If Ricard notices the halfling’s change of eye color he doesn’t comment, but instead smiles and claps Reonnyn on the shoulder as he hears Morrow’s glad shout in the background, giving the patrons of the Green Dragon yet another reason to sound out a rousing cheer. “Well my friend, if that is true it sounds as though you have stout comrades at your back. And as to difficult battles, be glad that you have prevailed and live to fight another day. To dwell on the alternative serves little purpose. But perhaps there is something more substantial that can be done to improve your mood.” He rises to his feet and calls out to a red-haired barmaid with elven features. “Evessa, bring my friend a glass of our best wine and a plate of whatever Tolenn has cooked up back there.” He gives the glum Reonnyn a parting smile and then moves away, speaking briefly to Morrow and the others before swiping up something from their table, returning to the halfling a few moments later as the half-elven barmaid sets a glass of sparkling wine in front of him. Ricard holds forth his hand, revealing a finely crafted stone of reddish hue – an agate or the like, perhaps. “Your companions agree that you should keep this. It is a Luck Stone. May it bring you good fortune against the allies of this General, should they seek to cause you harm. It served me well for many a year, and now it is time that it serve another.” With that, he heads back over to the table where Reonnyn’s companions sit, calling out for more food and drink.
Morrow and Morgrym both are eager to take the offered libations as the celebration continues on into the evening. Zeux hangs out with the two warriors as well, and as they regale those nearby with their tales, a tall, middle-aged man with bushy blond hair and bear wearing a dark red military coat enters the common room from the stairs that lead up to the private rooms, bellowing a greeting to Ricard as he pushes through the throng of drunken patrons to clasp hands with Ricard. The innkeeper returns the gesture with a bear hug, though the lean man can’t even touch the fingers of each hand around the impressively broad chest of the newcomer. Turning to the adventurers sitting at the table, he grins and gestures to the soldier. “My new friends, I would like you to meet an old friend of mine! Captain Gallancz, a fellow soldier I fought beside on the fields of Emridy Meadows. Though he went on to become a proper officer while I wound up overseeing an inn!” Gallancz nods at each of the heroes, an infectious grin on his face. “Proper, you say? Well, I know a slew of superior officers that would disagree with you my friend, and there are many times I have wished to switch places with you! But come, I see you have the Chaos Blade back! Are these the men you asked to retrieve that noble weapon back from the filthy paws of the thieving orcs that stole it? It seems as though I have arrived late to hear a stirring tale of valorous battle, am I right? Here, let me do what I can to have you repeat every word for my own selfish enjoyment by offering a round of drinks!”
Verdan leaves the inn early to check on his old friend Altamaic, who is happy to see the Pelorite. He is most anxious to hear of the cleric’s delve into the dungeons beneath the ruins of Greyhawk, and is awed at the fact that the party faced a multitude of monsters, including a blue dragon and even a demon! The young acolyte shakes his head after the story is told and speaks in a thoughtful tone. “You know… you and your friends just might be powerful enough to win that challenge the monks of the Dark Moon Monastery issued a couple weeks back.” Altamaic goes on to detail what he has heard about the contest, which consists of a challenge to any group of six or fewer warriors and even spellcasters to take on the three top masters of the monastery in a non-lethal combat. So far, none had bested the trio of monks to gain the promised the reward. “A ruby the size of a fist, they say!” Altamaic exclaims, then he drops his voice almost conspiratorially, though nobody is around so far as Verdan can tell. “But I’ve heard a rumor that the master of the Dark Moon is seeking a group of champions for something even better than the gem! Though what that could possibly be, I have no idea!”

Verdan priest of Pelor |

"The group has their harts in the right place, and they deserve a rest before gaining a new set of bruises, from monks or anything else. Talking about bruises my friend, when are you getting out of here and back to your studies?"
Verdan talks with Altamaic a little longer, with Altamaic saying what spells would be better than the ones Verdan used.
Then Verdan brings up the subject of the wizards tower and if Altamaic had any information on it. Before departing for the night with promise of returning for a visit soon.
Making his way back to the Green Dragon, Verdan keeps thinking about what his friend told him about the Dark Moon monks. Verdan has no interest in challenges but the need for heroes is something different. The life of an adventurer can be a blessing, if it is Pelors will. Looking down at his new magic armor.
I will need to send a hefty tithe to the church with the sale of my old armor and my share of coin. Verdan thinks to himself.
Arriving back at the Green Dragon Verdan see that the party is still in high spirits with a lot of drinking, singing, and by the sounds of it the blue dragon had doubled in size. He makes his way to his room, removes his armor and tends to the care of it and his other gear. Then kneels down for a prayer for his companions new and old alike. And that Pelor gives him the wisdom in knowing what Pelor's guidance for his destiny.

