding due to Grimdoc's good nature.

Sound suddenly ceases to be around Qadathra, who vanishes from sight (greater invisibility spell-like ability). Vladek moves forward, at which point the silence surges forth like an invisible wave, coming to rest around the chiropterine woman (as indicated by the gray rounded square).

Vladek twists time around the second cheetah to nudge it to its greatest misfortune (Misfortune Hex, Will DC 21).

As Ali overcomes the effects of the Sanctuary, so to does the bat-like woman overcome Ali's enchantment.

Ennoia, choosing to ignore the second cheetah, fires off a single arrow at the woman and it strikes her in the shoulder, but the telltale flash of holy energy doesn't erupt from the arrow as expected.

@Grimdoc: Not silently! Vladek hasn't acted yet!

Grimdoc smashes down on the fiendish cheetah, but finds that his hammer isn't enough to kill the creature, so Joesef sends a stab in and puts the feline aggressor down, sending it back to the Abyss. As he moves though, the cheetah lashes out at him.

@Joesef: Can't see how you got to your position without provoking.

Vladek, before Joesef acts, is able to finish casting his spell and sends the wave of silence into the room as he moves to get a better angle, unable to target the woman.

As she can no longer cast, it appears that she has fallen back to her bow in her hand. She steps back and fires off two arrows.

Grimdoc silently waits to see if the salvo of arrows drops the bat-woman. If not, he will move up and strike to subdue.

Ali delays in continuing combat as he feels a bit ignored by his team while Ennoia launches a salvo of four arrows, but only the first two actually strike, piercing the woman in the shoulder, making her shriek in the high-pitched tone of a bat.

Grimdoc sees that only two of the arrows landed and moves up to strike her, trying to subdue the aggressor. He overcomes the Sanctuary effect as does Joesef as he turns to attack her as well.

Grimdoc misses as Joesef tumbles in, uselessly somersaulting into range, before striking with a lunging pierce, but misses slightly. He wonders to himself if he could have hit if he hadn't needlessly tried some gymnastics. ;-)

Vladek and tries to curse the woman with his Misfortune while Qadathra is a silent dragon in the cave.

Stepping back, the woman continues to fight as she gives no signs of surrender.

Ali holds off even longer as Ennoia puts a single arrow directly into the woman's chest, knocking her to the ground. As the bow scatters across the ground, you see that she is not getting back up, though her chest rises and falls slightly, indicating that she is still breathing.

As you search her body, you find a +1 seeking composite longbow with 16 arrows, but nothing else.

As you knock her unconscious, the cavern that you are in shakes a bit, causing some smalls shards of rock to fall from the ceiling. This does not seem good.

Grimdoc looks up nervously, then nods to Joeseph (whether he hears him or not) and will try to pick up the woman and take her out of the cave, back down the tunnel we entered. Once clear of any lingering silence.

Joey, follow and see if you can stop her bleedin' - she may have some answers once she is revivable!

I was assuming that, one way or the other, the silence would have been lifted. Maybe not.

Joesef can quickly cast Stabilize to ensure that she doesn't die or her injuries while being moved.

"She's not dead, right? Good, good! Nice work stopping the bleeding, Joesef. Now let's get her out of here! Follow me!" With his quick sylph gait, Ali leads the way running from the unstable cavern, hoping the dwarf can carry the woman.

I mean, Ali could help, but it doesn't sound like something he'd do.


The group spends the time to dispel the silence and stabilize the woman-turned-feral-creature as Grimdoc hoists her onto his shoulder and they make for the exit.

The group makes it back to the rickety elevator and spends the several creaky minutes letting the old contraption take them to the top. As they crest onto the ground floor of the mining shaft, you can see that the outside's vibrancy and light is no longer beaming in from the entrance. In fact, the light of nature's illuminance has been replaced by some sort of creepy twilight.

You are currently in the mine and can see the outside into the creepy semi-darkness. There do not appear to be any enemies in sight.

