Wakandah moves toward the entrance, using the wall corner for cover and fires her crossbow at the naga, taking care not to strike Joryn, which proves her undoing as the bolt sails high. Joryn calls out and strikes at the naga, finding that though she is indeed evil, the unnatural creature is also protected by a spell that makes it difficult to get a proper bead on her. But his blade strikes true, slicing through her defenses with the holy power of Celestian with the first stroke (17 damage), though his second blow is thwarted by the mystical protective spell. Morrow evades the worst of the lightning bolt and strikes true with his own blade, though he finds that her scales are nearly as unyielding as granite stone – but the flames that wreathe his sword do seem to burn her a bit (2 damage ‘fire’, 0 damage slashing). Glorb ends his song and exhorts his boar to attack, but the animal is unable to get past the line formed by Morrow and Joryn – still, the gnome’s well-aimed acid spell scores a solid hit! (7 damage). Reonnyn too is able to avoid being outright killed by the powerful electrical strike, but still the halfling is wounded by the blast as he sends an eldritch bolt of his own at the creature (9 damage), which seems to get past its formidable defenses. Verdan is also able to partially avoid the lightning bolt, and the cleric casts a spell that brings a glowing heavy mace that attacks with the might of Pelor, though it fails to strike with accuracy as her shimmering form confounds the spiritual weapon.
The naga hisses in anger and edges away from the adventurers, again incanting a spell that sends another lightning bolt into Morrow and Verdan!

Party is up! Whew, you guys lucked out BIG time on that damage roll! Average damage could have been very bad news for the badly wounded Verdan especially, though bad enough if he misses his save and goes down… Also, don’t forget those bard bonuses to your attack/damage rolls, folks! If I noticed you shortchanged yourself, I added them in myself – but I can’t guarantee I’ll always notice. You may also roll your own miss chances if you want, with 1-50 always missing, and 51-00 confirming the attack roll if it was a successful hit. Wakandah, that Flaming Sphere has vanished, as you cast it in Round 2 and it now Round 10, so eight full rounds have passed and the spell is now expired (as of the end of Round 9). Please remember that I do like for my players to roll their own attacks – it’s just one less thing for me to have to do. Thanks!
Glorb - 41/41 *+1 to attack/damage rolls and saves vs fear/charm from Inspire Courage bard song for 4 rounds; Acid Arrow spell will do additional 2d4 damage next round*
Boar - Unwounded
Reonnyn - 28/54 * +1 to attack/damage rolls and saves vs fear/charm from Inspire Courage bard song for 4 rounds*
Verdan - 16/50 (-18 or -9 HP, depending on Reflex Save) * +1 to attack/damage rolls and saves vs fear/charm from Inspire Courage bard song for 4 rounds*
Naga – Wounded (-35 HP)
Wakandah - 32/32 *+1 to attack/damage rolls and saves vs fear/charm from Inspire Courage bard song for 5 rounds*
Joryn - 60/69 *+1 to attack/damage rolls and saves vs fear/charm from Inspire Courage bard song for 5 rounds*

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Reflex save vs. Lightning Bolt: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Verdan crumbs to the floor unable to dodge out of the way of the lighting this time.
Winking out the spiritual weapon as the darkness takes him.

Morrow, Tue |

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Ouch!
Suprised when his sword doesn't seem to penetrate the hard scales of the beast, and seeing that it is using magical attacks anyway, Morrow drops his shield to use both hands on his sword and stays with the naga to attack. He also focuses more on strength than skill, chopping hard to hurt the beast!
Since the sword did no damage I assume the Touch of Idiocy was not delivered. ?? Would I have been able to hold it for this round?
2-handed Power Attack-3: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Miss Chance: 1d100 ⇒ 58

Wakandah senses the dire straits in which the party is in, and casts a potent spell, tapping into whatever fears such a hideous creature might have, hoping her magic is enough to kill it outright – but alas, the naga only grins at the sorceress malevolently. Joryn continues to attack, but he is unable to connect with either strike as the serpent creature is not where he expects her to be. Morrow slashes at the naga with fearsome strength, and this time his blade penetrates the magical defenses of the creature, though still some of the blow is turned aside (12 damage). Glorb takes a healing potion from his belt pouch and moves to assist the fallen cleric even as the acid from his previous spellcasting continues to burn into the naga’s scaled flesh (6 acid damage) and Reonnyn’s eldritch bolt fails to connect and Verdan continues to bleed out.
The naga is badly wounded but fights on, this time angling her lightning bolt attack to strike Morrow, the boar and Wakandah!