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn gratefully accepts the proffered gifts, stowing the Luckstone in one of his many pouches, and once the attractive barmaid returns with the wine and food he digs in with a gusto he had not felt in a while...not since he had made that infernal pact anyway.
If I knew back then...would I have made the same choices...I fear I would have. I was too young to waste away locked in a dank dungeon.
Shaking off the depressing thoughts he waves the barmaid Evessa back over to his table. "Later, before I am too drunk to stand, I would like it if you would draw up a steaming hot bath for me. Don't worry, I will make it worth your efforts." He nods at her, giving her a salacious wink.
Hearing of the odd challenge from the Dark Moon monks piques his interest further. "I have no idea why these monks would care about such things but it would be interesting to say the least." Addressing Morrow in a confidential tone he replies, "Delving into that Tower sounds like a fool's errand to me. Still taking the fight to that mage would be more satisfying! Tracking down his location will be the challenge though. Perhaps we can divine more of him?"

Evessa returns the halfling’s wink and promises to draw a bath for him later before asking if he needs any… help?
On the following day, the party spends most of their time at the various markets, selling equipment and purchasing gear that they will likely need – should they decide to delve into the ruins beneath Castle Greyhawk again. Glorb is eager to watch the procession of Riggby and drags anyone that shows the slightest interest in watching as well to accompany him to the Processional. Those who bear witness are awed at the massive crowds that clog the streets of Greyhawk, and though it looks like a parade there is a solemn silence as the famous cleric of Boccob is borne along the wide thoroughfare about two hours after noon. A good number of priests and armed guards accompany the bearers that carry the heavy-looking platform along the Processional. Riggby is displayed for all to behold, clad in blue robes, his long white hair flowing upon the soft velvet padding upon which he is laid. Though his skin is pale in death, it is obvious that magic has been used to preserve his body against the ignoble decay that would otherwise mar his peaceful state. It nearly looks as though he is merely sleeping, though the tears and cries of those that bear witness to his passage speak otherwise.
Finally, it is late afternoon when the adventurers are finished. Glorb tells his allies that he will perhaps serve the party better by keeping watch in the city itself, and will use his bardic magic to send them a message if he learns anything of interest while they are away – if they decide to return to Castle Greyhawk. The Tower of Magic is one possible destination, though there is also the intriguing contest being hosted by the monks of the Dark Moon monastery. There may also be other rumors to follow up on, should the party actively seek out such in the many taverns and inns of Greyhawk…

OOC: I will work on your character sheets, especially once you decide on what sort of gear you’re looking to buy. Verdan estimates about 1000gp each if the loot is split evenly and nothing more is claimed. Let’s go with that, and if your purchases a bit more we can work it out when I get the final figures. How does that sound? And what are your plans?

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn grins lasciviously at the barmaid Evessa and motions for her to follow him upstairs. "You know...these mechanical contraptions are a mite confusing. You can show me how it works...closely." As he heads off to his room he waves off the others, "See you tomorrow."
The next day Reonnyn tags along with Glorb, more of a sense of kinship with his friend than any interest in the deceased priest. Still he wondered idly whether some trouble would be stirred up...when the processional passes without incident he wasn't sure whether to feel relieved or disappointed.
After saying goodbye to his friend (and promising to take care of the pair of healing wands for the future) he returns to meet up with the others. "I have really little preference whether to go chasing after the Dark Moon monk prize or whether to delve back into the Castle again. I will say that...voice sounds like he would have little trouble finding us once again!"
Reonnyn will claim the two wands from the Party Treasure that Glorb was wielding before. Let me know if the Charges for each are indeed correct.

