So I know I thought this earlier, but it looks like I didn't post it. We could still use aoife, icy, and jorvik to scout the barn before we kick the door in...

Visited a museum today, and they had a megaloceros on display there. I immediately started to have much more respect for Onyx :)
GM Damo
Heh. Yeah, apparently 10+ft of antlers when you include the antlers according to his bestiary entry. Crazy.
Also, sorry for getting around to this last, boys. Alphabetical order is a bummer and I've only had brief snatches of time today (in part, due to my morning being abruptly cut off by a black-out).
Jorvik_RoW
Ok, so are we going in guns blazing? I am all for Ice chucking some fire and Burn Baby Burn.
Also, I am not sure about drinking the Enlarge. That with rage is going to give me some pretty terrible AC.
GM Damo
Burn, Baby, Burn would most likely kill the faun and the twigjack, leaving the faster quicklings relatively unscathed. Killing the faun would go against Maret's request (she believes her son is not capable of this). If it is indeed a faun (and not a satyr), they are typically good aligned creatures.
Just letting you know the implications is all.
Ishbaad the Chosen
I love what just happend in Ishbaad's head - All in one moment everything that Jorvik and Kuragin has said about the harshness of the north coelesced into a sudden realization of what was going on, and why they were vulnerable for it.
So that made me search the map to decide where I thought the most likely place they might be to stage the ambush based on that knowledge. If I am right, it won't matter because of my miss chance roll, but it was fun to go through that realization as a player, particularly because it was so organic.
GM Damo
Wow. Talk about mega post.
I don't know how else to have avoided that while still being fair to all of you.
Also, technically, I guess you couldn't ready actions because we weren't officially in combat rounds. I didn't want to just say "no you can't", though, because you totally should be able to. That said, getting jumped is surprising so I felt the initiative thing was the fairest way.
I think next time, I might get you to post more than a single round's actions but I honestly thought it would go down like this:
Round 1: Kick the door down.
Round 2: Storm the barn.
Round 3: Get locked inside the barn and commence burninating.
Still, this won't be an easy fight. Good luck!
Jorvik_RoW
All good GM. I hate these guys and was all for saying too bad so sad, but let us see what we can do.
The progression was fair and organized, just hate that we missed and I blew 2 rounds of rage for naught.
Ishbaad the Chosen
Dangit Jorvik.
I +1 you for a second time....
I'm going to get paranoid that people think I am just agreeable (I am) and don't think for myself (I don't really... maybe a little)
Aoife Limerick
I just wanted to say I'm loving this combat so far. I'm not sure that Aoife can even help in anyway against these badies, but it seems like this is going to be one heck of a tough, but super fun, fight.
GM Damo
Glad you're liking it. I quite enjoy the tactics of the situation where these bastards have 120ft of movement and spring attack. At least the snow means they can't just stand still once they're out of sight.
... also, at least I realize they are visible when moving (unlike the last GM to throw them at me).
The CR is as per the adventure, but I'm pulling out all the stops on you guys here.
Jorvik_RoW
Ishbaad - here is another perfect opportunity to agree. Seize the day my friend!

+1
(-1 since I can't seem to spout these things off first. For craps sake.)
Aoife Limerick
Zzababa Will save (end of her turn): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 --FFS
@ GM Damo: quick question. What does FFS stand for in your last post (quoted above)? I assume I should already know this, whoops :)
Ishbaad the Chosen
Let's just say that fcs would be for craps sake. Fps would be for Pete's sake... You get the idea

That's good to know, I'm glad I'm not the only one that was new to. Thanks, dude.
I was thinking... Failed Fort Save? No, that was a Will save... Then I honestly just assumed it was some pathfinder/tabletop-rpg type acronym. My mind would never have went to or guessed- For Flip's Sake :)
But I got it now and I can't wait to see what happens in this combat!

I predict fire.
Hopefully Aiofe can get the faun out. If she has to pick him up and carry him over her shoulder, I think you should do this. With Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight around, this barn doesn't stand much of a chance.

and it is about time that Damien failed a save against one of my PC's abilities!!!
It is no wonder that Gunari doesn't use attack spells any more!
GM Damo
Wow. Just one or two lower rolls on damage from you guys (especially on those bombs) and that could have gone a completely different way. As it was, nice work all!
I hope you enjoyed that one. Tactically, it was one of my favorites (even if I did completely ignore the tactics as written).
Jorvik_RoW
Honestly I have nothing for this woman. Ready to head out and chat more with our companion who was searching for the black rider. Will post later today
Jorvik_RoW
Shit. Don't want to step on Aoife's toes here with that big reveal. I will save my post to let him interact. Here is a brief one.
Aoife Limerick
No worries, I was able to sneak in Aoife's post just before yours and Ishbaad's.
Also, holy crap!
@ GM Damo: awesome job and nice reveal. I was on the edge of my seat reading at my computer. It was awesome to not know anything about what was going to happen with her father!

