Echoes of the Sephira

Game Master Red Velvet Tiger

Epic heroes chosen by fate stumble across an ancient secret and unknowingly become gods. Their actions will determine the destiny of the multiverse itself.

Tenro, that works! Also, have you ever gave thought to Mythic Powers? I can work with you on that since the magic users will get Mythic Magic.

I'm fine with 7.

I hadn't done that yet, since the game i was doing that conversion for went on one of those temporary holds where it doesnt start up again.

Seven sounds good. Damage multiplication not so much. I've crunched some numbers and in absolute optimal conditions, I could hit something like 91d6+1d10 plus whatever. And I'm going for something kind of intentionally sub-optimal, gestalt wise. Things like that'll make lucky rolls end encounters far too quickly. Especially when I'm spending two turns on support spells before I can even get into position to drop that onto someone.

Well, just let me know what Powers you are looking that and I will try to think of some Mythic versions for them.

Scarab Sages

I'm happy with 7.

Edit: Damage multiplication, not so much. If it was multiplied even by 1/4 CL, I'd be striking for about 64d6+28 with Joey. If it multiplied with full CL it would be 306d6+119. That would kill a lot of people, and he's not high damage for his CR.

Todo: Add to Trazzle's background about his coat.

Hm... have the workings of the relics been explained fully yet? I remember something being mentioned about Legendary Items, but I'm not sure.

I'm picturing having Trazzle's coat be intelligent and animate, and rummage through his bags for whatever he needs while he's busy performing other actions.

First of all, hello hello to all who come to this thread. Yes, that is a British accent online! ^_^ Now, to the nitty gritty as it were!

CAMPAIGN SYNOPSIS
The characters are a band of legendary, planes-hopping adventurers on the cusp of godhood. In their travels, they will come across something that completes their apotheosis. From there, planar antics ensue and the fledgling gods are drawn into a battle that will determine the fate of the multiverse itself. That's the basic synopsis, as I don't want to spoil TOO much. If you have specifics you need answered, just ask!

CHARACTER CREATION
Starting Level: 17th, as I decided it would be best if you had some time before godhood.
Gestalt Build: One of your classes MUST be a full caster! My reasoning is that a god must be able to cast the spells they grant their worshippers. Otherwise, it's paradoxical!
Ability Score Buy: I'm thinking, since this is going to be super epic, 30 point buy, on a 1-1 point buy, from base scores of 08. Crazy? Maybe, but you haven't seen what you're facing yet! ;)
Classes Available: All official Pathfinder and most 3rd party, subject to approval.
Races Available: All official Pathfinder and most 3rd party, subject to approval. I may allow custom races IF you make a very compelling case for it! I generally view custom races as lacking flavor, so if you have a concept for a race check with me and I will peruse my library of almost 1,000 PDFs to see if I find a similar race as the one you are proposing.
Starting Gold: 600,000 gold. Yes, that is lower than normal, but continue reading and you will see why.
Traits: 2 traits, plus a story trait from Ultimate Campaign, plus an extra trait if you choose to take a drawback.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE
1. The above character creation used in making the character.
2. Details about your character's divine portfolio, domains, favored race of servitor Outsiders, ect.
3. Three deific titles. You will be playing deities, the least you can do is come up with some epic titles!
4. Come up...

Is this still open for recruitment? Is this being played on some kind of maptools server? teamspeak? i didn't see how the game would be conducted in the opening post.

Gah, sorry Cydrius, I posted a minute after you, earlier, and didn't notice until twenty minutes later. I edited the post to include some words about linking backstories.

Cydrius, they are, but without having to pick the mythic ability. When you ascend, they rocket in power to being major artifacts. Or was there a more specific question?

Mako Senako, recruitment is open for a few more days (4 or 5? Too lazy to check at the moment! ^_^). And the campaign will be conducted right here on the messageboards as a play-by-post.

7 is fine,
damage multiplier: I agree, no. lol. without rechecking, I am doing... 1d8+32(36) per shot.. so full round vs touch ac.. if all hit- 400ish damage. O.O dear lord, +4d6 a shot. lol. Maybe I should tone it down a hair?

