GM Damo |

Man, I love being able to skip through the boring parts of a battle like that! No need to mop up the sprites who can only deal 1 non-lethal damage each per round (and cast some annoying spells). This ain't PFS! Woo!
*ahem*
Okay, please everyone... at your leisure LEVEL UP TO LEVEL 2! Congratulations. It seems like a hard-earned level, it took ages (I was surprised as I read through). I think if we were doing it with XP, instead of "as expected", you'd have leveled before the fight... but then it wouldn't have been much of a challenge! Also, I think you understand now why I felt pressing on was a better idea than allowing them time to prepare for your arrival.
You also gain 2 hero points. You get one for leveling anyway and one for finding the winter portal and defeating the guardians defending it - but mostly for the way you handled the ghost of Thora. You won't always get an extra hero point at the conclusion of an adventure portion, but I will use those as moments to consider it.
This also concludes the portion of book 1 that is sanctioned! As such, chronicle sheets for everyone! I need to report it officially, so please send me a PFS # that I can use. I'll leave pretty much everything else blank. It awards XP for levels 1-2 and is the same GP value for both (so you're better off using it to level boost a new level 1 character, but using it for a level 2 character is probably fine also).
There is a boon that requires me to initial which ability score you want that character to have a +1 bonus to (for 1 minute, 1/day). Awesome boon. I'll just initial it and you can fill it in when you have your character done - unless you know now, in which case let me know and I'll fill it in for you.
Levelling up - UNCHAINED!
It sucks that Unchained hasn't hit the PRD yet, but we will press on (since no-one has objected).
Reminder: Misfits Unchained on Pathfinder Unchained
Most important bits:
- You gain 3 background skills. You can use existing eligible skills (eg. profession, knowledge, etc) as your background skills and pick new ones. For most of you, this means 3 extra skill points - per LEVEL! Please do try to pick some skills that help you to flesh out your character, rather than using this as an excuse to munchkin it up.
- You can have the signature skill feat as a bonus feat, or combat stamina. While the former won't have an effect until level 5 - oh, what an effect (and it's also better than combat stamina if you're a primary caster character).
- For now, I'm leaving out all of the magic rules (automatic bonus progression, etc). I think the general feeling is ambivalence, so no need to shoe-horn it in. When / if you start creating magic items, we will look at dynamic item creation.
Keep in mind you can do variant multiclassing if you like, and if you do multiclass fully (old rules style), you use fractional bonuses to level up. If you don't have a copy of Pathfinder Unchained and you want to multiclass, let me know.
Any questions?
Congratulations, and have fun with level 2! It's all more exciting from here (character-wise that is, I was personally pretty excited with the story thus far).

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Woohoo! Nice job as always Damo! I just wanted to quickly point out that I agree, the story has gone extremely well so far. I am loving these characters and the story line. Can't wait to see what level 2 brings!

Aoife Limerick |

Sorry, I really read over the RAW for this one (even did some thinking about RAI) and it doesn't work that way. Contrived example:
- Aoife has 10 rounds of rage total available.
- Aoife rages for 8 rounds (wreaking devastation wherever she goes).
- Jorvik sees more enemies on the horizon and begins his raging song (which would last for 6 rounds).
- Aoife can:
1 > Accept the raging song, let go of her rage, and suffer fatigued condition (while still benefiting from her rage bonuses); or
2 > Accept the raging song and continue to rage for 2 more rounds, after which she will be raging under the song and fatigued.
3 > Choose not to accept the raging song and continue along as normal (2 rounds or rage left)... or any other combination of events.Hope that clears it up. When you end your own rage, nothing can clear the fatigued condition except some effect that explicitly does so. Rage is not one of those effects.
Sounds good, dude. Thanks for the clearing it up. I just wanted to make sure I understood exactly how it would work and not to assume, because I had misunderstood previously when we talked about this in the discussion thread. But I think Aoife is all set now, rules-wise. Thanks again!

Aoife Limerick |

Also, I just want to echo Ishbaad/Steve's comments. I think the story is going amazing, and is super cool. I love the knight coming out of the portal, such a neat turn of events. And, very well written Damo!