Morrow, Tue |

"While I care little for the stated prize of a huge ruby, if the master of the monastery has a task beyond that.... I'd be interested in hearing the details."
"But I'm also concerned that a champion of the ancient one knows of us. As Reonnyn says, he would likely have little trouble locating us again if desired. That may be of more immediate concern. We certainly wouldn't want to be in melee with a powerful opponent, only to have another demon dropped on us to make it harder!"
I put my 'purchase' interest in the discussion thread

The Dark Moon Monastery is a sprawling estate of white stone arches and enclosed courtyards overlooking the River Quarter from the small bluff supporting the Nolbes’ Wall. It is, in fact, only a short walk from The Green Dragon and as the sun begins to touch the western horizon the adventurers approach the monastery to see a group of monks training in the lengthening shadows of the well-manicured lawns of the campus. The doors to the main wooden structure stand open, allowing entry to all that seek to visit, and a pair of monks stationed to either side of the entrance invite the adventurers inside as they climb a short flight of steps. The interior of the main building is decorated tastefully with ancient works of art and weapons of unusual design. A large desk sits at one end of the vast foyer, and there are a half-dozen doors that lead further into the interior of the building. A monk clad in brown robes with a shaved head and a long ponytail glances up from a ledger he had been writing in, setting the book aside and smiling benignly at the group as they approach. “Welcome to the Dark Moon Monastery, how may we be of service to you?”

As I mentioned, I like the character sheet design on my old pbp board so will use those for my own reference. Feel free to use your own Paizo character sheets for your reference, but realize I am using the other ones when I look up your stats and such. I also track spell usage there, as well as when you use various abilities and magic items that have limited charges. In the next few weeks I’ll work on finalizing the character sheets of our newest players in the same format. Morgrym? Are you still with us?

Morrow, Tue |

Morrow steps up to the man with the rather strange hair style an smiles back. "At the inn yesterday we heard mention of a contest that you were holding, for a large ruby. But, more importantly, we heard that your monastery was seeking a group for something more important than that contest. We're not really that interested in the contest, or the ruby. But the second statement did sound interesting. Perhaps you know who we should speak to, about that?"

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn nods in greeting, glancing about him with a great deal of interest. "Not that we aren't interested in competing for your prize, it sounds like a reward worthy of your challenge! It is true there are other things to strive for right?" He adds with a charming smile.

Morgrym Black |

I am interested if only to earn enough gold to once more start my mercanary company. Thank you for the invite Morgrym says wearing the backpack with rope and grapple hanging off along with a bedroll and a small six person tent wrapped in a tarp and packed on top of the pack.

The monk raises one slim eyebrow. “I can assure you that I am aware of no other prize, save for a ruby the size of a grown man's fist. You have but to defeat three of the finest warriors our monastery has trained in the art of unarmed combat. As contestants would have no real chance of defeating our best using only their fists and feet, you will be allowed to use weapons and even magic - though the numbers against our own must not exceed two to one. However, as our warriors will not strike to kill, neither shall any of those going up against them. To break this rule is to forfeit the match immediately. If you are interested in the contest, sign your names in this book, along with where we might contact you. I believe we have an opening or two tomorrow, should you so desire.”
The monk opens another book and lays it on the table. Other names can be seen in a list that ends about halfway down the page.

Morrow, Tue |

Morrow reaches for the quill. "I can't recall ever swinging my sword at anything that didn't deserve killing. And how can a wizard's spells be blunted? I'm not sure about this contest. But are you the master of Dark Moon Monastery? If not, perhaps he has the task that I'd heard of but hasn't made it public knowledge to all? Or do we have to win this contest before the other can be discussed?"
"I only ask because a gem is of little use to a warrior such as I. A treasure perhaps, but to me just something to be sold for coin, usable maybe to make my equipment better."
I'll sign up for the contest if he indicates that's all that is here, or that can be discussed for the moment. Time to read up on non-lethal combat rules?

GM West |

The monk's lips twitch in a slight smile. "It is good that a warrior such as yourself puts thought into whether he strikes to kill unnecessarily. The masters have their ways in blunting the effects of both steel and magic that would otherwise cause harm. Those methods will be made apparent to you should you accept the challenge tomorrow. And no, I am most certainly not the master of this academy, though I will take your mistake as a compliment of the highest order."
After Morrow signs, he takes back the quill and looks at the others in silent inquiry.
No need to read up on the rules, I'll cut/paste the finer details when the challenge begins. If you all decide to accept!

