Technically I’m an aasimar (a native outsider) not a human. I wouldn’t normally bother to correct that but, given Rahlmaat’s commitment to amassing knowledge, it seemed like a distinction she’d pay attention to, lol. Also, for a spontaneous caster, I do have a decent understanding of spellcraft.

Ah, I saw "Last of the Azlanti" and assumed human without looking closer. XD Yeah, Rahlmaat would notice the difference... though she might get pedantic and point out that 'aasimar' is not really a separate species, given their clearly proven ability to interbreed with their humanoid ancestry...

Rahlmaat wouldn't really care about a grasp on spellcraft, it's the deep secrets of the universe she's after. If you don't know physics, mathematics, biology, geology, history, the planes, religion, and more to a level greater than elves who have spent most of their lives studying the topics, she thinks your understanding is too shallow.

She's a bit arrogant.

All of my crunch is finished and posted, though I hope that once a group is selected we might (if part of that group) have a chance to tweak our spells known and whatnot. I have not typed up my fluff yet, and it's only now occurring to me that I've made a huge mistake... I really should have posted the fluff first for those who are still deciding which characters they'd pair best with. Shoot. I have some work to do tonight but I'll get the fluff up either after that or during the day tomorrow.

The big, blue, butterfly wings growing out of my back are a pretty big clue, lol

Sadly, my knowledge of the arcane, history, the planes, and religion are only comparable the average elf who spent most of their life studying it, not anything truly extraordinary (and I know nothing about biology, geology, etc).

Okay, I've uploaded all of the relevant information into this alias, instead of just in the myth-weavers sheet.

Character is notably a Jack-of-All-Trades, so she could probably fit in any group and cover any potential weakness.

...Of course, that probably works against her here. I can't think of anything in particular that she might need, so it's hard to really decide a good team comp for her based on anything other than vibes.

That said, I guess any team comp with her on it, kinda automatically becomes a good team comp, lol.

Alright, I (finally) have my fluff posted, and I’ve read everyone else’s.

As for which 2 other characters I think I’d work the best with, I’m not really sure how to answer that question… as I’ve mentioned before I think there’s some really interesting roleplaying possibilities between me and Rahlmaat, and me (and Moonshadow) and Melkyzadyk; in terms of shared outlook/motivations, though, Arykiel is probably my closest match, and I could see myself sort of nursing Erasmo’s fledgling conscious. Amon and Bolvar both seem like they want to help people, so there’s definitely some shared motivation, but there’d also be some room there to explore the friction between their more rigid views and my more freewheeling ways, so that kind of brings in elements from both of the previous two groupings. Honestly, I think I could pair fairly well with any of the other characters except, maybe, Mia and Azal who seem like they might be too dark (or, sort of, evil-adjacent) for Ethulfel to get along well with (though, I’m sure I could figure out something if you wanted us all in the party- maybe I’m traveling with them to keep an eye on them, to make sure they don’t turn into the next threats to the world).

Edit: Actually, I do have another version of this character that I contemplated early in my process who’s a CN follower of Hastur… if you do want to go for a darker party I could switch a few things around and use that version instead (he’d still be a sorcerer/oracle with deific obedience as his background feat, but I’d have to switch around some feats and spells, and maybe his bloodline and/or mystery).

I've updated Mia's backstory a ton, as well as her alignment as a result. I also dropped a Demonic Implant and switched out a talent or two here or there.

Now, she's Chaotic Good.

Her backstory now is that she's pretty much a Robin Hood-esque Pirate who sailed the high seas in search of her Elven Father, a High Mage pulled out of his cozy retirement while she was still young. Along the way, she calmed the waring Pirate factions and became recognized as their leader, the Pirate Queen, organizing them into a threat against even the militias of certain countries.

Of course, wealthy banks did not like that someone was looting their trade ships and liberating their goods, so they utilized their immense financial & magical powers to find and capture her Father, with the intent being to have her give herself up for him in a prisoner exchange.