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Ok, so just want to describe my feelings at the moment. I used to swear like a sailor. It affected me and the people around me it was so bad. So before my (literal) "come to Jesus" moment, I had already made the mental choice to curb my swearing. So much so that I am uncomfortable even typing "OMFG".
with that said... OMFG WAYFINDER MAKES ME WANT TO DESTROY BEAUTIFUL THINGS!!!
It actually ATE a post. Yes, a post that had already been successfully posted. My current post makes no sense, because I tried to edit it, and it wouldn't post. So I tried to just make a secondary post, and it deleted the original, and replaced it with what I was going to add in an edit.
/sigh
Ishbaad feels like a dope for not realizing the man was injured. aka, steve feels like a dope for not registering that part when he read the description the first time. Too enthralled in the visualization to visualize one of the coolest parts of that entry...

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Another side note:
I will be purchasing (finally) unchained for my hero lab this weekend so I can easily use the rules to level up. I will be digging into it extensively...
I will likely be purchasing the pdf very soon as well so I can see how that will affect any of my PFS characters. I am very much looking forward to seeing how these alternate rules will affect things... in practice...

GM Damo |

Thanks guys, glad you like the knight's appearance. I wanted to make it a little more epic and so I thought incinerating the sprites with nary a word would help with that (sorry Jorvik!).
Got a lot of exposé to get through, and I'd rather not just offload it all at once. Please do ask questions. I may have presented too much already (not that you weren't supposed to learn it, just that it's a bunch of stuff).
Take your time here, he won't expire just yet... and he has much he can tell you.

Jorvik_RoW |

Lot to digest there. I will work on getting Jorvik all updated, might post a question or two on Unchained.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Ok, reading through some things. Did we decide on how we will gain HP? I couldn't find it, or more likely read right past it... I will stick with PFS standard for now...
hp: 1d8 ⇒ 7
That would be nice though... ;)

Coramus Thallon |

Coramus is pleased at developments, and will seek to level to 2 this evening.

![]() |

Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight will be getting precise bombs (I am sure to everyone's relief -- though this only helps on bombs).

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Crap, I knew I was forgetting something. I don't remember what the PFS number is for this guy... 133958-?? I will get that tonight when I jump back into hero lab - have some fun unchained stuff to mess with.
Name: Hrothgar the Cursed
(what is it with me and names that end in _______ the [something]?)
You can initial the strength score for the boon - will work soooo beautifully with this character :) I am going to want to play him at some point... So far he has just be my pregen sheet dump.... Should be fun to play right off the bat at level 3+
Also off topic - I think I may have finally settled in on an avatar I like that fits my character idea. We will see if I like it enough to stick with it. Funny how that picture grows on you over time.
There was only 1 picture I could find that was an actual Oread, and it was not "human" enough for me, which is probably more my fault in how I visualized the character before I ever chose the race...

Damien Wilmann |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

I guess you're on your own there. My favourite characters have sensible names, like...
Arturo the Swift
Ah, crap. Well at least there's...
Lort the Mighty
Oh, but in John's game I was playing...
Xûll the Outcast
... erm... yeah. Great way to name a character, as it turns out! ;-)
I like the new Avatar. Will be interesting to see if you keep it.

![]() |

My character for reporting will be:
74294-18
Name: Of Ice Melting Silently
(at least for now)

Kuragin Kseniya |

I'll level up Kuragin after the weekend, once I'm back at my computer.

In addition to their normal allotment of regular skill ranks, all characters gain 2 background skill ranks each time they gain a level in a PC class.
Damien, did you change this from 2 to 3? I am cool with that, either way, but wanted to make sure.

Aoife Limerick |

Aoife should be completed with leveling up to 2 now, her stat line should reflect the proper updates. She was updated to the unchained changes quite a while ago, so that should be all set, as well.
The toon to report the chronicle for will be-
Name: Augustus Aeyon
PFS#: 141231-5
Totally digging the game damo! It's been amazing.

