I have looked at Hero Lab before... I think I would be willing to fork out that kind of money, but the people I mostly play with are young and poor. So I haven't gotten into it. :D PCGen works.

![]() |

I know! A lot of my money flows to my Paizo subscription (I'm DELIBERATELY avoiding reading the Dead Suns books while playing here, though. Most of my info came from the unofficial Player's Guide.) and my Starbucks card. That keeps me going during the week. I drink WAY too many Vanilla Sweet Cream Cold Brews...

Grix Krizvit |

Yeah, I hate how everything is subscription based now, even things that have no right to be. Thankfully, I haven't caved yet for things like the Paizo subs (those are expensive!)

I am a little confused in battle right now, getting chaotic, and I think people are acting out of turn. But am I right in thinking that most of us should be waiting for the next GM post before we attack?

Grix Krizvit |

Yeah, we're still in the surprise round. Enemies get to go before us in the first real round of combat, so its probably best to hold off posting until we know their new locations.

GM Snowheart |

Yup. Thanks for flagging, Isu. My laptop is down and it's been a crazy morning. I'll try to get current posts and the creatures' first full round resolved ASAP but I'm without access to my pdfs so it's a little difficult.

GM Snowheart |

No no. Y'all are fine! That got confusing.
Anyway, we're now in Round 1 and the creatures have gone. Given the... situation that has developed, plans may change. So, everyone make a new post for your first full-round action in Round 1.

GM Snowheart |

Also, try the link for Roll20 again. I could never get it to work before. I just tried something else that hopefully will do it. If not, we just had to enter the URL in our browsers and go.

Solaria Jesari |

Might I make a suggestion, that we add an ooc line to our combat posts which indicate what round we are providing instructions, it means it should make it bit easier.

that is a good idea

GM Snowheart |

Arcalinte, I may have missed it, but I still don't see your action for this round. This is the first full round of combat, and I only have an action from you for the surprise round.

![]() |

I was waiting to see if the bite did something, since I assume I failed the Fortitude save. If not, I'll post another attack (all I can do at this point, really).

Solaria Jesari |

Just wondering if the Akata is an intelligent beast, because if it is and I make the feint bluff check, my allies will have the beast flatfooted (-2 to AC)? It doesn't make any difference to Solaria's actions, as unless she knows the beast is unaffeted by bluff, she will continue to use feint. It would be good to know out of character.

GM Snowheart |

Oooh! Thanks for asking, Solaria!!!
The attacks last round would have dropped him. I'm about to head home but will revise/retcon as soon as I'm able.
Sorry!

Sydney Jordan |

Maybe I'm acting like a spoiled brat, but I was disappointed Sydney didn't get to keep her original action of attacking instead of moving. I'm also confused as to how her combat actions have been treated. Did she move in Round 1 or Round 2 (per the GM's decision)? Is she unconscious or conscious? I feel like she's being botted even though I'm right here and then her actions haven't been explained by the GM :,( Can someone please explain what "actions" Sydney performed in Round 1 and 2 so I can understand. Or link the specific posts? I feel like I missed a post?
With the damage from the Surprise Attack and Round 1 Sydney should still be up with 3/12 hit points... unless there is a ruling I'm missing? Or a damage post I'm missing? I just want to understand what's going on. As you can probably tell from this post, I'm confused lol.

GM Snowheart |

Sydney, I think there were a few points of confusion. First, I forgot to include you in the summary of PCs actions each round. Second, I think you confused the surprise round with round 1, then Round 1 with Round 2. This was because a lot of people started posting their round 1 actions before the surprise round was resolved. Third, I got confused by your posts for Round 1 and whether you were attacking, moving, taking a guarded step or not. Fourth, your posting was kind of defeatist and, I assumed, resigned to death based on a situation on the map that didn't reflect the death of one of the akatas and the opening of space. At that point, given the confusion over the posts made prior to resolution of the surprise round and how dropping that one akata changed the battlefield landscape (and the threat to Sydney's life), and that the attack you posted would have missed yet triggered an AoO, I didn't think you'd mind a free or retconed move action to get to safety. At that point, Grix was able to move up and heal you per spoilered text in this post.
All of which is to say, it was confusing and tends to happen in a group this large until we get into the groove of things. I'm sorry for my part in adding to that and if you felt the free guarded step took away any of your agency over your character.

GM Snowheart |

Sydney, just because the new UI is sometimes a little confusing, I wanted to flag here that I just sent you a PM.
All, if I ever forget to respond to something you've done or include it in a combat round, please yell at me (or maybe just nudge me). I will never ignore you intentionally but I have missed posts or neglected to follow-up and, from my experience as a player, I know how alienating and frustrating that can be. That's never my intent and I'm sorry whenever someone feels that way. I will strive to do better but I am human so, when it inevitably happens again, please let me know and I will do my best to rectify it immediately.

