If it were me, I would rather suffer a bit longer to know that it will be "guaranteed" to work later on (because math... enough castings will get it eventually). The next scroll will likely cost money...

![]() |

I cannot argue with that logic. He'll just suffer on for now.

GM Damo |

You could also do the +8 hero point thing to increase the odds of success to a bit better than 50/50. I would also allow rerolls on that (with anyone being able to use their hero points to help out - moral support and all that).

GM Damo |

I'll answer Ishbaad's questions and move it along later this morning.
I know we've kicked off a few new games recently, but can I ask for some more activity on this one please? I'm happy to move on when things stall like this, but I'd still like a post per day at a minimum.
Lockwood, I know you're away, so that's cool.

Jorvik_RoW |

I swear I posted before I read this. Happy to comply and I apologize if I slowed things down. Totally amped for Whitethrone. I have been reading Winter Witch by Elaine Cunningham to try and set the mood in my head.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I'm just trying not to have 2 or 3 posts in a row... :)
Just wanted to mention I like how Jorvik is trying to prep us for Whitethrone. I do think this will be an interesting crossroads for some characters here. I think I know how Ishbaad is going to handle it, I've probably spent far to much time thinking about it. Hopefully it doesn't suck :)

Aoife Limerick wrote:How this stranger could have known of that name she did not know, and was not quite yet prepared to ask.Just checking that the player knows Jorvik introduced himself before Taavi spoke the name. Taavi was only dimly aware at the time, so incorporated the name into his ravings. Sorry if that makes it less cool. For RP, just pretend Aoife came in after Jorvik introduced himself. ;-)
No worries, we can go with that for RP purposes! I'm totally fine with that.
You are completely right, I totally did misunderstand. My bad! Plus, on top of that, the statement in my post was ambiguous too.
I thought the reveal here was that there were general rumors and stories within Irrisen of someone known as the Bloodspeaker. And, that the rumors and stories about the Bloodspeaker paint him to be someone dangerous. Taavi, though not sent there specifically to warn us of the Bloodspeaker, hear's Jorvik introduce himself and then recognizes the name. Then, as part of his ravings tries to warn the rest of us about the Bloodspeaker in case we don't know how dangerous he is. I took along the same lines as if someone in RL were introduced to an infamous criminal who's name they had heard in stories and though didn't know them personally, they know enough to recognize the name and be afraid.

Sorry for the delays in posting last week. My work schedule got out of hand and each day when it was supposed to let up, basically it did not. I'll try my best to keep up better this week.
I'm super interested to see what's going on with this localized area of global warming in Irrisen.

Jorvik_RoW |

So a bit confused here, was the megaloceros meant to be a mount for Ishbaad? If so no worries.
Like I previously mentioned I am technically on track for the Mammoth Rider PC.
The problem is that you cannot get it until 9th level - 9 ranks in handle animal and 9 ranks in ride. I will have all the other Pre-requs by then and had planned on taking them thematically anyway.
So if Ishbaad wants this for a mount - take it. I have 5 levels to go. :-(

Ishbaad the Chosen |

So I was thinking that this mount isn't an animal companion type, it's similar to if one of us bought a horse, except waaaaaay cooler. You could still train it and ride it, and then eventually take the mammoth. Don't pass on it just because you will get a Mammoth eventually :)
Take some time to think about it. We don't have to rush. You won't be ninth level until sometime in book 3, based on the typical level progression.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I figured out how I am going to do it -
Have the dire elk as a mount that is... I am going to take a level dip into ranger. I just have to decide if I do it at character level 5 or 6, depending on how long Jorvik wants to have it as his mount.
Obviously it won't be an Animal Companion type mount, but I think that would work the best, it will synergize well with the Inquisitor abilities and give me a good amount of skill points to branch out a little bit. I may not go crazy with mounted feats like a cavalier, but I think it could work. I will likely have to make a lot more handle animal checks than I do with Pooka, but this could be pretty fun. An Oread inquisitor on a Megalocerous and a half-elven bloodspeaker on a Mammoth.
This is going to be Epic :)

GM Damo |

I would allow it as a cavalier mount (if you want it as part of your class at 1st level). We would have to tweak some things, but I don't see any issues.
However, you don't need any of that to take it as a mount. Provided you and Jorvik continue to train it, the elk can (eventually) serve you as well as any horse (plus massive antlers).
Of course, it is entirely up to you how you do it!