Party is up! I need saves from Morrow and Wakandah as well as Glorb’s boar - Glorb, feel free to roll that one if you’d like, using the standard boar’s Reflex save modifier. I’ll be botting Joryn from now on, but he didn’t have a Smite Evil left to use, having used both of them already this day. Morrow, I actually forgot about the spell, so figure it went off fine (all you need to do is hit with the weapon – which you did, though it caused no damage) though nothing really changed last round. It will, however, have an effect on her spellcasting, including the DC for the Reflex save!

The naga’s lightning bolt smashes into Morrow, who nearly falls as darkness presses in on his vision and he struggles to remain on his feet. Wakandah fares better, though she too is wounded by the naga’s magic and she falls back on a more familiar spell, casting a ray of scorching fire to burn the naga – though she must be careful not to harm her companions. Unfortunately, her aim is thwarted by the magical defenses of the dangerous creature, and though it looked as though her two bolts were perfectly aimed, still they miss striking the naga. Joryn continues to attack the evil monster with his blade, and though his second attack strikes true, it doesn’t seem to penetrate the stone-like hide of the naga. Morrow activates the magic in his belt to heal some of his wounds, bringing himself back from the brink of death even as Glorb forces the fallen Verdan to drink the healing potion, the cleric coughing and sputtering a bit as his eyes open (see OOC below, Verdan can take an action this round!) and the gnome is pleased to see that his boar is still somehow alive after the naga’s lightning bolt spell, though the animal is badly scorched. Reonnyn strikes with an eldritch bolt, and the halfling almost cries out in anguish as the perfectly-aimed bolt fails to find the target due to the naga’s defensive magic!
Again the naga mutters a deadly incantation and sends her lightning bolt to strike Morrow, the boar and Wakandah, having deemed that the duskblade and the sorceress pose the greatest threat!

Party is up! I need saves from Morrow and Wakandah as well as Glorb’s boar (Glorb, feel free to roll that one if you’d like, using the standard boar’s Reflex save modifier (+3). Glorb, my notes on your character sheet indicate you used that CMW potion, so I had you use your CLW potion instead – which at least brought him up to positive hit points. Therefore, Verdan may take an action prior to the Naga’s attack (last round) as well as one for the current round. Though if it’s anything other than a spell, he’d need to stand up most likely, as Verdan is currently prone without a weapon in hand. Also, I forgot to roll the naga’s Concentration check for casting defensively last round, so I did it retroactively (figuring if she failed one of the two checks, then I’d apply the success to last round and the failure to this round), but her modifier is pretty darn high so it didn’t really matter. Folks, these Reflex saves might mean the difference between life and death for yourselves and even the entire party!
Glorb - 41/41 *+1 to attack/damage rolls and saves vs fear/charm from Inspire Courage bard song for 2 rounds*
Boar – Wounded (-13 HP) (pending -28 or -14 HP, depending on Reflex Save)

Wakandah and Morrow are both dropped as the lightning bolt washes over them, though whether either yet lives is difficult to ascertain. Verdan heals himself and scrambles to his feet, snatching up his mace as Reonnyn uses his wand on the fallen sorceress first, breathing a sigh of relief as some color returns to her cheeks – though she remains unconscious for the moment. Joryn continues to fight the naga and gets in a solid blow as Glorb successfully invokes the wand (barely!) to send another acid bolt at the creature, the acid arrow splattering against its scales and sizzling into its flesh. And though badly scorched, the boar remains on its feet and also attacks the naga, though its tusks pierce only empty air. The naga, now badly wounded and hurting from the acid that burns into its flesh, shrieks in anger and defiance as it slithers a bit to one side and unleashes another devasting lightning bolt while easily avoiding Joryn’s blade. This time the bolt sizzles through the paladin and kills the boar before striking Glorb as well!

Joryn is badly struck by the bolt, but shrugs off the pain and continues to fight the deadly naga, but the flashes of light from the lightning flash that yet dance in front of his eyes make it impossible to land a blow. The nimble Glorb evades the naga’s spell entirely and sends another bolt of acid at the naga, once again scoring a solid hit with his wand even as Reonnyn’s bolt takes the creature square in its scaled face! Verdan moves swiftly to Morrow’s fallen body, restoring health to the fallen warrior even as the hideously wounded naga fixes the cleric with a savage glare and chants her magic once more, but this time the acid eating through her scales is too much agony for the naga to bear and she shrieks in anger and fear as her spell fizzles!

