Sorry for continued lack of activity. Things have been happening which is a rather unusual state of affairs to me. I hope to be able to follow more actively again soon.

Connor of McIntyre |

Well, I came home from work to find my house has been without power for 3 days. Ice storm in central North Carolina. Trees down. Power down. Might not be back up until Thursday the 13th. But the temperature is supposed to be 70F today.
Good thing I have my work laptop and a Verizon MiFi device. And a "battery meant for long transcontinental airplane flights". I should be good checking in every couple of hours.

Connor of McIntyre |

Given we have two days to do stuff, do we need to do any crafting? Any Psionic Tattoos from Reaghar?

Connor of McIntyre |

My electrical power is back on and my RoadRunner Internet is good to go. Despite a return of the icy weather outside.

Connor of McIntyre |

No problem, mdt. You tell a good story, so far.
Here's hoping the snow forecast for North Carolina doesn't impede my posts on Tuesday, 25 March.
Incidentally, what seems to be Vuomik's main export as a frontier town?

Elrohir |

Would Flick flying inside the city be a bad idea? Obviously they have problems with dragonlings, but would he be a target?
If it seems like he would be, he very well might opt to spend most of his time outside the city, save to sleep.

Connor of McIntyre |

Hard to believe Dreamscarred Press has had Psionics Unleashed since 2010. I'm saving up for Ultimate Psionics.

mdt |

I've officially moved Alister's character to 'Former Character' for the game, it's been 3 months, and he's not returned. Going forward, we'll assume he's been reassigned once you get back to Atalantia.

Connor of McIntyre |

Awwwww....I was hoping the meatshield would rejoin us.

Connor of McIntyre |

We were playing that you stayed back in the inn, Selvan took off on his own, and I don't know where Elrohir went. It was Sam, Alys, and Connor taking the initiative on some additional work. But you can be with us if you wish. :)
Pretty much the only reason I'm looking for this side trip is #1 XP, since we're not of a level yet that lets us craft "on the go". I know Reaghar has his "tattoo kits" (200 gp's worth?), but the rest of us have squat at Level 2. Plus, we're at a frontier town, and the gp level is rather low for crafting purposes.
Although if Vuomik has an Alchemist store, maybe I should get some Alchemist's Fire and Tanglefoot Bags. Those are always good at our level.
Any suggestions? Before we find out this old tiger is holed up in an abandoned ruby mine with 6 ogre mages and a red juvenile dragon guarding the entrance.

Connor of McIntyre |

Ready to move on? Shopping before searching? Roping, uh, convincing Selvan and Elrohir to join us?

Sammark Bellefont |

Sorry busy weekend.
Sam needs a mount, so the rest of the day for him will be taken up with that. If Connor wants to grab Selvan and Elrohir, I certainly won't protest.

mdt |

There are potions for sale in the town.
There are horses (Zebras) for sale as well.
I've not moved on because I was waiting for people to post (Elrohir, Alys, etc). Plus, I'll need to know if you're flying above the treetops or walking. If you fly below the tree tops, there are no search bonuses. If you fly above, you get bonus's to search, but are also visible to any thing else flying or watching for flying things.

Connor of McIntyre |

Given the attitude of the town, I'd like to not fly until we're out of sight of Vuomik. The map isn't too specific (should we buy a better map?), but Connor can do the flying-above-the-treetops thing with 2 or 3 Astral Constructs as arrow fodder.

Connor of McIntyre |

As much as I would like for Connor to get a Handy Haversack or even a Bag of Holding Type I, I'm going to play his cultural paranoia about magical items and their tendency to go -BOOM-. The single CLW potion he's holding from the Savannah Fight notwithstanding, Connor's still "clean" when he gets back to the Ashen Edge.
Just remember, Hidden Pocket is Cryptic1, so if Reaghar hasn't picked it up already then Connor's going to have to wait to get it with Expanded Knowledge after he's Level 7 or so. The same with Animal Affinity (Cryptic/Egoist/PW/Vitalist 2), which is also looking like a "crafting prerequisite". :)
There's just so many gooood powers at Level 1 and Level 3 it almost makes you want to take Leadership and get a Cohort just so you can multi-class them for the low-level power spread.

