The new themes are great! I think that the Divine Champion theme will be very popular with those who were craving a paladin in Starfinder.

I really like the Steward archetype; trying to figure out if this true neutral, out-for-himself, acquisitive Android can talk himself into joining the stewards when he levels up.

GM Hmm |

Boss - Divine Champion is an archetype :P
D’oh! Why so it is!

I'm guessing it will be like retraining in PFS. Not that we have retraining rules yet..

GM Hmm |

We do too! There are mnemonic editors right in core.
If you use a mnemonic editor, you can undo 2 character levels' worth of decisions about which class levels you took, which feats you selected, how you applied any level-based increases to ability scores, how you assigned new skill ranks, and so on. All decisions you made as a result of advancing over the previous 2 character levels you gained are undone. You then make new selections, including new class levels, feats, skills, and the like, as if you had regained the 2 missing character levels. Go through the normal process of advancing your character through each of these 2 levels.
Note: They only work for the most recent two levels, so if you erase a theme, you have to be level 3 or under. To afford this, you can spend 4x MK of the editor in fame to get it.
I don’t see another way to retrain themes, alas, but maybe they’ll come up with something.

I think that only works for level 2 or less. As a level 3 I could only retrain the choices I made when leveling to level 2 and 3. Unless we could then use the free lvl 1 rebuild again.... (So hoping this is true because I think my lvl 3 solarion would be great as a Divine Champion.)
Edit: duh! It just dawned on me that the first archetype ability is gained at lvl 2. So with a mnemonic editor a lvl 3 character can enter an archetype retroactively! Counting down the hours...

Baxder |

I take it these new themes are in Pact Worlds? I haven't looked at the PDF yet...
On a more pbp related note, I'd like to see about getting into it here. I'm a former RPG Crossing player, and most of the ins and outs of that experience look to be the same here. The one thing I don't see anywhere is character sheet management. How does that work? Do people create characters in threads, or just submit characters already built?

![]() |

Welcome, Baxder!
My name is Charli Poshkettle, and I am Hmm’s main Starfinder character. If you click on my avatar name, you can see my entire character sheet. The characters that we use are Starfinder Society characters that we create through play, starting at level one. The character you create can play SFS adventures here, live, or anywhere that SFS is played. Only one game at a time per character, so if you commit a character to a PBP game, she’s there for the duration!
Can we answer any questions you might have?
Hmm

That is indeed common practice Baxder. As for a template, here is what I use: link feel free to copy and adjust to what you think works best for you.
As for alias: there is no need to create an additional alias if you have registered your character for SFS. Every character that is registered has an alias attached to it.

GM Hmm |

The pregens folder also has character templates in it. You can find them in the PBP GM Kit linked in my header.
Hmm

Baxder |

Thanks, guys; that's all awesome.
I see the alias now for the SFS character I've played IRL. Can I play it here at the current level? Or does "The characters that we use are Starfinder Society characters that we create through play, starting at level one" mean that I'd have to start a new one at level one?
That brings me back to the question of character creation. How is that handled? Are characters submitted at application, or do you wait for GM direction for stuff like roll vs. buy stats, etc? Or is that covered by society rules I've just missed?
Thanks for all the help and patience. I'm pretty new to Society play.

GM Hmm |

Okay, I just looked at Allea Corrinae’s sessions. (It’s a VC super-power.) From them, I determine your character is Level Two. You don’t have to start a brand new character. If you would like to play her here, that’s fine.
SFS characters are portable. You can play them at GenCon, GaryCon, online or at your friendly local game store. Charli has played in Starfinder games both in-person and here in PBP. Just one game at a time per character!
As for how characters apply — that varies. Some recruitment is first come, first served, others are by lottery or a recruitment thread. In general, the player is accepted, and then says what character they are bringing.
Have you read the SFS roleplaying guild guide yet?
Hmm

I know I have a level 1 solarion I will be keeping under level 2 in order to use the first level rebuild for this...
Yes same for me. My operative will get his third xp from his Outpost game and will go on hiatus until PW is added to Additional Resources. Several of the new themes are great for him which is good because he's currently themeless.

Herolab Online now is able to output statblocks to BB Code for the forums!

Is this for Starfinder? Oh, I may succomb to the subscription then. I've been toughing it out doing all my character generation manually.
(Truth to tell, it's probably been good for me to do that.)

Yes it is for Starfinder.

