I am LOVING the sudden unexpected reveal in the dinner segment, Cellion! I'm a sucker for playing characters from dark backgrounds looking to redeem themselves through shining goodness! XD

![]() |

Hey guys, I'm back and trying to catch up! Bear with me.
Any suggestions for a new long-arm I could buy for around 2200 credits? I need a new rifle to up my damage and am low on time for research.

![]() |

super useful equipment link link
how about a blaze rifle, ifrit-class? For the credits listed, you are looking at a level 4 weapon.

![]() |

Sounds like what Isu needs is a LASER! POWERED!! GOBLIN!!! SMASHER!!!! A real THUNDER! STRIKING!! WIZARD!!! THRASHER!!!! You know, a HEAVY! METAL!! DARKLORD!!! CRASHER!!!!

Oh man, these are the guys you mentioned earlier. You're right, they're so 100% Starfinder. And oh so cheesy. :D

Out of game, I've been listening to a group called The Midnight (link) a lot recently. They're my new musical obsession

Hi folks!
I've noticed that posting rates have tanked dramatically for the last two weeks and most people are not engaged with the game. As a GM, this is very demoralizing. Roleplaying to a thread and getting one or two people responding is not fun (the equivalent of F2F play where half your players don't show up to the session, or worse, show up but are on their phones the whole time). I'm left wondering if I'm doing something wrong in setting up scenes to roleplay in, investigate, gather information, etc. If there's some feedback you guys have for me in that sense, feel free to send it my way.
Beyond that: Based on my past experience, games with low posting rates almost inevitably die out. The game is only as strong and as fun as the amount of energy that the players (including the GM) put into it. I'd love to continue playing and running Dead Suns, so I'd like to solve our current situation. For those of you who haven't been posting regularly on a day to day basis, please let us (or me, by PM) know what's up.
If your schedule, life situation, or general interest level make it so that you can't play frequently or engage in the game, I think you owe it to your fellow players to either rearrange things so you can dedicate the time OR to step down from playing entirely.

![]() |

It's a good point. I'm still on board, though I have been posting shorter posts during this in between phase between books, kind of waiting for the actual game to start again. That might be one issue. I know Arc loves long talking scenes but I am more than ready to just get back into the the actual adventure.
I do agree as a GM for other games, that post rate makes or breaks the game. If we don't get a faster post rate, it is probably time for the game to end.

![]() |

I'm worried I might be at fault because I'm posting too much and dominating scenes. Isu's right that I love long talking scenes and while we did put that in spoilers to keep things moving, I worry it slowed us down anyway because none of the other players get the same attention from you, and if that is true I do need to dial it back a bit.
I'm honestly a little scared too, I had another game die on me a few weeks back and if I'm being completely honest I'm still upset about it, so I'm really, REALLY invested in keeping this one alive, but if I'm being overbearing, then I need to change my behavior...

Sydney Jordan |

I'm sorry for falling off the planet D: I have a lot of hobbies I want to partake in. If there is another person wanting to join, I'm willing to step down to let them take my place. It doesn't mean I'd be gone, I'd still ghost. I don't want to hold people who like the faster pace games. I got behind and now I feel confused on the story progression, is the party going to confront pirates or cultists

GM Cellion |

Isu, its probably just a difference in playing style, but I consider this "in between books" portion very much part of the actual adventure. It gives context to the combats ahead, lets you gather intel, and gives you the opportunity to pursue your character's personal goals. I've noticed Isu is much more focused on the combat portions of the game, but I was hoping I could entice you into some of the game's other facets as well :>
That said, we're just about done with the current Absalom Station check in, and after this we're back to the action for quite a long stretch.
---
Arc, I would not worry about posting too much. In Play by Post there's little harm in being long-winded or posting frequently (it doesn't drown people out the way it would F2F). Every scene (beyond the one we intentionally put in spoilers) was wide open for other folks to chime in on. Just keep engaging the other PCs with your frequent posts and you can't do any wrong.
In any case: As long as you remain interested in playing, I wouldn't worry about the game dying. I'm interested in running the AP to completion.
---
Sydney, I get the too many hobbies thing! If you'd like, we can have Syd head off on her own off-screen mission. That way we can open up her spot in party for someone else, but also leave an opening for you to pop in for a cameo!

![]() |

Oh, I am SO interested in playing! After that one I was talking about died this became the most in-depth PbP I'm in! And thank you for that side-arc for Arc, I really enjoyed that!

![]() |

I also like adventure and exploring, not just combat. But I would rate long conversations as the piece that I participate in least, probably. At least with this character. I also play an envoy who likes talking and has a really distinct personality in Starfinder. I guess Isu is more of a take action type of character.

GM Cellion |

I want to keep playing for now if that's okay, but I can step down if I step away again
Totally good.

Sorry, I've got to find a job, which takes up my time on the computer and takes my energies away from the game. It's like I just look at the job boards waiting for jbs to come by, it's not what I thought would happen. I'm not so good between books either, thats in any pbp and other games. I will have to do better.