There is a cavalier archetype (beast rider) that allows you to have a megaloceros as a mount, but not until you hit 4th level. I would definitely not be opposed to that as an alternative, but it would be stretching the RAW. Of course, this isn't PFS now is it? :) In my original musings, I didn't want to dip 4 levels into cavalier, and didn't want to re-write my character out of the inquisitor class. (I like far to much how it is tied into Ishbaad's story)
A "beast of burden" of sorts would make the most sense for the group as a whole. (still have to find out how in the world we are going to feed it...) LIGHT BULB!!!! Ah-Ha! We can harness it and use it to pull a sleigh!
Ok - I am liking the idea of the sleigh much more now. Then its a "party" item, and we have a very fitting means of transport. Not sure how that jives with the AP as a whole and the dancing hut... but its a thing that could be awesome.

Another thought - this is exactly why I thought that the ranger dip could be very useful. It would help give Ishbaad the skills to be able to use it as a "mundane" mount akin to a horse, plus the combat crunch of a ranger synergizes pretty well with the inquisitor. Favored enemy+judgements+bane... not to shabby. Just some thoughts.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

RAW can suck my dick.
I said what I said.
That is all.
Water just came out of my nose.
Gotta stop taking a drink while I read these boards.

Jorvik_RoW |

And Ishbaad don't link that to the beastmaster thread. Best let the GM get on with his ruling.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Sorry for blasting the gameplay thread!!
I had to top I wanted to do something like Jorvik did when he multi-classed, and thought it would be a fun way to bring out some backstory, and also foreshadow a little bit at the same time.
Hope it is at least half as cool as it was in my head when I wrote it. :)

Aoife Limerick |

I thought it was awesome, dude! Great job!
I love how you tied it all together now... the elk, the flashback, Jewel. Really, really neat!

Jorvik_RoW |

Awesome job Steve. We need to get Ishbaad and Ophiuchus into a room to morn their lost wives. The EMO meter would shatter.
To me that story of loss is one that really defines characters, both in RPGs and in RL. Love what you did man. I totally saw your story as a flashback of a movie in my head. The setting of the scene did a lot to contribute to the feel of it. Nicely done.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Thanks Jorvik and Aoife!
Jorvik, you set the bar high with your posts, I'm just trying to keep up with you guys. :) Aoife nailed hers too, that was awesome.

GM Damo |

Would anyone object me to marking this as 'inactive' until November 23rd? If not, I'll wait at least 24 hours for people to catch up on reading (and read the above notice) and then do that.
Also, is this a deal breaker for anyone? Would you prefer to quit than have such a long hiatus? If that is the case, I can re-assess my stance.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I want to hang on to this game as long as possible. If you want to mark it as inactive that is fine with me, but no quitting from me. :) I like this story to much.

Aoife Limerick |

I also would like Reign of Winter to remain. I'm digging the story and characters so far. I do feel the strain keeping up with my measly 4 games, I don't know how the rest of you keep up with more, maybe I just type slower or post on my phone too much. But I know I need to cut back and get my games down to 2 steady, plus the occasional 3rd. I would much, much rather pick a different game to end in place of this one. And since IoD seems to fill a similar long-term story niche as Reign of Winter, I'd much rather keep Reign and end Isle if it came down to that touch choice. That's just my two cents.
That being said, if it's not fun for others, or not fun/too stressful/too annoying for you, Damien, then I'd rather end this game too. I wouldn't have any hard feelings. I don't want a game that is supposed to be fun and relaxing to cause unneeded stress for anyone. So if the game has become that, especially for you, Damien, I'm totally cool if this ends too and won't have any hard feelings about it.

Kuragin Kseniya |

I think the 2.5 week break would be good. To cool off the frustration of the site being down, and hopefully to have paizo fix their forum software. I would be sad to see this end, so let's have the break first.
The story of Ishbaad, Aoife, Jorvik, Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight, Kuragin and (hopefully) Coramus will be waiting here.

GM Damo |

.... aaaaand we're back! I tried to get a post in and enable this earlier, but Paizo.com timed out. Now I won't get a post in until tomorrow night at the earliest.
In the meantime, though, feel free to pick up where we left off. Thank you for your patience, folks! As with Isle of Dread, due to Thanksgiving week we can take it easy until November 30th.

