EDIT: I see Herald favorited your post. Herald: What does that mean?

That orgies are funny.

And I answered a few questions on the FAQ.

Well, I'm flexible. I just know some players voiced that they wanted less combat. I'm actually able to give them more intrigue while the combat folks can duke it out in our multiplanar ring of battle.

Probably more intrigue due to complexity and because its fun.

70/30 sounds alright?

Yeah 400 campers, 50 of which were in Dungeons & Dragons this week. Was madness I tell you.

I'm ready for the siege if anyone wants to give me a "We jump now and where".

Those going for the Diversion can also roll a d20 each using their highest stat as their modifier.

I'm still here, just had a crazy week with over 400 campers so I've had very little time. Expect a full post either tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for being patient!

As for my posting schedule it's usually 1 a day but these days have been hectic.

Someone seems to have mentioned Roll20 and I am open to that idea if people want to go that way.

Could someone make a quick Group post so I see it when I get back home? Would help me quite a bit.

Dotted dot dot.

If I offer suggestions it's to move the game along or provide helpful advice, never to hinder my players.

You've got an idea of the number of officers (and even they're not much of a threat). The real threat is probably inside the tower itself.

You are a small elite force. I'm just letting you know that your characters would know by now that infantry is essentially just fodder for any AoE spell you have.

Stealth is still the best, but I just wanted to showcase an option. Don't want to railroad or hold up game.

Honestly, I also like the idea of having challenges take place outside the arena. Perhaps things such as stealing a valuable ruby from an efreeti lord's castle or bringing back a keg of ale from Besmara's ship?

This seem fun?

Just gonna jump in here and remind everyone that the infantry are usually level 1 or 2 warriors. You guys are a significant threat to the tower and would possibly be able to take it by siege.

Pirate's got the gist of it, but I was planning on have you enter as a team a la Champion's Belt.

It should work. I just did up a post. I had to delete the thread and try again. This is my first time setting up such a thing. Took me a couple to finally get it down.

The tabs at the top of the page will work now. I will add more details and the gameplay thread as we need it.

Cool and excellent!

...and because it's more on the "recruitment" side of things (and the sometimes Stage Manager in me is a stickler for organization, which includes detailed information consolidated to be easy to reference), here is the list of hopefuls and their background posts in one location for ease of reference (in the order that they posted):

** spoiler omitted **

** spoiler omitted **...

You're a godsend mate.

I've got a live D&D game and then I'll be back to answer up the FAQ.

If we're going about this tournament style, I'd like to take the 10 hopefuls if I can.

First, B'auw will try to move through some of the army, doing his best to locate officers if possible.

Easily done. Each two score of troops (40 men) have an officer of some sort wearing decorative armor. It seems that they report to other officers, of which there are around two dozen. You can't make out a clear leader.
.
Second, he'll make his way to the tower itself, watching for any patrols or traps on the way. Once he's there, he'll make a wide circuit of the tower, noting any defensive structures or pitfalls that the group should expect.

Crenelations at multiple floors and murder holes. Ballistas are stationed at the tower's base. The eastern wall seems to bear a slight seam which may be more easily scaled.
.
Third, he'll try to note anyone who could be a magic-user near the base of the tower or in any defensive-watch-stations. Basically, seeing if the enemy is keeping an "arcane eye" out for arcanically-stealthed attackers (like B'auw). This might also tell him if they have any defenses up against teleporting in… it's a longshot since B'auw doesn't have Detect Magic, but it' worth a look.

Good idea there. You don't note anyone at the base, but around the soliders you notice cadres of robed figures. No one seems to be seeking invisible units. In fact, no one seems particularly on high alert.
.
Fourth, he'll look on the tower itself (or somewhere really, really close-by) where the group could Teleport directly to and quickly assault the tower itself… either a window on the tower or a parapet or anything of the sort.

The roof would work. A small hillock on the western side could also provide cover and is only 100 feet or so away from the tower.

Fifth, he'll check for all entrances to the tower… gate, door, windows, etc. to look for the most likely to give the group a way to get in quickly and (hopefully) without being seen.

Main entrance and roof.