Jorvik_RoW |

For Reporting purposes, I will use My GM blob, 75655-8 Nugats ah the .... Unused and he will use the Int Boon.
Busy weekend, will try and get Jorvik leveled up, thinking about taking a level in fighter or ranger.

Coramus Thallon |

My PFS character shall be:
Name: Wiles Fincher
PFS#: 73432-5
Yes, it has been very awesome so far!

Coramus Thallon |

Leveled to 2! Bumped all of my previous skills up 1 rank, and added: Profession (Salesman) and Linguistics.
New spells: Identify, Magic Missile

Coramus Thallon |

Well, considering IMQiS likely proved early on to be more adept at Alchemy, it seemed prudent that Coramus would shift his efforts towards hawking their wares. :)

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Ok, I am updating my profile incrementally here. Should be all done in Herolab, just gotta get it on the site. Tagline is up to date.
Will get everything else done today.
Rundown:
-Ishbaad gets cunning initiative (add wisdom to initiative, making it +4 now)
-detect alignment at will
-track - gives me half my level to survival to track.
Added protection from evil and sift to my list of known spells
I added points in every knowledge skill I could take, as well as survival and heal. the only thing I have doubled up on right now is perception.
I added the combat stamina feat (Since that was given to us for free) and chose Lore: Iomedae and Profession: Soldier for my background skills
OH! Damo! My PFS Number for the chronicle sheet is 133958-6, Hrothgar the Cursed
I think that is pretty much it.

Kuragin Kseniya |

I agree with the others, awesome game so far!
Please report the chronicle to my PFS character:
Name: Hulda
PFS#: 96960-10
I haven't leveled up Kuragin yet, but I promise to do it within the next 24 hours. Done celebrating Midnight Sun, but sooooo tired now.

You each get +2 to an ability score of your choice. This is a permanent increase.
Holy crap!
I have to ask, is this in the AP?
In any case, Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight is applying this to Intelligence.
His current background skills are (he moved 2 pts from active to background)
Appraise(1) +9
Craft Alchemy (2) +10
Linguistics(2) +7
Sleight of Hand(1) +7
The increase in INT will allow him to take +1 Fire Resistance instead of a skill point. FIRE! FIRE! (makes sense, right?)
GM Damo, do I need to decide now about Stamina vs Signature Skill now? He can't really use either. If I have to decide now, I will.
He is taking Precise Bombs, for sure. That will help him to overcome the issue with splashing friends, especially since his next discovery will be explosive bombs!
Oh, and after this weekend, I realized that extracts (and mutagens) are Su abilities, and as such do not provoke! Wow. Bombs provoke, because ranged touch attacks provoke. However, this will all allow IMQiS to be a little more reckless in combat. He'll probably even keep a CLW extract on hand now!

Yep! It sure is. Actually, Aoife, this is what I meant all that time ago when I said "trust me" on not worrying about your slightly lower than average (for a barbarian) strength. Not that you have to put this into strength (con and dex works fine for barbarians, too!), just saying.
Nice work on the skills, Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight... though 'craft alchemy' is probably more active than background. ;-) Fire resistance makes perfect sense, and thank you for taking it despite knowing this is called "Reign of Winter". I'm sure it might come in handy at some point, just not often.
No need to decide about stamina vs signature skill until level 5. Absolutely fine if you're on the fence about it and want to stay that way.
Cool news about extracts and mutagens. That's another +1 for alchemists over wizards. As ever, though, 'best arcane spell progression in the game' is still a big draw card that Coramus will begin to enjoy... eventually. :-D
Speaking of, after re-reading the level guidelines, you should have been level 2 for that final fight. It says "when you find the portal", but that probably means before the final fight. The next two levels will be coming relatively quickly. Parts 2-4 are much quicker than part 1 - we're already mostly done with part 2!

Nice! I remember that hint, and kept looking for what it might mean as we were playing. Then once it actually happened, it still took me a moment to put it together. But I eventually figured it out ;)
Also, that use wasn't exactly what I had intended for Aoife to do with the survivor when we previously discussed her taking it. But I guess it worked out ok :)
Quick question based on what you mentioned above, does the combat stamina feat not apply until level 5?

