I have made the Google Doc available…it was private previously. No moving the blank rectangles! :D Nothing to see behind the curtain!

In the only one other game I play (the only other game I've ever played), the GM always tells us when to roll for whatever. Is there some kind of trick or guide I can use to figure out when I should be rolling for things and what I should be rolling? It's such a n00b question. I realize this.
GM Axolotl |
Great question. I'll generally ask for rolls, but Perception in a room, or other situation appropriate stuff, is great from a proactive player. (e.g. you see a monster, you may want to try rolling the appropriate Knowledge skill.) It's not a n00b question at all!

Another example is the way he provided the sense motive with a DC, we had the option of rolling that to see if we trusted the lady and her story.
Formatting was a question for me at first, because how could I respond if I didn't yet know what my roll was going to be - so I figure from here on in I'm going to do my rolls in my post first, then edit my post to include all the character appropriate actions, speech, and descriptive text.

You can check what your roll is in preview mode, then adjust text accordingly.
Don't substitute one roll for another, though! (E.g. 'add' a skill roll during combat to change an attack roll). That's cheating! :p
Once someone makes a skill check, you can all look under the spoiler, by the way, and/or the character can explain it in character.

I'm not blowing tonight off. It's just that I only have six hours between the time I get home from work and the time I have to wake up for school on Mondays and Wednesdays and I should sleep. Fearless leader, I don't mind if my turn is taken for me this round. Regardless, I'll keep an eye on the board during school tomorrow and come back to play when I get home tomorrow night...at midnight.
I'm sorry. I didn't realize my schedule was going to be so bonkers this quarter.

And if you are concerned about game mechanics, we can all help you out. Tell us your ideas or intentions and we can assist.
The idea is to have fun--not be a game expert on Move 1. :)

What's the cost? Roll20 is nice for Chrome. I heard a vague muttering about Virtual Grounds costing something. No clue what happened to Paizo Game Space.
GM Axolotl |
I think it would depend on your style and preferences. I've been spending my moolah on Hero Lab, but mapping seems fine on Google Maps for this sort of PbP. I found Roll20 to be unnecessary, as Paizo has dice rolling and keeps it mainly in one place. If you can keep character data in Fantasy Grounds then it starts to gain appeal. (theoretically. For a theoretical me.)

Replace my parentheses with brackets:
(dice=Club full o' Nails)1d1000 + 3(/dice)
thusly.

VESILYX: Use Rope was a skill back in 3.5, I assume an equivalent is still present in PF.
The throw-rope-up-to-you check is actually (assuming it's the same for 3.5 to PF) an attack roll on the part of Andrea, usually DC 10ish, +/- for distraction and distance, with Rope being a 'thrown weapon with 10 ft range increments'. If successful, it lands in a clump at your feet, with the rest trailing down over the edge into Andrea's hand.
GM, please feel free to correct me or change rules as you see fit, just trying to be helpful :D

Just doing a HP tally (you're doing the same, right? :D)
Andrea: 9/12 HP
Auric: 11/16 HP
Imendri: 7/15, 3 of which are non-lethal
Vesilyx: either 9/10 or 8/10 after the Shocking Incident.
Might want to wave the heal-stick around. I don't think anyone was healed save for Imendri post-javelin, right?

I think the way non-lethal damage works is that I have 10/15 HP, and 7/10 non-lethal HP. Non-lethal damage is tallied alongside your current HP, and when it meets current HP you're staggered, exceeds and you're unconscious.
If I took 5 more HP damage, then my total non-lethal track would be 2/5 remaining (3 taken, and 2 remaining before stagger, 3 remaining before knockout).
This is what I have running on a notepad on my desktop at work and home, but I can edit it depending on your ruling for the way it works.

The Master of the Master of the Fallen Fortress (that's me) will be gone up North from 6/3-6/7. I won't be able to post much during that time...in the meantime, please enjoy the sumptuous amenities of the Fortress.

And, having defeated the mighty door, the heroes went home. They knew their tale would be unbelievable, that the townsfolk would balk, mock, and question at every opportunity, but their bravery would be known to each other.
The door stood, some say for ages, until it met those brave adventurers. Rest in peace, door - or should I say "Rest in pieces."?
XP?!
