About G'nasher

"Kill 'em all!" G'nasher whispered in draconic. The black masked kobolds in his team nodded silently. The time for retribution had finally arrived.

G'nasher placed his dagger between black stained teeth and silently motioned the signal to advance to his team. Slowly the rogues crept up the ship's rigging. Before crossing the ship's threshold, G'nasher touched the small skull hanging around his neck G'ra, guide my sword. Grant me your strength and fury. By dawn, their hated rivals would rest at the bottom of the sea.

On that moon lit night, death would arrive from the shadows for the drunken pirates. The arrogant humans, whom themselves preyed on the weak and unwary, would learn a new respect for the red scaled killers whom plied the alley ways of Ilizmagorti.

When it was over, G'nasher nodded to his team and wiped the blood from his blades. He took no satisfaction from killing - it was a necessary part of the business they were in. In the Shackles, only the strong survived.

G'nasher turned to his lieutenant and growled, "Disembark the ship. We sail for Port Peril!"

Tonight, they would celebrate at the Formidably Maid ...

Background:

G'nasher was born in the subterranean caverns beneath the jungles of Mediogalti Island. He is a prominent member of the Thunderscale Tribe. G'nasher grew up in the shadows of the Underdark, where he learned undercommon and the essential skills required to survive in a world of predators. Eventually his keen intellect and a insatiable sense of adventure would lead him to the shadows of nearby Ilizmagorti.

In Ilizmagorti, he and his comrades would form their own thieves guild. G'nasher would soon discover his inherent talents for burglary, stealing, robbery and extortion. G'nasher learned to operate seamlessly within a team of rogues. Eventually, he would rise to become a team lead. Fierce competition with other guilds would force the team to align with the local church of Zon-Kuthon. The church of Zon-Kuthon, whom included many members from the ruling Red Mantis assassins, recognized the potential within G'nasher and mentored the aspiring kobold in the ways of the wicked. G'nasher, whom never much cared for morality, respected the order of the church and appreciated the knowledge that it imparted.

G'nasher would become fluent in the culture and language of the pirates whom he preyed upon in Ilizmagorti. Eventually, seeking ever bigger prizes, G'nasher and his mates would evolve to boarding the ships within Ilizmagorti's port and stealing from the city's nefarious pirates. As a stow away, G'nasher would learn the ways of a sailor by watching the pirate crews from the shadows. Now, G'nasher seeks to take his thievery to a new, higher level by becoming a pirate himself.

Personality:

G'nasher is mercurial and a practiced liar. He is ruthless, ambitious and greedy. He is a deceitful manipulator whom excels in the art of scheming. G'nasher is process driven, hierarchical, disciplined and goal oriented. G'nasher has unwaivering loyalty to his team mates.

G'nasher is highly superstitious. He meticulously repeats a litany of small rituals through out the day that he believes bring him luck or ward off curses. He carefully honors the practices of all three religions that he believes in - those of G'Ra, Besmara and Zon-Kuthon. G'nasher holds priests from these religions in high regard and will follow their orders by default. G'nasher devotes several hours each day to praying to each of his gods. He is fond of making elaborate alters of candles or any make shift item that he can find such that he may sacrifice small animals or offer baubles of value to his various patron saints.

Religion:

G'nasher worships G'ra, the god of the world above. G'ra is a mythical tyrannosaurus rex whom embodies the sun and the searing light of day. Like most kobolds within the Thunderscale tribe, G'nasher considers dinosaurs as sacred, and believes that his saurian lineage can be traced to the ancient lizards that rule the Mediogalti jungles above the Thunderscale Warrens. G'nasher will not willingly attack a dinosaur of any kind. G'nasher wears the enameled skull of a compsognathus around his neck as a holy symbol of G'ra.

G'nasher has also picked up the worship of Besmara from the human pirates that he has observed. He believes that their rituals and offerings to Besmara are as necessary to make the ships move as the sails and rigging. G'nasher will take no action on a ship without first offering a prayer to Besmara.

G'nasher also prays to Zon-Kuthon in deference to the Aspis priests whom were so influential to him. G'nasher has memorized the holy text of Zon-Kuthon and is fond of quoting unholy parables to his fellow rogues. G'nasher respects the power of the Aspis ruling class and believes that their authority derives from the Church of Zon-Kuthon.

Appearance:

G'nasher has a lithe, muscled frame. He is considerably taller and stronger than the typical kobold. G'nasher has brilliant red scales and piercing black eyes. G'nasher is well known for his perpetual snarl and brooding expression.

G'nasher believes that the key to success is meticulous upkeep of his armor, weapons and tools. His black leather armor perfectly fits him and is kept mended and clean. His weapons are well sharpened and oiled. His thief's tools are each kept in their own specialized bag or pocket. G'nasher exudes the image of organization, readiness and professionalism.

A night at the Formidably Maid...:

G'nasher crouched in the safety of the shadows under the ale soaked bar room table and patiently waited for his opportunity. The hour was growing late and the humans were approaching a safe level of inebriation. The day will come soon when we no longer have to hide in the shadows.

He then motioned to the blue scaled kobold hiding under the neighboring table. Ready on my mark! G'nasher and his comrades used an elaborate set of hand gestures to silently communicate - a cant known only within his circle of thieves.

G'nasher scanned the bar room one more time for any signs of danger. All around him pirates were swilling ale and slamming shots. G'nasher drew his dagger and creeped under the table towards a particularly fat and drunk pirate whom had a thick pouch dangling perilously low from his waist. G'nasher held his breath and used his dagger to cut the bottom of the purse. Copper coins began to spill out into G'nasher's outstretched hand.

Suddenly the table above flipped over. "Thief! Yellow-bellied, bilge sucking, thief! Cleave 'im to the brisket! Hang 'im from the yardarm!"

A thick, muscled hand grabbed G'nasher by the throat and lifted him over the table. "Thought I was three sheets to the wind, eh? Ye be feeding the fish after yer keelhauling, lizard fingers!"

Suddenly the pirate howled as the blue scaled kobold plunged a dagger into his meaty calf. The man dropped G'nasher and howled as he held his bleeding leg. G'nasher drew his short swords and snarled at the pirate in perfect common as he tumbled for the safety of the tavern door. "I'll see you dead, human! Next time I'll take your life and yer coin!"

G'nasher smiled as he bolted for the safety of the night's shadows. This was how it was on many of their operations. Fortune favors the bold, but tonight we live to fight another day.

Turning back, he could see the pirates chasing his comrade out the tavern back door. He turned back to make his escaped and was stopped cold by a group of men with nets and sacks. A press gang!

Out of the corner of his eye G'nasher saw a man swing a heavy sap. The world faded to black.