Party is up!. I went ahead and rolled the acid damage from Glorb's latest strike, as it had the potential to cause the naga to lose focus on the spell despite her ridiculous Concentration modifier and sure enough, without the +4 for casting defensively and the acid damage plus the spell level her roll of ‘1’ on the d20 resulted in a total 17 vs a DC of 20 – which was a failure!

Morrow, Tue |

Feeling the wonderful flow of positive energy healing his wounds Morrow initially thinks that he may have died and is in the afterlife. However, that instant is shattered with the continued sounds of battle and he knows that the enemy is still breathing. Rolling to his feet he chooses to leave his sword where it lays. He may not be a wizard, but he doesn't always need to channel his magic through a weapon. He stands tall and loudly intones the words to a powerful fire spell....

Godsday (Vernal Equinox), 4th day of Growfest, 594 C.Y.
About an hour spent underground.
Current time is about two hours after midday.
-------------------------------------------------
Joryn swings his heavy blade once again, and this time he is able to accurately pinpoint the naga’s position, the sword biting into her scales – though her magical protection absorbs the blow fully! Rolling to his feet Morow chooses to leave his sword where it lays even as the naga makes the duskblade pay for his maneuver by striking at him with her stinger-tipped tail. But Morrow easily evades the attack as he stands tall and loudly intones the words to a powerful fire spell, channeling a stream of fire into the deadly naga’s face! The naga ducks under the first bolt, and though the second blast seems to catch her full on, the duskblade curses as the naga’s magical defenses confound his senses and the fiery ray finds only her illusory form as the creature chuckles evilly.
Glorb lets fly another acid bolt, but he too is fooled by the blurred form of the naga and the glob of acid strikes the stone wall behind her. Desperately, Reonnyn sends another eldritch bolt at the creature, and his ray of negative energy strikes the naga with deadly accuracy as Verdan heals Wakandah, bringing her back to consciousness as she gazes around dazedly. The naga is struck full on by the halfling’s warlock magic, and her scales begin to blacken as she thrashes wildly, her entire upper body consumed by the negative energy of Reonnyn’s eldritch blast. Moments later, the naga’s serpentine form drops to the floor, unmoving. The creature’s face is hideously drained of life by the dark energy wielded by the warlock halfling.
With the entire party again on their feet, Wakandah announces that she has faced death too many times to continue on and informs the others that she will be leaving and return to Greyhawk. Joryn, who seems smitten by the dusky Olmani, pledges that he will be her protector from this day forward and joins her as they withdraw from the ruins, the paladin bidding the remaining party members farewell and bestowing the blessings of Celestian upon them.
The four remaining heroes take stock of their situation, finding a chest behind the dais that is unlocked and untrapped. Within are a good number of loose coins, as well as four pouches filled with diamond dust as well as two matching ruby rings, a clear gem the size of a child’s fist, and a small figurine depicting a raven, which appears to be crafted of silver – the latter two items glowing with an aura of magic according to the warlock halfling. Glorb finds that there is an iron key affixed to the naga’s tail with a small chain, though the chest has no lock and the key seems to be sized to fit a door-sized lock in any case. There’s nothing else in the room, save for the naga’s bedding and a bit of shed skin here and there.
Joryn’s 1st Attack Roll: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29 = Possible Hit!
Joryn’s Miss Chance (01-50): 1d100 ⇒ 98 = Confirmed Hit!
Longsword Damage: 1d8 + 3 - 10 ⇒ (2) + 3 - 10 = -5
Joryn’s 2nd Attack Roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 = Miss!
Naga’s AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10 vs Morrow’s AC = Miss!
Morrow’s Miss Chance (01-50): 1d100 ⇒ 9 = Miss!
Glorb’s Miss Chance (01-50): 1d100 ⇒ 42 = Miss!

Combat Map - Slide #2
Combat is done, well fought! I was getting worried for some of you in that battle... I’ve written out Wakandah and Joryn and sort of hurried through the room without asking for checks involving the chest (since it was unlocked and untrapped anyway) and Reonnyn detects magic at will so I gave you that information as well – or at least as much as he could surmise without having Spellcraft as a skill. I might see about recruiting another player or two, but I think the four of you will be OK regardless. Though a strong front line fighter would probably be helpful to back up Morrow. And maybe a mage of some kind.

