Welcome to a new recruitment for the Skulls and Shackles Adventure Path, where piracy is the rule, and plunder and infamy fill the seas of Golarion! To apply for this game all you need to do is submit a fitting backstory as to why your character finds themselves in Port Peril and a roleplay example of their actions in and around the inn 'Formidably Maid' the previous night before you were unceremoniously pressganged. Use your chosen campaign trait to shape this if it helps.

Characters may be of any paizo released PC races, classes, archetypes and options(including BG skills) starting at level 1 with max HP, 2 normal and 1 campaign trait, 1 bonus feat/level and automatic bonus progression +2(magic loot be special and rare). 25 point buy with max 18 and min 8 after racial bonuses.

I, Diamondust am a player and GM of pathfinder of 6 or 7 years mostly with a small group of friends. I've done this adventure before so I am confident in running it and adapting it to make it new and interesting for any of you who may also have played or run it before. The first thing to be changed is the string of days on the ship performing menial tasks which for me and my group was exceedingly boring so I intend to hurry that along and maybe spice it up a little. The second major thing is getting a taste of mythic at the end of each book of the AP, options of which I reserve the right to 'balance' if need be. I will be checking several times a day and making at least 1 post each day and I hope you are all prepared to do the same. I won't be using many maps though I may upload some images online to help get an idea of things.

Hopefully some of you are interested in a piratey game. We'll keep it fun and M rated. I don't much hold to alignment restrictions though if a paladin and an anti-paladin apply I probably won't choose both characters because like it or not some things are just bound to kill each other.

Liberty's Edge

Dot. How many points for ability scores?

I knew I forgot something. Thanks for reminding me in time to edit my post. It will be 25 point buy with max 18 and min 8 after racial bonuses.

Oh, most intriguing. A bit of mythic is a nice twist. I shall have to think on some concepts.

Dotting for interest.

Ah, who am I kidding? I'm dotting because it's pirates! :D

EDIT: Thinking human bard (duettist) with a monkey familiar.

Dot. Pirates are fun, and I'd like to give this AP a try. I've got a few concepts I'm interested in that might be fun.

How many players will you be taking?

Here is Esmeralda, Sapiens' submission. Please tell me if her being amphibious would be too strong, I have been wanting to play an underwater character for a long time (second only to a natural flyer, like a Strix).
She is a witch, an amateur violinist and a dabbling tailor, born in a brothel and raised in a tavern, her blood is salty and her timbers are shivered.

I do have an idea for a Steel Soul Fighter, or is it Steel Bound, with a Possessed Hand who wields a cutlass. I like the idea of a possessed cutlass.

Dotting. I have an Alchemist(Vivisectionist) I've been wanting to play for a while.

Two questions: When you say "1 bonus feat/level," I assume this is instead of the standard one every other level, NOT in addition to. Yes?
Also, what is our starting wealth?

One more thing, I have played S&S up to the very start of book 3 in a face-to-face group before it fell apart. I am confident in my ability to keep player and character knowledge separate, but I understand if you decide against me.

Is there a deadline?

@Phntm888: Not sure yet the exact number I will choose. It is depending on a couple factors.

@Sapiens: Undine are fine and could be very useful to the party.

@Nohwear: That sounds hilariously awesome.

@Robert Henry: Vishkanya are by paizo and therefore acceptable.

@MattZ: You assume wrong. You will indeed get lots of feats to play with. Starting wealth is average for your class (or roll if you like). I won't be counting your previous experience against you.

@Gnomezrule: I think if we get to a dozen or so applications I will have enough to create a party but no set in stone deadline.

I have an undine watersinger bard that would fit into this campaign!

Also can we take drawbacks?

Big got! Skulls and Shackles, please! :D I will get my application ready soon. Thanks for bringing it in, Diamondust :)

Starting wealth: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3) = 12

So that's going to be 120 gp for my character.

Oh, so we have two feats at level 1, three for human? I think Esmeralda is going to become one martial witch.

I re-worked this alt from a previous skulls and shackles game that died.

Tons of feats and mythic, please do sign me up! Now the question is what to play. I feel an arcane trickster would fit wonderfully as a pirate, but flying blade fits even better... Let the starknives fly! That build need a ton of feats to work and this'll provide it. Though I still wish I could skip weapon focus as a feat tax. The two first feats I want are Starry Grace and Startoss Comet which have 2 and 3 prerequisites each (though they do share weapon focus).

Really a shame that Besmara doesn't have options for boons for Defic Obedience. I might go with Desna anyway as it fits so well with the idea of a starknife thrower and you can still be chaotic neutral.

