Hi all, this is where we out BLUE text, or Questions etc, chat and talk.

Hey Panic, first of all thanks for running the game, I love your GM style. Ok, I dotted and deleted in game. I'll finish up Navarre's backstory and get a post up by tomorrow midafternoon. (the morning's going to be busy)

In reference to the setting, since everyone are law abiding citizens, I'm not going to have his brother doing stuff illegal. But what is the attitude towards 'off-worlders'? You compared the clan system to 'Dune' But it doesn't feel like we're combative towards off-worlder. But as a society how do we treat them. Do they treat off worlder's respectfully and totally on the up and up? Or is it more the way 'belters' view 'inners'? Sort of a 'buyer beware' kind of mentality.

Man, I just read that, I hope it make sense.

Edit: Also, I asked somewhere else, is there weapon (shotgun or snub pistol) part of there 'free equipment'? Or does it have to be there 'free' personal item found at TL6

If you want a stub pistol or shot gun, use your one item for free to get it :) so yes free. and 24 rounds,

'off-worlders'? are seen with suspicion at best, our right hostily if they come into clan territory with out asking and being escorted, The clans dont have much, land and junk and whats left to mine, but they do not take kindly to others taking what little they have.

Very much then Or is it more the way 'belters' view 'inners'? Sort of a 'buyer beware' kind of mentality.

And like DUNE they are seen as soft. Remember the rock breeds hard people, you stronger faster, smarter then most other non Rock humans.

They only other in systems humans you respect are maybe Belters and other 'spaceborn' Who live in hardy places like yourselves.

Hey RH! I hope you don't mind that I decided Nathan & Navarre know each other. I want Nate to be able to know about Xeno medicine from knowing the Vargrs on The Rock a little better than some people.

Obviously Nathan came in behind Navarre and only just then saw him start to "operate" on his ec tester.

Cool, My assumption was that we would all know each other since we were from the same clan.

That seemed reasonable to me too, but I wasn't sure how big the clan was :)

Hi everyone, I see some familiar "faces", glad to see you again.

As a general note I'm a senior citizen with many decades of role-play experience. I first played first edition Traveller in 1978 just one year after its release. Not played it often since but still look for games when they appear. I'm now in the Eastern time zone of the U.S.A.

With the small size of the clan I'm sure everyone has, at least, met everyone in the shaft. But with long study and work hours, true friends are likely less common, just not enough time.

GM_Panic : Just how often do people leave the shaft and where do they mostly go? Elsewhere on the rock or off-world? How does the clan view those that leave? As the lucky one? Indifferent? Or like the Amish to be shunned or worse if they leave? Is it even legal or is leaving an escape like Logan's Run with the Guard on the heels of the those so ungrateful as to abandon the clan?

Same here I got the 1st week black book after seeing Star Wars when it came out the 1st time. Haha.

No one you know of has ever left the rock, there is the Post City, where the space port is. But thats 1000s of miles away, Clan members do form time to time make trips there but the last one was if your grand parents age some 40 years ago. But your not cut off your trade with other clans and also traiders come around form time to time. They go over land in wheeled truck-trains they own.

Played my first game of Dnd first Sat. in June a few weeks after Star Wars first appeared. It was of course original DnD before Advanced or Basic set DnD ever existed.

Okay GM__Panic but I did add a setting item of a battered but functional cargo plane that forms a good chunk of my background, something like the very reliable DC-3 last produced in 1943 civilian or 1950 military still flying today. (Note not a real 1943 DC-3 after 37 centuries, an authentic working one would be more valuable than the planet maybe the whole system!) So there may be some longer trips for meetings, rapidly getting parts, medical purposes, etc. Up to you of course but if no plane I have to rewrite my background and skill choices.

Yep, two old men remembering the "good old days" before the young whippersnappers as eyes are rolled. :)

Well, you fellows are making me fell young, I didn't purchase the 'black books' (and their box) until 82, a year after I started playing AD&D. But it was my freshman and sophomore years of college.

There is no Amos on The Rock so to speak, flying is going to be hard, and there is no anti grav in this setting. I think I did put that somewhere, Anyhow,

How about we go with this. Your family 'Birth Marriage' has an Cargo ATV, keep your flying skills, I will give you alone Driving ATV 0 as a skill. So you get the group around, And you know the way to the closes other Clans if you took Nav skill. It pulls wheeled sleds of cargo.

