Beyond the rim... there dwells madness -- Moff Rimmer DMs the Planes

Game Master Moff Rimmer

Something is happening that threatens the existence of the planes themselves. Our heroes have been chosen and thrown into things to set things right -- are they up for the challenge?

Huh, what's that?

Male Mostly Human

I think that's going to wrap things up for me for the remainder of the day. Despite being sick, I was able to get in some RP, but I must shower and then head out for the evening to catch a concert. Not letting that ticket go to waste as a friend went out of his way to discount it for me at a loss to him. Then the missus and I are to be headed out to Cincy for the weekend. I'll check in, but will be minimal as it's her great aunt's 80th birthday and she's the matriarch. Or to put it into perspective as my gal is of Italian descent: the Five Families will be there; it would behoove us to attend. Or else. {feels icy stare} Heh.

Anyone's take on Vassago? Other than his brain is verging toward implosion as Moff rightfully observed? :)

I'm about to head out as well. No more OT for Moff. I'll be checking in, at least in the evenings over the weekend, but don't expect quite as much from me over the weekend.

Hope everyone's having fun so far...

Vassago is interesting. I am worried he's going to end up killing one of the halflings.

Moff, I hope you're OK with E's "mysterious origins" approach.

I made some decisions about Vortic's origin. I think he's from a town in the hills (probably from Chessenta or Damara) and used to dealing with Kobolds and/or Lizardfolk and fairly self-sufficient.

Ok, if we're not going to go that route...

If you need to make any changes to your characters, now would be a good time...

Just sayin'.

Someone give me some indication when you're ready for something more to happen. I just want to make sure that everyone has a chance to look the place over, ask questions, figure out who's here, possibly try and figure out what happened, etc. I want to make sure that things keep going, but I don't want to force things along too quickly.

Male Mostly Human

I think the answer lies on the adventure as to where those teleport scrolls would send us, but I confess I'm not exactly sure if anyone are capable of using it by just UMD as our caster level for that spell level access might be low. Or maybe it's just me being unfamiliar with the mechanics on how to do so. I imagine that'll be the key in moving things along.

Or as Vassago wants to think ... go home.

Heh.

Okay, I seriously got to get ready. Damn you for making this start out engaging. When I say damn, I mean thank. XD

Just looked up the rules. For you or Elysia, you would need to make a caster level check -- DC 16. So, just over a 50% chance at this point.

I think the group has some things to hash out before we need more happening. Unless you want to be cruel and CONTINUE with the same kind of bang as the beginning. I agree with Uri. Interesting.

Huh. Maybe it was 3.5 that had UMD and scroll usage as a check. I have a PC in a current campaign I'm playing who actually has a skill boost when using scrolls.

Okay. No further peep out of me until sometime tomorrow.

You can use either in PF or 3.5. Caster level check is just easier.

I lied. One more post. :)

Given I have a +11 to UMD, I had to ask.

It's awwwwwwffulllllly convenient of our GM to provide us TWO scrolls. Lyn and I are able to take two individuals apiece with us.

Wanna guess what's going to happen? Find out tomorrow. *cackle*

Vortic has the suspicious trait, so I'm playing him a little suspicious. Hence he kicked it before and is looking at it tentatively. He saw what it did to the snake guy, and he's unsure if it's a trap or not.

Ok. (For now...) It's a +2 Shocking Burst Greatsword. Anyone carrying the sword can understand any of the elemental languages (Auran, Ignan, Aquan, Terran) but not speak them. It also grants 5 resistance to acid, fire, electrical, & cold damage but only when wielded.

Essentially it will gradually improve as you do. (I can't give you a vorpal weapon to start with.) ... or ever, really.

Forgot to mention...

Spoiler:
It is Lawful and Good aligned. While it doesn't actually do Good or Lawful damage (yet), it does get past that type's DR. In addition, anyone chaotic that touches the weapon loses a level and anyone evil loses a level (as long as they are in contact with the weapon). Anyone who is both then loses two levels, but also starts taking damage (as inflict/cure wounds as appropriate).