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn pauses in thought here as he realizes he could not use his eldritch powers here, as he knew of no way to lessen their lethal effects. Still, he was intrigued by the notion of fighting the guards here in a more straightforward way.
I think it will be a challenge...yet I feel...confident. Must be that luckstone.
"I accept your offer." He adds confidently as he adds his name to the ledger.

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Being next in the line. Vardan talks to the monks
"I am sorry I know your monks would have no problems besting me in hand to hand combat. So I offer my services as a healer in case someone does not fallow the rules."

GM West |

The monk clerk nods speaks to the group. "Very well, you shall be contacted tomorrow. Where are you staying?" To Verdan, he adds. "If you desire to heal your friends during the combat, you will need to add your name and take part in the engagement itself. Though none of the wounds should be lethal nor life-threatening, the healing of bruises and the like is allowed - though know that you might become a target of the combatants if you are within the arena itself."
Anything more? Hopefully Cona will post soon, but at the moment I'm counting Morgrym, Reonnyn and Morrow as participating in the battle. My next post will start us off tomorrow and likely put you all back here at the monastery just before the battle begins.

A bit cold, with cloudy skies and periods of light rain.
Current time is around 11 a.m.
-------------------------------------------------
After taking down the information as to where you can be reached, the monk bids the adventurers a good night and you return to the Green Dragon Inn. The following day proves to be somewhat colder than yesterday, and the skies are heavy with grey clouds. It rained a bit overnight at some point, and as the morning progresses the light rain returns now and again for brief periods – but it’s hardly more than a sprinkle for the most part.
An hour or so after sunrise, a young man wearing brown robes and a clean-shaven head enters the common room before glancing around for a moment, his eyes settling on your group. He approaches your table swiftly and lays a card on its surface before giving you all a quick bow and then hurrying off without a word. Upon the parchment is written a time that indicates the hour just prior to midday, and an invitation to join in nonlethal combat with the three champions of the Dark Moon Monastery.
There is ample time to prepare for the battle, and the party makes their way back up the hill and onto the sprawling campus of monks. A different monk from the one you saw yesterday sits at the desk inside the entrance, but it is clear he recognizes your group, for he gestures and leads you through one of the doors and into a large room that might be used for training or the like. There are several tables with a multitude of various weapons that are padded with leather as well as number of empty leather sheaths of varying size and length. A large and formidable-looking monk with a black robe and a bright red belt stands behind one of the tables. “Welcome to Dark Moon, you are to be commended for your bravery in accepting the challenge you have been given in testing your skills against our very best warriors. Please approach, and you may either select among the weapons we offer or I will see to fitting your own with leather sheaths that will allow them to comply with our rules for this contest. If there are practitioners of magic among you that would join in the battle, we have a rod that will allow them ply a few of their spells to fit within our rules as well.” The armsmaster goes on to explain the details of the nonlethal combat as he fits the weapons of the adventurers with the leather sheaths.

OOC: For those of you participating in the battle, here are the rules:
1. All combatants must deal non lethal damage. Dealing lethal damage immediately ends the contest and results in forfeiture. To facilitate compliance with this rule, every weapon must be tied inside a padded leather sheath, which allows normal use but converts all damage to nonlethal. A character wishing to use a bow, crossbow, or sling is given 5 pieces of blunt ammunition that deals only nonlethal damage. Special weapon qualities that normally deal or affect lethal damage (such as flaming, frost, shock, and keen) do not function while the weapon is inside the sheath. Each spellcaster participating in the contest is given a special metamagic rod that allows conversion of damage from three spells per day to nonlethal. A character who casts spells spontaneously must spend a full-round action to cast a spell using one of these rods.
2. Combatants are not allowed to cast any spells or use any magic items before the challenge begins.
3. The combat is not over until either all three monks or all the participating PCs have been rendered unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise disqualified.
Let me know if you have questions and once we are settled, those wishing to participate in the combat will be led to the arena. Morgrym and Cona, please check out your character links below and take a look to make sure your character sheets look correct. You may have issues to discuss with me before I can finalize them, which I’ve PM’d you. Thanks!