Sydney Jordan |

Thank you for reaching out and following up Snow! <3 That was a fight that seems like it must have been written a little weird too. Assassin squid creatures, the humanity!
If Sydney dies, I'm okay with it as long as it's in a cool cinematic way. Besides (I assume) if one of us dies, we can just re-roll a new character? In my experience - even with SFS, Starfinder is more "dangerous" than Pathfinder.

![]() |

I assume so, but we will do our best to protect you! *determination!*
On an unrelated note, are you all okay with me shifting Arcalinte's theme from Scholar to Solar Disciple? While I do feel like Scholar is a good theme for a Solarian in the Starfinder Society, I won't really be able to put ranks in either Physical or Life Sciences with the build I'm using, so I won't really get much benefit from Scholar's features...the only immediate benefit is that Arc's Perception will get a +1 boost.

Yeah, I'm doing fun stuff too! I'm... uh... let's see... working? And it's unseasonably cold out?
Ah, screw all y'all! Gonna get me some bourbon.

Got a half written RP at work, and now I'm knackered. Will post tomorrow morning. Everyone else have fun doing fun things ... luckyyyyyy...

You in Minnesota too, GM? There's only two seasons here: Winter and Road Construction. Though recently they seem to have blended together...

GM Snowheart |

No, DC. We're threatened with snow tomorrow. It's freaking April. The Cherry blossoms are out. And it may snow.
My sinuses can't take it.
My mother is in Wisconsin, though (outside of Madison) and has told me about the snow. This is why I don't live in the true north anymore. 5 years in Boston and 18+ years in Ohio near Lake Erie was quite enough.

Sydney Jordan |

I'm in Richmond, VA. OMG Snow, you and are are so close! <3 We could meet irl! This is exciting! Everyone else in my games lives in another country or across North America. ...DC, though - how do you stand the traffic? Are you used to it from living in Boston? (I've never been to Boston, but I've been to DC quite a few times.)
Virginia weather has been wonky too but at least we don't have a "road construction" season (lol, unless you live near the highway headed to Virginia Beach)
So Arc, do you prolong your "O" sounds when you talk? I love talking about dialect. (And it's soda, not pop in Minnesota, right?)

Solaria Jesari |

Virgina Beach has a lot to answer for, my son was Made in America, whilst staying at some motel at the aforesaid mention beach ... Spent a lot of time travelling round VA, but didn't quite get down to Richmond. It's a great state, we went round the battlegrounds and stuff, before heading back to DC for the flight home to the UK.
Good times those..

GM Snowheart |

Back in college (I'm about to date myself), MUSHes and MUDs were the online nerd rage but still had very small communities. A wildly successful MU* would have maybe 75 people logged in at *peak* time. One day, I'm futzing around, happen to strike up an OOC conversation with someone... he goes to the same small college in SW Ohio as me. Was just two buildings over. Small worlds. Anyway...
I don't mind DC traffic (mostly). Boston was even more congested and the drivers more consistently aggressive. DC is tricky just because the drivers aren't consistent. Some are aggressive, others timid, some fast, some slow. Folks from all over the country and the world with different driving habits/customs.
And I've lived here long enough I understand the logic of the streets and the circles/roundabouts, which drive out-of-towners nuts. Waze (the app) also helps.

So Arc, do you prolong your "O" sounds when you talk? I love talking about dialect. (And it's soda, not pop in Minnesota, right?)
I don't know if I do, but then I've been immersed in it for most of my life, so what sounds normal to me wouldn't sound the same to someone from another state.
After "soda" vs. "pop," I say "soda," but only because 3 years behind a Panera Bread cash register drilled it into me. I've heard both used by my friends and co-workers.
However, apparently I can do a Canadian accent very well, at least when speaking French (I once ordered some ice cream using French down in Disney World and the French cashier who took my order asked if I was from Quebec)!
I've also got family across the pond too, though not in the UK proper: my brother currently lives in Limerick, Ireland, where he got his Master's in Irish Music Performance.

Sydney Jordan |

I don't know if you guys like rock or miss Flyleaf, but I discovered someone who sounds like Lacey Sturm but without the screaming. LEDGER: Not Dead Yet (YouTube) Good gym music.

Hi GM,
If Isu critted last round, he did 19 points of damage, not 9. I was expecting and hoping for brainsplatter...

GM Snowheart |

Ah! Thanks for saying something. I see now. I just looked at your crit damage line without seeing it was in addition to your regular damage. Yes! That one is splattered! Hmm... will try to massage that in gameplay now.

A case of strep throat has been tearing through my house (first my toddler, then husband) and now me. Will try to keep up but just to explain why things may be slowing down this week.

Keep well and hope all get better at home