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn watches the two fellow adventurers walk away with a ping of regret. The wizardess was indeed easy on the eyes yet it seemed another has claimed her...
Reonnyn glances about the foul smelling room with a look of relief on his face, "While I cannot say this is a fine establishment as one would find in Greyhawk, at least it can be secured. We should rest here before pressing onward." He picks up the iron key and twirls it around his finger, "Bet this key leads to where we need to go."
Reonnyn is waiting for Verdan to heal the party before using the healing wands here. Also I don't know how spent the other casters are here. If you think we can press onwards then yes Reonnyn would also agree to that course of action.

Morrow, Tue |

Don't suppose Wakanda could try to identify the magic items before leaving? I don't have the spells to do it. +17 Spellcraft and I can't cast Detect Magic or Identify!?!
"If we need to rest I'm fine, but I still have much of my magical power available. I'm just hurt pretty bad and used all of the healing that my belt can do."

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Verdan holding his Holy Symbol aloft as a wave of positive energy flows from Verdan. Verdan then speaks a prayer. "Pelor hear this humble servants request, please heal these souls of their wounds."
As a swift action he Channels energy to gain the Sacred Boost -cure spells are maximized for 1 round. Then he casts cure wounds on the person.
Morrow is cured 42 hit points -Converted: Shield Other + channel
Reonnyn is cured 27 Hit points - Converted: Bless + channel
Verdan is cured 27 Hit points - Converted: Protection from Chaos/Evil/Good/Law + channel
So 3 spell converted and 3 channels used
For I.D. the Items, I can cast Detect magic only, and I only have a +6 to the spell craft roll.
After the casting, Verdan has a seat on the dead naga.
"I am not sure how much more of my spells I have left. I have only a small handful left. But I do have a couple of potions and a pair of fully charged cure light wound wands I can use."
Giving it some thought he answers up "I have three third level of power spells that I can convert for big healing quick, but after that I am basically down to using the wands. I think we can make one more push if you want, I know I want to at least try for Altamaic. But I don't want to risk your lives if you have any reservations." As he looks at each of the remaining party members.

Glorb Goldendew |

Glorb is thrilled by all forms of Magic, and studies the two items carefully even though he has very little knowledge about such stuff.
He has full health and lots of tricks left, but he'll let the others decide if the party should rest or not.

GM West |

While Verdan sits upon the corpse of the naga and heals the wounded of all their injuries using his divine magic, Morrow uses his innate ability to detect magical auras to learn something about the items they found...
Morrow's Spellcraft Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21 to identify silver figurine
Morrow's Spellcraft Check: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 to identify gem
Though the gem seems vaguely familiar to the duskblade, he cannot discern its magical purpose. The silver raven, however, he determines is a magical item called a Figurine of Wondrous Power (Silver Raven) that can easily carry simple messages back and forth.
Reonnyn quickly confirms that the key will open the door to the north, which you all noticed the fleeing hobgoblin didn't open when he fled. Apparently he also required the key from the naga...
Morrow, duskblades actually do have the Arcane Attunement ability, which allows you to cast several spells (including Detect Magic) as a spell-like ability 3x/day (+INT modifier) - I presumed you used that power here. :) Also, I use Pathfinder rules to identify magical items, which means you can use Spellcraft checks (DC is 15 + Caster Level of item) - though I think your modifier is +13 and not +17? According to PF rules, you can make another attempt tomorrow, since retries are allowed for this action. You also know that the key will open the door to the north on the map. Let me know if you wish to rest here (or elsewhere) or continue on through the door you can know unlock.
PC Health:
Glorb - 41/41
Reonnyn - 54/54
Verdan - 50/50
Morrow – 61/61

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn frowns as he considers the dire situation the group is in now. "While I understand your desire to get Altamaic, yet we do not know what other guardians lurk between himself and us." He paces the small room slowly trying to figure out the next words carefully. "While this area may look safe now, we have no way of knowing how much the naga communicated with Altamaic, if at all. Should he send a messenger to inquire of her..." he leaves the thought unspoken.
Reonnyn is good to press on, should the others want to. To be honest I feel as if we could use some extra firepower though.