If I understand correctly, the relic is currently a legendary item and, as we are tier 3, possesses three legendary abilities. (For example, in my case, Intelligent, Animate, and Undetectable) Is this correct?

I haven't even calculated any kind of damage but I know my bombs deal 9d6 + slash damage, and leave incendiary clouds behind.

It is possible one of you noticed my gadgets and took an interest. My character would be NG-LG, and normally uses his inventions to aid people, any one, even kobolds and the like, when they are clearly not in the wrong. He wants his works to spread for others to learn and use, He also doesn't mind a good joke every once in a while. Even craft less exotic items for use haha.

any ideas forming yet?

wait, we can give our weapon/item legendary?

Hm... Oh! Here's an idea. I'll PM you, Darien.

Seven is good, as that's the core Greek Pantheon(Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, Hesita and the last one changes depending on where you look).

No to damage multiplication. Just not as fun.

Also, Ten, have you check out DSP's Mythic work?

Finally, shameless, yet relevant plug:

Mythic Mania

There will be DSP Mythic Psionic support, if the goals are hit.

@GM - i'm trying to work on this as much as possible but it's hard to do much without a race in mind. Can you get me the link to those books soon.

Nah Monkey I hadnt seen it.

I went and crunched the numbers, and at full rolls for everything and best conditions possible, Freddy will hit an optimized damage cap of 795 damage. Currently. When his build isn't finished. Without accounting for crits, which my Keen, (X)y Burst weapons are built to exploit (15-20 Crit Range, deal an extra 1d10 damage in addition to the critting). So, yeah. Multiplying might not be best.

Sadly, no ideas are forming, but it's been a pretty long day. Perhaps he commissioned some sort of compact mounted keyboard instrument, since lugging a piano around isn't feasible.

After one round my char. Can add Into to damage as well as do minimum damage in an AoE splash. So add another 110-130 damage.

Nido-Possibly. Sounds like a fun idea.

Darien, no need to tone it down. You haven't seen your foes yet. ^_^ Ever seen what a PC looks like after being put in an epic blender? Not pretty lol! And yes, you start with your deific relic as a legendary item, as per Mythic rules (No need to take the Mythic tier ability unless you want another.) Once you become a god, it turns into a major artifact, gains a load of powers, and possibly transforms in appearance to something suitably godly.

Cydrius, you are correct!

Billy, sorry about that, been working more on figuring out the campaign's flow, major NPCs, 'boss monsters', and such. I will try to have them up by tomorrow! Sound fair enough?

OK, MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENTS! SEVEN PCS SHALL BE SELECTED AT THE END OF RECRUITMENT FOR INCLUSION INTO THE CAMPAIGN! WE WILL NOT HAVE A DAMAGE MULTIPLIER! AND MY ALIAS' PICTURE MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE!

Omg... WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO RVT. OMG. EVERYTHIMG I KNOW IS A LIE!!!!!!!!

lol. I was just shocked that in a full round action attack I was doing almost triple my HP with splash damage. Lol.

DARIEN, I AM IT'S TRUE FORM! BOW BEFORE MY GLORY! ^_^

Making ALL of the crunch would be a lot of work if this character isn't approved, so... XD I'll get to all of the gritty details only if/when that happens.

Basic Character Outline:

Saya
NG Human Ghost Oracle/Psion (Kineticist)
Mythic Path: Hierophant

Traits: Fear Nothing (Way of the Wicked), Ease of Faith, Focused Mind

2. Details about your character's divine portfolio, domains, favored race of servitor Outsiders, ect.

Domains: Repose (Souls), Luck (Curse), Death (Undead), Protection (Defense/Purity)
Servitors: Psychopomps

Saya's powers and focuses are centered around curses - however, for the most part, her thought process trends towards cursing those who deserve it most. She's the type who would visit retribution on those who harm the innocent, and supports death as a positive.

