I'm central in Dallas. Anyone coming to BGGCON? :)

Jirelle is fairly capable, and typically I'd say let her go first but with no healing that may not be the way to go :)

Got your deck handy? Drop your starting hand and location in the Gameplay thread!

Whats the issue with starting first vs. heals?

Q1. How do I create a character, I've seen people that have them for the play by forums. I guess it's certainly time to learn

Cosined, in 4 player, the first two characters will get 8 turns, the latter two will get 7.

I recently kicked of a S&S campaign to introduce a mate of mine to the game and Jirelle went down to 2 cards real quick. Luckily we did have healing.

okay, let's have Jirelle go first. If you're worried about healing, stick with Koren and he can protect you from combat damage.

Ok ! And I believe I have solved my question. :)

Jirelle, did you bring enough knowledge to share with the entire class?

How'd you do it?

Yes my friend, that I did. But a barter now?

To create an alias, head to the My account page and create a new message board alias.

When you make a post there is a small drop down under the text box to allow you to select whom is saying it.

How did you all do the 'quoted' boxes for your character's hands?

Feel free to check it out: Here

Make a personal copy of the file if you'd like (if you can).

I update columns B, C, & D with my cards' statuses, and it sorts out all of the formatting. Then I copy and paste cells O9:O13 as a part of my post.

Downloaded. Very cool!

The Exchange

Glad you like it. Now, where has that Ezren run off to? I want to commence skull-sundering.

I have a version of cosined spreadsheet in Excel since the concatenate doesn't work the same vs google sheets.

yeah it's not displaying the deck

What should the formula read sir?

You mean in Excel? You have to create a user-defined function to get it to work.

your dropbox file didn't seem to have it working either?

I mean the Deck display for our postings.

In the original it is;

=LEFT(CONCATENATE(E2:E31),IF(SUM(F2:F31)=0,"",SUM(F2:F31)-2))

Troymk1 wrote:
=LEFT(CONCATENATE(E2:E31),IF(SUM(F2:F31)=0,"",SUM(F2:F31)-2))

In the Google Sheets version, that concatenates the contents of the E column and trims off the trailing comma & space, but doesn't trim if the "Hand" is empty. There's a structural mistake: it should be a 0 instead of a "", for it to make sense.

FIX wrote:
=LEFT(CONCATENATE(E2:E31),IF(SUM(F2:F31)=0,0,SUM(F2:F31)-2))

For Excel, you can just bully it:

O2 wrote:
=LEFT(CONCATENATE(E2,E3,E4,E5,E6,E7,E8,E9,E10,E11,E12,E13,E14,E15,E16 ,E17,E18,E19,E20,E21,E22,E23,E24,E25,E26,E27,E28,E29,E30,E31),IF(SUM(F2:F31 )=0,0,SUM(F2:F31)-2))

and revert the E column to the way I had it:

Ex wrote:
=IF(Dx="Hand",CONCATENATE(Bx,", "),"")

EDIT: O2 is showing spaces where there are none (After E16, F31)

concatenate in excel doesn't take a range.

it worked for me, but you have to download it so that the macros will work

Yah, I discovered that. Individually citing each cell in the E column should make it work (and lend itself to portability), but for local use in a prep'd environment, a UDF is a much more elegant choice.

I'm home from work, but will be going out for the evening soon.

Do we know what the locations are for this scenario?

Gameplay tab at the top of the page. We'll need your starting hand and location, plus any free to play cards in your hand that we can choose to play on our turns.

Wow, I forgot allies in my deck. Fox, Sage, Guard

Blech - I get one of the toughest monsters in the base set when I decide to explore without a weapon. Stupid me.

Malcolm! I count 13 Ezren avatars go get one (or create an alias!)

Figured I'd check that out after work today (which is now). I'll have to reread where you guys were talking about it first.

Guys, a heads up that from Next Friday my ability to put in my turn will be highly restricted until the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

It's the week of BGGCON and I am also attending a wedding.

I promise to check in when I can!

well, hopefully we're done before then! :)

Assuming you're at BGGCON, have a great time!

Yup. Have been every year since inception

That's me and PAX East. Its certainly getting harder with everyone in my Con-group having kids...

This game is going a lot faster than I thought it would.

Hawk. Do you have a way of randomizing the enemy ship or should I just go get the pile from my set and roll ?

I do have a way to randomize it and just posted it. I had been slipping it into the Pirate Hunting spoiler the past few turns (pulling a new one with each turn in case it was encountered that turn). But I stopped. Of course, then you actually encounter Pirate Hunting.

That being said, I wouldn't have been upset if you just pulled one on your own. Ships aren't in the decks, so it isn't like you could have drawn something that was already in a deck somewhere.

Hawk, I just wanted to thank you for running this. It has been as much fun as I thought it would be and I owe you a beverage of your choice should I ever run into you somewhere!

I moved the Pirate Shade Haunts to displayed cards in my deck

It means in excel you have to manually add in the J range to the concatenate function but worth it for the future IMHO

I just added them to my deck and listed them as displayed. The numbers for deck/discard/buried should be correct in that case.

Right, but the Display reporting function (as shown above) needs some tinkering to get it working in Excel, same as happened with the Hand display above as we discussed earlier in the thread.

oooooh. right. Dueling solutions.

GOOGLE SHEETS 4 LIFE!

I'm really surprised that excel is behind on anything. Its been an excellent product for so many years. They getting lazy?

I wonder if its due more to the original target audience for the two products. Excel has been used by number-pushers for decades, groups that might be set in they're ways and not really push the limits of the software. Sheets would have been developed by and for a new generation of tech-savvy users, and the feature set might reflect that.

we're due a new version next year. So I daresay it will catch up and do some special things.

I'm not a fanboy but its been a reliable workhorse for two decades LOL

Just realized, my home version is 2007

So who knows if its already there!

I have 2010 at work, and it too doesn't have robust concatenate functions.

1. Shock Glaive +1
2. Cetus +1
3. Spiked Chain +1
4. Greatsword
5. Glaive
6. Ranseur
7. Lucerne Hammer

Come on Lucerne Hammer:

Random Weapon: 1d7 ⇒ 7

Oh Nice I had my guest roll !

Hawk. You can archive this if you'd like? Helps a little as this currently sits at the top of my active campaigns