Please read the gameplay thread first!

It's kind of a downer in real life trying to RP what a child would go through hearing news that [redacted]. Then, trying to roleplay it. Wow, yeah, fun to RP but also draining in a way. Trying to process what one's toon would think, say, feel in a situation like that is what makes PbP completely amazing. There would never have been an emotional experience like that a table (for me at least).

So, none of what I just posted was meant to detract from Aoife's sorrow.,. as much of anything it was a quick delve into goblin motivations... trying to humanize Ice's kin, perhaps explain why they were how they were. That, and to show why he deeply cares for her, and how he can empathize. Hope you all liked it as much as I liked the reveal and Aoife's reactions.
GM Damo
Glad you liked the turn of events. I wanted to say more after, but thought it best to leave it at that for now. Hope my follow-up post helps a little.
Also, would never have even tried such an emotional scene before the days of PbP. Too hard to do on the tabletop. Such a fan of this format.
It contains some surprises for Aoife, and I will reveal those at appropriate times. I hope that's okay. Let me know if you'd rather devour it all in one sitting and I can then just spill the beans on the interesting bits.

Awesome! I love the idea of the journal from Tighearnán. I'm totally cool with us filling it in as we go, and I can even help with some of the entries. I'm super excited to learn what secrets get revealed from his notes as we go. I'm really digging the reveal, build up, and that it was such a huge plot point for Aoife along her journey. Now I need to figure out how this will alter her from here forward.
Awesome job, dude!

@Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight: We're in Whitethrone now, and I had planed a bit of background interaction for you and Coramus. However, much of it began with Coramus's stuff... but we won't get to that now. We're also trying to get through book 2 relatively quickly, and I'm loathe to slow things down by inserting background tie-ins over plot.
Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight's tie to Whitethrone isn't as strong as some of the others, but if you would like to insert buddies of yours or flashback to events or whatever, I will do my best to incorporate it into what is going on.
@Kuragin and Jorvik: Please do feel free to also insert bits of background tie-ins in here once we reach Whitethrone proper. Have family members appear out of the woodwork (ie. try to see them if you like) or just talk about bits of your past as you wander around town.
I have things planned for you two in book 6. It's a long wait, I know, but because of <redacted> and <redacted> and <oh, so redacted>, it's the best spot.
@Ishbaad: Oh, wouldn't you like to know.

Hello!
Is it me you're looking for?
I can see it in your eyes
I can see it in your smile
You're all I've ever wanted
And my arms are open wide
'cause you know just what to post
You won't need to fight a ghost,
Just talk to a winter wolf
Who loves you
Welcome back to the post-vacation/holiday regular weekdays! Please remember I'd like to kick up the pace on this one. If you can post twice daily, that'd be awesome. I will try my best to post at least 3 times a day (if there are posts to respond to), including once at night (which will be some time between 7:00pm and 8:30pm central).

Got it ran out of time but will have multiple posts in today.

When will a situation like this ever come up again? The only thing I truly lament is that it wasn't Cyrus.
Come to think of it, Cyrus suddenly has a strange, irresistable urge to find a rimepelt and spend some time in the howlings district.
For better or for worse, Ishbaad is all over this. Once in a lifetime opportunity here. (he says about an imaginary game in a fantasy setting)

Ok so in the process of catching up I am super behind. What exactly are our goals here in whitethrone?
I for one would like to visit a market or two. Going to carve out some time to look at the loot sheet and do some character crunch planning.

I think specifically we want the keys to Baba Yaga's car.
Ishbaad the Chosen
Hopefully we get the Porsche :)
We have keys to her hut, which is on lockdown I believe in the center of the city.
I don't know how much investigation we can do on the missing baba yaga here, but we can see what the people know. Unless I misunderstood something, our goal here is to get into the hut. I need to go back to the posts and re read so I have a good handle on it.

I'm sorry, I was mistaken and you're exactly right Ishbaad. We have the keys to Baba Yaga's autonomous driving car, and we want to steal that bad boy from within Whitethrone.
GM Damo
First step is to see Ringeirr's friend, Solveig Ayrdahl (a secret cleric of Milani and a Herald of Summer's Return). Then she'll acquaint you with the city, and set you on the path to the Dancing Hut. First, though, gotta get through the Howlings district, so I just need a little about your S.O.P for walking down the streets.

