Beyond the rim... there dwells madness -- Moff Rimmer DMs the Planes

Game Master Moff Rimmer

Something is happening that threatens the existence of the planes themselves. Our heroes have been chosen and thrown into things to set things right -- are they up for the challenge?

Hmmm. How about if I do an ooc comment in thread where I might say something like -- waiting for E. and Lanwin to catch up -- and if you are caught up but don't really have anything to add, just do an ooc stating that you're good or something similar. Would that help?

I don't know, Uri. It scares me that you are in my head right now.

Surprising as it may be to some, the depth of my thought process and detached observation is greater than the sum of the typical rule 34 tangents I predictably get myself involved (or others freely associate me to as a punch line).

;-)

Spoiler:
Reminds me of a time when I was just starting to post and I put Mairk in a tail-spin because I made an oblique reference to mysterions and he was curious about my professional / academic pedigree as if I possessed one. I suspect I either disappointed him that I was in banking or I impressed him by the depth of my readings that's rarely found outside his academic circles. I've yet to come to a conclusion. Ha!

Think Yoda when when Luke first encountered him in TESB and then what he discovered as they built their relationship. For most people, I tend to remain at that initial encounter stage for whatever reason. :) Anywho .... enough about my self-profiling ...

Moff Rimmer wrote:

I hate railroading people. I really, really do. So I try to have a fairly flexible game and try and give people a fair number of options. For example, every one of the options you had in Sigil had different information, but they all could have easily led you to the same point. Depending on who you asked first, what questions you asked, and so on. Maybe I didn't think things through to its end at the beginning, but there is a reason you were called for this, there is a goal in mind, there is a focus, and there will be things that will help to guide you. I just want it to be plausible and not forced. (While keeping in mind that you were just in an impossible city.) I guess that I could have had the big magical being appear to you and tell you what is going on, but I just don't like to run things that way. I'll see if I can give more clues and fewer options in the future.

One thing I would like to say, though -- this is your game as well. Ask questions. If you see something or think that some other direction might be fun, bring it up. I can make just about anything work. I really don't want this to be railroady. I have lots of my own ideas, but that doesn't mean that you can't have your creative juices flowing too.

Railroading, as of late, tends to be used as an epithet; I consider it to be unfair at times. Sometimes it is a necessary plot device in order to get things moving to the next stage when there's an impasse. The trick is to make the PCs believe they chose the correct path from the get-go. Unfortunately, it is much more difficult to pull off effectively in a pbp format (as I believe CH alluded) as the actions are preserved in a static fashion to refer back to versus in a live setting when accurate memory of what transpired can be glossed a bit depending on the (in)accuracy of the memory of everyone participating.

Growing pains. We'll get there with mutual cooperation and participation. To use a phrase that's loaded for a guy with a lack of a belief system ... I have faith ... ;-)

I'm all for seeing with anticipation your document to streamline the actions taken, so I can suspend the in-play postings for several days for the sake of deferment and streamlining.

Thanks for taking upon the effort.

Given ooc denotes out-of-character as I suspect it was created exactly as the definition describes by giving that text a different color to differentiate the ic vs ooc dialogue, I support this as an aid.

Just FYI -- I'm going to be playing "Mr. Mom" for the next four days. So I'm not sure how much I'll be able to post during that time. I will be checking in -- just not as much as normal. Also, it looks like the PMG will be doing some pretty big "clicking" on Saturday -- I guess just don't be surprised by a lack of posting.

I'll try and take some of this time to focus on the "rewrite".

I think that at least Treppa has enough information to take you to the next bit...

My first choice would be for Pinna to perform the seductive dance of the ruffled feathers where she emulates a male peacock to distract her potential mate with shinies; but failing that, I believe Moff has indicated that he has a means to tie-in a segue and is working on potential recruits to step-in and will wrap it in post to keep the continuity going.

Yep. I'll write him out of the story so that plot-wise, it makes at least a little sense. I'll also leave it open enough so that if he changes his mind, it won't be too difficult to bring him back.

I really don't like having players play characters (long-term) that are not theirs. I have asked around and it looks like we have two new players -- more on that later.

I'm kind of waiting on Treppa to guide the group through the path. "Woozy"?

I'm being drafted to kill dreaded "jawa-ewoks" in Star Wars Lego.

I'm imagining that E would feel weird being on Mechanus. So, yes, "woozy".

What's "BFG" mean? My 1337-speak seems to be a little lacking.

Spoiler:
I didn't really want to, but at the same time, it does kind of make sense. He's trying to get across that everything will be affected -- including your little world. Nothing is immune.

He also doesn't want you to leave or abandon this because you (Vassago) -- probably more than most of the others -- have a good idea just how big this truly is.

But ... no pressure...

I figured a timing to respond to him. =)

I'm amusing myself to a degree as you know Vassago is trying to address Forcefyre with a sense of prestige and exhortation, but you can also get the feeling that he's taunting him.

That said, I reckon the dragon can flick him across the room like an insect. :P

As a footnote, for the record my assumption was incorrect. I was not aware that one of the two would be Pat. But it works out well as this type of campaign is practically Pat's bread and butter.

Now let's see who else is going to be dancing the Sigil Two-Step...

Ha. A lot. Many around those planes will not have keys. I still may have you have adventures in some of those planes regardless of whether or not there is a "key". But you've also got all the elemental planes which could include anything like the para- and quasi- planes. You've also got Astral, Ethereal, Shadow, Positive, Negative, and a few other non-standard planes I might throw in. So, like I said, we'll see how it goes.

The answer to the question is that there is a fixed number -- I'm just not sure what that number is and I don't want to lock myself into something that I may need/want to change later.