3. Three deific titles. You will be playing deities, the least you can do is come up with some epic titles!

The Final Curse, the Eternally Risen, the Haunter of Nations.

4. Come up with ideas for a deific relic. For a real world mythical analogue, think Zeus' Aegis, the Mymir Stone, the Staff of Anubis, ect. Provide an idea on what sort of abilities you may want, but do not include rules! The rules are will be decided by me.

A protective amulet of some kind - when worn, it constantly curses those who attempt to harm the bearer. Small harm (such as cheating them in the price of a meal) is punished with small misfortune... but great harm would visit truly terrible suffering upon them. This is the sort of relic that would quickly disappear from those who were no longer worthy (i.e. those who'd abuse it for their own ends).

5. What sort of divine realm would you have? Which plane would it be on (Be generic, like 'the plane of law', because we will be using the Dark Roads and Golden Hells cosmology by Kobold Press, along some worlds from Lords of Gossamer and Shadow by Rite Publishing!)?

The plane of the dead (but rather more active than usual)

6. BACKGROUND! I would rather have a party of people with sucktastic crunch and awesome fluff, than a party with the inverse.

For most people, death is the end... but for Saya, it was only the beginning. Her attachment to the world was far too strong for her to rest in peace, and a particularly vicious murder left her filled with regret. Perhaps her return from the grave was inevitable... but what few could have expected was that at the same time she reformed in the world, she obtained divine blessings and magic. She was no simple restless spirit, and she soon struck out on her own, determined to make the most of things.

It started off small. As a ghost, Saya was able to go places that the living couldn't - through walls, high into the air, and certain murkier places... and she made it her business to disrupt the actions of those she saw committing crimes, haunting them and making them suffer as best she could. Even she doesn't know how long she spent doing this, but word about the vengeful ghost haunting the city soon spread, and the exorcists were called in.

Of course, a ghost can't be laid to rest so easily... and whenever they tried, she would soon reappear, often stronger than before. It was about then that her city played host to a visiting dignitary... and she realized that the world was a much bigger place than she'd ever imagined. The visiting dignitaries were quite foul, and so she took to haunting them... meeting some talented individuals in the process. Saya quickly took to haunting this group of heroes, following them on their adventures and growing stronger alongside them. In time, she learned to interact with the physical world, to story things within her ghostly body, and to cast spells that could harm others, yet she never lost sight of what she wanted.

She didn't merely want revenge. She wanted to make the entire world realize that those who did wrong would face their punishment, and she couldn't possibly rest in peace until she'd done that. She was truly committed to her quest, and her magic only continued to get stronger...

7. Post which one of the 10 Sefira your character embodies.

Netzach

8. Try to ask around other players and build the group's background.

Hopefully, Saya's own background will be able to mesh well with just about anything that will exist.

9.A post about why you want to play this character, what you bring to the table, and whether or not you intend to facilitate group cohesion (Read: YOU MUST! Even though your character will be a god, this is still a group-based roleplaying game. There will be plenty of time for independent stuff during downtime!).

Among other things, I REALLY want to play a ghost, and this seemed like a good opportunity to try. XD I've been bouncing this idea around for awhile now, and a gestalt cross between oracle magic (especially curses) and telekinesis sounds like all kinds of fun. As for group cohesion, my character is the sort who really likes her comrades and wants to protect them - as such, she's generally on their side and tries to help them accomplish their own goals while using her talents and abilities to best effect.

Rednal, I have a few questions and a few comments. The first is what your character's motivation is for joining what are essentially planar adventurers. Another is that each PC will have 5 domains when they ascend to divinity, you have 4. And lastly, have you heard of the Malefactor class? It's all about curses and ill-fortune, so it may mesh well with your character. It's on D20PFSRD. It's a very cool class.

Aaaaannddd now I have a 24 hour duration shapechange effect.

I can only hope my brother embraces the same kind of ridiculous cheese.

