I think Skulda might work for this then :)

Edit:She'll need to spend a lot more gold. Any info about the setting the game will take place in? Why are the characters a group?

We haven't heard about that, yet. Herald still needs to let us know.

Ah, my enthusiasm diminishes. It's really hard to run an epic level game. Reeeeaaaaallllllyyy hard. If this is someone's off the cuff idea it will probably fail after a week or so like every other Epic game I've ever tried. However, on the off chance that I am wrong I will still apply for it. I need to check over Skulda to make sure she fits all the character creation rules, and spend the rest of her gold. But other than that I'm basically ready already.

I don't think we need to rush. I once DMed an epic game and spent the better part of a couple of months planning out what I needed to do. It was a lot of fun from the get-go because of that. Sadly, what killed the game was the players suddenly vanishing in droves.

For example, we have no real plot premise at the moment. The characters, especially a band of the best of the best, will also need a reason to be together. These points should probably be addressed before we jump right into it.

Might need to be a bit more than just general adventuring. Though for a few of us, I could see how applying great deals of what we've learned would be a good draw for adventuring. Or possibly even learning more skills on the road.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I always thought something like the Green Lantern Corps would be a good way to do an epic level party.

Yar!

hehe, that kinda fits with my proposed character, Sir Orrin. His shtick is basically going out and stomping all over the most recent / most prominent big evil threat, protect the little guy, that sort of thing. Cross-planar police force works well with that (especially with the few Ranger levels and favored enemy Evil Outsider). While Order of the Sword Cavaliers are chivalrous, they often serve a Lord. Sir Orrin is basically a Lord himself at this level, so his patron could very well be Chaldira Zuzaristan herself (halfling god of battle) or one of her emissaries.

Though all that recent talk about high saving throughs is making me tempted to switch out some ranger for 2 levels of Paladin (add Cha to all saves). Switch out another Ranger level for the Advanced Template and that's around a 10 point boost to all saves! :O

Don't think I will though. Kinda cheesy and I like the flavor these levels of Ranger gives me, even if it's mechanically "weaker".

*ponders more*

~P

That also sounds pretty fun. I've got a few character ideas in how I'd like Jacob to react right now. At the moment, I'm thinking somewhere between a travelling salesman who leaves his cohort to deal with the business end of things back home and Saxton Hale from the Valve TF2 comics. Basically wandering for people to sell his wares to while searching creation for interesting things to build and improve upon.

Also, LM, do you think that when the metamagic rod page says "The wielder can cast up to three spells per day that are" affected by MM feats, that if the rods changed wielders they would reset for someone new? Because I feel like there could be some synergy between us if I picked up a Greater Quickening Rod.

Yah, i kind of think all core-ish races should get access to one low-level template for free, or they should be banned. It's just such a boost for very little investment.

I also kind of wonder if we still have Herald on-board.

Would be nice to hear from him about a few things.

Yar!

Agreed, but on the other hand, it has only been just over a day since his last post and less than that since his last doc update... and it's the weekend. For some, that means family, leaving town, or even more work (depending on your job).

*pretends to sit about waiting patiently but is actually rocking back and forth biting his nails*

~P

You are, of course, right. Apparently i need to work on my patience.

... lame.

I will admit to my concern about whether this will actually get off the ground, and which of us will be chosen, how long it'll last, etc

Maybe we should seek another Co-GM?

Invite me! I love BBQ pool parties!

Lol, on the other hand the GM is probably really happy with all the enthusiam!
This here is Gobo Hordes submission :D Crash of the Hammer! His name is Crash, his title is The Hammer. It goes well together. Shrug.
He is human, 99% martial and quite melee focused. He is no where near done and lots of things need to be changed/added but this should give you an idea of him!

Does the inherent strength bonus from Greater Eldritch Heritage advance again at level 21 and 25 for a +10 total?

Also,Crash is awesome. :)

Looking at the Demi plane series of spells and need some clarification.

To add the features listed under Create Demiplane, do you actually need to cast that spell, or can you use the Greater version of the spell?

