Zeuxidamos |

Zeux knows immediately what the creature is and calls out to warn his comrades.
"Ware the demon..tis a Vrock. Beware its stunning screech, or the deadly cloud of pestilence it can fling from its filthy wings. Finally, it is capable of summoning others of its ilk to help it fight. We have to take it down quickly...it is immune to non-magical weapons and most elemental spells...luckily my spells are force-based!!

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn is glad he is as far away from the vrock as he is now. Waving his blade at the demon he sends another eldritch bolt at the vrock!

Cona Hamath |

Quick as anything, the scout then grabbed for his ring and put it on, annoyed that he was already in close combat.
OOC: Yuck. Given I'm already in combat, skirmish isn't really going to work, especially here. So I'll take advantage of the fact that I act before everyone and hope it's still flat-footed, put on my ring of protection which boosts my current AC to 21.

GM West |

OOC: Zeux, was that your maximized MM spell? I'm thinking you cast those already? Here is the list I've got of the spells you've already cast today - but let me know if I'm wrong. It's in the Campaign Info tab.
Zeux has cast Detect Magic, Maximized Magic Missile (2x), Magic Missile and Blast of Force (3x).

Morgrym Black |

Morgrym rages again his eyes lighting up as the enemy arrives from nothing and his hands grip his spiked chain and he leaps jump: 1d20 + 26 ⇒ (13) + 26 = 39 coming into the air ten feet away from the demon the chain twisting out like a snake and striking at the creature

Morrow, Tue |

Hearing the word 'demon' is all Morrow needs. Figuring that the flames from his sword would have little to no effect he drops the blade and draws the new sword and attacks.
Only know that it is +2, so.... Can I do full attack?

Cona sees that combat is breaking out and slips a ring on his finger, giving himself added protection for the deadly melee. Reonnyn sends an eldritch bolt at the demon, which explodes in its chest with good force! Zeux follows up with a flurry of arcane missiles, which slam into its body with even more force than the halfling’s dark magic bolt! Morgrym slashes at the demon with his spiked chain, and though the weapon causes quite a bit of damage with the powerful blow, the warrior knows that the creature should have been hurt a bit worse than it was.
The demon suddenly releases a cloud of sickly green spores from its body and screeches a horrifying battle cry that nearly drives the adventurers to their knees!

OOC: Everyone everyone except for Reonnyn please make a Fort Save! Depending on whether Morrow and Verdan make their saves will influence whether their actions go off as they intended. Verdan, you’ll need to make a Concentration check to cast defensively though, as the demon took a 5’ step to get as many of you as possible in range of its spores. As Reonnyn has surmised, you’ll need to roll a caster check to get past the demon’s SR! If you don’t, I can do it for you with my post (as I did for Zeux), but I prefer the player roll the dice themselves. Morgrym, I believe the Leap Attack is an option only when you can charge your foe. That seems to be the intent of the feat, so remember you’ll need to have a clear charge lane and at least 10’ of distance between yourself and your target (and that’d be a standing jump, you’d need more distance to getting a jump with a running start!) I doesn’t look like you had those conditions here, but you still hit with the attack, and I went ahead and rolled the damage myself since I didn’t see your roll there, but let me know if I missed any modifiers (I think it’s 4d4 for the Valorous weapon, + 2 for the weapon enhancement, +9 STR and +14 PA for a total of 4d4+25?). I’ll take Glorb out of the fight and just have him keep the bardsong going as a standard action each round, with the intention of writing the player out of the game in the near future.

"Did you find anything useful or magical? How about the goblin and information out if him?"

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn's voice echoes from where he has been watching the rooms that lead back to the Arena, "We had best not tarry too longer. That wizard is sure to send more of his lackeys to finish us off! We have what we came for, let's return to Greyhawk. I am hungry for some fresh cooked food!"

Morrow, Tue |

Morrow waits quietly until his wounds are healed. He smiles as the pain is eased by the magic. Glancing over to the wall where the skull shattered he nods. "That thing mentioned Iuz and the Tower of Magic. Sounds like we've got a long and dangerous road to follow yet"
He looks at the key that they'd found. "Any see a lock to match this? Maybe the General still has some treasures hidden? Might be worth a little time yet before we head back to town with Richard's sword."
Looks like there's still a couple of doors that we haven't checked/opened. ??

