Clash With the Lords of Rust

As the release date for Pathfinder Adventure Path #86: "Lords of Rust" nears, I thought I'd share a few details on what readers can expect. I don't want to spoil too much about the adventure itself, so I'll mention that it takes place in a giant junkyard and the PCs have to navigate all sorts of dangers and complicated relationships between various gangs. It was also written by a maniac. Most people know him by his human name, Nicolas Logue.

This volume of the Pathfinder Adventure Path also answers some questions that have been on people's minds for a while. An article about the Technic League, written by Jim Groves, resolves some questions about how that unscrupulous organization's history and talks a bit about how the group operates. Something else people have shown interest in over the years is the faith of Brigh, so we got Sean K Reynolds to cover the topic in a deity article about the goddess of clockwork, invention, and time. I'm really happy with how the article turned out and I can't wait until readers get their own copies of "Lords of Rust" in their hands. The volume is rounded out with the usual collection of monsters and the continuation of Amber E. Scott's Pathfinder Journal.

To sate your hunger until you can grab a copy, enjoy some of the wonderful art pieces of Brigh, her holy symbol, and a worshiper that shows up in this adventure. (I threw in a bonus dead technician just for the fun of it.)

I'm very excited for this release as a whole, but I think I'll have to read about Brigh first!

Woo! Go get'em, Nic!

Hopefully, next year we'll see oodles of tech-equipped Iconics, androids, Brigh worshippers, Brigh avatars, and undead astronauts in next years batch of Con cosplayers. :)

I'm very much looking forward to reading a new module by the arch-heretic Logue. I have my buckets ready.

I can't help wondering if especially appaling material landed on the cutting room floor - as it did with a certain family of Ogrekin many moons ago...

It's kind of neat that the shiv that skeleton in the spacesuit is going to stab you with was once part of his faceplate.

Is it love or a skeleton in a space suit? As if those aren't the same thing.

Yeah, not working on Team AP™, I see a lot of the art from within the line's pages at the same time as everyone else.

Huh, Brigh kinda looks like an Inevitable. I wonder if we'll be seeing more Inevitables in this Adventure Path. Maybe retooled versions of the Quarut, Varakhut, and Anhydrut?

Those aren't Open Content. They belong to WotC.

I'm loving the whole Brigh image! I wish I could create a wallpaper with that image as pillars on the side.

I'm also glad we got Brigh with less of a gnome looking holy symbol with a key stuck out of her forehead. While I see the earlier one as a good gnome version, I'm loving this one a lot more!

I can't wait to see her god article and the obediences she gives to her followers, though a sneak preview of that or a spoiler would be awesome. :)

I love the title of this one. It makes me think of Lords of Karma by Joe Satriani.

If I'm getting excited over artwork from the second book of this Adventure Path, I absolutely can't wait for what we'll see in the next few books!

Please tell me you guys got some wicked art of the Dominion of the Black. I'm just imagining a view of the outline of horrible, organic-looking Dominion ships in the endless, starry void...

Hey I just made an image with the city of Alkenstar pic in the middle with mirrored versions of the Brigh images on the side, I still think I need more for the top and bottom portions though.

I'm hoping to see a (John Carpenter's) The Thing like monster turn up in book 4. Running such a monster well would be challenging, but a lot of fun. :D

Just the other day, I came up with a Spellslinger/Witch that worships Brigh.

This must be a sign!

The qomok in Legendary Games' Mythic Aliens book fits the bill. It is fantastic but takes 4 pages to explain all the rules for it.

Who says they have to have the same stats, artwork, and backstory as the WotC's versions?

As cool as that would be it would also be a fight no PC (or anything else on Golarion probably) could possibly win. Remember that every piece of "the Thing" was alive (right down to it's individual cells) and it could infect ANYTHING ORGANIC that it touched.

Yes it was vulnerable to fire (at least in the movie) but that only ended up killing part of it. Anything left over was still very much alive (down to the infected blood and flakes of semi-burnt flesh).

Introducing that monster to any world with organic life is pretty much a doomsday scenario for that world.

When does Nic get to turn Arcadia into a Razor Coast-style adventure-frame/sandbox.

Because that would be sweeeeet!

As you may have guessed, loving the touches of Metropolis and Orthodox Christan iconography in that picture of Brigh.
You chaps (and chapettes) have really done this proud!
Thanks for taking the gamble on Iron Gods, this is quite definately my favourite project you have done to date!

I think the qomok works well enough. The thingification is treated as a disease and you have access to things like disintegration. Something else to consider is that the things are actually extremely individualist. No given thing actually wants to create spawn. It's trying to assimilation more matter into itself and will gladly sell out other things to ensure its own survival. In the movie in fact thing infection only actually happened by accident or when someone interrupted the thing's feeding. The thing are the end of the movie for instance just kept growing as it added organisms to itself rather than infecting them and leaving them even if that would have been more tactically sound.

So really I don't think it would pose any more danger to Golarion than any other CR 14 mythic foe with spawning abilities. Wraiths and shadows haven't taken over the world after all.

Edit: Though something of note the qomok can't infect anything smaller than tiny size, likely to prevent mosquito things and make its split ability work mechanically.

Has this been delayed? I'm a little confused here, the subscription pushed to October now, but I haven't seen anything else on it.

The subscription page shows errors. That's the reason for the big warning at the top :) Basically, all subs are showing an October release date, but are being processed now-ish.

This is the best thread to follow in regards to the September subscription shipments.
