Oh, also, a note to all my games: I'll be donating bone marrow next week. I expect this to be mostly incapacitating wednesday-friday, but how much energy I have in the week before/after to post to games may depend on how much residual pain I'm in from the drugs/procedure etc.

Yvell Endymion |

Be safe man, that sounds brutal.. Im too much a wuss to donate anything... especially if it involves needles *shudder* Sad thing is.. it isnt the pain.. its the act of needles being used.

Perdix the Scholar |

Used to work with a fellow who hated needles so much that he would go without Novocain at the dentist.
I had a dentist talk me into skipping the painkiller once "It's a really shallow cavity, you won't need it. "
He lied. Never again.

Yvell Endymion |

Owwwwwwwww...
Now I understand the need for such I just said I hate it... for such situations I looked away and had the person hold me down. I know better then to have dentistry without it or similar.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

I actually tried to ask out the cute hospital receptionist who I was chatting with for an hour and thought I was being super-heroic, but she misunderstood me, and I decided not to clarify and ask again because my ankles were on fire and I just wanted to go home.
Ugh oh well.

Yvell Endymion |

The things we do for great bravery and fear. You wanted to look cool and didnt clarify.
Oh I also wont be able to make a scroll till we level as I have no ranks in Spellcraft as that is not Yvell's forte.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

Nah I just need a girlfriend. Got out of a long-term relationship recently, have completely forgotten how to talk to single women since, and still trying to figure out how to turn this bone marrow thing into dates. Until then, I fill the void by visiting the paizo forums 4x/day instead of 2x/day.

Yvell Endymion |

Ahh sad to hear that, its a subtle dance, Seduction. And depending on what you want out of it, it can be difficult to nigh-impossible.

Muga |

I'm not terribly concerned with optimization at this point. For example, why isn't my weapon adamantine? Why didn't I choose a useful order? At this point, I'm just seeing how long Muga's bloody mindedness lasts, and roleplaying him as more of a traditionalist who refuses to change the way he fights because it's always worked for him in the past.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

I guess? Your AC is basically zero, though. (the rule of thumb I usually use is a "good" AC = level + 20, while a "useless" AC is anything below level + 10)
To be fair, I've seen how tough you made Illia-, which is about to make her the sole target of four seriously nasty advanced aboleths.

Muga |

Super tank is my default build choice when I aim for top performance. Seriously, I've got a looot of super tanks. This time around, I emphasized theme first, made a few considerations to power, and then those considerations got ninja'd by errata.
As a mechanical exercise and "what if scenario", I did build a super tank Muga, with the fluff of him being killed and then reforged inside a cyborgy-enough to use Android rules body. For funzies.
But unless Muga dies, I'm not going to radically shift his build.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

We've got different definitions of "tank," I think—in my experience, a good pathfinder tank should never, ever have to rely on their AC. Reach + maneuvers + shenanigans + redirects, etc. This guy is the biggest tank I've played. (If you're hard to kill but give your enemies no reason to focus on you, you're not a tank, just a doorstop)
I was mostly just talking about buying a Ring of Protection +1, Amulet of Nat Armor +1, +2 O-Yoroi, and maybe a Jingasa of the Fortunate Soldier, which for a handful of cash would boost you up to AC 25.

Perdix the Scholar |

It's not that hard to build an AC tank which does good damage. That's a plenty good enough way to keep attention.
I have seen people go too overboard on being an inert lump of a tank, where they couldn't do any damage. Then they usually take antagonize, but that's a touch iffy IMO.

Muga |

Which would also slow me down and remove the primary theme of my character's swordplay. Switching to Heavy Armor isn't a move I want to make, and trying to get my AC up without moving to Heavy Armor isn't remotely viable.
I am aware that AC is not the primary measure of tankiness. One of my tanks was a caster that, while also having a ridiculous enough AC to ensure they were never directly damaged, was also capable of intercepting damage aimed at any adjacent party members, and had a huge refreshable temp HP pool so that they could do this all day. While also dealing monk level annoyance/mook clear damage.
Another was an unusual tank in that his "super tank" feature was granting every single party member a +29 Will Save with Evasion for Will thrown in. And 15d6 multi-target force damage touch attacks. APL 10 for reference.
*Why yes, I do play with a lot of third party, why do you ask? :P
TLDR: If I was concerned about Muga's personal success, why doesn't he ever accept the rage?