Who should I message to ask for this to be moved to a discussion thread?

My suggestion is to make a campaign and set up a discussion thread. It would be the easiest without having to email the paizo staff.

Alternatively, if you don't mind me being the owner I can turn this thread into a recruitment and set up such a thread.

I do not mind you being the owner whatsoever.

So, what else do we need to sort out?

I'll be posting tomorrow night. Paizo wasn't loading all night and I just got back from a long day of work. Rest easy friends.

Who should I message to ask for this to be moved to a discussion thread?

@MacFetus: Distance is 300 ft. 600 troops are currently stationed within sight of the tower but they don't seem like permanents. They've been there as long as you have been at the cave.

They are in three formations of 200 or so men at various points around the tower. Enough space is there to sneak through.

@B'auw: The tower's barely 300 ft. away. You'd have time for a quick scout out.

Back, I completely forgot to mention on this thread that I was away at my girlfriend's graduation ball.

In short:

I think the majority speaks and that 1 template should be the maximum.

Were there any other major questions? I literally just back and may have missed something through the reading.

You will get written orders, but the lieutenant has so far only said to secure the perimeter.

About an hour only. I'm ready for a cloaked jump if you are.

I'll be at my girlfriend's graduation ball so I'll be back Sunday evening.

No custom races please. Just for ease of looking up and familiarity.

Alright, we seem to be all on different pages, so I asked the question in the FAQ. What do you all prefer we rule for templates?

@Skulda: I do have the Golden Phoenix Tournament available, I think one of my friends have it. I also have Champion's Belt from the Age of Worms so I have plenty of inspiration.

It'd be more than just "Fight". There'd be a story, people to interact with, potential cheaters, multiple different match types, places to explore, things to buy, etc.

Up to you but it could be both?

If it's not too late for everyone: Half-Something isn't too complex, so I'd allow it. It's just stacking templates that I didn't want.

Still here and everything.

I had a new idea at work today (Teaching kids to play D&D at camp). To combine both roleplay and good challenges, what would you to say to a Planar Tournament? The strongest champions have united to hold a tremendous contest, including festivities, duels, skirmishes, intrigue and a foul rumor of something dark stirring?

Any takers?

The lieutenant speaks up again.

"We've got ranged capabilities but nothing flying. I doubt any gryphon riders are available either, they're all scouting the areas for the leaders. We did bring along a companion whose going to be staying with you for your mission. Funny little person."

As for the "combat that never happened" you could have assaulted the airship.

The lieutenant turns to Calithilon.

"Our current orders are to remove all Order presence in the immediate vicinity. I assume that tower is our biggest target. We need a foothold and this region has been chosen."

Just as Thak finishes talking, a humming noise fills the air.

A score of soldiers materializes in the cave, arms at the ready. Seeing no immediate danger they relax their grips.

One of the men steps forward and speaks aloud.

"Lieutenant Sarn at your command. I hear there's some tower to take out. What can we do to help?"

I love everyone's personality xD

I may have been unclear so I apologize:

- only these backgrounds by the 30th, no completed character sheet

- Only CUSTOM MADE slotless items work with that price. Everything already existing is priced as written.

I apologize, the secret door isn't there, Im just using the map to show how the cave roughly looks like.

If you relay B'auw's questions by telepathy rose you get the following answer:

Around 20 men. Simply a small detachment to watch the area. The majority of the work is up to you, but they are your disposal."

My word you people blast through post count like monsters.

I was setting up the Advancement Table when I realized that it's not needed.

We've been debating everything for a while now and this is how I think we should progress:

By June 30th
Decide once and for all what kind of campaign you want.
Resolve all FAQ
Everyone should post something like this (no alias needed)

Character Name
Race/Class/Etc
Flavor/Backstory
What kind of Campaign you want/where/focus
Level of experience (years/games/etc)

This should give me a clear look at what I have to work with. I believe this is a reasonable amount of time. The faster I get this, the faster I can work.

@aceDiamond: Removed homebrew setting for the moment as I realized some people may want to be in Golarion/some might not.

