Ready! (So far as I know)

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I am wanting... but not ready. Pesky thing of buying a house, we are penny pinching and I can't bring myself to buy the .pdf when my wife is telling me all the things she is not buying. I will get there soon I hope.

GM Damo |

By the way, I've got a lot on tomorrow (my wife's taking a day off and we're doing some serious exterior and interior design work on the house). I will get the chance to post intermittently on my phone, but I won't have the time I'd like to devote to all games.
As such, I will not make any GM posts or (likely) even read player posts on Reign of Winter from 7am CDT to 7pm CDT. I will try my best to manage at least 1-2 posts during that time on the other games.
Thanks all,
Damien.

Jorvik_RoW |

Though that I'd move this to the discussion thread, so I have 2 characters currently in play with reach, and another that just came online with reach. You all are so much more versed than I in rules so I was reading:
So as a standard action, I cannot attack Yeti, but I can attack yeti as an AoO if it moves, or casts a spell, or otherwise provokes.
Is that correct?
Sorry Damien, hope the work is going well :)

![]() |

Jorvik, maybe I musunderstood where you wanted to be. On the splat is 15' from the yeti... 1 square N of the splat, and you'd be fine.

Jorvik_RoW |

Yep phone and all. Thanks!

GM Damo |

Thank you for your patience and posts today all! It was raining cats 'n' dogs here in Houston, so we only did the interior work. Got it all done! Just as well we didn't try to do both. ;-)
Back to normal from now.

GM Damo |

Sorry for the delays guys, the lodge has a lot in it and it's turning out to be a big post. I'm half way through it, but won't have enough time to finish it off until tonight. I'll keep up with the other games... it'll just take a while to get this out.
Feel free to keep roleplaying!
632 in the line.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I am out of time tonight, but I will work on it tomorrow after work... (the loot list...) holy cats that is a lot all at once. Obviously the writer intended us to storm the castle... :)

Kuragin Kseniya |

I put most of the stuff into the loot sheet, didn't look up prices for everything, and there's some lines that need to be split.

GM Damo |

Thank you! I'll hopefully have some more time tonight.
Speaking of, yeah sorry about my lack of posting today and last night. The lights in the bathroom went out in spectacular fashion, so I was rewiring the lights this morning. Complete success, but still had to make a few trips to Home Depot to get the right tools and parts. I think I would make a better electrician than the lazy f*cker who wired up our house. Unbelievable.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

That sucks man.... I hate wiring. It terrifies me. It is satisfying when you get it done and do it right though... I haven't had any time today, I hope to have some time tonight to help finish up the loot list! Loots of goodies in there... and I want to know how much money I can spend! :)

Damien Wilmann |

Yeah. Luckily the breakers are all labeled and I've got myself a healthy sense of paranoia (and a voltage tester). Not to mention two semesters of electrical engineering. ;-)
As for character cash... I'm not sure how much it'll be in the end, but please put in some wish list items if you like. Make it a separate sheet on the spreadsheet so I can find them. I'll try to include them where appropriate in the hordes. Man I love being unchained from PFS.
The cloak of the yeti is way cool. It can be easily resized, too - if, for example, a small character wants it.

First, a reminder, that Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight can brew potions and craft alchemical tools/weapons. We should definitely take advantage of this! 1/3 cost alchemical weapons and 1/2 price potions are nothing to sneeze at. This being said, this is the only type of magical creation he can do, since alchemists are not spellcasters, so technically do not have a casting level (like for creating wands, etc).
Second, you will probably soon see my name all over anything Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight can carry/use... that's the goblin in him, so feel free to override those "claims". In fact PLEASE DO!

Aoife Limerick |

Alright Santa, Aoife has filled out her christmas list :)

Jorvik_RoW |

Picked up the agile breastplate then ran out of time.

Kuragin Kseniya |

I can take one the MW crossbows, best sell the magical. Also took one of the CLW wands so they all are not one one character. Maybe it would be best to give the CMW potions to frontliners (Aoife?) and spread the CLW potions to everyone.
Put something on the wishlist. Haven't really played casters, so not quite sure what would I want...