Yvell Endymion |

He alluded to earlier but Yvell in General is a Tank. He has enough AC to be just within the range of Hittable and even if his AC doesnt matter HP, Recovery and Saves push him through. A True Tank is able to handle multiple situations regardless of HP and has defenses for a multitude of problems while also being a threat.
I purposely didnt put much more into his AC because its currently fine.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

Switching to Heavy Armor isn't a move I want to make, and trying to get my AC up without moving to Heavy Armor isn't remotely viable.

Point. But you can always go Mithral Breastplate + Belt of +6 Dex/Str to get your AC up to about the same point without losing any speed; it's just not economical at this level.
@Yvell: We've all got a different definition of "tank." Mine is "a character who protects the rest of the party from damage" which works best with classes like Monk, Fighter, and Brawler (who other players often call the "bad" classes, mostly because they are often played improperly). That said, those are three of my favorite classes. But there's nothing like a high-dex Archery Fighter to tank a party well.

Yvell Endymion |

This is indicator if you want campfire talks or whatnot otherwise its whatever.
@Gram: I dont think so, i just think our requirement for such things might be lower or higher. As demonstrated by your Class choices, nothing about them are particularly better at going said definition of Tanking. Hell off the top of my head Sacred Shield blows alot of that out of the water. Slayer, Ranger have similar leanings.. And you haven't seen it yet but SKALD actually does this.. really well. Heck you all would be benefiting more next level.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

Eh. Skald's BAB is too low to tank effectively in my playbook, end of story.
Now, a good Archery Ranger can turn an army of devils into a linear pile of devils, which the AoE casters in your party are sure to love.

Yvell Endymion |

What does BaB have to do with tanking? That completely contradicts your previous statement considering you considered Monk (One of the weakest classes in the game) to be a Tank... somehow.

Grammanar Gun-Runner |

@Muga: The Archery Ranger tumbles away through their square, using his massive acrobatics score (or just a withdraw action), then AoO grapple/disarms every single Erinyes as it tries to chase after him or teleport away.
@Yvell: If you can't stop enemies from reaching your party, you're not a tank.
As for monks being weak—the Unchained Monk is one of the strongest DPS classes in the game (behind brawler, fighter, and certain bloodrager or ranger options). It trades off a bit of defenses to get there.
The vanilla monk has Maneuver Mastery, which with Flurry (and possibly Pummeling Charge) means you'l have full BAB in 95% of situations. Monks, like Fighters, can be extremely weak if you try to use them like a barbarian or rogue, but (especially with archetypes like Tetori or Maneuver Master) they're also two of the most powerful tanking options, which is why I find it silly when people decry them as "weak classes."

Muga |

Or, you know, the Erinyes proceed to murderize the party you left behind. You are no longer doing any tanking for them. You can't full attack, and the Erinyes don't need to move to attack your party.
Your entire shtick, when playing AoO archer, is completely negated by obscuring mist or a smoke bomb.

Juxt Ventalem |

Hey guys, sorry for the absence. My wife's grandmother suddenly passed a few days ago and we had to make an unexpected trip up to Ohio for the funeral. Couldn't really find the energy to post while I was there.

Muga |

No problem. It's pretty much a given that Yvell moves the party along, and we interject our flavor when we've got something special to add. He is the ambulatory crust that holds our adventuring pie together.

Valtyra Brightsong |

Sorry sorry sorry sorry! Sorry about the delayed absence everyone. Between school and thanksgiving my time has been slim. But I am back now. ^.^

Yvell Endymion |

There are indeed Jolly Holidays currently and as such I suppose a break here or there to spend the appropriate amount of time with your family regiment is due. I wish you all the best of said holidays.

Yvell Endymion |

Well that was a riveting experience, there is little reason why I do not visit more often... *Yvell Voice*
Time to get back at it.

Yvell Endymion |

To be fair she hasnt really been needed to respond as we have been dungeon delving for a while. Much like Valtyra from time to time. I would give her a bit before removing anyone though. Im not sure what you mean by 'easier'

Yvell Endymion |

I apologize for my absence, as it was greatly unplanned and annoying. In Kalamazoo, where I currently live, there was a power outage at first about 10 days ago for about 2 days, I was able to use the uni because the campus had generators for most of the important functions. Then not long after it happened AGAIN because of a very bad accident, vehicles were involved. This cut out the power mostly to the area where I lived.
I endevour to catch up to all my games and apologize once more for any interruptions on my behalf.
Let's continue I suppose. Nothing seems to happen unless Yvell is pushing.