Aoife Limerick |

Sounds great, coordinated maneuvers benefits from it, as I understand :)

Kuragin Kseniya |

Kuragin leveled up, took these background skills:
Knowledge (Nobility) +8 (2+6)
Artistry (Fashion) +10 (1+3+6)
Linguistics +7 (1+6)
Ability boost to INT, and Fortune as the new hex.

Jorvik_RoW |

Leveled up - took Ranger (Falconer) so I have a BIRD!
Stats are updated in tagline.
Took the +2 for my dump stat Wisdom
Background skills - I want something so that I can carve sayings on weapons - is that Craft (Weapons) and Kn Nature.

I suppose that is helpful if you are multiclassing into ranger.
Sure don't want to use variant multiclassing?

GM Damo |

Ooh, Kuragin! Nice work taking one of the new skill types. I thought Stilyagi were supposed to be decidedly un-fashionable, though! Good to see you bucking the trend.
+1 on the variant multiclassing. I'd also personally recommend leaving your dump stat as a dump stat. It's never going to shine as much as your other stats. Go str or cha or con or dex... anything but wis! ;-)

Thanks for the suggestions, I just read up a bit on Variant Multiclassing. Interesting concept. I plan on keeping both classes fairly even and the variant doesn't give me enough flavor.
Also, as a half-elf, I have multitalented so I get FCB to both classes.
Since I am now quite MAD, I need that boost to Wis.
Bird stats coming soon - any answer to the Skill Question? To carve symbols on Weapons is that Craft?

GM Damo |

All good on both fronts.
As for symbols on weapons, provided that have no item bonuses or personal income, you can do that as flavor with no issues at all.
If you want bonuses: Inscribe Rune.
If you want income: Profession (blacksmith) or Craft (arms & armor).
If you want it to look good with actual in-game effects: Artistry (symbology).
... or something like that.

Jorvik_RoW |

If you want it to look good with actual in-game effects: Artistry (symbology).
BINGO!

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Loot sheet mostly done for this encounter. Still some holes, primarily with pricing. and Others need to claim stuff, I claimed stuff for some people knowing IMQiS would try to take everything he can... :)

What? I don't know what you are talking about. It is salvage!

Aoife Limerick |

Aoife's 'entering the portal' post is up. Let me know if the post assumes too much and needs to be deleted from the boards while there is still time. (I'm super excited to see what's waiting on the other side)

Aoife Limerick |

I just didn't want to overstep bounds and take too many liberties, glad I didn't :)

Jorvik_RoW |

If Aoife was ok, I hope my was ok too. Sorry for the Wall o' text everyone. It seems that I am feast or famine in RoW.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Ishbaad is all leveled up - Current loot sorting is not yet added to his profile. I will wait until it all shakes out, in case someone else wants that magical spear.
Also - fixed my tagline - had a goof in there from some skill points I spent then changed my mind. Also reflects the combat stamina feat (that is going to be fun to use)
FYI Damo:
Ishbaad's initiative is now 4, mentioned that above, just wanted to mention it again in case it got lost in the shuffle. Lots of other things obviously went up also, but usually init doesn't so I wanted to mention it.
Also, Ishbaad now has the following Knowledge skills (+4 normally, +7 for monster lore specifically)
Arcana, Dungeoneering, Nature, Planes, and Religion.
His background skills are Profession (soldier) and Lore (Iomedae)
He got his extensive knowledge about Iomedae when he was first trying to impress Jewel, his late wife, who was a priestess of Iomedae. She was also the reason we went from being just a soldier, to an inquisitor of Iomedae.

Aoife Limerick |

Jorvik, that post is amazing. Holy crap, dude. Well written, for sure. I got into reading it, and was excited to see where the story was going. I especially love the sort of twist ending thingy. Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome job.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Yea.... we gotta stop apologizing for walls of text and realize that we all LOVE IT!
Nicely done!

GM Damo |

Great job all around, boys. Keep it coming!
I feel like I'm stiffing you with my posts these days. ;-)
More will follow, for sure... but I just want to make sure you're all willingly standing at the edge of the cliff before I push you off (metaphorically, of course).