Damien Wilmann |

GM Damo |

By the way, since things are heating up in Test of Tar Kuata, I'm going to take things easy and not push too hard on this thread until that last battle is over.
Just some reminders:
- The is a Map of Heldren that includes all the locations you know about.
- Ionna Teppen is the mayor and would mostly likely appreciate a report on what happened and the wintry occurrence in general.
- You have two prisoners in tow and will need to deal with them in some way.
- Ten-Penny is also with you. Lady Argentea has pardoned her (she was satisfied with the soup and the pudding - a lovely raisin and date affair). Yes, she does have the authority to do that (mostly since she was the wronged party... but also because she is currently the highest ranking noble in the area).
- PFS rules apply for upgrading masterwork (and magical) weapons and armor.
Some additional stuff for gearing up and selling loot:
- Please do feel free to roleplay the buying and selling of stuff. We won't do this every time, but this is a small town, so not everything is available.
- Isker has finished crafting (though hand-waves, etc) a masterwork cold iron longspear to sell to Ishbaad.
- Old Mother Theodora has craft magical arms and armor as well as craft wondrous item. She takes commissions (full price, and it takes a while based on cost).
- A number of the NPCs around town have magic items they're willing to get rid of. Roleplaying will reveal these. If that becomes tedious, I'll add them to the loot spreadsheet under a "town loot" tab or something. Just let me know.
- Isker is expecting a merchant caravan from Zimar on the morrow. They are always interested in purchasing arms and armor (and buy quite a bit from Isker himself). They will have enough gold to buy any military items you like. They have been traveling all around, and have a good selection of arms and armor for you to buy from them. Let's say they happen to have anything mundane (including masterwork) you like from the core rules, and some stuff from other sources, such as Ultimate Equipment, as well (I will decide if it's in or out). They are on their way to Oppara to sell big in the markets, so the more you have to sell them for half price and the more you want to buy for full price, the better (as far as they're concerned).
To roleplay transactions, many trades and other things will occur. I don't find it realistic for a small-town smith (for example) to have thousands of gold on him. He (and others) can act as intermediaries. For that to work realistically, there will be a few days' delay before you get the items you want, but I don't want to penalize you because the adventure doesn't have you near Oppara (or some other big city). By the same token, I don't want to break (the fake) reality.
As a once off, for selling any items that belonged to her guards or any of her own gear that you recovered, Lady Argentea has an offer for you. You may keep anything you like, or she will buy it back from you for half price. All of this is as a reward for rescuing her (and additional to any other reward she may give you). She will pay you half price as part of the reward whether you say "sell" or not (ie. for roleplaying purposes, you can just give it back to her and your reward will be increased an appropriate amount).
For anyone roleplaying a big transaction (1,000 gp / character level or more) I will allow a diplomacy check for a discount (or better sale) as per the Ultimate Campaign rules: Bargaining. You must roleplay it out in order to take the benefits of this feature, and if you over-use it we'll get bogged won. So, please only do so for your bigger transactions.
I will always give you 100% of the stated value for gems, artwork and other items with no functional value. I assume the number listed is what the PCs can sell them for (or, in the case of gems, they are simply a weight-efficient method for converting your wealth).

GM Damo |

Hey all. We're kinda stalled here at the moment. Just wanted to check to see if it was because of time committed to the other games or because you're not sure what to do or perhaps you're having trouble absorbing all the information and getting back into it.
Let me know and I'll do what I can to help. If you're busy, please do at least try to check in every 24 hours, even if it's a "nothing" post (though I prefer it if it's a post that keeps things moving, of course).
If it helps, we can do all the loot selling and buying out of character and just move on with the plot.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I know for me I have just had a hard time putting the extra effort into the game, but it is just temporary. Partially because of the rush we were putting into the test game, and mostly because of all the chaos my real life is in right now. I will have time tonight, and I was planning on catching up properly, sorting out loot and starting to get some longer term ideas for where I am taking this character mechanically.
Ishbaad is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters to play behind Cyrus, I am been lamenting that I haven't been able to put in the time for the thought and development lately that they deserve. I will be back at it soon enough :)

