Senja Kala |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (10) + 11 = 21
Carbide – defenses, special attacks, other stuff, if you’re sharing information.
Senja rolls his eyes at the others, though it’s hard to tell with the black orbs he sees the world through. ”Uh, guys? It’s a water elemental… He then hurls a small blob of shadow at the thing, which expands and completely covers it for an instant before vanishing!
Misfortune hex, DC 15 Will save.
DM Carbide |
Senja, you get all elemental traits (immunity to bleed, sleep, poison, stunning, crits, precision damage, and flanking), plus dispelling fire, whirlpool formation, and water mastery.

Eva/Elemental
Kragnor
It fails to resist Senja's hex. Despite the hex affecting it, though, it swims up towards Kali and hits her with a massive watery fist for 10 HP.
Eva and Kragnor can act.
Slam to Kali, incl. water mastery: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 7 + 1 = 27
Reroll slam to Kali, incl. water mastery: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 7 + 1 = 22
Slam damage, incl. water mastery: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Reroll slam damage, incl. water mastery: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Kragnor raises his hammer and swings hard at the water monster!
Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 2 = 8
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 6 = 22
After missing badly, he sidles into the corner of the room, making way for his companions.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Did Asvald move in and attack it? If there's still room for Eva...
Eva hurries forward and swings her sword at the thing! Move in, boop with sord.
Boop: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Damage?: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
DM Carbide |
Asvald can't reach it and attack this round--one diagonal square in difficult terrain is 15', and so he can only move one square after that.
DM Carbide |
Rearranging the round....
Kragnor and Eva both miss the elemental.

Senja, Kali--over to you! Asvald, I assume you'll close and attack.
Elemental: AC 17 T 11 FF 16
Kali Starr |
With an angry look, Kali drops her bow, draws her wakizashi, and tries to slice into the anthropomorphic water.
Wakizashi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Senja Kala |
Senja begins a quiet - though slightly mad - laugh, enjoying the feeling of his shadowy hex afflicting the creature attacking them. He call up a handful of shadowy dust and lifts if before his face, blowing hard once and sending it flying toward the elemental's eyes - or where they would be if it had eyes.
Move action to cackle to maintain Misfortune, standard action to use Evil Eye for -2 to hit, DC 15 Will save.
DM Carbide |
The elemental resists Senja's evil eye, but both Kali and Asvald hit it. It swipes ineffectually at Asvald as he moves up, then hits Kali again for 10 HP. I also forgot to include its water mastery on the last attack, so take another point.
Round 3:

Everyone can act!
Slam AoO to Asvald: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 7 + 1 = 26
Slam AoO to Asvald: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 7 + 1 = 16

Slam damage: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 1 = 13
Elemental: AC 17 T 11 FF 16 -13 HP
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Kragnor sloshes through the water and swings his hammer at the creature.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 2 = 20
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 6 = 19
DM Carbide |
Kragnor gets out from behind everyone else and attacks, his hammer blow dispersing the creature back into the water from which it came.
Out of combat!
Senja Kala |
For the record, Misfortune should have made it make 2 saves vs Evil Eye and take the lower result. So it might have missed Kali, as a -2 to attack would have put its best roll below her AC. Just sayin'.
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
"Take that, puddle!" Kragnor roars as the elemental disappears.
DM Carbide |
Thanks for the reminder--forgot about rerolling the save, and I'd been so good about remembering it for the attack and damage rolls. She still takes the damage, unfortunately.
Reroll save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Kali Starr |
"That could've gone better for me..." Kali observes with a groan as she uses her wand of Infernal Healing, waits a minute, then uses it again.
46 charges left
Asvald Bjornson |
”That’s some fierce water”, Asvald observes.
After Kali’s had a couple minutes to mend, he gestures forward with his sword. ”Onward then?”
DM Carbide |
There's nothing else apparent in the room.
You can continue south, or take the hallway east and south. (Or go back and fight the crab swarm, if you're feeling ambitious.) Where to?
DM Carbide |
As you wade into the room, you notice the current picking up. From the sound, you seem to be at the top of a short waterfall, caused by the water spilling over the rubble wall in front of you and down some distance--it's hard to tell exactly how far until you get up to the wall. Once you're next to the wall, though, the current is strong enough to knock you over unless you make a DC 5 Acrobatics check. You can also see a passage to the east.
Asvald Bjornson |
"That way", Asvald suggests while jabbing his sword to the east. "I'd rather not go swimming quite yet."
Kali Starr |
Awww, it would have been fun to ride down the waterfall. Best to play it cool though.
"Yeah, totally, let's do that." The kitsune nonchalantly agrees with Asvald and Senja.
DM Carbide |
The narrow hallway to the east soon opens into a large room, with a number of interesting features. In the alcoves to the north, and elsewhere in the room, you see sturdy tables that stand about a foot above the water level. Some are stacked with crates, others with dry bedding. In the middle of the north wall, between the two alcoves, is a half-submerged shimmering area about a foot across, which occasionally emits spurts of water. However, your attention is immediately drawn to the mound of water at the far end of the room; it resembles the elemental you just fought, but it is much larger.
Round 1:

