If my attack drops the Worg, Joryn will do the following:

Joryn moves into the spot of the creature he just downed, then quickly heals Verdan.

If that doesn't drop the Red Worg, then Joryn will make a follow-up attack.

Verdan slams his mace at the nearest worg, but he misses badly. Joryn has better luck when he swings his own blade at the other wolf devil, slicing a deep wound into its chest with two quick strokes, but it doesn’t fall. Morrow’s attack kills the last hobgoblin on the balcony and Glorb lets off on his song and uses his wand of acid bolts against the nearest archer, the magical arrows smacking solidly into its leg which begins to burn painfully. The gnome’s summoned boar in the meantime attacks the gravely wounded worg but fails to connect, but the distraction provides Reonnyn the perfect opening and he drops the creature, then sticks the other one for good measure – though the second worg is only slightly injured. Wakandah continues to huddle behind the crate as she sends the fiery orb bounding over the railing at the wounded archer, burning him badly.

Combat Details:

Boar’s Gore Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 vs. Red Worg = Miss!

Flaming Sphere Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 1) = 7 fire vs. Orange Hobgoblin
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 vs DC 17 = Failure!

Though hard-pressed, the hobgoblins continue their attacks. Two of them focus on the exposed Morrow standing on the balcony while the worg and the ranger focus their attacks on Verdan. The duskblade is struck by one arrow hard (12 damage), the other thankfully clatters away after striking the railing that the dead archers had been using moments ago. The cleric fares less well as the worg bites him hard, knocking him to the floor and scratching his back with sharp claws (15 damage)! Of more concern is the hobgoblin ranger who grins fiercely as he sees his downed foe, then slashes at Verdan with several swift strikes from his blades (25 damage), nearly killing him, though the cleric clings to life by a thread.

Combat Map

Party is up! You can all post your actions for the end of Round 4 and beginning of Round 5! Bad guys had a bit more luck that round. Joryn, though you get two attacks due to your BAB you can’t take another standard action when you make an attack – unless I’m missing a special feature of your character. Glorb, don’t forget to roll another round’s worth of acid damage against the hobgoblin archer you tagged last round. Lastly, I’ve created a new map using slides, which means you can move your tokens around! Keep in mind the possibility of drawing AoOs and such, and you can’t move through crates. If need be, use arrows to show your route if there is any chance for confusion. Thanks, hope you like the new format!

Ah! I was just looking at the initiative order and seeing myself at the end. Didn't know we weren't at the top of the list....

Feeling the arrow bite deep, but also getting a glance at where everyone was, Morrow stays on the ledge for cover and drew on his inner arcane energy to send a small blast of fire at the enemy.

Verdan is down, and hearing the others intent to cover for him hesitates for a moment to give them that time. Joryn reaches out to heal the fallen cleric with his paladin ability and a swiftly cast spell (no AoO for either of these actions). Morrow sends a fiery burst that singes a few of the enemy down below, though the worg in particular seems unaffected by the flames. Glorb sends another acid arrow streaking toward the same hobgoblin archer that is still feeling the pain from the last one, wounding it further. The boar attacks the remaining worg, wounding the beast. Reonnyn slashes at the injured worg and wounds it further, then moves up to cover for Verdan. The cleric scrambles away, but pays for the effort as the hobgoblin ranger and the worg attack, the latter scoring a heavy blow (13 damage) him while Wakandah again directs the orb toward the badly injured archer, who is able to avoid the flaming sphere for the most part.

The hobgoblins and badly-wounded worg fight grimly, obviously willing to fight to the death. Morrow is targeted by both archers, and despite the sheltering wall, he is struck in the shoulder by one arrow (12 damage), the other shatters against the wall above his head. Reonnyn now finds himself in the frontline facing two foes in the dangerous ranger and the badly wounded worg! But the elusive halfling evades most of the blows, though he is struck by a claw (3 damage) and one of the ranger’s attacks. (4 damage)!

Joryn slashes his blade at the worg, finishing it with a single stroke (10 damage to worg). The paladin steps forward to engage the hobgoblin ranger, but the creature swiftly parries the paladin’s attack. Morrow’s twin rays of fire burn the hobgoblin archer terribly (29 fire damage to purple archer), and the creature howls in pain and anger, but it doesn’t fall! Glorb continues his assault against the wounded hobgoblin archer (6 + 5 damage to orange archer), and that one too looks terribly injured, but it stays on its feet. But the two archers quickly meet their deaths, one to the tusks of the summoned boar (7 damage to purple archer) and the other to Wakandah’s fiery sphere (5 damage to orange archer) as Reonnyn gets in a good hit on the ranger (6 damage to hobgoblin ranger) and Verdan moves up to heal the wounded Joryn. The Touv wizardess also sends a pair of fiery rays at the surviving hobgoblin (9 damage to hobgoblin ranger), but only one of them strikes true, as he is able to dodge away from the second at the last moment.

