No worries at all! And thanks for updating Aoife's position! Just so I know, what did I miss in the game so that Aoife couldn't 5-foot adjust into melee, did I miss that there was actually 10-feet between the raven mistress and my toon?

Oh, the steel raven cage! It was the only spot next to Jairess that was within 5ft of you. Every other route was 10ft away.

DON'T!!

Part of the game. Also part of why you gave us Hero Points... :)

Failure can occasionally be frustrating (especially when it happens a lot) but I try very hard to just roll with it, and make it part of the story. That, of course, is much easier and more fun in PbP setting, when you can really have fun with what goes wrong.

This is exactly why Cyrus tried to climb the side of a ship when he had no business trying. I figured it wouldn't break the encounter, and had some ideas on how to describe what would happen if he fell into the water. Plus it would have been awesome had he succeeded...

Now... failure when you are set up for it (a la WBG3) is an entirely different matter...

I think this was supposed to be an extra standard action, not a reroll.

I think then it should be declared ahead of time... and it didn't look like it was. Aoife, up to you. I'll let this one slide if this is what you intended and take the extra damage.

EDIT: Just saw Aoife's post. I'll take the extra damage. Didn't realize it was the two standards. Just keep in mind that this can't be added on, though, and needs to be declared "at the start" (hard to tell in a post, I know).

Now I have this cool curse to deal with, I smell some awesome character stuff coming up :)

Thanks, I'm glad. Also... if it didn't go off... looks like he wasted his entire first round on casting a frigging full round cast. Your collective damage output is just too high for that to be a good idea. Teach me for using tactics as written. What is this, PFS?

Actually, the goat touch spell tactic was entirely mine... and a little devious (even if I did have to rule in my own favor in order for it to work).

I may or may not have more tricks up my sleeve... but at this rate, Coramus will down him before he can show you!

CLW: 0 charges left (0 wands), CMW: 43 charges left (2 wands) | Tactical | Portraits | Loot | Wiki

Here's the thing I don't like about most "morale" sections in the stat block. They'll often say "flees when reduced below 10 hp" or some such BS. By then, it's almost always too late. This guy was "below 15", but 20 hp from a single bomb... well. Anyway! I prefer it when they don't flee. Ice's bomb had him down to 1 hp (when I remembered to actually roll for his false life). He then had no means to escape and put himself out. He had to choose. I figured to just have him try to flee and not realize exactly how wounded he was and consequently how dire the flame situation was for him. Anyway. Well done.

Also, Radosek could see your movements (because you either forgot about or abandoned your "smash all mirrors" strategy) and would have been far better off to have cast the fly hex when he realized you were coming, or to have simply entered a different room to cast summon monster. I really should have realized and modified his tactics accordingly prior to round 1. I figured giving him a full round's head start would have helped, but initiative and some great rolls (and strategy) from you guys put a stop to that!

Finally, and probably most importantly...

LEVEL UP TO LEVEL 4!

Gain a hero point for leveling up, and gain a hero point for your valiant (swords & shields as well as hearts & minds) efforts to bring the town around to a *successful* rebellion against the baroness.

There is still a lot of resolution to do, like looting the room, talking to townsfolk and... oh, what was that thing... oh, yeah... shutting down the Portal! However, none of it will be affected if you level up while doing it. You were supposed to be level 4 before you hit the tower, but I think we can all agree that it was a much better challenge for you at level 3 (if indeed a challenge it was). Your tactics were spot on! Well, except for the mirrors, and that would have taken ages. They are everywhere.

Would cutting it open and reading the entrails work? Or letting Pushkin drink the goat's blood? Spell learning works a bit odd for witches...

And huzzah, level four!

Notable changes:

  • Added +1 to Cha
  • Versatile Performance (Ex)
[Errata] At 2nd level, a skald can choose one type of Perform skill associated with the skald class. He can use his bonus in that skill in place of his bonus in the associated skills listed below. When substituting in this way, the skald uses his total Perform skill bonus, including class skill bonus, in place of the associated skill's bonus, whether or not he has ranks in that skill or if it is a class skill. At 7th level, and every 5 levels thereafter, the bard can select an additional type of Perform to substitute.
The types of Perform and their associated skills are: Oratory (Diplomacy, Sense Motive)
  • Watcher of the Weave (Ex)
At 2nd level, a fated champion learns to see the tapestry of events moments before it is woven. He gains an insight bonus on initiative checks equal to 1/2 his skald level.
    This ability replaces well-versed.

Becoming quite the skill monkey face guy.

Just get a handy haversack... :) Better utility anyways, move action to have any item just appear in your hand. Veeery handy. And doesn't take up a back slot.

No breaking the rules to allow two back slot items, I'm afraid. Nice try.

You can indeed rebuild as needed between books. However, I do just ask that you don't abuse it (eg. by deliberately taking some feats that is useful at lower levels before replacing them with an entire deep-level feat chain, for example).

I mentioned this in OOC text on my post because it felt... forced... (perhaps?) saying it out loud in character after focusing on the portal focus.

I thought about giving the task of looting to IMQiS, but felt oddly bossy... so I left it out.

If you really wanted to interrogate Radosek, I can either retcon Hatch's actions (allowing you enough time to stop him) or include a scroll of speak with dead. Sorry for the super long post in gameplay... seems as though I was Cyrus'd 3 times in the midst of that.

Also it seems as though there is more than one person who wants the amulet of natural armor. We can talk about it in game, but I think Jorvik's split is probably best, the primary melee characters should get first dibs on the ring and the amulet... just my opinion, I can be convinced otherwise.