Hrmm.... If it isn't a quick "pass through" like I ass-u-me-d it was, (see what I did there? When you assume you... scratch that) then perhaps you should wait for me to... ah... finish up here with the nice guard lady...
heh...
sorry, now I am holding the whole group up for my own selfish reasons... as far as you know... :D
That is unless Kuragin and Jorvik have enough clout to keep you from being bothered to much, and hopefully Ishbaad has enough time on the cloak to make it through the district before the magic wears off.
In general, I would think we would want to act just like we talked about earlier. Kuragin and Jorvik are the nobility and we are their subservient troupe of their current passing fancy. Once the magic of the rimepelt wears off, Ishbaad, Aoife, and IMQiS all keep their mouths shut, Jorvik and Kuragin do all the talking.
Additionally, once I don't get to be a winter wolf anymore, Ishbaad will spend all of his time with the hood of the yeti cloak on his head. Looking like a yeti is likely better than looking like an Oread at this point. Holy symbols and such will remain hidden to avoid unneccessary questions and detainments. I'll put my holy symbol and holy text in my bag of holding II so that if somehow, someone finds it and asks questions, I can lie and say I took it off the body of an Iomedaen priest.
Hopefully that is all the info you need from me. Let me know otherwise if you need something else.
Ishbaad the Chosen
Ok - So hopefully that didn't turn out actually super weird and awkward.
Anyways - I couldn't help but think of one of my favorite quotes from the Dead Alewives - "Okay, but if there's are any girls there, I wanna DO them!"
Its happened across 3 different games/characters now. I guess I am just that guy.
hehehehe /awkward chuckle
Ishbaad the Chosen
I kinda blew my intimidate roll there - As a player I hope I'm not frustrating anyone or working against the group and what you want to do.
I also wouldn't mind the fight, seems like it could be fun :) Though intimidating them into tucking their tails and running would be just as much fun.
Then again, what good is a fun toy that lets you shape shift into a winter wolf if you don't get a good fight out of it, right? Right?
Bueller?
*crickets*
/sheepish grin
Ishbaad the Winter Wolf
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19 I used my stats for my intimidate check. Not sure how that should work. If I incorporate my skill along with the Winter Wolf's physical stats, the intimidate would jump from 7 to 8 (difference in charisma). Feel free to rule it how you think it should go - it was a pretty average roll anyways.
Ok - I re-read the beast shape IV spell - seems I was approaching this from the wrong mental direction, hence some of my confusion.
So my Intimidate check wouldn't change, because my stats don't change to match the wolf. They stay the same, except as affected per the spell.
So Strength becomes 28 (maaaaan I wish I had the intimidating prowess feat...)
Dex becomes 10
Constitution becomes 16
My AC is where it potentially becomes tricky. The spell says you gain a +6 natural armor bonus. I already have a +2 natural armor bonus.
I'm guessing it doesn't stack. If not, Ishbaad's AC in wolf form is 25 (12 touch 24 FF)
If it does stack, then its 27/12/26
I will endeavor to put a stat line and relavant information in the alternate alias here as soon as I can to hopefully make life easier, especially if we are about to get in a fight.
Ice Melts Quietly in Sunlight
|
Ishbaad... If your +2 comes from an amulet (or barkskin), then it is an enhancement bonus to natural armor, and would stack. Otherwise, it would not.
Ishbaad the Winter Wolf
Ok - So this is why I like Hero Lab so much - It allows me to not think.
It is also the drawback, becuase I so often forget where certain bonuses come from.
So here is the skinny. +1 Natural armor is from my racial alternate ability, which wouldn't stack. The other +1 is from the yeti cloak, which I obviously can't wear at the same time as the rimepelt.
This brings my AC to 24/11/23 (a net gain of 3) (I also forgot that the -2 dex knocks down my AC by 1 as well, which is accounted for in the above slash line)
Still working though the profile so I get it right. GM Damo - you are (obviously) welcome to check things over too once I get it finished.
GM Damo
All good. I'll hold off on starting combat until you're up-to-date.
As I noted on Isle of Dread, I'm flat out like a lizard drinking (that's 'very busy' in Australian) today and tomorrow, so I'm happy to slow it down just a little. I'll still try for at least 2 posts tomorrow (and hopefully one tonight) to keep things moving - but this is likely to be the only game to get such attention.
Ishbaad the Winter Wolf
I think I got it.
Had to do some mental stretching... I will see if I can use Hero Lab to verify what I have tonight.
I feel pretty confident though that the numbers are good.