@Faerdocha: It's alright man, totally understand... 10 little indians... now there are 9... MWAHAHAHA

@Seila: You count around 600 individual soldiers moving through the area, all infantry and officers. Weapons include swords, spears, bows and artillery. All are humans and they do look well equipped. The gear is new, or at least made quite well. The tower looks something like this.

@Rose: "I'm assuming by now your campsite is secured. We will be sending over a few troops by magical means if you assure us there is both room and sufficient measures in place. They are carrying your missive for the first mission. Read it, then burn it. Are we clear to send the troops?

3 games is perfectly fine. One of them is Skull & Shackles and that takes a lot of the creative overload off.

For a game of this magnitude though, here are my current concerns:

- An epic level game with 4 players is complex. A game where we have I don't know how many applicants might be tough. I don't think making someone create a 25th level character and then not selecting him is fair.

- So as to be completely sure of character creation and advancement I will create an Advancement Tracker chart. Applicants will be asked to fill it out so I can at what levels feats are taken, ability scores are increased, etc. I should have it up tomorrow.

- As for the adventure itself, the easiest for me would be an epic level dungeon. That's for sure. Everything else requires that much more time. It all depends on what you all want and the time you're willing to take getting through it. A dungeon I can create and run incredibly fast. Anything else will take longer to make and play through.

Thoughts, opinions, etc?

As far as everyone can tell the cave is quite ordinary... no magic or anything.

Scouting the area reveals an enemy watchtower to the south with troops moving through its vicinity.

Enough fresh game can be caught to satisfy everyone for the moment.

I want you all to choose one person who will be designated as the "Receiver" in terms of telepathic communications.

I am still alive. Work has started and so has my two summer campaigns. FAQ updated.

As for the question of "preparedness", me and Razzenmagnus were going to co-GM and he already had a starting point whereas I do not.

I offered a plane travelling tomb raiding adventure to seek immortality. Something grand.

We're still at the planning stage of course.

No aliases are needed for the moment. A link is fine.

I'm off for the evening but will return later tonight. Fear not, fear not.

Map of the Cavern

Ignore the numbers except 14. That's the exit to the outside.

The circular object to the west is a brazier.

The highest totals were:

33 Perception
21 Knowledge (geography)
31 Stealth
31 Survival

---

As you head through the raging chaos around you, your skills quickly spy a a small wood in the distance. Using the surrounding inferno to your advantage, you maneuver through the smoke and rocks and manage to make your way there.

From the trees' cover, you are then able to follow a small brook uphill to its source where you find a small cave system consisting of a few crevices, open chambers and a natural spring... the perfect place to make a campsite.

A message sounds again in your head:

"We're taking casualties but the airship should fall soon. We'll be sending you a small detachment soon. In the meantime, do what you can to make a secure base and scout out the immediate area. Our scouts are already reporting that Amberfall seems to be composed of many floating islands... though each one seems to be immensely different from the next. While the one we are on seems to be relatively similar to our woodland home, we have reports coming in of a volcanic isle to the west and a frozen tundra to the north... keep your eyes peeled friends. This missions must not fail."

As you ready yourselves, a horn blows in the distance.

The moment has come!

The spellcasters finish one last gesture of power and the entire area is bathed in a shimmering curtain of gold.

Gazing upwards you see the sky peel away to reveal a new landscape... one suddenly bursting in flames.

---

You find yourselves in a valley like area.

Fire rains down from above, coming from what appears to be an ironclad airship.

Numbers dwindling, the troops are nevertheless swiftly covered in various protective spells and a cadre of mages disappear from view, blinking straight up, followed by cavalry mounted on gryphons.

A voice fills your thoughts:

"You should escape while you can, that Airship won't relent until we bring it down. I'm guessing the teleportation must have been detected but it doesn't look like they've mustered too many troops just yet. Get to a safe location and we'll contact you once we finish with this hulking mess."

---

Survival, Perception, Knowledge (geography) can all help here. Stealth rolls are required, taking the best as the group's Stealth roll. Of course, you can always stay and fight.

Hence my asking what spells you want to cast before heading through the breach ;)

@Calithilon: No worries. It's fine.

And I just wanted you guys to be buffed before gating through.