She agreed to the terms... but her Father did not! At the moment of the exchange, her Father rebelled, and was struck down. But before he died, he utilized the last of his magical powers to send her away, into an alternate dimension demiplane.

There, she refined her magical skill under the tutelage of her Father's teacher, Ceradon, until such a time where she gained the power to leave on her own. But, Ceradon's demiplane exists with the Erratic time trait. Who knows how long she's been gone? Will her enemies, or allies still exist?

To only way to find out, is to make a portal... and step through it.

Just to say, Remember no one knows outside of a god, knows that Azal is LE, I built her so she can play well with others. She presents at all times as LN. Every spell and scry you use will come back as LN. I built her that way as she is Evil with a small E, She fights the "destructive forces" of Chaos not ALL chaos in all forms. As a Lawful Drow she probably stands out more for this than anything.

I sent a PM on my views about the other PMs,

I will play Azal to get on with everyone. As a team who ever gets picked needs to work as a group, At Epic this is a must and we may be spending a lot of time beginning each other back to life. Knowing GM Voice hehe

:)

I guess my character would be focused more on the Good part of Chaotic Good, only really finding herself on the opposite side of an unjust Law system that profited wealthy elite and left poorer people to starve or turn to a life of crime.

She's not inherently against the Law in and of itself, though she refuses to let it force her into doing anything she sees as wrong, whether actively or passively.

She's not inherently destructive, and generally only relies on such when other options have already failed.

I think the two of us could work together.

Plus, Drow are related to Elves, are they not? She might want to learn more about her Father's culture.

Well, this version of Mia is now the character Eth would have the most in common with philosophically, and probably the one he would have the easiest time working with.

I'm guessing that you saw the backstory written out for the previous version of this character, Domina Reigh.

Yeah, that version of the character was more Lawful Evil. She acted as an enforcer for the Whisper, and got rid of members who couldn't keep their mouthes shut and their minds stable. She'd abuse Stygian Metamagic to destroy the memories of her targets. Some would say that was a mercy, in a field where you seek out forbidden knowledge known to be able to cause insanity in those who find it. But then again, I guess you're just trading one insanity for another, huh?

At any rate, I decided to go for a more positive vibe, and switch things up a bit. Plus, since I decided to incorporate spheres, I realized that Stygian Spell wasn't even on the list of Spheres approved metamagic.

That evil character concept definitely worked a lot better with Vancian spellcasting, IMHO. There were a few other evil tricks that character pulled off to do some crazy stuff, but C'est la vie.

Rahlmaat is pretty solidly True Neutral--She cares about solving the "Riddle of Existence", which more or less means she wants to know everything there is to know.

My idea for why she gets involved is that the Runelord... sorry, "Sinlord" owed her mom a book. :D

Mia Reigh, the Phoenix Blade! wrote:

That's exactly what happened- I even read the name and was like 'hmm, Mia's kind of an odd nickname for Domina, but I guess if you went to Mina first it could get shortened again' lol.

If anyone's curious, here's an image for the other (darker) version of Ethulfel: the yellow prince. He'd have a lot in common with this version, mechanically, but his bloodline would shift to void-touched (the wild-blooded version of starsoul), his revelations would change some, and his spells would include things like black tentacles and suffocation (and inflict spells on the oracle side instead of cures). And, instead of using a starknife (which is Desna's weapon) he'd use feats to get the telekinesis sphere (from spheres of power) and use that for combat. Also, instead of VMC cleric, he’d spend those feats on bard, which would up his knowledges and sense motive considerably (I wanted to do summoner but its execution seems just awful).

edit: I didn’t get far enough with him to check the benchmarks, so he might be over some of them, but he’d also be noticeably worse off in an anti-magic field than this version

I definitely prefer the Desnan version of Ethulfel, there's no need to 'go darker' for this game.

Sounds good, High Stargazer Ethulfel it is!

My darker PC would have been Captain Cheliax, veteran against the Glorious Revolution.

366 posts and the game has not even started yet, wow

Commander Azal-Ki-Lin as Aroden's Avenger No that dark, just a force for justice.

368!