Elemental
Eva
Everyone except Eva can act!
Eva Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Kali Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Kragnor Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Senja Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Elemental Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Senja Kala |
Senja steps to his right to get a better view of the massive mound of water that has appeared. He closes his right hand, then quickly opens it, revealing a small pile of black dust that glitters like mica. Senja points at the elemental and the pile of dust rises off his hand and darts toward the water-monster, swirling wildly around it!
Glitterdust at the thing, DC 18 Will save or be blinded. And it's sparkly!
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Kragnor moves feet into the room, brandishing his hammer. "Well, come on big puddle!" He bellows, as he readies to attack when the thing nears him.
Can't edit map atm. Assuming difficult terrain?
Readied Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 8 - 2 = 17
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 6 = 17
Asvald Bjornson |
Asvald begins a rousing chant and brandishes his sword heroically. "Get in there and smash that puddle to bits!"
Oratory: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Inspire rage and +2 to unarmed attack rolls.
Kali Starr |
Kali draws her shortbow then readies an attack to fire an arrow when the creature appears in her line of sight.
Shortbow - Cover: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
DM Carbide |
Senja's spell covers the elemental, rendering it unable to see! (Not sure how that works when it doesn't really have eyes, but there it is.) Asvald starts his rousing song. Kali prepares to launch an arrow, and Kragnor prepares to chop at it when it gets closer.
Round 2 (rearranged; ongoing):

I may be doing this wrong; this particular ability is not exactly clear to me.
Blinded, the elemental collapses into a glowing patch of water. It's calm for a split second, then the entire area begins to swirl violently, forming a massive whirlpool that slides forward and runs into Kragnor! The dwarf takes his attack as the vortex nears him, but doesn't seem to have any effect on it. Kali's arrow sails over it.
Kragnor, DC 19 Reflex save or take 10 HP; a second DC 19 Reflex save or be caught in the whirlpool.
Slam: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Senja Kala |
Senja raises a hand to his cheek and pulls down one lower eyelid, exposing the orb of his dark eye. With the other hand he makes a 'horns' symbol, then mutters, "Malocchio, malocchio, malocchio!
Evil Eye for -2 to saves for 7 rounds, DC 15 Will save to reduce this to 1 round.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Eva wades into the room past the creature and draws her crossbow, grabbing a bolt and fitting it into the mechanism. Move + draw crossbow, drop sword, load crossbow.
Kali Starr |
Kali casts Shocking Grasp, holds the charge, and quickly makes her way into the room. She then attempts to touch the whirlpool of unnatural water while avoiding poor Kragnor.
Shocking Grasp touch attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Reflex 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Reflex 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Kragnor gets pummeled by the vortex, but manages to jump out of the way.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 - 2 = 9
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 6 = 17
He then makes a hasty swing, missing the creature.
Asvald Bjornson |
Asvald makes a threatening gesture at the swirling waters. "You're all washed up!"
Intimdate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
DM Carbide |
Asvald, threatening gestures don't do much when it's blinded. You sound dangerous, though.
Senja, your hex has minimal effect, and despite its temporary effect enough of the glitter washes away from it that it can see again. Kragnor and Kali miss it, while Asvald's threats seem to cause it to hesitate. Eva, are you able to move normally in the water? It's nominally difficult terrain, and I don't think you can take diagonal moves through doors or past creatures.

The elemental moves up and envelops Kali and Kragnor in the whirlpool formed from its substance. Kragnor--DC 19 Reflex or take 6 HP; Kali, DC 19 Reflex or 7 HP. Both of you, another DC 19 Reflex save or caught in the vortex.
DC 18 Will save vs. glitterdust: 1d20 ⇒ 18
Slam damage to Kragnor: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Slam damage to Kali: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
AC 18 T 12 FF 15
DM Carbide |
You can't move diagonally around a corner, though, and I think that puts you up to 45' moved.
DM Carbide |
Ah--got it. For some reason I thought you were starting from further back, and one of the downsides of using Google Drive is an inability to see what the board looked like before a move.
Kali Starr |
Reflex 1: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Reflex 2: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Kali tries to discharge her electric spell into the elemental, despite being caught in the whirlpool of water.
Touch Attack - Whirlwind/Vortex penalties: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Damage: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) = 15
DM Carbide |
Actually, getting back to Eva's move for a minute--let me walk through this. Each square you move vertically or horizontally in difficult terrain is 10' of movement, and each diagonal square is 15' of movement. So two squares up and one square over is 30 feet, and the diagonal move is another fifteen. I still get a total of 45' moved.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Gah, you're right due to the silly diagonal rule. I've moved myself back 5' (so the last 5' would have been left instead of left-up).
Senja Kala |
”Well, that didn’t work,” Senja mutters, ”let’s see if this does. He joins his hands together, then pulls them apart, fingers extended, drawing out a very long ribbon of shadow between them. He then hurls the ribbon at the water elemental, wrapping it around and around the massive creature, hoping to trip it up.
Misfortune hex, DC 15 Will save
Kragnor Stonebreaker |
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Kragnor once again gets pummeled, and once again avoids being sucked inot the vortex.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 1 = 15
Damage: 1d12 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 3 = 15
He once again swings and misses.
Eva Baldursdóttir |
Eva unloads her crossbow into the thing and then places another bolt into the groove, preparing to fire again.
Pew (in melee): 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 - 4 = 16