Just want to mention again that I loved the whole tower sequence. The simultaneous separate story threads, the battle as it progressed, the scene, the tension... Really well done, and big props go to you Damo for your setup and storytelling. Loved it.

Also, my gameplay post still hasn't really pushed anything forward, but I wanted to make sure I got a response in for Aoife's totally cool moment of self doubt and internal struggle. I will post again to respond to the magical thing behind the curtain, as well as the continued search and looting of the top floor, then we can get into the part about connecting back up with Nadya and the town.

@Kuragin - Looks like a nice level up, Kuragin. Especially the INT and cold resistance. But... isn't Charm Person a level 1 spell? Don't you want a level 2 instead? I am partial to Hold Person, especially if you've got a really high INT. mirror hideaway would seem to be thematic, as well as pretty useful.

@Coramus - Oh, no, Boss... you more smarter than me still. Me need to think harder.

@all -- I've noted what IMQiS would like (which he's "claimed" in the gameplay thread).

@Damo - is there going to be any where I can sell IMQiS's muleback cords?

@Coramus (or others) -- could you craft a Handy Haversack for me?

Handy Haversacks for all my men!!!

Seriously... might be a worthwhile investment, even for the strong folk among us. I am finding the more I play, the more I realize how simple and useful they are, even if encumberance is handwaved more often than not. Sometimes it just makes it nice so that we can feel better about handwaving it, which is worth the investment alone IMO.

@Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight: You can sell it back in Waldsby. The townsfolk who are fleeing to the portal could really use some extra carrying capacity, and a 50% discount is too good to refuse!

Sorry about glossing over the house elf. Honestly took my foot off the gas with the You've Won declaration with finishing the tower, leveling up, and sorting loot. Will try to rectify

Also I believe that I misread you post with the curtain. Just thought it was another magic mirror.

upon reflection, we totally should have familiarized ourselves with what the black rider gave us to close the portal. Mistake on our part. Sorry about that. BTW search function is our friend and I should use it more (June 20th when we got the portal closing items). On the other hand not sure if that was a GM inspired bit of back story but I am super impressed with myself for throwing Radoseh's body in the magical circle. So much so that my coworkers have been asking why I have been smirking the last hour or so. Love being a nerd.

I added the bit of back story about the ward. By all indications it was unclear as to whether it would work or not (but it probably shouldn't have gone off). The adventure as written does say that she warded the room so Radosek couldn't go rummaging, so I figured it was appropriate!

No stress about forgetting the keys. They're only your way into the Dancing Hut of Baba Yaga. No biggie.

    FYI, that post is here.

I really liked the flashback when the witch put up the ward in the first place. It again, like some of the others additions did, felt very much like a Final Fantasy 9 Active Time Event, which I thought was very neat.

And on a side note, both keys to the dancing hut are in the wiki, I added them forever ago! But then I forgot about them.

    Ring of Djinni Calling
Ring of Elemental Control (probably not, because it has special rules about how you learn what it does)

Now, why she wouldn't be wearing it, I have no idea. However, I am guessing it is the first.

In any case, it WAY too valuable for us to sell. No one will be able to buy it.

    So, I was right.

Also, I thought I might let this play out longer, but didn't want it to be a total distraction. Just to play out a little of the little guy's psyche.

Hopefully I didn't speak to much for Coramus.

I really liked your work on that post! Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight is such a kleptomaniac, and the way you portray his internal struggle is great. I don't want to speak for Coramus, but from a GM's perspective that didn't look like stepping on anyone's toes, just playing off your own lines. Nice work!

Ok, I am trying to go through a few things, and holy balls there is a lot of good stuff in this loot haul...

Normally I like the idea of just giving gear to whoever it is most useful too, but there is a ton of gold value here and we can use most of it.

I would like to suggest, at least for the pale tower, we go to a "buy from party treasure" type of system. Please please please speak up if you think this is a bad idea...

The main reason is that I don't want some of us to end up with a crazy amount of gear value while others are lacking.

Thoughts? For perspective, the ring of regen is worth 90,000gp. The icicle wand is worth just over 10,000.

It looks like we have just about enough cloaks of resistance and protection rings to make sure those are spread out fairly well.

Anyways... I just want to make sure we get more party input before we go nuts.

Ok - I tried to add a tab to the loot sheet that lists out what each of us are getting, and tried to put stuff where it makes sense. This is obviously subject to change.

Going through the list, it doesn't seem like we are doing a very good job of making sure we actually take all the loot. There are several items where it looks like we have 4 or 5, but I don't know if everyone has them on their sheets or not. I'm not even sure I have everything I said I was going to take on my sheet.

Gaahhh!!! Struggling to keep up with everything it seems lately. I still need to level up Ishbaad.

Long story short - the work I started tonight isn't finished. if it doesn't make sense, just ignore it for now and when I am done I will try to explain what I did. If I am wasting my time doing something we don't want to do, let me know because I am definitely open to a better way... :)

Well yes, I originally chose Charm person to have some out of combat utility. But that's a cheap to learn from a scroll, too. I feel Hold Person is a bit redundant, since Slumber Hex does the same save-or-suck. Hold Person would have edge only against elves. But Mirror Hideaway sounds awesomely thematic (even if weaker version of rope trick), good find that! I hadn't even noticed such spell existed. GM, could I still change the spell?

There's many takers for the INT headband, but who gets it? :)

I hope I get a in game post done later tonight...