Ennoia grabbed the bow on the way out, and used a wand to heal her extensive wounds.

The group heads outside after Ennoia heals her wounds. AS the group exits from the cave, the feel a rush of wind roll across their body, sending shivers deep into their spine.

As you look in the distance towards the town, you see that the clouds grow heavier and that there seems to be an unnatural darkness swirling about the sky above where you believe the town resides.

You hustle back towards town, reaching the town after about 45 minutes of hustling. As you move closer, the ominous aura permeates the air and the temperature has lowered by about 20 degrees, making your breath visible in the air.

You are on the outskirts of town. Do you head into town immediately?

Ennoia follows, bow in hand. She glances sideways, as if expecting something evil to arise. "We need to explore town, see if this ill weather had any effects on the villagers." she proposes.


@Vladek: You can make any number of Knowledge checks about anything written. I just need to know what you are trying to learn about the situation. Since you already listed Detect Magic, I will assume that you use the spell.

Joesef and Ennoia seem to be ready to venture into town, but Grimdoc seems to want to try and perform reconnaissance. Vladek, trying to get a grasp on the situation, uses Detect Magic and scans the surrounding areas. He sees various auras of magic pulsing through the region, but the type of aura and the power seem to shift and mutate, with a definite increase in power when the auras are closer to the city's center.

Yup. And there are no listed Knowledge checks at the moment, however if you had something interesting to ask about, I'd see if I could work out an answer.

The swirling magicks are too muddled for Vladek to make sense of what is being done, but you can be assured that it is something powerful, likely whatever the cult was aspiring to in the region.

As you pause without advancing at the edge of town, you take a second to take in your surroundings, however this proves fruitful, at least. You hear the sound of chanting, low and obscured, but it sounds like a large group of people and it is coming from the center of town.

48 hours have passed, so I am going to move the party based on Grimdoc's post.

Grimdoc, in his stout and wise manner, tells the group that he is heading into town before laying the unconscious woman on the ground and blessing himself with a couple of divine spells. The latter spell causes him to drift into the ether, invisible to the party as well as to the possible enemies.

Tiny depressions in the grass give the immediate direction of Grimdoc, but as he moves away from the group, they lose sight of his impressions in the flora of the area, especially given the twilight murk that they seem to be trapped in.

Realizing that Grimdoc is making his move, the rest of the party makes their way into town.

As you move into town, the sounds become louder and the chanting becomes clearer, though the voices and language are too foreign for you to understand.

As you peer around the corner of the apothecary's shop, you see that several of the townsfolk have erupted with varied forms of animal features. You spy several cat-eared women, a few elk-horned men and one elderly woman with the tail and teeth of a beaver.

They are kneeling in a circle in the town square and appear to be the source of chanting, which is reaching a fevered pitch. It doesn't appear that any of them have noticed your presence, but it also seems like they might not care based on their intense focus.

As Vladek scans the area with his special eyes, he sees that a multi-hued kaleidoscope of magicks is radiating upwards into the sky, which seems to have caused a swirl of dark clouds to being swirling above.

A) No, I actually don't, but I mentioned it for completeness and for whatever else it may happen to be worth.

B) I absolutely do. My first time DMing for Organized play was "The Sanos Abduction" specifically so I could get it under Vladek's belt as his 18th experience point (when I played it as a PC initially, it was wasted on, of all characters, my Summoner). As for why it wasn't in my Laurels spoiler...I think it's just because the Boon simply says "Faerie Dragon Improved Familiar," and since almost exactly those words would be the name of my 7th-level feat, I must have felt it looked redundant.

Don't go assuming it will "hurt us." Everyone's thought of that kind of thing, but I've NEVER seen anyone actually DO it, so I'd love to see that character in practice.

You guys are strong players, it was more a matter of party composition than anything. Joesef is sorta a skill monkey and I'm guessing we could use that. I also want to see how Joesef plays out since I haven't "played" him since 4th level or so, he got to 8th via credit from something EF ran. Bizzle can wait, there's bound to be some high-level scenarios offered sometime!

