Alter Self only allows you to change your form into "the same type as yourself", and as a gargoyle is a monstrous humanoid, I'm thinking that's not an option, as your form would have to be 'Humanoid' only. This also accounts for it being only a 2nd level spell - which makes it of somewhat limited use, though in the right circumstance it could be VERY handy!
And yes, consider the metamagic rod of extend as yours!

Sorry, I haven't introduced myself, I used to play on GM west old greyhawk servers. Where you might know me as Pearl, Justin, Quagom, and Krezi. Its great to be back!
GM West |
Good to have you back, Krezi!! And a Happy New Years to everyone! I'm ringing in mine with a positive COVID test... Ugh!! Symptoms so far are very minor though - hoping they stay that way!
Haven't seen Verdan post yet, hopefully he's still with us though. So this is what I've got as needing to add to your character sheets. Anything I'm missing?
Potion of Cure Moderate Wounds + 4,500gp to Morrow, Neb, Verdan and Reonnyn
Ruby (8,000gp value), carried by Reonnyn
Air Elemental Gem - Reonnyn (purchase)
Ring of Protection +1; Amulet of Natural Armor +1 - Morrow (purchase)
Lesser Metamagic Rod of Extend - Neb (purchase)
Morrow, Tue |
Great to have another "old-timer" from the WorldOfGreyhawk servers. I was AGM Lemming there. Only ran a couple of games but played in quite a few. Hated seeing it die but glad to find this.
Aurora metalgazer |
Hey West, One little change to the char sheet. I found that maximize metamagic feat is not very usefull for a defensive artificer like Aurora. Can we change it to extend metamagic feat, it will be much more usefull for her infusions ( as it costs only 1 higher level spell slot ).
Verdan priest of Pelor |
Sorry still here. This move is eating a lot of my spare time. I have not even looked at what I might want to buy.
At a guess I will see if there is a periapt of wisdom +2 @ 4000gp.
or some Universal Solvent, Amulet of Natural Armor, Bag of holding I @ 4550gp.
I should look at another book other than the DMG.
Morrow, Tue |
Sorry I haven't posted in a few days. I had to do a 2-day drive to Iowa to attend my Brother's funeral. I'm working to get my head straight and get back to quasi-normal....
Aurora metalgazer |
My condolence for your brother Tue
Hitpoints
Hitpoints aurora: 10d6 + 10 ⇒ (3, 3, 5, 1, 6, 3, 1, 3, 5, 5) + 10 = 45
Hitpoints shadow: 8d10 + 10 ⇒ (5, 5, 2, 10, 6, 5, 6, 6) + 10 = 55
So
aurora: ( 6+3+5+3+6+3+3+3+5+5 ) + 10 = 52
shadow: ( 10+5+5+10+6+5+6+6) + 10 =63
Reonnyn |
My condolences Morrow.
Morrow, Tue |
Thank you all. I was really angry with him. But our little sister is really upset, and working to help her through it has also helped me. I'm good now.
Steve, We will be heading back home in a week and hoping I can find time to finally update the WotR thread that I'm working on, and set up the next thread in Discord so we can continue PBP. I'd like to at least get that started before our next chat game. I'll send an email once I'm ready.

I don't see much options, I could cast "Slick, Greater: As slick, except it grants a +15 competence bonus on Escape Artist checks" but it would require a concentration roll of 17 or higher to cast. Then I still need to roll for escape.
So I hope the other players see any option how to escape this.
If the Homunculus is destroyed I get 2d10 damage, if I die, the Homunculus dissolves.
As it has been 3 hours since with started the campaign the Blast rod spell , if I had casted it in the morning is gone, It only lasts 100 min , or 200 min with the meta skill.
I would have infused "Repair Serious Damage" into the Homunculus in the morning, as I did when when we approached the tower. ( it will repair 3d8 +10 points of damage ).
plz help, don't wanna die..
Reonnyn |
Hmm, looking at the abilities of the other PCs looks like your only chance is for us to destroy Red before its next turn. Unfortunately I don't know if we can save Shadow though. Definitely use the infusion here to buy Shadow some time since we don't have a way to heal it.
Hang in there Aurora...you are not out yet!
P.S. We need to get you a "Dimension Door" item somehow.
Morrow, Tue |
That is a tough critter! Pity we all rolled really bad to ID what it is....
Aurora metalgazer |
Question: If shadow would fire its hook, would I be able to cast a spell "armour of ethereal" on the Homunculus via the hook?
The spell target is "Armor or shield touched", but as armour is part of Homunculus.
Edit: Yay! Shadow and I are still alive!
Aurora metalgazer |
This is the spell, one of the enchantments I could cast is ethereal:
http://dnd.arkalseif.info/spells/eberron-campaign-setting--12/armor-enhance ment-greater--4918/index.html
Shadow would become ethereal, thus free from the grip of the blob.
But I'm also thinking that infusions require a full minute to create?
Correct, but you said this when I asked about action points and spell length
Hmm... yeah, I'm not a fan of action points. Let's revamp to say you can infuse a number of spells equal to half your level in one round (instead of the standard 1 minute.)
Aurora metalgazer |
If armour enchantment is off the table, would Repair Critical Damage ( 4d8 + 10 ) be allowed? Target of that spell is Construct touched
GM West |
Aurora, thanks for the reminder on Wand Mastery, you got the extra HP. Also, I think that'd apply to the 9th level Wand of MM, allowing you to cast it at 11th level and getting an extra missile for 6 total? Your 18 damage from the 5 magic missiles was enough to kill it (just barely), but I figured you'd actually done another 2-10 damage in addition if it came up short.
That said, I can't find where your metamagic feat Empower Spell allows you to use it with a wand? I searched around for a bit online, but came up dry. Do you have a reference for me? Was thinking it only applied to spells you actually cast. Thanks!
Aurora metalgazer |
Magic missile can only have 5 bolts ever. So the wand mastery is a bit lost on the MM wand.
About Aurora's ability:
Metamagic Spell Trigger (Su): At 7th level, an artificer gains the ability to apply a metamagic feat he knows to a spell trigger item (generally a wand). He must have the appropriate item creation feat for the spell trigger item he is using. Using this ability expends additional charges from the item equal to the number of effective spell levels the metamagic feat would add to a spell.
For example, an artificer can quicken a spell cast from a wand by spending 5 charges (4 additional charges), empower the spell by spending 3 charges, or trigger it silently by spending 2 charges. The Still Spell feat confers no benefit when applied to a spell trigger item.
An artificer cannot use this ability when using a spell trigger item that does not have charges, such as prayer beads.[/ooc]