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn waves off the offer to use one of the provided weapons and hands off his rapier to be fitted with one of the padded sheaths. "I am rather attached to this blade...be careful with it," He warns the monk jokingly.
Once his weapon has been altered he returns to the others and as he watches the monks prepare for the combat he turns to his fellows, "What do you make of this? I have a feeling we are being...I dunno...set up here." He shrugs helplessly, "Not sure how much to take them at their words. I suspect we may not like what their true motives actually are."

Morrow, Tue |

Morrow holds his sword out to be "sheathed". "I don't think it's a set up. Monks tend to take their contests very seriously." Glancing around at the arena setting he considers his spells and what he can cast without getting disqualified....

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Walking over to one of the monks Veradan asks "I am sure this wouldn't long with your skills. But is there a place I can sit to watch the combat?"
Once directed to a seat Verdan takes a seat and says a small prayer to Pelor for the safety of all combatants.

The monk quartermaster answers Verdan's question. "In order to make certain there are no attempts to influence the combat from outside, the contest will take place in an enclosed arena where the participants might utilize the entire chamber to find advantage. Spectators will be allowed to watch in the presence of the officials that will be observing from a separate chamber."
Satisfying himself that all weapons to be carried into the arena are sheathed, he checks a scroll that he pulls from a pocket of his robes. "The combatants that will participate in the battle are Morrow, Cona, Morgrym, and Reonnyn. Is this correct?"
After receiving confirmation, he steps to another door and opens it, speaking quietly with a monk in the corridor beyond. That one, clad in a yellow robe with a black belt, speaks words of magic that Zeux recognizes as the Detect Magic spell and studies the adventurers carefully before finally nodding his head once.
The quartermaster beckons to those he named aloud. "Follow me. The other two will accompany Quinto to the observation room."

Morrow follows along, quietly motioning to Reonnyn, "Once we start I've got a spell I want to cast to increase your strengths. It requires a touch so don't run...."

Reonnyn |

"Are you sure this is wise Morrow," Reonnyn looks up nervously. "Maybe not using our magicks here is part of the test...These monks certainly have their own agenda!"

Morrow, Tue |

Morrow considers, then shakes his head negative. "If this were about fighting as the monks do it would only be open to monastic orders. And they wouldn't let us use our weapons, blunted as they are. My spell will only add a little strength, speed and robustness to you. It won't turn you into a beast. The rules state that we can't use magic before it starts but we can be ready with it once they do. I can cast quickly and we can let them come to us."

As Zeux and Verdan are taken to a viewing place, the monk quartermaster leads those that have agreed to engage in combat along a wide corridor, which ends in a pair of simple wooden doors, which he opens and leads the way through. Beyond is a large, open arena with a stone floor and pillars supporting a wooden ceiling some thirty feet overhead. Several open pits are scattered about the chamber, revealing that the floor is only about a foot thick, with another room below. The lower level is roughly ten feet below the floor on which they stand and well illuminated, revealing that the floor down there is covered in about two feet or so of clear water. In the center of the arena, rising up through a very large pit located in that place, a stone column rises up from the partially flooded level below, a sturdy wooden ladder affixed to one side. Access to or from the platform at the top of the column can be had be crossing over one of two wooden planks that are about two feet wide and six feet in length. Three doors set into each of the other walls lead into the chamber, and even as you enter, so does a well-built man with shaved head and robes step through each of the portals, closing them behind.
Near the ceiling to the south, just above their companions, the cleric and the wizard find themselves in an overhanging room that looks down upon the arena. They are seated (or allowed to stand should they prefer) where they can view the entire the entire chamber through glass walls and a glass floor that allows a birds-eye view of the combat. They are in the company of three other monks, including the one that led them there. All remain silent, save for nods of greeting as they entered into the room.
Down below, the armsmaster holds the door open for those that follow behind him (Listen Check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26) and he smiles gently at Morrow when the duskblade passes, speaking in answer to his earlier whispered words to the others. “So long as the spells cause no direct harm, magic is allowed once combat begins. Each of you stand here and wait for the gong to sound. Then and only then may you take action. Luck to you.” Striding across the arena toward a large brass gong that is set against the far wall, he takes a position beside it. Each of the three monks bow in the party’s direction, their eyes serene and their bodies seeming quite relaxed. When the quartermaster strikes the gong with his fist and the sound reverberates throughout the chamber, the trio act swiftly, but the four companions are even quicker to react!

