I may have intermittent time on the boards this weekend.

Given Dorick's current paucity of ranks in Perception and Survival, it may be best that he just aid others in future, if in company!

If I'm going to be playing Mabel as well as Valentina... can I make an alias for her? Would that be annoying?

No, I think that's a good idea. A lot of people do that for familiars and animal companions, it certainly makes sense for a human ally.

To be clear, Kalig was threatening them if they came back. She wants to let them go. She wanted to scare them into not targeting the caravan again.

The varying attitudes towards the thieves are already making for very lively talk!

Dorick will to see how that trio react, especially whether they stop trying to take that sack of potatoes.

Snooping around the player's campaigns tab, he's still posting in other games as of yesterday. Sometimes new posts stop showing up and someone doesn't realize it. GMs, would a PM be in order?

It happens. I missed days of one campaign because I didn't realise the gameplay thread was active.

I sent a message to Mia to check in.

Would it be reasonable to assume that Dorick hears about the foraging plans on his walk around the camp?

Certainly. Dorick would probably overhear as he walks through the camp, seeing if anyone is having trouble.

I'm sorry, Fendir. Sometimes I click spoilers out of curiosity (no intent to metagame), and then I forgot your message was originally in a spoiler and should have left it alone. By way of explanation--not excuse--in some games I've played in spoilers are used as much to keep the screen tidy as anything (e.g., to hide OOC commentary) or to be clear who should be tracking what information, but no one cares if you click on them, provided no one abuses the information within. PMs are used of course for actually private messages. As a PBP GM I don't care if players click my spoilers as long as they don't metagame (anything I don't want people to see I don't post, period).

Obviously you DO care, and this game is not "most other games I play in" and I definitely should have not presumed. I'm sorry for crossing your boundaries, and I'll be more attentive to avoiding spoilers.

For whatever it's worth, I was merely trying to be helpful. That doesn't make it okay that I clicked your spoiler, but I hope you at least see no harm was intended. Still, I won't do it again, and I am sorry.

(As an FYI any of you are welcome to read any spoilers I create as long as you don't use the info to metagame/presume a PC has that information if they wouldn't already.)

No worries. It's just one of my pet peeves when it comes to forum games.

For my part, I'll try to remember to just send our GM PMs with stuff instead of just using spoilers.

Well, reactions to events are good too.

Hi, everyone, my apologies for my recent delays. Taxes and family illnesses - two guarantees in life, I suppose.

Regarding the question of what to do with those who are accompanying you on your journey, particularly Fendir's tribe, there are a few categories that I'm envisioning:

1) Hirelings - You are paying this individual a daily wage to do what they do for you. This is for shorter term contracts, "I need a bodyguard at this event," or "I need you to move my things from one house to another." Whatever this individual does, their actions won't involve handing money or capital over to you (That's a role that Teams will play). If they help you play bandit and capture a caravan, they'll expect a cut.

- We could say that family members fall into this category, except that you don't pay them, and whatever choices they make about their home economy pursuits generate income that they keep for themselves.

Hirelings can be advanced along the lines of the Militia System that GM Vayelan mentioned earlier. After significant events, a hireling or family member may advance in level. Otherwise, if you want to provide a customized advancement, we'll need to talk about either A) finding you a different hireling, or B) coming up with a variation on the Retraining rules from Ultimate Campaign to figure out other training options.

2) Teams - You have invested heavily in bringing this group into your personal orbit, and they are committed to helping you achieve your goals (mostly economic ones). While certain militant teams can accompany you out on an adventure (or, as is our current case, Fendir's tribe here on the caravan), most teams will work for you within the confines of a settlement and provide income for you according to the rules laid out in Ultimate Campaign.

You can change the room or team into the listed upgrade by spending the difference in both capital and time between the original and the new one. For example, Soldier can be upgraded to Elite Soldiers:

Create Soldiers (1st-level warriors, each with scale mail, a longsword, a heavy wooden shield, and javelins):
- 3 Goods, 2 Influence, 5 Labor (220 gp); Time 2 days

Create Elite Soldiers (3rd-level warriors, each wearing a chain shirt or banded mail and using a guisarme, a halberd, or a heavy steel shield and a shortspear):
- 5 Goods, 3 Influence, 7 Labor (330 gp); Time 5 days

Total to Upgrade between the two teams: 2 Goods, 1 Influence, 2 Labor (110 gp); Time 3 days

Your further investment in them gets them more training and better equipment. It can certainly be worth it! So, feel free to ask away about what's going on or coming up with those NPCs that are accompanying you, I'll be happy to try and help answer.

Male Human Cavalier (Order of the Lion) 4, HP 40/40, F: +6, R: +2, W: -1, Init: +1, Per: -2, Sense Motive: 0 (-2 if challenged), AC: Dorick 18, Caragus 19

@GM Cyrioul: I hope matters have eased up by now.

On the post, I'm fine with having a few different options for hirelings e.t.c.

Actually, could we have a document with the existing people marked off in it? It's a little tricky to keep track of who's who with so many NPCs, named or otherwise.

Thanks, Dorick.

We do have a document for our reference there. We'll talk about putting a sheet together with names (and roles?) to help with the tracking.

Alternately, if any of y'all have started doing this yourselves, go ahead and send us the link and we'll put it up at the top.

Kalig's quick to judge and not naturally trusting--all backed by a marvelous Charisma of 8! If I have her keyed up too high let me know and I'll tone her down. I'm not trying to pick on Valentina, she's just providing good fodder for dialogue. :)

female human rogue 2 | hp 18/18, AC 16, touch 13 FF 13 | CMD 14 | Fort +1, Ref +6, Will +0 | Perception +5, Init +3

Don't worry, I'm not too easily offended :) I'm trying to play Valentina as sort of a "woke" college student, so she's gonna claim moral high ground and intellectual superiority sometimes.

Also, her family was just executed by some small-minded a@+!*~@s, so she's on the lookout for that.

Hopefully we'll get along after we have to UNITE to handle bigger threats (probably).

I can get that. Dorick has different reasons for arguing his points. He's been burned badly by liars in the past, and this expedition was his lifeline from certain death in Galt. So if he perceives a threat to it, yeah...he isn't going to keep quiet.

If Dorick had a higher wisdom, he'd likely have spotted by now that continuing this conversation is unlikely to be fruitful. ;)

And hopefully we'll all gel together against real threats!

Hello, all. Regrettably and respectfully, I have decided to withdraw from the game. I have had troubles seeing a usefulness/purpose for Lena among the many PCs and their entourage and unfortunately this has affected my eagerness to play. Free time is scarce as my RL responsibilities keep growing; so I think this decision is for the best for myself and the group (especially since it's still early days in game). I sincerely thank both GMs for giving me the opportunity to play and I wish you all happy gaming. May the new settlement prosper! :)

Kind Regards,
Lena.

GMs:
Can you please inactivate Lena from the game? I appreciate your help and effort. :)

That's understandable Lena. Thank you for the update and good luck.

I'm sorry to see you go, Lena. Thank you for playing with us, even if only for a little while. We'll keep your character with the caravan and the settlement, and if you should want to return, you'll certainly be welcome.

I've added a link to the top of the campaign page to help keep track of NPCs with the caravan. It's a work in progress and will be updated as we go along.

I think Dorick, while willing to risk himself, does not see enough benefit in the endeavour to push for others to do likewise.

And a fine sentiment!

Posting this to all my games: Sorry for the lack of posting. For the second time this year, I got the flu, and the internet is out at my house right now (where it has been for the last two days).