NNORTH-POLE USSR era ATV IMAGE HERE + VIDIO HERE About it.

The Clan has just one of these, IMAGE HERE that is moved by the clans scappers to a location they are going to work at.
It has two cutting/Mining lasers on the top. Is large but its base camp, for the scappers. The clan at a push can up sticks and all get on it to move to a new location.

Yep, two old men remembering the "good old days" before the young whippersnappers as eyes are rolled. :)

In full transparency, I am not young, like at all, but to me it sounds as though you guys played directly with Gary "Kill all the Players" Gygax. Wow. That said, watching that scene in the beginning of Stranger Things when the guys were all down in the basement playing DnD did kind of make my heart sing. We used the original pale blue book so much that the binding and pages started to fray, same with the little AD&D books.

Traveller was amazing to me ... and still is tbh. By the time RH was graduating college, I had probably read the original "Adventure Path" - The Traveller Book (1983), oh, 100 times. The idea that so many adventures were strung together in one plot was amazing to me.

and here we are :)

So the surface is littered with open cast sites, refinery plants and Hav-blocks now Abandoned, Deep Mines and caves. Its a place of wast heaps broken sites and recked giant mining kit.

You live in a subterranean habitat called 'Shaft 3' No one knows why its called that it just is. The Biggest subterranean habitat called Port City, becouse it has a space port is some 500 mines away over rock.

I'm making the revisions to match what you want of course. I went by the UWP Atmos code of 2 the is very thin, tainted atmosphere at .2 earth sea level pressure, needing at least respirators and filters. That's 20% of earth sea level pressure and the USA flew a helicopter on Mars on less than 1% earth pressure so I thought a plane would be okay. Sorry, cannot change his clan name now 10 posts reached.

Dropped Explosives for Flyer 0, changed Flyer(Wing) +1 for Driver(Wheeled) +1

Since I lived in Chicago at that time it would have been possible but sadly never happened. I only went to Lake Geneva after Gary and Dave had passed. In retrospect a missed opportunity.

Well already running into the problems with 1st Edition Mongoose Traveller vs 2ed. I can run sensors and with mechanic fix some stuff but not really do deeper stuff, not unrealistic but also doesn't make for smooth gameplay. In this case he knows what needs to be done but not how to do it.

I'd like a little clarification on this world. An atmosphere of 2 is technically breathable with aids. At 1 is basically Mars, 0 is the moon. The UWP/UPP (Note:Universal Planetary Profile was changed to Universal World Profile to reduce confusion with the Universal Personality Profile.) given was A425BCG-2 that does not match the description of the 8,000 population of the Rock. While the Traveller default is to only list the Mainworld UWP In this case it would be good if we had the UWP for each of the three inhabited worlds.

It seems to me that if vacc suits are required, that the atmosphere code should be 0 or 1. 0 would match the map we found (little to no signs of erosion). 1 would match the picture of our world provided better though. If there is a measurable atmosphere what is it made of? If Oxygen is in any of its components then something that takes out or refines any compounds with oxygen in it would be needed equipment for a long trek. Even 20Km in very low or no atmosphere will take a good while with low tech equipment.

Also the very high law would, according to RAW, mean that guns and armor are heavily restricted. People without authorization would be severely punished for any possession of any weapon or armor. Morever the number of full time solders or police or militia, with only 150 in the clan, would have to be very small. Most likely 1-2% or maybe 3 people. There might be reason to allow more armed people but if too many it would imply a lower law level, if everyone is authorized it's had to see the law as that restrictive.

Can I ask where you got A425BCG-2 from
Monger Abebe? I think there may have been some miss communication
that may be a players states.

Its a Mars level, 1 :)

Exactly when you are expositioning on the System and on the world we are on is not clear to me in the above paragraphs, which is why I asked for the UWP specifically for the world as distinct from the system. It's relevant in terms of how difficult the trek would be with TL 6/7 tech. Thank you for the Mars equivalence, if the atmosphere is Mars-like then breaking out oxygen from CO2 would be possible with a bulky machine. At higher tech a compact co2 device with recyclers would be be more than enough but at low tech we could not walk with enough oxygen to make 20KM over rough terrain, it would be just too heavy to carry without transport as far as I can tell.