![]() |

Back to two columns again!
And I was thinking just this morning that it feels a little weird to only be GMing two tables right now!
hee hee

![]() |

So, do we want to recruit a replacement for Coramus, given that Chris B hasn't been heard from in a month?

GM Damo |

No replacements. This is a 4-person adventure anyway. An additional player would just mean I have to go back to adjusting your progression (or the encounters) again. Now I just need to scale it up only slightly here and there... or keep you a fraction behind on the levels.
I don't want 4 players, though! Sorry also to Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight who now misses out on his buddy. You can change your teamwork feat if you like, by the way (to another teamwork feet, perhaps one that matches well with the others).

![]() |

I am not worried about it, just wanted to see what you wanted to do. It's all cool

Jorvik_RoW |

Not that my opinion matters, but I agree with GM here. Jorvik will happily take Ice in the fold. Lots of our earlier RP was moving that way anyway.
Don't worry Kuragin, you are still my first love <3

![]() |

Thanks, Jorvik!
I was thinking I would do better with coordinated maneuvers, but rethought this for a couple of reasons... if only because it helps both Jorvik and Kuragin cast their spells. Neither are great for Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight, but he'd love to help out his new bosses!
Of course, you know, Jorvik is gonna be called "Boss" from now on (which you know is a term of endearment with Ice, since he called Coramus that all the time).
He'll be like crazy little two-year-old that the two of you never had!

![]() |

I am thinking that we should recover the loot that Coramus was carrying. At least use the items that could be used... the rest we can assume is going to be used to take care of him.
For example, he has a scroll of animate objects, a pearl of power I, a ring of protection I, a scroll of resist energy, a potion of CLW, a scroll of magic weapon, a wand of color spray (that is getting to be less valuable, so we should probably just sell), a scroll of comprehend languages.
If the GM (and/or group) doesn't agree, and we just leave the above on Coramus, that is cool, too.

GM Damo |

I gave you guys more loot to compensate for having more characters in the game. I will agree to you guys grabbing the pearl of power and ring of protection to use, but nothing else (either to sell or use).

![]() |

That's fair!
Just wanted to bring it up.

GM Damo |

Looks like you guys are still deciding. I'll try not to rush it. At the moment, Kuragin and Ishbaad are hanging back (due to poor stealth bonuses). Aoife is going invisible, and Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight and Jorvik are relying upon their skills. I know your characters don't know this, but I wouldn't worry too much about whatever challenge is in this hut.
I do like the discussion and RP that's going on, though, so I'll give you a bit more time and move it along over the weekend. Also, it's good practice for when things do get more dicey.

Aoife Limerick |

@ GM Damo: Quick question. For the house scene with the mother and two daughters currently happening, it looks to me like the door into the building is on the west/left side of the map, but I wondered what the thingy is on the east/right side of the map? Is that a cellar door leading beneath the house? I just wanted to clarify before I have Aoife do a double move to the far west/left side of the house, if there is a way into the building much closer to her current position.

GM Damo |

Woops! I had the map wrong. Quite right. Let's just pretend it's the front porch and the other bit is the back entrance. Sorry. That's the problem with hurriedly downloading a random cottage map online.
Ran out of time tonight. Will get to this tomorrow. Hopefully will hear from Jorvik and Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight by then.

Aoife Limerick |

No worries at all! Thanks for the information. East/right side = front porch, West/left side = back entrance. I'll hold off posting Aoife's motion until tomorrow, just to hear what Jorvik and Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight have to say before she scurries off and probably botches this whole thing up :)

Aoife Limerick |

To our current predicament with Ishbaad in trouble... Ahhhhhhh!

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I know it is meta - but I am 100% cool with using hero points to cheat death here everyone. Don't kill your characters trying to save me. For what it's worth...

GM Damo |

FYI I was talking about a different use for hero points than "cheat death". Let me know if you need more of a clue. Sorry for the poor spot I put you in, but abandoning a friend who is bleeding out while evil fey are around... well, something bad had to happen!

Jorvik_RoW |

Here. Just checking some rules out. Will
Post soon I hope.

Aoife Limerick |

@ GM Damo: Weird question. Do you happen to have the chronicle sheets still from Reign of Winter book 1? I can't seem to find mine anymore.

Jorvik_RoW |

After we finish this and before we move on, I would like to take a moment to figure out what to do with our add-on Taavi. As he clearly stated, he is looking for the Black Rider ipsofacto us.