I certainly contributed to the lull in posting with my 10-day vacation. I have also been busier recently than I used to be, which is affecting my posting rate and quality.
I think my idea of a crime lord droid hasn't dovetailed all that well with the adventure--the one time I had the opportunity to develop some criminal contacts, I rolled very poorly.
I am usually a 1/weekday poster and 1/weekend. I can continue, though if you'd rather open recruitment to bring in some heavier guns, I certainly understand. Otherwise, I'll keep plugging away.

Thanks for typing all of that out. I know it must have been a pain with all those tags you put in.

Looks good Sydney!
I'll update the handouts slides with your ship's new stats. If you want, you can keep tweaking it for at least a bit longer.
Not that you'll need it soon or anything. Nope. :P

@Solaria: Sorry to hear you're on the job hunt. Hope you find something good soon! If you need time away from the game due to being tired out, just keep us in the loop.
@Spectre: Yeah I knew you were out traveling, so no worries.

Oh, crud! I didn't realize that's what you were up to! I'm sorry! Take as long as you need. Solaria's always a delight no matter when the posts are! :(
So what changed in the build, Sydney? We got a freakin' NUCLEAR MISSILE LAUNCHER! But what else?
I think my idea of a crime lord droid hasn't dovetailed all that well with the adventure--the one time I had the opportunity to develop some criminal contacts, I rolled very poorly.
To be fair, I think that's partly our fault. It wasn't just the roll, but the fact that me and Isu intervened and made those smugglers not want to cooperate with us, which would have made them more open to working with you. To say nothing of the opal incident at the Plague Maiden. While Spectre doesn't care what we think, I imagine it's gotta be frustrating as a player if your party hampers your character's goals.
Another aspect that may help is maybe doing something similar to what Cellion and me did with Arcalinte meeting his dad, having some side-scenes where Spectre gets to fulfill his primary function. You could, for example, get in touch with Radaszam "the Dealmaker," the leader of the Acquisitives faction of Starfinders. While they're more "mercenaries" than "criminals," I imagine they'd appreciate Spectre's profit-oriented attitude. Also, I think you'll have more chances to start weaving that web of criminal contacts in this book once we finish this "intro" in the Diaspora.
Oh, so it's like pirate territory and the undead space terrorists are hanging out there
Sort of. The coordinates of the cultists we're tracking are in pirate territory, and Grix has just informed us that the undead space terrorists are suddenly interested in that area too, so we we may encounter any of the three there: Cultists, Pirates or Undead Terrorists. Maybe even Undead Pirate Cultists! D8
Something else I forgot: Were you the one keeping track of loot, Isu? I don't think I entered the amount of credits I got from our great loot sale on my sheet to start spending...

![]() |

i told everyone in discussion how much credits you got. You'll have to go back to find it.

Does anyone play Animal Crossing New Leaf? I've recently gotten back into it
I remember playing ye-olde original Animal Crossing on Gamecube ages ago. Very chill game, though I'm not sure if I have time these days to play the sequels. Stardew Valley though is 100% on my list to try at some point.

![]() |

I keep hearing great things about Stardew Valley, but I've already got enough games to work on right now...mostly Total War games, Paradox games and D&D-based RPGs.
May I make an aid-another check to help Spectre, since it's a separate check from Solaria's check to get them interested in parlez?

Solaria Jesari |

Hope you all enjoyed the 4th of July and wake up with a clear mind today ... ;-)

Sorry for disappearing. Best/Worst excuse: Life. I love playing with you guys, but I know I'm not a driving poster. If I'm too slow, I understand. And... with saying that... I'm at scout camp this next week and will be MIA.
~~~Ted Under Level 5:
1st lvl spells per day, EAC, KAC, Fort, Ref, Will, Int, Spell DCs, Init +1
Dex, Con, Wis +2
School necromancy
Range touch
Targets one living creature or construct
Duration nstantaneous and 1 round/level; see text
Saving Throw Fortitude partial and Will partial, see text;; Spell Resistance yes
You concentrate key particles in your blood into tiny biological nanobots that you can inject into a foe with a touch, disrupting and damaging its natural processes. Make a melee attack against the target’s EAC; if you hit, the nanobots deal 4d8 damage and swarm through the target’s biological or mechanical systems, causing the creature to be confused, as per confusion, for 1 round per your caster level. If the target succeeds at a Fortitude save, it takes only half damage and negates the confusion effect. A confused target can attempt a Will saving throw at the beginning of its turn each round to end the confusion effect.
Casting this spell doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity.
By the way... I totally forgot to submit Book 2 for SFS credit! So I went back and submitted it today. Here's the chronicles, to be used with your SFS characters.
Cellion, you are absolutely right the rules say that. They probably didn’t want players to do exactly what I did. But...for sure jumps go three times are far. So maybe the jumps just go really slow? I’m trying to wrap my head around how low gravity can make you goes 3x distance but not actually do that when you try it.
![]() |
I am going with the interpretation that you can jump 3x your normal distance but you do it verrryyyy slowly. That makes sense to me.
Yeah, that interpretation makes a lot of sense!