For Planar Adventures, it all started with haunting the other heroes of the group - in a positive way. She started visiting retribution on those who came after them, eventually realizing that following them around was one of the best ways to seek out evil and punish it. After all, they were actively looking for precisely the kinds of things she wanted to curse, so that worked out rather well for her... she's traveling the planes in the hopes of visiting even more retribution than before upon her foes.

As for domains, I suppose the basic Good domain would work for any NG deity, so I could add that. ^^

For the Malefactor class, it is interesting, but 1) In a game that's designed to be epic, I don't want powers that would reduce everyone else's effectiveness, and 2) I tend to build characters in Hero Lab, and the class isn't available there. ^^ I appreciate the thought, though!

Ok, got my pitches done, and I've assembled a list of the 3rd party books that I reference in the pitches. also, I've left a lot of ors' in my pitches, this is because I want to know for sure what is and isn't allowed class wise before I commit to anything. Oh and one thing that I'm kind of curious about is how one handles favored class bonuses in gestalt(do we still only have one favored class, do we still only get one of those bonuses at each level or do we get two?).

3pp booklist:

Little red goblin games
Heroes of the east 1,2,&3 (tao class, martialist class, and wudang sword style respectively)
Dragon tiger ox (Shifu prestige class, mythic content)
Primal host (primal host base class)
Tome of tomes (soul bound primal host breed)
War journal 2 (mundane crafting rules)

kobold press
Divine Favor: the Cleric (prophesy domain)

Dreadfox games
The sword master base class

I’m also tempted to add interjection game’s The tinker and Super Mega Ultra Mecha Fighting for You, Me, and All of Our Friends to that list. But there’s already an artificer god that applied; that and giant robots are the sort of thing that either everyone or no one should do (otherwise it’s very silly).

Hwan yu portfolio wrote:

Hwan yu; The paragon, the god hand, the shifu

Hwan yu is a god of glory, prowess, and progress; he cares little about what his disciples do, so long as they are good at it. When asked he will extol the benefits of virtue, an oft quoted line from his chef holy text, on prowess and consequences is: “he who kills a tyrant is as a hero, he who kills a saint is as a monster”. But he will not force any of his disciples to peruse virtuous endeavors. He embodies Gevuruh, bears the left arm of a dead god* and presides over the plane of battle **. His holy symbol is an archimedean spiral and his favored weapon is the jian (heroes of the east 3 – little red goblin games). He grants his followers the magic, war (tactics only), strength, glory, and Ki (dragon tiger ox – little red goblin games) domains. Unlike most deities his divine servitors are all devas (Dark roads and golden hells – kobold press) with varying amounts of class levels.

* Technically not explicitly allowed due to legacy items needing to be magic items, but I think this idea by virtue of being cool and not broken may warrant an exception. As far as abilities go Gevuruh is the hand of judgment IIRC so something to do with that would be cool and it is the arm of a dead god, it doing strange things to the nature of my characters divinity is a cool idea to pursue.

** I've actually got what I think is a cool idea for this involving the casino written down, but I’ll wait to see whether or not I’m accepted into the game to use it.

Hwan yu Backstory wrote:

In all but his tenderest of years Hwan yu most loathed the trait of incompetence, in both others and himself. To remedy this, as soon as he was able he left to study with the order of the third eye, a monastery famed for their mystical prowess. And though he did learn their arcane secrets, he found himself unsatisfied; for all his stupendous power he could not properly fire an arrow. To rectify this, he sought the flower knights, whose tails of elegant sword-play could be recited from heart by any lad old enough to hold a stick. And as before although he learned many powerful swordplay techniques, his skills where a poor substitute to the awe and terror that could be evoked with the arts of magic. And so he labored for seven years to combine the two into one discipline.

With spell and sword acting in harmony Hwan went to test his new found strength against a western blight upon the region. Two score sell-swords went to face the ogre grendel that day. Hwan was the luckiest of their number, only losing his left arm to the beast. After his crushing defeat he retreated to hermitage upon the top of a mountain to purge himself of otherworldly thoughts and hone his skill.