There are a few reasons I haven't been posting much... but I'll be back on it tomorrow.
GM Damo - are we going to have time to do some crafting, and such? I'll be brewing some potions, and doing some alchemy if we do.
Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight will, for sure, be talking to the alchemist in town... hoping to learn some new extracts!
Gotta say I am enjoying playing my little fellow as well.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Just like always.... Just as I was getting started, I get pulled away. I altered the loot document. Everything highlighted in blue, we keep. everything highlighted in green we sell/trade. I have been working on a post for selling and trading, as well as responding to the mayor and others for coming back, but its taking some time, and I haven't had enough to finish it properly. I plan to get it up tonight... Hopefully it isn't to much of a wall of text :)

Aoife Limerick |

I'll have a post up tonight for Aoife and her purchases, if I can ever decide what to get her. Yesterday and today have been busy, meeting up with family and attending a funeral. Everything is ok, there are just obligations to fit in and attend to. I expect to be caught up tonight though.
I'm totally with Ishbaad and IMQiS, the toons in this game have become my favorites (after Ibid, of course), I can't wait to see where this story goes and what character development continues for everyone!

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Ok - went a little above and beyond on the loot sheet. I created a worksheet for myself so I could keep track of the stuff I wanted to take from the loot haul, what I wanted to buy, and what I wanted to sell from the gear I already had.
I will not be insulted if you want to copy it and use it for yourself. There are some very simple formulas in there that make it useful when you are figuring out how much you are going to be "spending"
Hopefully I can make this post make sense...
Edit: Ishbaad will be suggesting to IMQiS some of the things that he should be sharing, just as requested Jack :)

Jorvik_RoW |

Honestly, I have done you and this AP a disservice. I always think of things to say and do but never get around to posting them here in a timely fashion. In truth, the next few week or two will be nuts, and I hope to settle into a better routine here.
As far as how the AP is set up and run - perfect.
I just need more time ....

GM Damo |

So, crafting...
I was hoping the unchained PRD would be out by now, but it's not. As mentioned a while back, we will be using unchained crafting.
Alchemist's fire is a complex item. It is a DC 20 craft check per day, making 4 gp progress per day, or 8 gp on a roll of 25+, or 12 gp on 30+, etc. If you roll below 20, you make no progress. If you roll below 15, you waste components.
Tess's lab gives you +2 for crafting alchemical items and you can take 10. She will aid another for you during the day (I know it's not technically within the rules) giving you a further +2.
If you don't have Pathfinder Unchained, I'll copy out the relevant sections for you.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

That last interaction about the formula book... Awesome. And Coramus? Hilarious! Cracking up over here...
-Posted with Wayfinder

![]() |

I have it, was just confirming. Actually, aid another is allowed from up to two assistants

Coramus Thallon |

Giving an old lady a good time is certainly worth 250 gold pieces, for sure.

GM Damo wrote:I believe you are right on the take 10... since it does not explicitly prohibit it. However, potions can be brewed with Craft: Alchemy instead of Spellcraft. That being said, I will abide by you ruling!Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight wrote:Actually, see above -- he was making potions. For the DC6 potions, his minimum roll is 9, I believe. 10 if his alchemy class ability applies.Oops! Sorry about that. Yep. 6 potions ahoy. Got too obsessed by the crafting rules. :-) Your alchemy ability doesn't apply (since potions are not alchemical items), but you can take 10 on the check (I believe).
Rules as written say the following:
- Alchemist's can use craft (alchemy) in place of spellcraft for potions only to identify potions.
- Potion creation rules allow craft (alchemy) to be used as the check - just like crafting magical weapons allows a craft (bows) or craft (weapons) to be used - in addition to spellcraft.
- Potions are a type of magical item.
- Alchemical items are type of mundane item (full list here).
- Alchemy ability: "When using Craft (alchemy) to create an alchemical item, an alchemist gains a competence bonus equal to his class level on the Craft (alchemy) check".
I can't find anywhere that suggests a potion is covered under the "alchemical item" description. If you can find precedence anywhere, I'm happy to change my ruling on this.
Mostly, it has an effect on speeding up the crafting of your mundane alchemical items, as a higher check results means more progress. You'll generally be able to succeed by just taking 10 on any magic item you make anyway - unless you are missing some of the prerequisites or accelerating item creation to 4 hours (and even then).
Do keep in mind that, during the regular course of an adventure, you can make 2 hours' progress towards potions, etc, by spending 4 hours a day on it (still gives you 8 horus to walk, 8 hours to sleep and 4 hours to eat, chat and adventure). This is enough to create 1 low-level potion per day. You just need the ingredients.