I think you can cast any version of the spell to make one. If you cast regular old Create Demiplane on a demiplane, you can add one specification. If you cast Greater Create Demiplane, then you can add a specification from a larger list. I think you can also make a demiplane with one of these specifications if you just cast the spell out of that demiplane.

After having read this and pondering it for some hours now I have to say I like this idea a lot. I vote for it.

It would appear it would D: it is a class feature progressing at even intervials.

Also, I am loving crash as he is coming together :) He is a martial human in a band of dragons and solars and sorcerers supreme (he can only cast 2 second level spells). I wonder how he will fare :)
Of course if he does hit you, you are blind, deafened, anchored to the spot and, well, screwed. I also love how he has all these gems implanted all over his arms, back and forehead, and I am thinking of making one of them intelligent ;D

Well, if i get to play alongside Crash, you'll have at least one martial, melee human teammate (well, as a quiggong monk, he has a few supernatural abilities).

I liked your implanted Ioun stone idea, though the majority of my slotless items will be flavored as piercings and tattoos. :)

Gotta love punk paladins. :D

With the idea in mind of gear shifting as the dragon changes form I am finding it easier to select magic items. With that in mind I should have gear chosen in the next day or so.

I'm going to wait to hear something more definite from the GM before I put more work into Skulda. It took me hours and hours to make her the first time, and I got to play her for about a week. I wanna make sure that this game will actually happen before I invest more time.

I'm a first/rough draft! :D

I do hope this game works out, as I do miss being out in the field. I agree with waiting for something more definite, but even the brainstorming and building has been entertaining at least. Though I also know all to well the pain of investing time in something and having it flop.

(the good aligned Sir Orrin would respond with something like "I feel your pain, but it's not all bad! The joy of seeing your creation unfold and the process of making it come into being, can be it's own reward. At the very least you can take solace in knowing you created something grand, and it will be ready for you when another opportunity comes")

...

ahem! ...anyways, I do realize that this current version of Sir Orrin is over budget by about... *checks notes* ... ugh, 145612gp. Yes, this is already with reduced costs due to crafting (it'd be much MUCH worse if I didn't give Giles (my cohort) a bunch of crafting feats and skills ranks in many various crafting skills). So yeah, I still need to figure out what to cut and/or diminish in power, and thus, value. :/

And I need to finish transferring my background/history from my head into the sheet. ... *gets back to work*

Seems like an interesting idea you've got so far.

And I'm relatively certain this will last a while.

Quite a chatty group. Lots of character ideas too. I believe the setting was going to be Golarion, I also like the green lantern idea.

I know some have been working on shared backgrounds. Anyone considering taking responsibility for describing how their character has based or influenced the world?

I'd like to stake a claim on Magnimar.

This is a generic post being sent to everyone that I am currently playing with

Hey everyone. This is Crash/Gobo Horde here. Due to the flooding happening here in Calgary and me supposedly going on vacation (which may or may not happen :P) my posting for this next week might be sporadic and lighter than normal. Sorry for it, but such is life :) If you need to, feel free to take control of me and I will pop in when I can.
Thanks ^-^

When I say green lantern, I don't actually mean DC universe. I just mean some organization very similar to the green lanterns. It could easily still be set in Golarion's universe. Might be fun to use some of that stuff from the outer space book Paizo put out with the other planets in Golarion's solar system detailed. The name of the book escapes me at the moment.

There's a book for that? I'm intrigued. Might need to get my hands on that ASAP.

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Distant Worlds

I was literally just posting that! You ninja!

I just had a question I can't believe I hadn't asked yet. What general era would this sort of campaign be placed in? We going for old school or maybe something slightly more contemporary when it comes to settings, Herald?

Also, thanks for the link!

I'm still around, but I'd like to know that the game is going to happen before I put more work into my character.

Tiny Coffee Golem wrote:

I feel the exact same way. I really want to play in this game, but I don't feel like putting too too much effort into a 25th level character that never sees play.

Seems that while a lot was explained, there's a few questions that are still rampant. Just gotta wait, it seems.