Verdan uses the holy water on himself to stop the growth of the spores, and then utilizes the healing wand to not only undo the damage done by the painful vine-like growths that continue to grow and writhe beneath the skin of Cona and Morrow, but also to heal their wounds as well as those suffered by Morgrym and finally himself. After a full minute or so, the pain inflicted by the viney growths is ended, but still they can be felt under the skin, a most unpleasant sensation and rather unsettling to behold.
Spore Damage: 7d4 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 2, 3, 4, 3) = 21 vs Cona
Spore Damage: 7d4 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 4, 2, 1, 3) = 18 vs Morrow
After ascertaining that the cringing goblin has died due to the spores (the creature is rigidly locked in the fetal position, the vines that grew beneath its skin apparently trapping him in that pose), the party finds that the doors open into four other small rooms. Two of them are supply closets containing two casks of good wine and a crate of dried foodstuffs from the Shield Lands as well as boxes of military uniforms and other personal effects apparently set into storage. The third room likely belonged to the goblin, a mess of dirty clothes strewn about haphazardly on the floor, a single chair and a filthy bed, as well as the rancid remains of half-eaten food scattered upon a small wooden table. The last room is obviously that of the General, with a comfortable bed and a locked chest. Morrow finds that the key fits into the lock on the chest, which contains some personal items as well as a very large stack of papers. A quick perusal indicates that these are instructions on how to carry out the recent raids on the local caravans with their schedules gleaned from reconnaissance missions (and perhaps some inside information?) Morrow also takes note of a mention of the Tower of Magic – which is apparently one of the three towers that make up the Ruins of Greyhawk. Several notations are made about supplies being taken to the Tower of Magic for use there. No mention is made of the third tower, which Glorb recalls is named The Tower of Zagig. Besides the papers and personal items is a pouch containing 45 platinum coins and two finely-cut rubies, each of which the gnome figures is worth 300gp or thereabouts.
Backtracking to the dragon’s filthy lair, Verdan relies on his immunity to disease to carry out a search of the detritus, finding a good number of coins, as well as a well-preserved shortbow made of bone and a pearl – both of which radiate magic after a spell is cast to ascertain this happy fact. In fact, the bow is enhanced to fire arrows over vast distances – far beyond that of a standard shortbow – and the gem is able to effectively grant a spellcaster the ability to recast a spell gone from his or her memory.
The adventurers figure they’ve thoroughly explored this area, though they could head back out to the main stairwell that winds bneath the Tower of War and continue downward if they so choose, or explore the Tower of Magic or The Tower of Zagig for that matter. There is also the comforting idea of returning to Greyhawk itself to relax for a bit and return the Chaos Blade to Ricard Damaris, if they are so inclined.

OOC: I’m imagining these vine-like growths beneath your skin look something along the lines of large worms burrowing under the flesh, which quite frankly gives me the willies! Zeux knows they will eventually wither away harmlessly after a period of a couple days (give or take), but yeah it’s kinda disgusting… Cona and Morrow are no longer taking damage, but the spore growth continued to sap their health even while they were being healed with the wand, so both of them are still a bit worse for wear after all those charges were used. Let me know your plans. Sounds like making your way back out of this tower and back to Greyhawk? Any more healing before you set out? What are your plans once you get back to town?

Morrow, Tue |

I thought Verdan's Bless stopped the growth? Doesn't matter though if we're just heading back to the city.
Once the vines stop growing and the healing is done Morrow works with the others to finish exploring the final rooms. The paperwork is gathered and carefully packed. The government will want to peruse the details, and it gives the team the direction they need to go.
"I think we need to return to the city. Much as I like Richard's sword, it is his and should be returned. We've used plenty of charges from the healing wands and should purchase another one or two.... Let's gather the spoils and head back."

GM West |

Ack! I didn't see the Bless spell being cast! Totally my fault in not seeing that. Don't spend anymore resources, consider everyone is either at full or pretty close. I'll tally up the results with my next post and confirm. Probably won't matter if you're headed back to town, unless you have an encounter on the way back of course...