![]() |

It is all good!
Thanks!
How do you want to handle the gaining of ingredients? Just have me spend the money for specific spells?

Ishbaad the Chosen |

Just for the record - the reading.... freakin awesome. what a cool way to foreshadow while still staying vague with things we mostly have an idea of already. Very cool touch. Hopefully my response did it justice...

GM Damo |

Glad you liked the Harrowing - it's one of my favorite roleplaying mechanics when done right (usually when done by my friend who you'll meet at GenCon) and one of the worst when done wrong (done by another friend of ours who can't GM on the fly to save his life). Glad you think I erred on the side of the former. ;-)
LOOT
I was going to finalize the loot sheet, but I think we need to address the following first:
- Who gets the cloak of the yeti?
- There are 9 vials of alchemist's fire and 2 oils of magic weapon yet to be distributed (at the bottom of the list).
- Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight has still got his claim staked in on a lot of stuff. Remember, he's a goblin and will need to have his knuckles rapped occasionally as he grabs for things. Jack has been very nice in writing notes next to some of his "acquisitions" with suggestions on who should get it. If you don't claim it off him, Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight gets to keep it until you roleplay it off him on the thread during the normal course of the adventure.
I'll give you guys a couple more days, but I really don't want to adjust the gold totals. To that end, you all get 1,543 gp (minus your recent purchases).
PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU CLAIM SOMETHING THAT CURRENTLY HAS A GOLD VALUE IN THE LIQUIDATED VALUE COLUMN.

GM Damo |

Sorry if this is slightly out of place! I had it on my mind and didn't want to miss the opportunity to post it... Please don't let this stop you from posting about the reading!!!
By the way, never apologize for awesome rolepalying. Loved the post, would love to see more like it.

Fire? Fire?
I know who wants ALL the fire. Will update when I get to work.

Jorvik_RoW |

Pedestrian upgrades:
Armor -> MW -> +1 for 1,150
Hammer -> MW for 300
93 left for misc items.

GM Damo |

Looks good. Elder Natharen at the Temple of Erastil has the time to handle that armor upgrade for you in return for that lovely donation. You can't upgrade regular items to masterwork items, but for 75gp more, we'll say you got a discount from the Zimar merchants in return for some songs and tales.

Jorvik_RoW |

Also, doing an edit in the only time I have today - lots of mistakes.
Perception is +5
Raging Song is 5/5
Also, I updated my skills. With the new armor all Str and Dex skills changed - Agile give me different Climb and Acrobatics (Jump)

![]() |

At this point, I am noting everything that Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight has "claimed" on his character sheet. If someone else wants something has taken, just post (in character) and he'll likely give it to you.
FYI - it is really impossible to see who posted comments, so perhaps it would be better to add comments to a field (with the Insert Comments, like I have done on a couple).
Note: I am not denying the comments made, in fact they are pretty astute. Just someone should either claim them directly, or just say something. Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight is a good goblin, and understands teamwork. But he also thinks that everything has a use, and will make use of things!

GM Damo |

Updated your perception in my stat blocks. No problems about the mistakes, it happens!
Love the comments, Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight, but I get an email for every one. For some reason, I can't disable that in the notification rules. They're also hard to spot in the document (just a tiny colored corner). Just use the notes section and put your initials in front.
eg. DW: Weren't you going to give this to someone who uses intimidate?
Which brings us back to the cloak of the yeti. Currently, Coramus has the only claim to it. We can leave it at that if you like, but the +2 on intimidate checks could be more useful in Ishbaad's hands. There are plenty of other ways to get endure elements and +1 natural armor.
Totally up to you guys, and it is currently with Coramus by default.
Anyway, I'd like to wait for a "bye bye Heldren" post from everyone, but I will push things along come late morning / midday CDT.

Ishbaad the Chosen |

I would like to claim the cloak, I hadn't mentioned it because I didn't want to be too greedy... :) The pro ring is probably best on Aoife... I'll get a goodbye post up soon

Since life has been a bit busy lately, it's taken me a while to comment on the harrowing session. I wanted to make sure and voice the fact that the harrowing was really neat and totally awesome. Super-duper cool, man! I loved it!