Morrow, Tue |

I forgot about Arcane Attunement. Only glanced at his spell list. And I have no idea where I got 17 from.... The CS clearly says 13. Thanks!
I say we check out one more room, then maybe rest. And remember Verdan, you don't have to be the fastest when it is time to run.... Just faster than the slowest! :)

Godsday (Vernal Equinox), 4th day of Growfest, 594 C.Y.
About an hour spent underground.
Current time is about two hours after midday.
-------------------------------------------------
The party decides to forge onward after collecting the ill-gotten loot of the deadly naga guardian. Using the key on the door to the north, they find that true to Reonnyn’s estimate, the heavy door opens as the locking mechanism slides back into the wall when the key is turned.
The chamber that lies before the adventurers is broken and ruined, with the far side ending in a great chasm, from which can be heard the sounds of rushing water from somewhere far down below. A narrow wooden bridge with chain handrails crosses the gap, leading toward another chamber off to the west. Cautiously approaching the chasm where the bridge is set into the stone on the near side, they can see a long hall with a floor partially covered by faded red carpet stretching away to the west, its far end illuminated by torches where a rather large rust-red skeletal statue lies in ruins upon a dais. The chasm itself is about fifty feet deep, where a river of rushing water churns through the subterranean darkness.
Even as their eyes take in the scene, there is a heavy ringing that shatters the stillness, as though a large bell is tolling somewhere above them and ahead. Two winged statues lurch forth from a crevasse that breaches the wall about forty feet up to the north, one of them wearing an iron bell around its neck, still ringing sharply and loudly. The gargoyles launch themselves toward the party, sailing somewhat awkwardly across the rift and their stone flesh appears to be rotted as they loom closer, mouths agape in silent cries and their eyes bright with an unspeakable hunger…
Gargoyle Zombies Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Verdan’s Initiative: 1d20 ⇒ 17
Morrow’s Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
Glorb’s Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Reonnyn’s Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
----------------------------------------------
Combat Map - Slide #2
Wow, the entire party gets to act first! Though I guess that’s par for the course when you’re fighting zombies… The undead gargoyles are approximately 20’ higher than your own positions as they descend from the crevasse on the opposite side of the crevasse to the north, which is about 40’ above you.

Morrow, Tue |

Morrow mutters the words to a spell, making him a little big bigger, stronger and faster, then readies his sword and shield.
Casting Animalistic Power then getting ready for the melee.

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn grumbles sarcastically, "Nice to see they want to provide us an escort!" even as he waves his blade upwards sending another eldritch bolt at the closer of the gargoyles...
Eldritch Bolt, Ranged Touch vs Red Gargoyle Zombie: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (5) + 12 = 17
Magical damage: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6, subject to SR.

Verdan priest of Pelor |

"Fowl creatures, return to the abyss."
Holding his holy symbol aloft Verdan channels holy energy at the undead Gargoyle
Greater Turning: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Up to 9 HD Creatures
Turning Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 3) + 9 = 13

Morrow casts a spell that surrounds his body with a sparkling nimbus of green light, giving the duskblade a feral appearance even as the magic increases his fighting prowess. Reonnyn’s eldritch bolt just barely catches one of the creatures a glancing blow across its outstretched arm and Verdan calls upon the blinding grace of Pelor to deal with the undead foe, reducing one to ashes even as the pair swoop down upon the party, the survivor fixing Verdan with its baleful gaze as it slams bodily (Damage = 6) into the cleric!
Gargoyle Slam Attack w/ Charge: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 vs Verdan’s AC = Hit!
Slam Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn sends another of his eldritch bolts into the zombie, even as he looks ahead for any further threats...
Eldritch Bolt, Ranged Touch vs Yellow Gargoyle Zombie: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21;
Magical damage: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6, subject to SR.

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Verdan smashes his mace on the head of the Gargoyle.
Attack +1 Holy Silver Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 2 + (3, 4) = 13 7 points is holy

Razel - Flame of St. Cuthbert |

Razel then reaches out to Kossel through his empathic link and asks the weasel to exit from his packs (assuming that have been brought into the room) once these creatures leave to chew through his bindings!

Morrow, Tue |

I assume the "C6" between me and the gargoyle is a stone column?
Seeing the ledge all too close Morrow activates his boots to give him a better 'grip' on the ground, then steps around the column to attack the beast.
Boots of Dragonstriding. 1/day gain a climb speed equal to land speed for 10 rounds. Prereq for construction says spider climb so.... At the least it should give me a better chance to catch if I fall! ?? The move draws an AoO, but if I get there I flank. ?? Attacking with greatsword. Using 5 points of BAB for Power Attack
Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
