Connor = line of sight (torch is 20 + 20, so 40 feet max)
Alys = 100 ft range with her mind bolt
Reaghar = 30 ft range with his black ray
Sammark = his Energy Ray has a range of 25 + 5 feet
Selvan is strictly melee (along with Connor)

So it looks like once the astral constructs are in order, it should be Sam, Reaghar, Connor, Selvan, with Alys firing over everybody's heads.

I was planning on having one astral construct walloping on each ball of light, with one at the corner to keep any balls of light from flying at us, and the flying construct as a 10-ft blocker to the first living person in line (Sam). Once the balls of light destroy the constructs, they'll have to line up in that corridor, with three people firing various rays and bolts at them. Connor would be making new constructs, and Selvan can coordinate or heal as needed.

Now that we have a plan, it's up to the dicebot to make us roll all 1's for the battle. (You think I'm kidding.)

My bad, Alys; I thought you had chosen the small, long-range bolt gun from your description ("The long range bolt form is the smallest of forms and deals 1d6 points of damage and has a 100 ft. range increment.") From your profile page I see your damage is 1d10+5, meaning you chose the short-range bolt ("the short range bolt form is the largest and heaviest form and deals 1d10 points of damage with a 20 ft. range increment.").

So you've got a 20-ft range increment. In which case, we're better off with a "fan spread" of our three ranged attackers (Alys, Sammark, Reaghar), since the "lightning-bolt formation" is going to leave somebody out.

So the order would be Sam, Reaghar, Alys, Selvan, Connor. Which is why I need Hero the psicrystal to tell me what's going on up front.

Well the description is supposed to allure to a really large revolver, think alucard from hellsing size guns but on a person who is not big and superpowered enough to wield it one-handed.

Selvan goes before Connor, will wait until tonight to post in-game. Also, it looks like Reaghar charged ahead, I'll update him on the map tonight to reflect same. Reaghar can hit the bigger ball of light if he moves all the way to the turn in the corridor, behind the blocker-construct.

Connor's going to (obviously) generate another astral construct, this one taking the place of the blocker-flier, so the current construct can join in on the smaller ball of light.

Reaghar and Sammark, if you can make Psicraft DC 20, 16, and 16, you can use Selvan's Inevitable Strike as a standard action for your next action and get a +20 to your next ray. But yeah, it would take 4 actions/rounds.

Roll call! The next room looks like a portal to another plane that spitting out the deadly balls of light, and we have 4 targets this time. Ideas? From what we've seen, the enemy flies to whatever live person comes in line-of-sight from them, ignoring Connor's astral constructs.

I can make 5 more astral constructs, and we can retreat a door or two and send them into the room, with Hero telling Connor how the constructs fight the balls of light, but given my past batting average, it might take all 5 rounds to just kill one ball of light. So we need a strategy of who becomes the first person seen, and attacked, by the balls of light. And be prepared for casualties if we can't kill all 4 enemies fast enough. Plus there's that suspicious portal-like thing. I don't want to find out it is a monster-generator when Connor's out of psionic power points. Bad idea.

So should we tiptoe around this room, and chance not setting the balls of light off? Or charge in?

All we have is a single report from the psicrystal about the room. I'd hate to bust in there and discover a CR 18 Cthulhu on the other side of that portal, or even just a monster generator that spits out a new ball of light every turn.

Let's open the other doors, give us 3 ways to retreat. Then we can send in the astral constructs, and when they give out, we can set up a crossfire and retreat if necessary.

Or we can open the southern door, and explore around the "room of death", and just pray mdt doesn't send them through the air ducts at us.

Uh, guys & gal? #1 priority has become "destroy that portal before it becomes a monster generator and fills the room". Man, a portal to what is described as another plane? If this isn't the Plane of Shadow, it's probably the Negative Energy Plane or a 2nd Ed. special, like the Plane of Draining or something like that.

Connor's got a crossbow. I think we need to hit, but not touch, the portal. Which the astral constructs would have been ideal for, but I'm outta points. So start firing rays and stuff, and Selvan has his Bec De Corbin, and let's watch out for a feedback/death explosion at the end.

On an unrelated note, has anyone noticed Pazio has changed? I used to have the Gameplay for us bookmarked on my Mozilla Firefox, and that "window link" now goes to a generic "Did you have a campaign?" error page. My bookmark to my character still works, but not my most-used bookmark to this campaign.