Let me know if you have questions with regard to the map. It's difficult to show the chamber below this one without some sort of a 3D combat map, but I figure when someone is 'below' I'll mark their token in some way so it is obvious. The 'below' chamber is the exact same shape as the 'ground' floor, albeit covered in about 2 feet of water and you'd judge about 10' high (or 8' above the surface of the water). Currently, all combatants are standing on the 'ground' floor. I'd like to move this combat along as swiftly as possible, since not all players are involved, and I don't like to keep them out of the action for long. I'm going to try and post every three days. If a player doesn't post an action, I'll NPC them as best I can. No take backs if I choose the wrong 'move' for you, so please try to keep up (and I'll try to do the same). You all may act before the monks get to take their actions!

Hearing the gong Morrow quickly speaks the words to his spell and touches Reonnyn, then steps forward with his sword ready.
+2 enhancement bonus to Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution to Reonnyn for 9 minutes. 5' step and waiting to see what they do.
Rules of the match question: If someone gets knocked into the lower level, are they out? If not, do they have to climb back up to continue? Or, if they stayed there would the other group have to come down to finish them to win?

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn accepts the proffered magic with a nod and then draws his rapier eyeing the best route to take here. Still a little uncertain what to make of these monks he slowly advance forward and decides to wait for the others to make the next move.
Move to map position [Double Move]. Reonnyn is intentionally moving slower than what his Boots allow here so as to hide his enhanced move rate.

GM West |

You definitely get the impression that getting knocked down into the sub-level is part of the combat. Rules for that are difficult terrain down there (for both humans and halflings!) and climbing up is only possible using the ladder attached to the column in that central pit. Movement across the plank is also at 1/4 speed with a DC 5 Balance check, or half speed at DC 10, 3/4 speed at DC 15, and full speed at DC 20. No Balance check needed if you take it at 5' steps each round (so two full rounds to cross with no Balance checks.)

Reonnyn’s Opposed DEX Check (Enh. Bonus, Luck Bonus, Size Penalty): 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 3 + 1 + 1 - 4 = 8
Green Monks’ Trip Attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 vs Morrow’s ‘Touch’ AC = Hit!
Green Monk’s STR Check: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Morrow’s Opposed STR Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Both Reonnyn and Morrow are struck down, and it appears the monks are well trained indeed with their kick sweeps, for the halfling is pushed backward into the open pit beside him, falling a short distance into the water filled-subchamber! (OOC: 5’ forced movement in any direction from successful trip attack is a special attack these monks possess) Reonnyn finds himself in chest-deep water while Morrow is knocked down next to the open pit near him and the monk sweeps an open palm blow at his chest, taking advantage of the trip attack to deal damage. But the duskblade is able to roll away from the punch, though he is still down on the ground with the open pit right next to him!
Green Monks’ Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 4 = 16 vs Morrow (Prone) = Miss!

Map History of the Ruins of Castle Greyhawk
Party is up! I was able to ‘mark’ Reonnyn as being in the room below with a reflection animation that is sorta like he’s standing in water. Cool, eh? Again, I’m going to try and advance this game every three days if possible, so give me your actions or I’ll NPC you as best I can. Remember that movement in the flooded room below is at half speed due to difficult terrain and the only obvious way back up is to climb that ladder, which you can do at half speed (10’ climb with no roll needed) and then cross over one of those 10’ long planks at 1/4 speed with a DC 5 Balance check, or half speed at DC 10, 3/4 speed at DC 15, and full speed at DC 20. No Balance check needed if you take it at 5' steps each round (so two full rounds to cross with no Balance checks.) Again, failure by 5 or more means a fall back down with no damage, failure by 4 or less means you just ‘lose’ that move action, though you can try again with your second action.

Reonnyn |

Unperturbed by this turn of events, Reonnyn tucks his blade under one arm and crouches low before suddenly springing out of the watery pit! Somersaulting as he lands lightly he re-equips his blade and salutes the monk with a grin, "Nice technique!"
Move: High jump action to jump out of pit. DC is 16 (8' distance - 4' of vertical reach = 4' distance.)
Jump, STR, luck: 1d20 + 14 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 14 + 1 + 1 = 33 That should allow him to clear the pit completely. Second move action is to Stand Up.