There is a LOT! of investment in the PCs from what I can see. So a lot of the game play I feel will be Roll playing interaction between them. We may know of each other but may not have spent time knowing each other. Kind off "I know you by reputation". kind of thing. I did wa few test roll plays to work out my PCs personality. She is a Drow noble with a large amount of mass combat experience, So has a Officer personality you get with someone who has seen death on mass, whole trying to keep moral up.

Would it be worth, have all PC play the meet and greet, GM voice, you did it before at the Inn at world end. Let the players stretch and flesh out a little so you can get a feel of what they are like. Only a suggestion but with this level of PC investment, it may be a nice reward.

I have a personal rule of never RPing during recruitment, the reason being that when I do, I get too much investment on the PC and then if I happen not to get chosen, it feels extremely bad.

Aside from that, with just a single PC still not finished (I think), I believe we do need an end date for this recruitment.

Games are all about momentum in PBP and if we stretch the recruitment for too long we end up wasting it here instead of in game.

Fair point,

The last few days(since Wed), my tinnitus has been just gods awful and has heckin wrecked my sleep schedule. I think I have a head cold, which makes it worse. In fact, I never actually slept yesterday.

I'll announce my picks later tonight, as I have my IRL Forgotten Realms game soon!

... Well bugger. This is what happens for putting off building my character. I lose track of time, and when I come back to double-check when recruitment ends, it's ending right now.

Good look for everyone who made a character. I guess I'll have to try my luck next time.

I don’t want to ‘favorite’ that post (from VoA) because not sleeping sucks, but the hope of finding out if we got picked tonight is pretty exciting. Good luck, everyone!

Even if not picked I had a great time making Bolvar. It was actually enjoyable sitting down and thinking through it all. Unusual recruitments are a treat.

Best of luck to everyone! Know that it was also fun reading through your submissions.

Good luck everyone! I’m putting together a Recruitment post for Monkeygod’s Gestalt Wrath of the Righteous game that should be ready this week. That might be another chance at a slightly-less-epic-but-still-epic game for those of us who don’t get in this one. :)

Anyone else checking the thread way too often, hoping to see that picks have been posted (and that you’re one of them, lol)?

*Drumroll please!*

The following have been chosen to meet their fiery doom in the depths of Hell!

Ethulfel Umbrada

Bolvar Gemforged

Erasmo Oakkeg

Rahlmaat

Arykiel

Melkyzadyk

I'll get up a discussion thread momentarily.

Panic, I seriously appreciate your hard work with the compiled characters posts, and actually like Azal a lot. I had to limit myself to six players though, and even then I worry that might be one too many. We'll see.

Should somebody drop for whatever reason, you'll be first on the reserve list! Thank you again for your help!

Stay awhile and listen!

As much as trying to join both might be pushing it, I'm looking forward to that.

Thank you GM Voice, it was Fun just making PCs at this level to be honest. And to be counted equal to such amazing players on this thread. That's very kind of you to offer back up place, I don't wish anyone to prop out for my sake, so to all selected have a great time. And to everyone not selected, some amazing PCs, so if you wish, see you on...

@GM Eriktd

I shall see you there GM Eriktd, soon as recruitment thread is up :) For another fun time building.

I've posted a recruitment thread for my Epic Wrath of the Righteous (with extra epic) game! As I say in the notice, I'm initially opening it just to everyone in this thread, with a pretty quick deadline (this Friday evening). If enough of us here are interested and can put together applications by then, I'll cast it and get us started. Otherwise, I'll extend it until February and open it to the general population of the boards.

I hope to see some of you there!

I'm not surprised that Mia wasn't chosen. Figure I squandered my chances when I mentioned that I could do like, 2k damage by spamming automatic spell criticals. Making every enemy immune to criticals probably doesn't feel too good as the DM, even if it would be effective.

Well, do feel free to make use of Mia as a villainous DMPC, if you wish.

I have every bit of confidence that she could give a party some trouble if played to the full extent of her abilities. Let me know if you'd like some pointers as to her mechanics, if you chose to go down that front.