After a year and a day he felt himself approach the limit of his power, and was approached by a child of the mountain, who begged to be his disciple. Hwan agreed and taught the child the art of the sword. And as the child grew in skill so too did Hwan, soon he had more disciples and his skill continued to increase as well, it was then that he was struck by an epiphany: in order to master a skill you must first teach it to others. After another year of this a wicked dragon residing in the forest at the base of the mountain and his foul progeny ascended the mountain, seeking revenge against the sprit of the mountain for some ancient slight. And though the spirit of the mountain did fall that day the dragon and his ilk fell as well. The children of the mountain, in recompense for the skills he had taught them gave unto him their most sacred treasure, a desiccated arm marked with flames of blue. And said unto him “We know not why our father had this, but it should restore what you have lost.” And upon touching the arm to his stump it did rejuvenate, acting as his old arm did. Arm restored and pride bolstered he did descend from the mountain to wander the world to test his skill.

why I would like to play Hwan yu/how he can be ingratiated into the story wrote:

Speaking trope wise, this character is a blood knight, he can mesh well with and may well have previously encountered other martially inclined player characters and/or dueled them in the past (remember this guys idea of a good time is running around the world alternating between beating people up and teaching them kung-fu). And his primary reason for joining a group of plain hopping adventurers would be, again, the blood knight thing; he’s already traveled the world, meeting new people and then beating them up; So why not go to new worlds, meet their people and beat them up? I’d like to play this character in some small part because of the classes I’ve wanted to play an arcanist since the revised ACG came out, and I’ve gotten to play a martialist once before in a game that didn’t last as long as I would have liked. But mainly I just want to play a blood knight type character.

Faris Al-Fajr is the god of time, he embodies Daat, and achieved godhood thorough paradox; by going back in time and granting himself his mantle of divinity. He acts through his servitors’ the aeons and wields a key that, upon being inserted into a door can open that door to anywhere (or any when). He presides over the plain of history. After seven years Naran’s parents could no longer deal with such a child. His eidolon however, remained a mystery. When that sensation told him to stick his hand in an open flame to see what it would feel like he stopped ignoring it. Robot_nachos, I'm not sure if you have seen the post earlier, but characters will not begin as gods and all of them gain divinity at once through a story event. I wanted to clarify that, as it seems in some of your backgrounds you either use the god stuff as present tense or you speak of apotheosis through some other method.

FORGOT TO MENTION, NO DEATH FROM MASSIVE DAMAGE, OTHERWISE JUST ABOUT EVERY TURN SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO ROLL AND IT'S TEDIOUS! PLUS, NO ONE WANTS TO GET ONE-SHOTTED AND IT WOULD SUCK BUILDING HIGH CR CREATURES AND HAVE THEM DIE BECAUSE OF A NATURAL 1 ROLL AGAINST DFMD!

Yes, I got that, it's just much easier for me to write in active voice then a passive one. ;) unless something weird happens, those are the gods those characters would become.

Also is the apotheosis through some other method thing that your referring to Faris's apotheosis? Because that doesn't need to be something un-subtile as future Faris walking up and shoving divinity down Faris's throat it can (and probably should) be something more like the typical time travel angle of "why yes I did engineer that whole situation, thank you for noticing."

You lucky bugger you! Ever since mine and TSP's friends had that dumb squabble, we haven't really had any tabletop games! T_T Stupid barbarian threw the alchemist through a door! >_< The barbarian was irritated by the alchemist's RP'ing (It's a ROLEPLAYING GAME! Jeez!), so to open a door, used him to knock it down. I wanted to reach across that table and slap the RL player and I wasn't even playing the alchemist! So, the alchemist threw a rock, the barbarian got angry and swung his two greatswords (Titan Mauler archetype, shameless Diablo 2 Barbarian impersonator!) at the alchemist, who then retaliated with bombs. I was so VERY p!$$ed!