Before things go too far, I'm investing 4 PP on 2 scrolls each holding 3 1st-level, 2 2nd-level, and 1 3rd-level spells (25+25+25+150+150+375=750), and with my +24 Spellcraft, Qadathra will have no trouble learning them all:

As a matter of fact, add to that another 4 PP for a scroll with 5 2nd-level spells (150 X 5 = 750) and a scroll with 2 1st-level and 1 4th-level (25+25+700=750), and 1,125 gp for an additional 5th-level scroll.

DM, what would the proper Knowledge check(s) be with regard to this meteor and its distinctive weirdness?

Probably Knowledge Nature, but just assume that it doesn't sound like a meteor based on your cursory knowledge of astronomy. Anything else is so far out of left field that a Knowledge check just won't get you anything.

Joesef, have you considered taking Additional Traits so that you can take Magical Knack in either of your two mage classes? Just to be sure you're aware, it used to be illegal, but then it was legalized - the cool part about that: Because someone on these forums made a persuasive argument!

Unfortunately, I think you're stuck with your two starting Traits - regarding your reservation, bear in mind that Additional Traits grants you *2* traits (the idea being a trait is worth half a feat). I wouldn't be so reluctant, were I you; several of my characters have taken Additional Traits by now.

I took the liberty of looking up the Vrock's SR (didn't peek at anything else, though). Assuming this is a standard vrock, statistics-wise, it does.

I'm contemplating retraining into the Havoker Archetype from the Magic Tactics Toolbox (since I totally would have taken that if only it had been around 5 years ago) - mind helping me figure out the Prestige/gold cost?

Then again, saying goodbye to those Patron spells will be a bummer - and would the Kinetic Blast still be Constitution-based? :S

As for the Havocker, you can retrain for this price.

Unless stated otherwise, retraining costs gp equal to 10 × your level × the number of days required to retrain... To gain an archetype that replaces standard class abilities you already have, you must spend 5 days for every alternate class feature you would add, subtract, or replace by taking that archetype.

Havocker replaces or alters: Patron*, Hex @ 1st Level, Hex @ 2nd Level, and Hex @ 6 level.

*=The text on PFSRD states it alters Familiar, but it appears to actually replace the Patron. Looks like a typo, but I don't have the book.

You are level 9, so you would have to spend (10*9*5)*4 to replace all four abilities or 1800 GP.

Additionally, we look to the Guide to Organized Play on page 10.

When utilizing these retraining rules, you must expend wealth as outlined in the Retraining section of Ultimate Campaign, as well as 1 Prestige Point per day of retraining since time between scenarios is undefined.

Thus, it would also require 20 Prestige to retrain the archetype.

So, you are looking at 1800 GP and 20 Prestige.

Nothing indicates that the Kinetic Blast would not be Constitution-based. I believe you would have the exact same text as from the base Kineticist class as a Havocker.

Since he has moved, it now being a continuation of his turn, free action allows him to release on hand on pole arm and claw with cestus then re grip weapon . I agree he cannot do so on an Aoo . I will not post his swing until you rule. Alternatively free action on trigger to engage bramble armor and then spiked armor would apply.

You can ready a standard action, a move action, a swift action, or a free action. To do so, specify the action you will take and the conditions under which you will take it... You can take a 5-foot step as part of your readied action, but only if you don't otherwise move any distance during the round.

Action: Attack Action with your Lucerne Hammer
Conditions: If the Captain casts or attacks (I still believe you can only choose one condition, not two, but since it didn't activate, it is irrelevant.)

The Captain moves in and attacks, thus you cannot swing your hammer as you no longer threaten him AND you cannot 5' ft. because you moved this round.

Readied actions do not make it your turn, but merely move your turn to that initiative for future purposes, so you cannot perform a free action at that time, so both regripping and Bramble Armor would not be possible.