DM Kludde |

You can actually try it out for free, with some restrictions

Finally flipping though Pact Worlds. More ideas for my Fromian Xenodruid.

Good news, everyone! We've got ourselves an interactive special to look forward to!

vlaovich88 |

Hey, I posted this elsewhere but I believe it would be more likely to see an answer here. With the announcement of the new special for starfinder and the schedule for when it gets off of being exclusive, I was hoping we could set up an online version of special like we do for pathfinder. I have no clue how we would go about starting to plan that, but I think it would be a good idea and am willing to help with any organization or that kind of work necessary to do this.

PBP Gameday VII will be from August 13, 2018-November 5th, 2018
Includes #9-00 Assault on Absalom Multi Table Special
But we might be able to ask for a SFS special as well. That may however push the organisation a little far.
The biggest problem may be GMs where there is currently a limit of only GMing one multi table special at a time in PBP. This is to avoid burn out and promote quality play, so I suspect they might not be willing to stretch this to run a SFS one at the same time as a PFS one.
That said, there are often more GMs than tables so that might not be an issue. I'd ask Hmm.
Details on the limits are here

vlaovich88 |

I understand the limits and they make sense. I know I am willing to step up and be a GM for starfinder if it helps us get the special off the ground.
I was mostly just throwing the idea out there to get the conversation started. I know its hard for some people to make it to conventions so getting this going would allow those who are pbp players to keep up with the story.

I love the idea of playing in a SFS multiplayer special, or possibly even GMing it.
I'm just a natural black hatter who doesn't always manage to take it off in time. Decisions, decisions.

A SPECIAL RECRUITMENT
So... Many of you know that we’re seeking a replacement PFS Overseer for Granta after the second session of 8-99B concludes.
Given that there will also be a Starfinder multi-table special, I’m also interested in recruiting a different person to be a Starfinder Specials Overseer. Interested candidates need to be organized, responsive and good communicators. They need to be able to post across three or four different forums and work well with our VO team.
If you think this could be you, send me a PM.
Hmm
PS Aerondor is awesome and correct about our desire not to sacrifice quality GMing or overload GM bandwidth. If we do this, we’ll likely be having GMs choose which special they’re going to do as a GM, but be able to play in both.

Aww shucks.
Question time. I'm pretty sure I have seen somewhere that you don't need to use Pregens any more with Into the Unknown, but I can't find where that was said.
Help! Please?

DebugAMP |

I believe you never needed to use pregens for into the unknown.
WRT the Starfinder Special, will it be run concurrently with Assault on Absalom or will they be run back to back in a slot 1 / slot 2 of the 'PbP GameDay' arrangement?

kuey |

CHARACTERS
Each player must use one of the 1st-level Starfinder Society pregenerated characters, which are available at paizo.com/StarfinderSociety/GMResources, or a 1st-level character of the player’s own creation, using the rules set forth in the Starfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide.

They will likely run concurrently, however we have not decided on that yet. This is also something we want to discuss with the overseers.
If they are run back to back my current stance is that I do not want any GM to run both. Running a play by post special is a tough job, which takes a significant commitment. We do not want our GMs to burn out in the middle of the second special.

![]() |

I know my Pathfinder special fuel tank is on E. After something like 30 of them, I'm itching to do the same for Starfinder.

GM Mjolbeard |

I'd also be willing to GM for the special unless there's restrictions on how many stars you have to have. I'm still working on my first in both PFS and SFS.

![]() |

When you play a scenario with a level 1 pregen, can you apply the credit to a character with exactly 3 xp? Ie has not yet played at level 2? I know the rule is that you must apply credit from a level 1 pregen to a level 1 character but what exactly qualifies as a level 1?
I’m interested in changing the themes of both of my SFS characters to Pact Worlds themes so I don’t want to play them again (at what will be level 2 for the first time and essentially lock them down) until PW has been added to Additoinal Resources.

![]() |

My understanding is that at 3xp you are level 2, so you can't give them the chronicle sheet.
You can still rebuild them at that stage as they have not yet played at level 2, but they are level 2.

I'm hoping to run it 'live' at a con in Sept/Oct.
I think they should spice Starship combat up a bit, every now and then give the party half a dozen single person fighter ships - put them up against other light ships. Make it a proper space combat. Give the FOUR ace pilots at the table a chance.

![]() |

Agreed. That would certainly make it much more a multitable special if there were multiple good guys. Design wise however not everyone takes pilot skill, so I can see why they don't want to force everyone into a fighter.