Doctor

I know my excitement is supposed to come from the Gameplay tab, but, the "above" is Traveller to me. I'm not even sure if I was a teenager when it was released, I will look, but I certainly had not covered vector physics or the math to understand vector-based space combat, but there it was. Hard science, a little pseudo-science, and very very little super-science. Made for some amazing games.

NOTE: I was probably 11 or 12 when my brother and I purchased the sacred BOOK 1

Male Human AACBC6

I am wondering if I made an error in my skill choices. Being a miner Boom should know how to build a shaft/tunnel or clear a collapse. What skill would that be? I would like to drop art to add that, whatever that is, if possible.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Arr now I seem what I did, My bad that should have been a 1 not a two.
there is no active life on the surface so Ox is very low, like very low. CO2 loads of it and you have sunlight, and there is a lot of H2O under the surface, and ice in shaded and sun blocked areas. This is a risky trip and there is no real way to get the ATV down and up that gully. Your going to have to go down, cross and then up again, then hike the 2k to the site, carrying all you need with you. And when you get there it would have already been salvaged, so all the way back empty handed, On a airless rock of DEATH!!

But remember your like the Freman, this is home, you know the danger, and risk.

Like the old man said, ya got to get it out your system.

hmmm like the fremen?

General questions :)

Any chance our suits or 'scrubbers' on the vehicle can slowly pull oxygen from the atmosphere, or the ice on the surface and water under the surface?

What supplies or abilities does our vehicle have, so we can prepare to travel and survive?

How readily available are extra tanks of oxygen for our vacc suit?

The only super tech you have is portable fusion, The ATV will have an H2O 2x cracker system hoppers on it, to replenish your air.

GM_Panic wrote:

Come on, the Freman had it easy, breathable atmosphere, and the high tech stillsuit. I will claim that the stillsuit as described in the Dune books is at least TL 10 in Traveller terms. Full suit water recycling, air filter, lightweight, and all powered by the wearers' own body movement yeah TL 10 minimum.

Getting back to our situation, at TL 5/6 oxygen tanks weigh a ton. The rules set of both T1 and Mg1 don't even have rules for a TL 6 spacesuit, it starts at TL 8. So how much does our vacc suits weigh, how much does the PLSS weigh, how much does any extra tanks weigh? Oh on T1 5kg per 6 hours of air, that is a lot. How easy is it to climb the ridge, (we would need to know that perfectly before setting out)? How long, I bet it would be longer than our oxygen would hold out.

Look I am not trying to be difficult here but based on the tech you say we have without extensive, heavy mechanical support the trip does not seem physically possible in a real world way. I'm not even taking into account that we are not that good at climbing either climbing is in Mg1 Athletics(Co-Ordination), Abebe is 0 and Navarre is +1 Athletics: Co-ordination, everyone else is -3, in T1 it doesn't exist except as GM fiat. That isn't risky that's suicide, Freman survive, like all extreme environment peoples, by not taking needless risks. It's wealthy, comfortable, and bored people that take dumb risks and die a lot.

I am a little confused here. The pictures you showed of the ATV had plenty of room and was contained. Is it sealed? Does it make it's own air and can it refill a tank? How long does a tank in a vacc suit last? I think we are getting a little too into the minutia for this. I think we get enough air for the walk from the ATV to the site and the tools needed for a dig including some explosives if possible and leave it at that. The GM can tell us how long we have air for in our suits and we have to try to stick to it. We are a lower tech world in a high tech universe some things are going to work better then our tech level we just aren't going to know what but our characters would know what needs done and what we need. Maybe some skill rolls to make sure we have the right stuff and then we can go.

I have added the ATV spek to the map doc.

My long gameplay post can of course be modified as others want to add or change anything I said or implied. Lots of detail as usual but I'll try to keep the rest for this chapter of our lives, less verbose.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The post length isn't an issue, but if I were to make a request it would be to take advantage of the OOC brackets for things that you as a player want to communicate to us as players, and use "bold" for Abebe to actually speak to the other characters. If you want us to know what he's thinking or planning use the Italics.

Also, I'd prefer you ask the other characters to sign the sheet or to doe the inventory check instead of narrate that they do. I get it if the GM is doing narration like that to move the game along, but I'd rather players never assume my characters actions. I know it feels like a small thing but I post too much and too often, and the conversation helps keep people involved in the game.

edit: The lists, if that's something you wanted the characters to be aware of, and didn't want to 'say it' he could have said he'd written a list and offered it to whoever wanted to read it, then put the lists under a spoiler.