Robot_nachos, I can't really say what the event is, because it's an in-game event and I don't want to spoil it. You could definitely say that your future self got you involved with the PCs so you could complete the apotheosis that your future self achieved, thereby ensuring the 'future you' in another timestream. How odd would it be if the god of time existed in only ONE possible future lol? Also, have you looked at the Time Thief or Time Warden classes or the free Futureborn race?

and I wouldn't expect you to tell me about plot stuff in advance either. But still, that's not a bad idea at all, Faris's future self could have come from a future where something horrible happened. and I've seen the time thief and the future born. The former I wasn't too impressed with and the latter isn't quite what I'm going for fluff wise (I will check out that time warden though). I will check out the time warden though. Oh, and was there anything from the 3rd party book list that isn't ok to use?

Robot, the only thing that I would not allow from the list is the mecha one. It reminds me too much of Armored Core and Gundam!

Scarab Sages

What's wrong with Armored Core and Gundam? Gundam was really good back in the day when everything was about dramatic flashes of insight and Char was awesome both as a villain and hero.

Ok I should have some stuff up by the end of tomorrow.

Nothing's wrong with either one, they just have really distinct feels that deserve their own campaign setting, like DragonMech, which I also have books for!

Scarab Sages

Okay, with that I agree. The creatures that inhabit your realm should fit with what you're going for.

I'm curious, are we going for a comedic lot? Roman/Greek Style? Celtic? Chinese gods or even Japanese spirits and oni? Old world religions?

What do people have in mind for the campaign?

Thirrian Veldon

Ok, more fleshed out.

he is an advanced Gunslinger/machinesmith. (I am refluffing the advanced template to a clockwork upgrade, IE, he has modified his body with his own prosthetics, GM allowing) Image I think it fits his appearance well. well, well enough.

Divine portfolio- Creativity, innovation, invention, Freedom, Dreams, Ideas, Forge, Art, Weapons.

Domains- Fire, Artificer, Knowledge, Rune, Mechamagic

Artefact- I was actually thinking a idea of 2-3 artefacts that grow more powerful if you have more than one. A rifle, A pair of goggles, and a clockwork machine that helps your building/repairing.

Deific names- Lord Inventor, The Great Craftsman, he who tinkers, The Innovator, Master Maker.

Divine Realm- Clockwork/metal, buildings and structures fall apart, then resemble the gears and cogs into something else at a thought. Arcane streams running through the area like electricity.

Servitors- Mechanic Angels, clockwork beings. (all with built in AI!)

Sefira- Keter- inventor, therefore creation?

I love steampunk, and I personally love the oddball inventor type, I have never gotten to play a character like this before so I feel stoked! He will even become the god of steampunk! until he invents the newer and better things :3.

I'm not sure exactly what RVT has in mind for us, but it would be really cool for us to be a soon to be new pantheon of deities, either for our own world, or ridding a bad or inept established one.

For my part, Ice King is probably going to be a bit bipolar(HA!). He definitely is a darker(not evil per se) character, what with Winter/Darkness being his main portfolios. But, as he is based off of the Ice King from Adventure Time, he will have cartoony, silly moments as well. Once the game starts and I get more of a feel for the setting, group, etc, I can adapt that aspect of his personality to fit in.

Domains would be Darkness, Death, Winter, Ice(there's 3pp full domains, as opposed to a Sub of Water), and not sure about the last. If there was an Undead and Necromancy 3pp domains, I would take those instead of Death.

Kios, how the PCs that are selected form a pantheon is up to them, as is some of the details of their godhood. My only rules regarding that is that it make sense and the party stays together adventuring (Later, their avatars adventure together.), other than that, most things can be up for debate.

As for the campaign flow, it will start off railroad-y, then once godhood is attained, players will be free to do whatever 'adventures' they desire until the end of each 'cycle', when they are faced with story events that shape the multiverse in profound ways. Only as the last cycle begins does the railroad-y stuff appear, but trust me, it makes sense for ALL characters to participate, unless they are absolutely insane.

Darien, you know there are rules for clockwork prosthetics, both within and without the official material, right? You could save those levels and spend some gold to acquire these, which are much cooler than the advanced template! ^_^

Petrikov, let me get back to you on those domains! ^_^

Does anyone notice I like ^_^ faces a lot?!