Cona Hamath |

Cona frowned, and moved quickly to help Morrow, striking and then dashing back.
OOC: Reading map as best I can, but assuming I can do this, move west 20 feet, attack, then west 20 feet. As such, Skirmish, improved skirmish, and expeditious dodge all play into it, and spring attack so I don't provoke AoO against him. So total AC is 30 if my calculations are correct. 24 normal, +4 for skirmish, +2 expeditious dodge. If I accidentally provoke any AoO as well, mobility will improve that AC by another 4 for those attacks. Extra damage is +4d6.
attack: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 325d6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 6, 6, 2, 5) + 3 = 25
confirm threat: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 211d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
OOC: Either 25 or 34 damage if the threat is confirmed.

Verdan priest of Pelor |

Watching the skill of the monks.
"This will be a good lesson of humility for them, for your monks are quite skilled and should have no problem in giving the lesson." Verdan says to the monks sitting next to him.

GM West |

Move: High jump action to jump out of pit. DC is 16 (8' distance - 4' of vertical reach = 4' distance.)
Reonnyn, it's a hell of an idea, but remember you're standing in chest-deep high water and can't get a 20' running start - which is what that DC requires. The height is also 10' from the floor of the sub-chamber (which is covered with 2' of water, so it's 8' from the surface of the water - apologies if my earlier post made that confusing.)
So without a 20' running start (it's difficult terrain, so no running possible), that excellent roll only gets you that 4' of vertical distance, added to your 4' height is only 8' total - which is about two feet short of grabbing the ledge.
Feel free to change your action if you'd like, knowing how I'm interpreting these rules. And do let me know if you see I'm in error about anything!

Reonnyn |

OK I see the mistake I made here. I did not take the doubling of the DC due to the lack of running space here. It looks like Reonnyn will try to Climb out of the pit next round then. Here is his Climb check: Climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

GM West |

Sorry, it's not a pit - it's actually a room that looks just like the one you're in, except that the floor is flooded. So basically when you look up you're seeing a bunch of open 'holes' in the ceiling. The big central hole has the ladder climbing that column - so no Climb check is needed. But then you'll have to cross over one of those narrow, flimsy planks and give me a Balance check. Choose how fast you plan on crossing over BEFORE you make your roll, as it affects the DC. Honor system in effect for that. :) So basically if you fall down a hole, you need to cross the flooded room below (at half speed) and then climb the 10' ladder (again, at half speed) and then cross back over on one of the planks at whatever speed you feel comfortable with, making a Balance check to see if you do it successfully or fall off the plank (or just lose your move action trying to regain your balance if you fail by less than 4). Let me know if you have any other questions! I did say that this room was kinda difficult to map out...

Reonnyn |

Reonnyn will attempt to move across at full (20') speed across the planks: Balance DC 20: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

GM West |

Reonnyn, are you moving at your enhanced speed through the flooded room? I think that'd be 30' (half of 60') for two move actions? I ask because that would get you to the top of the column at the end of your turn in this round. You would cross the plank next round (and you can keep that nice roll!)

Sure why not!

Morrow, Tue |

Seeing how easily the monk had tripped him, Morrow decides to attack from prone rather than trying to stand. He swiftly speaks the words of a spell and puts his full strength into the attack.
Quick cast True Strike, then Power Attack the monk.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 20 + 1 + 8 + 3 - 8 ⇒ (5) + 20 + 1 + 8 + 3 - 8 = 29 True Strike/Magic/BAB/STR/Power Attack
What's the negative for attacking from prone?
damage: 1d8 + 1 + 4 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 4 + 16 = 28

Morgrym Black |

Morgrym will attempt to identify the monks know local: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8 rage for free did any come within my reach? If they did I get a aoo and charge with a jumping leap snapping the chain out to connect with the monk
attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (5) + 18 = 23
damage if I get a 10 ft leap charge: 4d4 + 76 ⇒ (4, 1, 4, 2) + 76 = 87
jump during charge: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (12) + 15 = 27