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn glances uneasily about him almost as if expecting the shadows to jump out at him. "Yes returning to Greyhawk is the best thing to do now. We did accomplish what we set out to do. That mage is still out there and no doubt will send more of his forces after us. Hopefully we will have the advantage as we will be on friendly territory." Glancing over the loot he waves off the spell-caster, "I have no need of that pearl Zeux, take it. If we are going to return then the coin should be used to purchase healing supplies."

Waterday, 5th day of Growfest, 594 C.Y.
Cool and breezy with clear skies.
Current time is around 6 p.m.
-------------------------------------------------
The adventurers make their way out of the lower levels of the War Tower, finally standing in the sunlight again some two hours later. The day is cool and windy, the sky mostly clear save for a few clouds that drift across the azure sky lazily in the early afternoon. Making their way back to the City of Greyhawk takes the remainder of the day, and the party arrives at the docks and thence to the gate that leads into the River Quarter about an hour before the sun sets. From there it is a short walk along Cargo Street to reach the Green Dragon Inn, where Ricard greets them enthusiastically, taking time away from his customers to get them a good table (kicking a few patrons out of their seats to find new spots elsewhere in the busy tavern) and calls out for Evessa to bring a round of ales for everyone.
The place is abuzz with the news that the body of Riggby is expected to arrive the next day, probably sometime around midday, and Glorb is beside himself that he very nearly missed seeing the procession that will carry the fallen cleric of Boccob to his patron’s temple. They quickly learn that Riggby’s corpse will be brought through the Marsh Gate, and then through the Foreign Quarter, up the Processional and finally into Clerksburg, where he will finally lie in state with the Temple of Boccob for a span of a few days while the townsfolk and the cleric’s friends and family will be able to pay their respects. Speculation is rampant as to who will put in an appearance during that time – perhaps even the surviving wizards of the original Circle of Eight! Sightings of Leomund, Nystul, Otto, Bigby and even the great Mordenkainen are spoken in both hushed tones of reverence and boisterous claims along with whispered conjecture that perhaps the traitor Rary might find this a convenient time to finish what he’d started at the end of the infamous Greyhawk Wars ten years earlier by betraying his fellow wizards – though this time he might find a way to kill them all permanently! In fact, wasn’t Lord Robilar, Rary’s ally in that ill-fated betrayal, the owner of this very inn those rumors insist conspiratorially?
As Glorb gathers the information about Riggby and all the stories that surround his impending arrival, Ricard has food and more ale brought to the table and then gets to business, his eyes alight with hope and anticipation. “So? Did you find it? My blade? Tell me you did!” A handful of carousing adventurer-types turn to regard the heroes as well, for Ricard has spoken often and openly of his favorite sword being taken by the orcs that attacked the caravan he’d been with several days ago.

OOC: So Zeux will take the pearl. Any other claims? You can find the full list in the Campaign tab. Verdan, I think I've been taking charges off the CLW wand in the 'party treasure' list, so consider the wands on your character sheet to both be fully charged. Would be helpful to know what you plan to sell while in Greyhawk, what you want to purchase, etc. We can take care of those details as the adventure continues to unfold here in the city.

Morrow takes the scabbarded blade from his pack and approaches Ricard. "I believe we did. This blade appears to match the description and it holds powerful magic. Please verify that it is your stolen weapon?"
Holding the blade out to Ricard.

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn barely pays any attention to the rumors spiraling around the funeral of Riggby. Indeed he barely pays any attention to his surroundings, ever since the party returned from the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk. The only words spoken by him are "Just give the sword to the man already so we can get our reward!" Other than that he stays in a sullen silence, only his eyes constantly rove over the other patrons with a mix of paranoia and jealousy.
Reonnyn has no claims to make. As for the Bow I think Cona is a perfect fit to use it.

