Weird question: anyone here played any of the following games...

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth

Endless Space 2

Stellaris

And if so, which would you recommend? Playing this game with you guys has given me the itch to get my Space Opera on in a game that ISN'T Mass Effect or Warhammer 40K.

I've played two of the three.

Beyond Earth is ancient. That one plays similar to a Civilization game, but in space colonizing a new planet.

I have not played Endless Space 2, but have heard good things about it. I would imagine it is slightly less complex than Stellaris.

I have a good 150 hours of Stellaris played on Steam. It is absolutely a huge space opera where you can play any kind of civilization you could possibly imagine. You control every aspect of the society in a galaxy ranging from a hundred stars to a thousand. You explore systems, find anomalies, and build up from a single planet to a star empire. Great game.

I don't think you could go wrong with either of the last two you mentioned.

I'm kinda scared of Stellaris, despite hearing its greatness proclaimed by all. I have Crusader Kings II, it's hard, and I'm terrible at it. I barely know how to play the game, much less play it competently...and I'm worried Stellaris will be just as hard, so I'll have wasted the money.

I’d say that Stellaris is more intuitive than CK2. That said, it’s made by the same company. There are endless stories, but I would imagine ES2 would be simpler.

I've played Sid Meier's Civilization III, V, and VI. What's the incentive to play Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth? Is it like Civ but with a Starcraft twist? The game has mixed reviews on Steam but it still looks like something I'd play.

On the subject on Steam games, I've gotten a lot of enjoyment out of Frostpunk. It's a city management game but there isn't any combat. It's hard because you have to juggle scare resources and keeping the last of humanity appeased. Some of the choices you deal with but you in a real ethical dilemma. It's pretty dramatic and depressing at times but soooooo good!

RimWorld is an interesting game with endless mods. I wouldn't say I recommend RimWorld but it's another space adventure game. You control some colonists who arrive on a planet and you have to get them off it. It's interesting and fun because of all the weird things that can happen to the colonists.

Have you heard of Starbound? It's like Terraria but you can explore infinite space. There are quests, combat, you get a spaceship to upgrade and decorate. Or have you heard of Oxygen Not Included? I LOVE Klei games and Oxygen Not Included was another decent game by them. You control a colony in a sandbox environment and help it expand while protecting you colonists from the planet and monsters. (I love city management games, haha)

I know Warhammer 40k has several video games, but I've only dabbled in the tabletop game. WAAAGH! I love my ork boyz

Or, or, or! play League of Legends with me. You can be a creature of the void like Vel'Koz, Cho'Gath (my baby), Rek'Sai, or Kai'sa My account name is Ventiine

Spectre, note that not all the defiant fusions here are in fusion seal form (some are permanent fusions on the weapon). Only fusion seals are transferable to a new weapon.

Also Isu, what makes you think you've be fighting more undead in this AP called 'Dead Suns'? Clearly the remainder of the AP will be nothing but fire elementals and Devourer cultists. :>

Btw, as a bit of group polling: What do you guys think of the difficulty of Book 2 overall so far? Just from the GM chair, it seems easy in comparison to Book 1 (especially because there are lots of 1/day encounters). Feels good? Or are you folks up for a bit more challenge?

I honestly have no idea what this AP ends up revolving around, but I haven't forgotten about that Eoxian ambassador and the sealed box, and that just felt like seeding future plot!

This book is easier, but the challenge level is fine. Book 1 is a little too intense imo, probably the result of the writers not knowing what they were doing.

Great, you take it. I'm currently in tank mode with heavy armor that doesn't use all my Dex. I'll be on the lookout, but you could use it more than I could.

I'll just take the tactical dueling sword and one of the two fusion seals.

I thought this last encounter was scary, cos it looked like the front 2 were heavily injured, and if one or other went down, I don't think the squishy ones like Solaria would last long. I also think that we were lucky with the crits on the Shirren.

Not sure what one is allowed to do in a 10 minute rest period? If walking out and getting Ralwaki is considered restful enough, then Solaria will use that as her 10-minute rest period.