Connor of McIntyre |

Everybody okay? I've got my monthly "working weekend" coming up, but I should be able to post without any problems. It's been quiet here the last couple of days.

Elrohir |

Since I never got a response to whether or not flying in the city would be a bad idea, Flick probably would be flying just outside during the day. Not too far to be outside the reach of the city and its defenses, but also not so close as to bother the townsfolk.

Connor of McIntyre |

I was going to have Connor find Elrohir and Selvan during the afternoon/evening and invite them along.

Connor of McIntyre |

Do we need to send out a post like "Hey, we're about to start up a mini-mission now! Come post daily again!" or something?

mdt |

That may be the case, Alys, but I was asking direct questions and getting no answers. So I will just make decisions for people when I post tonight. If people don't like the decisions I make, then perhaps next time they will actually post answers to my questions when I post them.

Connor of McIntyre |

Good to see you back, Flick.
I've always wanted to be in a game with other psionics who had psicrystals for watch duty. I've got the only psicrystal here, but between him and a construct, I think we only need one person awake at a time.
Hero = all night
Construct = every 4 hours (3 per night)
Watches are two hours each for 12 hours total?
1st - Sam
2nd -
3rd -
4th - Alys
5th -
6th - Connor

Connor of McIntyre |

Hmmm....looking at the book online, I see
Powers and Power Points
"...To regain used daily power points, a psionic character must have a clear mind. To clear his mind, he must first sleep for 8 hours. The character does not have to slumber for every minute of the time, but he must refrain from movement, combat, manifesting powers, skill use, conversation, or any other demanding physical or mental task during the rest period. If his rest is interrupted, each interruption adds 1 hour to the total amount of time he has to rest to clear his mind, and he must have at least 1 hour of rest immediately prior to regaining lost power points. If the character does not need to sleep for some reason, he still must have 8 hours of restful calm before regaining power points. If a psionic character has manifested powers recently, the drain on his resources reduces his capacity to regain power points. When he regains power points for the coming day, all power points he has used within the last 8 hours count against his daily limit."
You seem to be right, Monkeygod/Elrohir/Flick. By Rules As Written, Connor would either need 2 more hours of sleep for the 2 Astral Constructs he manifested during the night and 8 uninterrupted hours to boot, or forgo 2 power points the next morning.
But this would be the same as interrupting a psion with a battle in the middle of the night. The psion would have to get 8 hours following the battle, be it at midnight or 4 am. (Obviously this is more of a problem for us low-level adventurers, as losing 2-3 pp would be less valuable at higher levels.)
So what do you think, move Alys to the 3rd 2-hour shift, with Connor on the 4th 2-hour shift so he can sleep in late for 4 hours to get a continuous 8 hours each night? If nothing happens each night, Connor's only losing 2 points out of 11 each night. This is going to be a problem until Connor is 8th Level, with his Utility durations lasting 9 hours.
If everyone wants Connor at full psionic power points, he will forgo the 2nd and 3rd Astral Construct during the night. Hero the psicrystal can still provide the watch a little company, and a second Perception check.
This is why my spellcasters always get a Ring of Sustenance as soon as they can afford it.

Connor of McIntyre |

So I found out that my Astral Construct doesn't have a digging option under Menu A, B, or C, or even in the Advanced menu options. Bummer. Here's the difference between astral constructs and summoned monsters. I could get a shovel for myself with Call Item, or make one for somebody else with Ectomplasmic Creation, but it would only last 2 hours. mdt's indicated we can squeeze into the tunnel, so it would only leave us dirty and scraped a little bit to get to where Hero's found the underground chamber.
We've looked around, and we haven't seen any other way inside to where this Snowcoat went to. I'm pretty confident Hero has scouted ahead so we don't run headfirst into any monsters. I can always make a construct to go first down the tunnel, in case that gap is bigger than described.
Do we need to tie a rope to each other, or just start wiggling down the tunnel?