Morgrym enjoys his newfound freedom by drinking and carousing at the Green Dragon Inn, listening to stories and sharing his own while toasting companions old and new – especially Red, who sacrificed his life to see The General slain alongside his terrible dragon ‘pet’. The story of the arena brings both cheers and a few tears at the selfless final act of the red-haired champion when Morgrym tells it, and the sturdy fighter partakes of a round that is bought by another grizzled warrior that is particularly touched by the tale. He also catches the eye of Lindara, one of the beautiful barmaids employed by Ricard.
Reonnyn sits in bitter silence, his dark eyes taking in the merriment, though none of it seems to reach his own face. When he calls out to Morrow as Ricard finally asks about the sword, the duskblade presents the weapon from within his magical pack and presents it to the innkeeper, whose eyes light up as he takes the scabbard reverently and draws the blade held within. Streaks of green werelight race along the length of the ebon sword and Ricard cries out heartily as he raises the blade over his head, and applause and cheers thunder throughout the tavern. The Chaos Blade has been returned to its rightful owner! Ricard sheathes the weapon and shakes his head in wonder, then claps Morrow and Morgrym on the back, for those two are nearest him. “My friends, as I promised, you drink for free at the Green Dragon so long as I draw breath! In addition, for the next month I ask that you eat, drink, be merry and sleep in my best rooms! I insist upon it! And a round… no! TWO rounds on the house for all that are present for this happy night at the Green Dragon!” The hearty cheers increase tenfold at this pronouncement, as Ricard makes his way back to the bar to secure his beloved sword.
Drinks are poured and food produced for consumption until Ricard appears some few minutes later, a leather bag clenched in his hand as he sits beside the two men. He drops the bag upon the table, allowing a goodly number of platinum plates and an even greater number of gold orbs to spill out along with a fabulously carved stone of reddish hue. “You have done me a great service my friends, and it shall not be forgotten. Now take this night to celebrate and know that I will do the same, thanks to your great efforts!” The innkeeper slaps each of the heroes upon the back, thanking each of them personally for what they have done, until he reaches Reonnyn. He glances down at the Halfling, then takes a seat beside him. “My friend, you and your companions have done me a great service. It would be churlish of me not to do the same, if it is within my power. What troubles you? If there is anything I can do, then name it and consider it done.” He says earnestly.

You've also got a month's stay here, with your food and drink taken care of by the management. Feel free to RP as much as you’d like with each other, with Ricard or anyone else in the tavern! I’d also like some idea of what you’re intending to do now. You have a few options based on my last few posts that describe what you found in the General’s quarters, but feel free to ask questions or get clarification if you need it.

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Enjoying a much needed drink.
"What have heard of the route Riggby procession is suppose to take?"
After sometime Verdan excuses himself and heads to the temples to see his old friend Altamaic to check on how he is. Then he will be off to the markets to sell his old armor.

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn glances up at the owner of the Inn, a look of surprise on his face. Fro a brief moment Ricard sees the halfling's eyes glow an eerie shade of crimson before they return to their customary brown color.
"Ahhh...forgive me Ricard. I do not mean to cast such a dark cloud upon our successes, but the battle was a difficult one..." He lapses into silence for a few seconds before continuing in a subdued tone a haunted look upon his face. "I fear we have drawn the attention of dark forces. The General was but a lackey, I believe." He takes a long drink of the reddish dark ale, seemingly determined to drink his worries away...at least for this evening.
Reonnyn would LOVE the Stone of Good Luck but he is not claiming it...at least for now, he he.

Zeuxidamos |

Zeuxidamos enjoys a fine meal and a delicious selection of ales and wine. He finally seems to relax...until Reonnyn reminds him that the General was simply a lackey and the mastermind is still loose.
"It is unfortunate that we have struck such a mighty blow against evil, but this is not the end of the war, but simply a battle."
As far as I am concerned, one of the original players should get it if they want...I joined on later so will pass the ownership of the Luck Stone.

Morrow, Tue |

Once the reward is stated and given, Morrow orders a large steak and a mug of ale. He listens as the others state their concerns, "Tis true. The general was but a lackey, reporting magically to someone supposedly in the other tower. The Tower of Magic I think? And he mentioned the power of Iuz as he summoned a demon to attack us. I can't imagine that The Old One would actually be in the tower, but someone with enough magical might to remotely summon a true demon would be someone that needs to be handled, with extreme prejudice!"
"But first, some good food and drink, and friends, for tomorrow we may all die!" Stated with a grin and a raised mug as an obvious toast!