Otherwise she will have a 10 minute rest period, after the latest post.

Solaria will take a grenade or two, she has proficiency.
She can't use a longsword ... boo hoo...
If you want her to take the serum of healing so that she can administer to frontline whilst in combat, then she will take them.

Heh, my exposure to 40k was mostly through video games too, specifically the Dawn of War series. That's why I'll always have a soft spot for the Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum/THE WALL OF GUNS. But da boyz are fun too, especially Big Warboss Gorgutz!

As a general rule of thumb, aren't status effects nastier in Starfinder than Pathfinder? There is more to keep track of with the different environments or maybe it just seems like bodies are more at the mercy of the environments? I like Starfinder more than Pathfinder because it seems more streamlined but there are def additional aspects to manage from the obligatory starship (not that I'm complaining!) to having to take traveling more seriously. Some may think combat is easier(?) but I think the other aspects I listed above sorta make up for it. I really enjoy this game.

I've been sick (strep and now a virus) and trying to get all my school stuff done, including collaborating with a school teacher and librarian, so I've been absent. Not an excuse but just letting you know what's going on in my life.

I had forgotten to answer this question given how much trouble I've been getting myself into.

I guess I'll just say that this book has been absolutely BRUTAL! Each combat seems like a life-and-death struggle. We've almost had multiple TPKs. I'm just glad to be alive! ;P

We're just our place in nature! ;)

In all honesty, I'd say we're managing okay. We've had a few close calls, but it feels like we're being honestly challenged. Sydney's right that the status effects are PAINFUL, which honestly I'm of two minds on. On the one hand, it's slowed us down more than once while we try to recover, but on the other hand it gives them a bite they can often lack in other games, where you can just sort of suck it up and power through the game anyway. I actually CARE about being under status effects in this game, and I imagine that was the goal.

This campaign has been a blast!! fun characters, awesome GM.

It seems that each battle requires us using up all our abilities, we do a long rest, and then we fight another combat. So if the battles are meant to be quicker ones to wear us down, they're too hard. But if each one is intended to test our limits, then they're just right. The front liners have done a great job of protecting the squishies, though it seems we have to scrape arc and isu off the pavement after each battle.

I do wish our grenades did more damage and theirs did less...

Man, I feel this so much when I'm playing Technomancers. I think spellcasters in Starfinder just run out of spells WAY too fast, so it feels like you can do one or two fights before you're out of gas. Especially from levels 1 through 3 when you have 4-5 spells max.

I'd say other than the most recent rolling fight heading into the statue, you guys haven't seemed to take too much damage (except for Arc, since his ACs were on the low side for the level).

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

The sniper rifle has a normal 70ft range increment (but you could fire further by taking a penalty to your attack roll), but as a sniper rifle you could also extend its range by taking a move action before firing. For the sniper rifle your shirren pal was using, this changes its range increment to 250ft. You do need sniper weapon proficiency to fire it without the -4 non-proficient penalty though.

Its all in the stat block for tactical shirren eye rifles.

Chaotic Good Human Operative/6

So, I don't really understand the point of Ted's fog. Does it give a bonus to Fort save rolls? Or does it negate having to roll a Fort save against the worm's gaze? And if so, how can people aim and shoot at the worm? Is there a percentage die? Like, irl if I was wearing a blindfold or shooting into a space I couldn't see, my aim would be terrible and I'd probably only hit due to dumb luck. I'm just trying to understand the logistics

Seaweed Leshy Technomancer 1 / Game Master 3 | Maps: (RotRL Handouts) | (RotRL Maps) | (DoF Handouts) | (DoF Maps) | (DA Maps)

I'm not sure where you're getting the idea that there's fog Sydney. Ted created an illusion of a rocky avalanche with Holographic Image. While people believed in it, it blocked their line of sight to the worm so they didn't need to make saves. If they made their saves to disbelieve it, it became transparent to them, so they had to make saves again.

The worm still hasn't made its save against the rocks, despite Isu attacking for two rounds while sitting inside the illusion, so it's been thinking the rocks are attacking it :>