Hence the reason the Yuan-Ti was confused and in pain.

I've been around a long time. I've got stuff up my sleeve.

Actually, Elysia will probably be the most difficult...

Character takes:
Vortic: Nice stolid, somewhat misanthropic yet not heartless feel. Canny fighter type.
Vassago: Suspicious, cynical, egotistical, world-weary. What's not to love? His implosion is fun.

These guys are really nice ballast for the goofier side of the crew:

E.: Wafflingly fluffy and superstitious - very fey and vague.
Elysia: Hummingbird on speed? Wouldn't hurt a fly intentionally.
Pinna: Birdlike energy and curiousity poorly bridled by long training. Somewhat alien in thought.

Then there's Lanwin, the fulcrum of the balance, thoughtful and cautious, helpful but not terribly forthcoming. I get the feeling that he's biding his time and watching the rest of us before deciding to commit.

All in all, it's a nice-feeling party.

Power takes:
Weak in melee, unless people have powers not exhibited in the first encounter. I'm concerned about our ability to protect the casters.

Startup:
Awesome fun! Go Moff!

Not the first time I've had an intelligent sword as a character. Had a LG sword "Celeria" in Treppa's SCAP campaign for two years. My cleric of Heironeous would often stop and have a "thought conversation" with "her".

I like Treppa's description of Elysia. It's so accurate. :)

And way to play against type, Urizen and Studpuffin. Sure it may be sign that the end of the world is nigh, but hey, it's all in good fun. ;P

I'm enjoying the versatility. I'm definitely going to use this to expand my role playing that tends to be lacking in my F2F games. I'll definitely be expanding on it as I feel things out.

Imploding is definitely on the mark. Keep watching. ;-)

Male Mostly Human

I'll have something up later today. I'm busily uploading photos from last night's show I attended in the background on FB and it takes a lot of bandwidth. The lil lady is also giving me the eye that we need to get stuff together to head down to Cincy ... including giving the big puppy a bath. O.o

There's a couple of things I do want to search through the place now that the fire's out before we disembark, but I'll cover that when I post IC.

Ciao.

I like RPing in PbPs. It's easier than at the table, because you have more time to think about what you are going to say.

You also don't have to feel foolish using funny voices or anything. Even though I do while I post. Or between posts. Hmmm.

I knew we should have added the GPS collar when we ear-tagged him. But the tranq dart was wearing off, and you don't want to be around an infuriated Urizen when that happens.

I could've just tranq'd him with the regular stuff, but you said to use the buffalo tranqs. Next time I'm upping the dosage.

Sorry, folks. The womenfolk had other plans yesterday and we were out running when we landed and didn't get back until 10'ish and I essentially crashed. They're scrambling around this morning in preparation for the 80th birthday surprise party for the family matriarch. Let's see what I can kick out, but it's going to be probably my only post unless I can follow up this evening when I get home.

I'm a little confused now. We've got people going in two different directions. I'll wait a bit to see if this can get resolved a little more...

Hey Moff, that "Choo! Choo!" thing... I didn't mean to offend if I did. I apologize. That was rude of me. :(

I'm confused as well. Either we back up a bit and go with Vassago's teleport idea (and pick a destination), or Vassago is currently alone in the house, with everyone else having followed Vortic out and (I assume) disappeared in turn.

Male Mostly Human

I'm alone for a moment ... the ladies are running around with their heads cut off because the left hand didn't tell what what the right hand wasn't doing ... and apparently it translated here with me skimming quickly while I was getting the visual and vocal "will you get off that damn thing?" when trying to be brief in replying. So I managed to sneak back in while trying to look for an appropriate '80th birthday' quote for a memoir they're putting together for everyone to write in.

P.S. I thought we were all outside? And I was under the impression that those teleport scrolls had a pre-set destination. If I had misunderstood, I apologize.

Like I said, it's a madhouse over here.