Apparently seeing that the inevitable shift of favor now swings toward the invaders, the hobgoblin ranger disengages from the battle, batting away Reonnyn’s blade with his own, although both Joryn and the boar are able to get in their blows as the enemy drops his defenses and growls something in his native tongue. Morrow gladly comes down to rejoin the party following after the last enemy. He thanks Verdan, then moves forward, sword and shield ready.

Not sure how far I can move with climbing down from the ledge. I'm a good climber but not just jumping. The effect of the Boots of Dragonstriding last for 10 rounds....

Joryn moves swiftly after the fleeing hobgoblin, but quickly realizes that he is leaving the light behind as Verdan waits for Morrow to climb down from the ledge, the duskblade dropping down onto a crate to get within the cleric’s reach so he can be healed.

Glorb and Reonnyn are eager to give chase as well, but only the halfling swashbuckler has the ability to see in complete darkness, and he doesn’t yet have line of sight to where their quarry disappeared.

Joryn can hear a door opening straight ahead of him, but that area of the room is cloaked in darkness, the paladin standing at the very limit of the illumination afforded by Verdan’s softly glowing shield…

----------------------------------------------

Combat Map - Slide #1

Party is up! Based on current positions, Joryn couldn’t see the hobgoblin, though he heard a door opening and a flurry of movement approximately 15’ or so directly south (down) on the map. Let me know if anyone else is going to provide light, or if Verdan is going to move up far enough to provide light so others can see enough to give chase.

-------------------------------------------------

The party pursues, and thanks to the light shed by Morrow’s flaming sword, Joryn is dimly able to see the room into which the hobgoblin fled, while Reonnyn is able to see nearly everything clearly thanks to his magical darkvision. The chamber is large, with double doors to either side, set into the north and south walls. In the center of the room stands a half-finished stone statue rising out of a shallow pool of water, depicting an armored man holding a sword aloft in one hand, a battleaxe at his side gripped in the other.

The hobgoblin is moving toward the southern doors and is just opening one of them up, and though Reonnyn’s darkvision doesn't extend quite that far, both he and Joryn can dimly make out the hobgoblin’s form and the paladin has a chance to act…

Combat Map - Slide #2

Party is up! Joryn, you can take a standard action immediately (in the round just ending) if you’d like, or take another 20’ move into the room if you’d rather do that (as you only used a single move of 20’ to reach your current position on the map.) Note that the hobgoblin ranger has concealment from you, in any case. Everyone else needed double moves to get to their current positions on the map. Joryn, if your standard action somehow takes it down or stops it's movement, it will be in the square 15' north of the door as this next round begins and the door itself will remain closed.

Joryn moves to the edge of the light and calls out for the barely-seen hobgoblin’s surrender, which the creature steadfastly refuses as it continues to flee and Reonnyn loses sight of it as well. Morrow pursues as well, closing in on the hobgoblin with his swift strides and his own light that emanates from the fire that wreathes his sword as the creature is forced to pause in order to open the heavy doors before it, and the duskblade raises his blade to strike – seeing nothing but an empty room beyond the open doors. Glorb lifts his voice in song, further inspiring his companions as Reonnyn moves into the room as well, now able to see the foe he flings an eldritch bolt at the hobgoblin, which slams into his back. Verdan moves in also, adding his own light that emanates from his shield, and the cleric heals some of the halfling’s injuries as Wakandah saunters lightly into the room after the others, seemingly more fascinated by the statue than by the fleeing hobgoblin, who is nearly done for.

The hobgoblin stares into the empty room and cries out. “Sassinal! The Master of Hounds commands that you aid the General’s servant!” Then her turns to face his foes in one last desperate attempt, slashing and stabbing at the duskblade with his blades and getting in one solid hit [26 HP damage] even as Joryn moves in...

Combat Map - Slide #2

Party is up! For no particular reason at all, we’ll stay in round-to-round format, starting with the top of Round 10 as indicated below. Morrow feels the blessed relief from the cleric and thanks him, then draws his own wand in his spare hand. He keeps his flaming sword in the body of the hobgoblin just in case the enemy's final words were for some kind of regeneration of healing. Badly burned bodies don't heal well.... "Does anyone recognize that name? Sassinal? He was commanding him so, ??"

Yep. I was down to 9/61 after the battle, healed for 35 then hurt again for 26. Confirmed crit with +8 to the damage really hurts! 18/61 + 47? Cool!

What is the star on the map? Or what looks like water behind it?

The chamber is large, with double doors to either side, set into the north and south walls. Verdan moves to heal the duskblade, his glowing hand bestowing a flood of positive energy into Morrow’s body, which does away with all of his injuries!

But at nearly the same moment, a sibilant voice in the small room ahead speaks magical words and even as a serpentine creature fades into sight, a crackling bolt of lightning streaks forward, smashing into the recently healed Morrow, as well as Verdan and even the distant Reonnyn is caught by the spell!
