Beyond the rim... there dwells madness -- Moff Rimmer DMs the Planes

Game Master Moff Rimmer

Something is happening that threatens the existence of the planes themselves. Our heroes have been chosen and thrown into things to set things right -- are they up for the challenge?

Ok all. Trying to get a feeling for when people are ready to move on. It'll be time to break out the virtual dice soon, so I want to make sure that we're done with where we are before moving on...

Check here, though I have some attack stat work to do with the new bracers, but that's nothing. I was uncertain from dialog - can the divines recharge here?

That's the impression I got. I was going to use the extra day to heal back naturally before continuing on. We need to get that first key, but who knows what plane we'll end up next.

Yes, the divines can "recharge" here.

I'll wait for CH to let me know that he knows what spells he's prepared next. I think that he's pretty much the only one I really need to worry about. (And I think he also has the most going on this weekend.)

Feel free (please) keep posting a comment here and there in-game. I enjoy the dialogue and I think it will help the new-comers a little bit to get to know the group.

Today will be a little hectic for me to post. It's VEISHEA here in Ames for ISU. Big college drinking festival masked by a Display of all things Iowa State University. That and a buddy of mine is in town on a little vacation from his internship out in Co. Springs. I will try to be here when I can though.

Almost forgot to prepare spells! Okay, updated. Hopefully I have less that I will regret preparing this time around.

I'll be out for the evening and will likely be quiet a bit trying to finish up two papers tomorrow and prepping a third one for Wednesday. Oy!

I believe we can leave in an hour, not after 'dawn,' whenever that is. Divine casters can prepare as soon as they are able to after their normal prep time. So we don't have to rest, we just have to give them an hour, now that they are in tune with the divine.

You ever do so much physical labor that you are essentially brain dead? That was kind of how I felt last night.

I think I got a little too much -- not sure the term -- sun poisoning (?) yesterday. While I was working, I didn't think I was doing too much. I haven't felt like this in a long time.

I'm going to be busy at work today, but I'll try and post something here in a minute to get things moving a little again...

My wife was worried I was having a heart attack when I was helping out with my daughter's Girl Scout project. :)

Sun poisoning sucks. When I was 14, I burned myself on top of a fresh sunburn. I was pretty much out of commission for 3 days.

Spoiler:
Didn't do a Bluff check because it didn't seem called for. She knew about the rules and regs thing after the talk with the Blue Corner modron and the librarian. She was actually trying to call *their* bluff, not believing that there is such a law and that they have been sent to stop the party. She didn't lie or tell them anything, so I figgered it was Intimidate. But whatever. My rolls were crappy anyway.

Ok, maybe I'm confused. You did a sense motive check and succeeded. They are trying to bluff you.

You then did an intimidate check. DC is 10 plus HD plus Wis. That roll failed. So he's not really any more inclined than before to do what you are asking.

But he is getting the impression that you (plural "you") will not cooperate and will soon attack.

Maybe I'm not fully understanding what you were looking for.

Not a problem. Since Sense Motive is an opposed roll, I feel it only fair to roll for them as well instead of simply saying "fail" or "success".

Woodraven and Patrick -- I'm probably going to continue to roll initiative for everyone. I'll fit yours in for this time. But this way I know when initiative/combat starts and we're not waiting for every individual to roll initiative. Seems to work fairly well -- except for one learning experience.

Is it me or are the quotes a bit hard on the eyes to read with its script? Otherwise, I enjoyed some of the highlight context. Sometimes, it being taken out of context and paired with someone else's make it a bit more humorous with its new spin. :P

Hmmm. I was under the impression people wanted to move on. I didn't know anyone was still injured. Since they are replenishing their spells anyway, I'm sure that if you asked nicely, they would have healed you before meditating. ;-)

EDIT -- I'm fine with assuming that you are full on HP.

Interpret him however you wish to. Ask him to clarify IC if you're unsure.

Purposely refraining from metagaming, the only thing I'd indicate that if the leader can be attacked from where you're standing, then do so. It isn't a indication nor an order to combat it from only a ranged position. It's more of a logical perception that the body may wither if you cut it off at the head asap.

Hope that helps. :)

Ok, so it looks like we are looking for a player or two.

Information on the campaign can be found here.

A few restrictions...

If you don't know me (or the other players), then "no" you cannot join.
If I don't know you, then "no" you cannot join.
(I'm not using this to "meet new people". With 200 "friends" on FB, I don't really need more. This for me is a way to give additional interaction with people I already know. So, sorry if you don't qualify due to both the above. All I can say is -- work on that first and see later.)
And I will be selective -- if 20 people want to join, it's not simply going to be "first come, first serve". Again, sorry.

Anyway, we have need of a fighter type (or two). Current level is 8th level with Pathfinder build rules. This is meant to be kind of a "tour of the planes".

If you are interested, let us know...

Moff, I am interested in playing.

I am considering an Oread Fighter (Unbreakable from Ultimate Combat).

Oread are 0-hd creatures so no level adjustment is needed.

He has been summoned due to his earth elemental ancestory to act as protector of the party in their quest. He will be neutral, but fiercely protective of his friends and willing to die for their cause.

I've read through it once, but I need to go through it again to get a better feel. I can adapt his back story as you need to fit into your story. At level 8, what should his starting gold be. I know to start the game, you used 28,000 gp which per Pathfinder wealth by level would equate to 23,500 + 4500. Applying similar logic to level 8 would be 33,000 + 4500 = 37,500. However, I am fine with whatever you believe is appropriate to stay in line with the rest of the party.

I'm glad you liked the Oread concept. It just seemed to fit right with his role.

I am open to any suggestions you wish to make.

I took a quick gander at it and nothing huge came out at me. Two questions -- why that instead of a straight fighter and what if anything should I watch out for?

I started out people at gold that was roughly between 7th and 8th. What's 8th level starting gold and what's 9th level starting gold. (I always have problems finding that table quickly...)

Flash has expressed interest as well. He seems to be a little more interested in somewhat versatile characters than simple bricks -- I'll see if I can work with him and come up with something somewhere in the middle...

I've been crazy-go-nuts busy recently. Need to get the roof replaced, my wife got rear-ended by an uninsured motorist, and 30 year fixed rates are around 3.75% which means I'm quite busy at work as well. I've finally got my materials here at work and I'm hoping to update the thread before I leave for home tonight. I'm also hoping to bring you in soon...

It's the flavor of the unbreakable fighter that mostly attracted me. I think it marries with the Oread race very well and it goes along with why he is being summoned to join this group. He is single minded in his pursuit of his task, in this case, protecting the rest of the party from all dangers. He will risk anything, including his life to protect the mission. This determination manifests itself in his above average ability to resist attempts to shake his will or magically control his actions. As a product of the earth, he is very grounded in view of the world.

Mechanically speaking, I figured at 8th level he faces bigger threats from spell casters so I liked the boost to saves. The only thing I think you will notice is that he succeeds on a much higher percentage of his saves and even if he fails, he may get a second chance to succeed.

I know what you mean about finding the character wealth by level. With the new and improved PRD it is much easier to find and link. character wealth by level table

Level 8 is 33,000 gp and Level 9 is 46,000 gp so the average is 39,500 gp.

Thanks for the ok, and the guidance on how much money to spend. I'll finish him this weekend and then let you take one more perusal. Thanks for letting me play.