This is SCKnightHero1 here, and this is my undine watersinger bard Jerieth. She's quite friendly and would work as the perfect captain/diplomat for the crew. :)

I really like this AP, and I look forward to seeing all of the awesome submissions this recruitment will get. I was in a Skulls and Shackles game a while back but it died when we were only barely a fourth into the first book, so we had just barely started. So I'm looking forward to this AP and seeing how it goes. Good luck everyone who submits!

Chess here with my submission! :) Bleepos is a Goblin Pirate Rogue.

Shit.

I love Shackles.....

WELP. Expect an application very, VERY soon from me!

@SCKnightHero1: You may take drawbacks.

Question: For extra flavor, are we allowed to take more than 1 campaign trait as our 3 traits?

I'll dot for now.

Would like to play a Kineticist, would need to look over for the built. Sadly though, I won't have time until Sunday, wordt case Monday. Is this first come, first serve type of recruitment, or do we have a few days?

Cool! And thank you for letting me know. Let me just give Jerieth the Hedonist drawback and the Sea-Souled trait and she's ready to go!

Silver Crusade

*drowns in a sea of feat slots*

I present my submission for review.

Dr Harold Genade, surgeon and recent graduate of the Oppara Medical Academy.

Background:

Harold was born a middle child of a minor noble family in Taldor. From childhood, he was fascinated by the inner workings of living things. Eventually he attended the famed Oppara Medical Academy, graduating near the top of his class. However, his espousal of several radical theories of biology led to him being ostracized from the popular academic community.

Unable to make a living anywhere in Taldor, he began to look abroad. He looked into openings in overseas colonies, and found an old request for a doctor from a small outpost on the Mwangi coast. His voyage was uneventful, but he got as far Port Peril only to learn that the outpost had literally sunk into the Sodden Lands long ago. The job opening must have been over a century old, but was still filed as "current need". Taldan bureaucracy for you.

Stranded in a pirate haven, low on funds, the good doctor is left few choices. Maybe some pirate lord needs a personal physician? His education and skill should put him above this unsavory rabble soon enough. Then they'll respect him. Those old-fashioned professors and philosophers back home will regret rejecting his brilliance! They'll see, he'll show them! He'll show them all!

Cleric of Kurgess reporting for deck swabbin duty capn..

Seeing that it is a pirate theme how common are guns going to be?

I'll dot. Thinking of a rogue. Are rules from Unchained available?

So bonus feats at every level does that mean an additional at level 1.

I think I'm going to go with an Ulfen Skinwalker, either Draconic Bloodrager (going Dragon Disciple) or a straight barbarian. The crew needs someone to wade into the thick of things and rend foes with his bare hands claws and teeth.

Ah Jeez.

I saw there was someone with CHA put in here, so I switched to a Barbarian so there wouldn't be 2 annoyingly competing for captain.

Now I post a barbarian just moments after someone brought up being one xD xD xD xD

REGARDLESS, here lies Karzok Rokis, a sturdy, dirty, Half-Orc native to Port Peril.

Oh, Bleepos was already designed to be putting himself up there for the captain spot either, even if he's an unintelligent dumbass Goblin. Don't worry about having multiple people "competing" for it - part of what a pirate game is about is having this little conflicts here and there. We're a band of misfits :) submit whatever you want to play, my friend.

Thinking a Human Swashbuckler, because it seems highly appropriate for this game.

Band of misfits is what made me fall in love with this campaign when I started playing it.

Unfortunately, that group fell apart as well xD xD xD (we all became adults, in other words xD)

Also, a Bloodrager Dragon Disciple / Invulnerable Barbarian would be a pretty deadly two man force on the front lines.... I see no draw back there hahahaha.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with! Good luck.

I've had a brief idea about a Grippli Hydrokineticist that fancies himself a... let's say stealth specialist... that might be cool for this.

Radiant Oath

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber

I am quite interested! Most interested in a half-orc Urban Bloodrager!

I would love to play! I got to start this game once but the GM does not want to continue. Which is sad. How would you feel about a Cleric of Besmara?

She would want to get out to sea, that is sort of a religious requirement.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

How would you feel about an Aasimar? I would like to be the Peri Bloodled. I love the flavor on them. And the random list looks like a lot of fun!

I would be a healer and secondary combatant with some buffing of the dedicated combatants.

Giant dot here! I will get something up later tonight. Would be sooner, but wife and her birthday comes first!

Dot :)

I'm submitting G'nasher for your consideration.

Extremely interested! I'll have to figure out what to do though, there's just so many options.

@DavianGralus: Only 1 campaign trait.

@Robert Henry: Guns are emerging. If you wanted to do something with guns we can make it work.

Hmm. Any paizo released races..even from Advanced Race Guide? Okay. Time to make an ogre pirate, then. ;)

I am torn between a Vishkanya gunslinger that may or may not take a dip in unchained rogue and an Ulfen bloodrager, I guess I need to decide what type of pirate I want to play.