More than likely, the DM has realized that he's bitten off more than he can chew with an epic level game. It's the most challenging thing in dungeons and dragons-like RPGS. You have to come up with a good idea to begin with (for characters who are nearly gods), write all the monsters/encounters from scratch. You also need a nearly perfect rules knowledge to think ahead of all the options that the PCs are going to have at their disposal. The simple dungeon delve or mystery doesn't work anymore when extra-dimensional travel, wishes, and high level divination are the norm. Oh well. I will keep one eye on this, but it's been long enough that I'm not getting my hopes up.

Or he could be busy. There are simpler explanations to these things.

And more optimistic ones as well :P

I'm often accused of being a pessimist :P I find life less disappointing with the worst possible expectations. Lets hope this is one of the time's I'm pleasantly wrong :)

If Herald starts posting up a storm on other threads, maybe you're right. But it seems like he's had only a few posts at all over the past couple days. Besides, if he bails, maybe we can find someone else to run a game.

I am still alive. Work has started and so has my two summer campaigns. FAQ updated.

As for the question of "preparedness", me and Razzenmagnus were going to co-GM and he already had a starting point whereas I do not.

I offered a plane travelling tomb raiding adventure to seek immortality. Something grand.

We're still at the planning stage of course.

No aliases are needed for the moment. A link is fine.

Great to see you back, Herald. Does it seem like running three sessions might be running a bit much, though? Still think you're up for it?

Just want to make sure you aren't spread too thin is all.

Can someone re-post the link to the FAQ? It's hard to play ketchup in the evenings when I'm on my tablet.

I can tell you it's about 1/3 of the way down page 8, if that helps. :D

And good to see ya still engaged Herald. How much feedback/input do you want on the plot for this game? I'm happy to be as hands-on or off, at your preference. :)

Here it is, LM. So, I was wondering how many people we should know. Maybe not buddy buddy, but aware of each other.

3 games is perfectly fine. One of them is Skull & Shackles and that takes a lot of the creative overload off.

For a game of this magnitude though, here are my current concerns:

- An epic level game with 4 players is complex. A game where we have I don't know how many applicants might be tough. I don't think making someone create a 25th level character and then not selecting him is fair.

- So as to be completely sure of character creation and advancement I will create an Advancement Tracker chart. Applicants will be asked to fill it out so I can at what levels feats are taken, ability scores are increased, etc. I should have it up tomorrow.

- As for the adventure itself, the easiest for me would be an epic level dungeon. That's for sure. Everything else requires that much more time. It all depends on what you all want and the time you're willing to take getting through it. A dungeon I can create and run incredibly fast. Anything else will take longer to make and play through.

Thoughts, opinions, etc?

Here are my feelings on the game.

  • I like/prefer greater RP at this stage than I do at lower levels. Since we are so high level I enjoy greatly the additional opportunities that arise in a game such as this.

  • Less combat. While I don't want to eliminate combat or for it to be the primary focus I do enjoy combat from time to time. It would need to be minimized or special rules applied to keep it running quickly and smoothly.

Game types I am interested in (any combinations of these are cool):

    • The Green Lantern core-like group
    • Political intrigue/mystery
    • Plane hopping for immortality
    • Tomb raiders

As for the character I am building I have narrowed it down to this:

An ancient silver dragon who is interested in see more of the universe/planes. I do not intend to play a front line combatant nor hog the spotlight. Not going to be a jerk here.

And for reference, I have an alias up with the gear selected.

  • Sounds legit to me, I think I'm pretty well set with the whole advancement tracking thing anyways. A good half the feats I took aren't level dependent anyway.

The only thing that could be debatable is that I took four bloodline feats. But that shouldn't be a problem, because the wording states that a bloodline feat is something that should be taken "At 7th level, and every six levels thereafter...". So by my logic, it seems like it should be at 7th, 13th, 19th, and 25th.
But this does bring up the question about any possible bonus spells, which are thusly explained as "At 3rd level, and every two levels thereafter, a sorcerer learns an additional spell, derived from her bloodline." But I'm probably rambling and grasping at straws at this point.
