Sven the Mazebreaker |
Sadly Sven has nothing which can bring back the dead...
Kurag Urlot III |
Prayer is a 40’ diameter burst. Those cats weren’t inside that when it was cast.
Dying isn’t new in RPGs. Happens all the time!
That is true but that doesn’t mean I won’t exhaust all options for keeping a companion and player alive.
Ooc are you wanting us to find a way to raise you or are you thinking of going a different character?
DM RichD |
Some options...
You have all saved Trunau so they would be more than happy to cash in all and every favor to have a True Resurrection spell cast and then transport you back here to take care of the Giant army that is threatening their existence.
Torag meets Kiln with a mug of ale and a welcoming smile and tells him that the one thing he hates more than an evil giant is an evil giant with an army. He will tell him that he is more than happy to stay, but he will understand if he goes back and finishes off that 'dang giant an' his army!'
Kiln is also wearing Uskroth's Armor which once per day allows him to bestow the effects of righteous might once per day which increases his size, strength and con. It is reasonable that after almost dying and not being able to free himself from the grapple that Kiln would have activated this function of the armor. I would be willing to hand-wave this as Kiln the character would be really aware of this, but Kiln the player might forget about this.
Kiln Redaxe |
As Kiln made it to -16, even 2 more CON wouldn’t help.
No need to hand wave anything.
I can make a new character, or you guys can go on without me. Either way is fine.
Kurag Urlot III |
True but the righteous might also gives dr 5 which would make a difference.
The next question is do we keep the armor for our new dwarven compatriot that we rescue in the walled defenses
Kiln Redaxe |
Depends on what the GM’s plan would be for introducing a new PC.
I could make a PC with starting cash, or a stripped down PC, hoping to be rescued from the giants that have him captive.
Kiln Redaxe |
A dwarf Bard? A wizard or sorcerer?
Ondek has been AFK for more than a year, so we could maybe use an arcane caster.
GM, can you mark Ondek and Khari as inactive in the campaign please?
Sven the Mazebreaker |
If allowed:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/bard/archetypes/paizo-bard-ar chetypes/dwarven-scholar-bard-archetype/
Dwarven scholar. A wisdom based bard who trades the best hard songs for sharing combat feats. Given the party this feat free would be useful to share:
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/dwarven-hatred-style-combat-sty le/
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/dwarven-seething-combat
https://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/combat-feats/dwarven-fury-combat/
When bard song is active the party gets +2 hit/damage vs orcs and as an immediate action can get +4 AC or +2 hit/damage against anyone who hits us.
For an all dwarf party that’s useful
Kiln Redaxe |
A straight up Bard seems like a solid addition to the group. This group does a lot of straight up "damage" so +2/+2 (and eventually +3/+3) is a great boost for a group with lots of melee and archery attacks.
I don't believe large battles happen in this AP. It's not Kingmaker, or Wrath of the Righteous, otherwise a Bard/Cavalier/Battle Herald even.
Kurag Urlot III |
The arcane boost will be nice as it gives lots of options. Every party can use a bard between the inspire ability or the plethora of skills. Thinking if joining Kurag at range or going melee?
Kiln Redaxe |
Bards don't be wearing heavy armor, you guys do what you want with that stuff.
I don't know what the GM's plan is, maybe insert me as a bound prisoner in a room somewhere, with no gear whatsoever, so I'll pick things up as we go.
I was thinking of an Archer Bard, with things like haste and glitterdust and some other Arcane help. I don't know if someone has a short bow to loan me, but maybe. But with only wearing light armor, I'd expect to get my butt handed to me if I tried to be a front liner against giants as a bard. Heck, Kiln got shredded pretty quickly against a kitty cat, so a Bard would get smoked.
Are there specific spells or skills you want me to cover down on?
Kurag Urlot III |
Haste and apparently raise dead somehow.
I do not have another bow to loan. Hopefully we will find a medium sized bow amongst the gear at the wall near you.
Looks like the only one that could wear the armor is Rask. Any claims Rask or are we burying it with him? Alternative to burying him is to inter his body in a room at the wall and make it seem like he is perpetually guarding the area. Wish we had access to stone shape to make a lasting tribute look nice.
Rask Hammersong |
No claim on the armor.
However Rask could use the Amulet of Natural Armor +2, Ring of Protection +1, and the Belt of Giant Strength +4.
That would up his AC by 3, and up his Strength by 2. He would throw his Belt +2 into the pool.
But I am also OK with burying it all with Kiln.
Kiln Redaxe |
Originally I said only core, but I've played in a few games with you all that I trust you not to go crazy, so if you have an interesting concept, go with it...
Don’t be saying all that! You’ll end up with me playing a Theurge, or some such silliness.
Kiln Redaxe |
apparently raise dead somehow
Wish we had access to stone shape to make a lasting tribute look nice.
Sven should be able to handle either of those for you!
Sven the Mazebreaker |
GM allowed spontaneous casting to save my sanity. No raise dead yet but it is on my list of spells to get.
Kiln Redaxe |
Of course, if you guys don't survive this fight, we may need to roll up an all-elf group to come and finish the job!
So, do you want the Bard? Or I was considering an Arcane Trickster (Wizard-Rogue), if the GM will permit me to use Accomplished Sneak Attacker, or, ummm, I have a concept for an Arcane Trickster using a Faerie Dragon (Sorcerer-Rogue)!!!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
OK all. Think about what the old crone said and think about what you have seen and done.
The first was Mymrith the Maker, priestess of Fandarra, who prepared fallen warriors for the afterlife by anointing their bodies with sacred clay. She lined the forge with the clay to contain the fire within.
The second was Aduromi, the Priestess of Crystals, whose veins ran hot with molten metal and who could temper steel to a hardness that would cut diamonds. She brought with her the secrets of the fire geodes, which once ignited would burn for a century.
The third was Jogrothir the Hunter, guardian of the sacred horn Drakesbane, which he used to call the ancient drakes native to the surrounding peaks. Jogrothir brought the forge to life, for he alone was able to capture the dragon’s breath, the only flame hot enough to ignite the fire geodes.
The last was Rosag, the Preserver of the Forge. A great priestess of Minderhal, Rosag held the secrets of water—both its ability to temper metal as well as its capacity to quench the sacred flames. She performed the Blessing of Rosag, the final incantation that stoked the fires and sanctified the forge.
Only by following in the footsteps of the blessed ancients, by repeating those acts which have been undone, shall the fires of Minderhal’s Forge once again blossom.

Indeed we have visited all of the regions and collected certain things from each that would allow us to retore the forge. The question is... should we based on our faith in our dwarven gods? Personally I want to see what happens but from a character standpoint I am ambivalent.
Sven the Mazebreaker |
Seconding that. It's not a question of "can we do it?" It's a question of "should we do it?" Would good Toragian dwarves light a forge to a Giant's God?
DM RichD |
In reading the boards, you all are not the only ones in a quandary with what to do with the forge. Some parties have not relit it, some have relit it, some have planned to see if the Cathedral/forge could be occupied once the giants are cleared out-but considering these are giant lands, how successful an occupying force could be is another question - especially with a magical forge.
Bottom line is, there is no right answer and if you re-light or don't re-light the forge will not affect this AP or the overall AP.
My guess is the forge is there to provoke this type of role-playing and moral ambiguity.