I had the other page as a backup, it's primary now.

Yeah, even with Selvan's Tactician Network, exclusive-to-class powers are still exclusive. Only the Expanded Knowledge feat helps.

Well that was a quick resolution to clearing the room! If word of this gets back to Mirandi and Kalvant 'tel Mintakia, they're going to name us "The Exploders" as a team name. Or "The Demolition Crew". Or "The Live Grenades". Our motto is "Collateral damage is always counted in!" :)

Ok, now for the analysis: the astral constructs did their job and took out most of the balls of light, our rayers and shooter finishing off the larger target. Reaghar could use a Tattoo of Selvan's Inevitable Strike.

The portal attack was short, deadly, and just about killed a character. So good work, Selvan, on saving Alys' life. Connor was knocked out and allowed to "sleep it off" in the theatre room beforehand. But Alys is a female. I see where this is going...

As soon as everybody that wants to talk some more does, I'll have Connor check out the locked doors in this place.

The portal wasn't hard to close, just dangerous. I'd expected people to do more than 'look for drawing on wall and blow up from close range'. :)

Honestly I kind of expected Connor to request a delay till tomorrow when he could do more constructs. :)

I'm the only one in the party that blew most of his points on the "nothing but traps" desk and the 1st battle today. Everybody else is down less than 25% on their points, and Alys can fire all day and all night. So instead of the "astral army" taking all the hits, we're more like a "normal" adventuring party now.

We've got a week to find Snowcoat, and we've used up 2 days on finding him. We've still got 3 or 4 days. Unless mdt pulls a 2nd level on us, we should finish this map in 2 days, tops. But Connor is going to want to sleep and replenish his power points before the next battle. Unlocking 3-4 empty rooms before we find the lich or necromancer or imp that causing all this damage should be within Connor's means.

No time for that, the portal could have spat out more elementals any moment. So I was looking for an immediate solution. Neither I nor Alys could have known that the portal would go up in such a devastating explosion. We're not in Atalantia right now, so magic is not always expected to exlplode, right?

I'm not arguing with you, Alys, I'm just playing Connor as being overly protective. First Reaghar runs in twice and becomes the center of attention for the balls of light, now we have Alys shooting at point-blank range and getting a face-full of negative energy. 7D6 damage could have been DEAD dead, not just -10 hp.

And, you're right, we're not in Atalantia right now, but our characters have been conditioned to think "magic = unpinned grenade", and Connor's been multi-colored, antlered, and skunked to boot this morning, so he's firmly in the "all magic is bad" camp.

I get to the airport at 4:30 Wednesday for my 6:30 flight.

United tries to get by cheap and puts just enough gas in the jet to make it to destination. They screw up, have to turn around once they make it to the strip, and then take 2.5 hours to fuel up again and take off.

The plane lands at 8:30 (this is the plane coming to where I am). They swear they will have us out of there in 10 minutes.

At 9:15 we take off. We land at 10:45. My connecting flight is at 10:55, and is in another terminal. I run to the train that connects terminals. I get to the gate at 10:58. They didn't hold my plane, it's against policy.

It takes me 45 minutes of arguing with them but they won't give me a hotel, because it was the weather, not them putting too little fuel or refusing ot hold my flight for 3 minutes. BS.

I get to the hotel about 1:30 (actually in the hotel room that is). I'm so afraid I'll sleep through the alarm at this point, that I can't sleep. So I spend 4 hours resting on the bed watching tv before going back to the airport for a 7:25 flight.

The 7:25 flight leaves the gate at 7:45. We take off at 8:30. I get to my airport at 9:20. It then takes me another hour to get my luggage (they got it on the plane that took off without me the night before!), and finally get my car and head off home. I run into traffic, and it's 11:30 by the time I actually get into my house.

I then promptly fall asleep in front of the computer trying to work after having had no sleep for 36 hours.

So yeah, sorry for not posting yesterday. I'll get posts up today sometime.

Yeah that one is pretty bad. I got sick in Chicago once overnight due to weather but I got a voucher for 60 bucks to cover my hotel (tells you how long ago it was that 60 got me a room in the airport hilton)

A few weeks back I was in Chicago overnight (my own choosing this time) but I just stayed in the USO