Hope Verdan does better! With those rolls we'd hardly Spot a flashing neon light!
Reonnyn |
Yeah Paizo has been down. I needed to delete the Paizo cookies to login again.
Morrow, Tue |
Yep! Again....
GM West |
Couple rounds left! Verdan, check your spell list against the one I've got on your 'official' character sheet. It think it's a match, except that I think you have one too many 3rd level spells. I removed Invisibility Purge from the list on the official sheet (link at the bottom of my thread), but double check me and make sure I'm not shorting you a spell. And if you want to drop another one, just let me know. Thanks!
Verdan priest of Pelor |
I see what happened, I changed my Domain spells from cure serious wounds to Searing Light. Since I can change any spell into a cure spell anyway. I cleaned up my spell list so I have the 4+1 spells at third.
And looking at my spell list I shorted myself a 4th and a 5th level. The next morning I will add them in.
Morrow, Tue |
Clearing the cache worked, for now....
Morrow, Tue |
Odd that sometimes a post shows up immediately and others it takes a couple of minutes!
Aurora metalgazer |
West, not all infusions cost a turn to cast. For instance the "Repair Moderate Damage" only takes a standard action. Heat metal is a spell and also takes a standard action to cast. I would assume once casts, the spell effects travels with these half ogre's.
http://dnd.arkalseif.info/spells/players-handbook-v35--6/heat-metal--2824/i ndex.html
GM West |
Oh! OK, I think I get it now. Only some of those spells are actually Artificer spells, and some of them do list a casting time of 1 minute. The other spells from the PHB for instance cast as usual, as though you were a wizard, sorcerer or cleric. So if I'm reading the class correctly, you can cast ANY spell from the Artificer Spell List spontaneously, correct? No memorization is necessary? No Known Spells like a sorcerer? Damn, that seems pretty powerful, except that you don't have a lot of slots to use. Maybe that compensates or something.
Anyway, I'll rule that your spell went off as you'd intended. I'll roll Will saves for the five half-ogres that were grouped together (I'll exclude Purple, who was on one end I remember) next round (as no damage is taken in the first round anyway) and give me a damage roll with your next action for the 2nd round of the spell. Those affected will take that damage during your action in the next round.
Aurora metalgazer |
Yep, no memorization. But at 10th level I still only have access to 4th level spells. It makes a artificiar very flexiable, but most spells are support spells. No really big attack spells ( 3th level blast rod is an exception ).
Duration is also an issue for an artificiar, most spells don't last that long.
So it has its advantages, but also its problems
Aurora metalgazer |
Should I roll only 1 1d4 for all the halfogres that failed their save or is it 1d4 per ogre? I would presume its the first.
heat metal damage, round 2: 1d4 ⇒ 3 Saving throw for heat meatl is on object
Aurora metalgazer |
I am not infusion the rod with haste, I am infusing it with blast rod.
The haste part was ment that you said I could 5 infusions ( 1/2 my level ) in 1 round instead of 1 turn.
The spell itself:
You store energy within a rod, then unleash it in rays of destructive power. The blast rod can deal a total of 1d8 points of damage per caster level (maximum 10d8), either focused into a single blast or divided up among multiple blasts.
To use the rod, you designate how many dice of damage you wish to release, then make a ranged touch attack as a standard action against any target within 60 feet. Regardless of whether the attack hits or not, the damage dice you specified are subtracted from the total stored in the rod.
GM West |
Got it! Jeez, I must have been tired last night... Totally misread your post, as 'with much haste' is pretty obviously not the spell. Further, I thought the Blast Rod you linked was a magic item or something, not a spell itself. I'm with you now. Thanks!
GM West |
Still here folks, and still busy with zero mental bandwith to compose a decent post. Just want to keep you all appraised and let you know I'm still around. Gonna try like hell to get something up next week sometime. This weekend is my birthday and I'm headed out of town for a VERY brief vacation. Maybe that'll clear my head!
Aurora metalgazer |
GM West |
Apologies for my lacking of posting lately, my friends! Every year I forget how brutal the end of tax season is, and I either had no time or a severe lack of mental energy. That said, I'm taking a brief vacation where I don't think I'll have the time to post - at least not until the weekend. I anticipate getting back on track starting this Saturday - especially since I no longer have to work on the weekend! Thanks for your patience folks!
