Here's a wild outlier case... mine mis-generated as Priority Mail, but with the First Ten discount it was only going to be 60 cents. It was just "corrected" to "cheapest possible" (standard postal)... and is now 8 cents cheaper, but will take twice as long to arrive. D'oh!! ;)

Luckily, the PDFs will trigger at the same time, either way, and that's plenty for me! The maps and pawns in physical form won't really see use until we've finally made it to the Post-Apocalypse, so they're free to spend a little extra time in the postal system.

I'm taking a look at some of the other shipping methods now. Warehouse has, to my knowledge, only started on domestic Mail Innovations and UPS.

Also totally fine with the Priority Mail on my order- just excited to see the PDF!

I got a shipping email, and all my downloads. Shipping for a single six pound package, Redmond to Rochester, NY, was $18.19, minus $10 for the shipping discount, so $8.19. I'm guessing that's about right now that Paizo's updated their shipping cost tables. :-)

Could look at it this way: since a dollar is really only worth about 4 cents, shipping really only cost me about 33 cents. :-)

Not that this is the place to discuss this, but I'm just 2 hours south of Rochester!

Mine regenerated and now my 1 lb package is ~$5 instead of ~$14, which is reasonable and in line with usual. Thanks Team Paizo!

It's absolutely no trouble at all! As a software engineer I just found the whole thing to be a funny corner-case... this is the sort of problem I have to deal with all the time, and know how crazy-hard it is to design a system that could ever possibly guess what the "correct" solution is in that scenario (hint: you can't... humans are nuts about the way they prioritize different factors).

I'm perfectly happy either way, but thanks for looking out for me!! :)

My July order shipping seems to have been corrected (thank you for that), but now my August order is showing $33.20 instead of $19.04. Oy vey.

Just as a heads up, as we figure some of this stuff out, you might see future subscription shipments' shipping and handling go up. We're looking at current international orders, and it is looking like several locations are/were being underquoted.

Please also keep in mind that the EU has new VAT requirements and many places are cracking down on making sure international orders are getting taxed.

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber; Pathfinder Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game, Starfinder Society Subscriber

My subscription is set to cheapest possible, and my order still says USPS Priority instead of Mail Innovations.

My Paizocon hero point token is also still stuck in my sidecart even though I ordered it when they were in stock, according to my order email. But that might be water under the bridge at this point.

My international order (36534607) went from ~$40 total across two shipments to ~$90 in one shipment, is this correct? ~$60 shipping for a book and a map seems a bit excessive, even for international, considering 10 items last month was ~$90. Can someone have a look at this, please and thank you :)

Just checked and my shipping on a 1 lb. package (1 AP and Junker's Delight) dropped from $12.81 to $4.86. Excellent, thank you.

Well! That was a neat surprise!

Bonus:
Got my AP delivered today, and inside was an Adventure Card Game Promo Fire Sneeze from the Rise of the Runelords ACG AP.

Thanks!

Mine regenerated correctly with standard postal delivery. Thank you very much for y'alls hard work.

One of the items must have had the weight/size overestimated. My shipping method was correctly selected and was estimated at $30 higher than it actually turned out being. So that was a nice surprise. :)

Just to let you know that my order is showing at over $11 shipping for a single AP volume, more than double what if was last time I just had a 1lb package. (It's showing as Mail Innovations International.)

Hi, so can you confirm that the shipping cost for Italy (EU) of a single AP volume has increased from $5.65 to $15.72?

Should I expect the same amount for shipping cost to Italy in the future?

Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Hi!

Same bad surprise on my end: the shipping fee went from $5.65 to $15.72 for just one AP volume (to Belgium, EU), with the "cheapest method" option selected. That plus the import tax nearly triples the price of the book.

Is that the correct amount?

I've the same issue. Shipping jumped from the ~$5 initially shown to $17.

RPG Superstar 2013 Top 32

Yeah, same here, between the authorization and the shipping my shipping and handling increased from 5.65 to 12.20.

Since I was not given any sort of heads up about this and opportunity to decide if I was ok spending that sort of money that's not ok. As you don't include the final price of a shipment in the shipping e-mail I wouldn't have known you had increased the price without telling me if I hadn't taken the time to check the thread here.

What is going on with shipping with you guys? This is two months in a row things have been screwy. I'm starting to question the value of the subscription if this is going to continue.

I'm affected as well. $15 shipping for a $17 AP volume.

Dear Paizo, I'm sorry but I have to agree on that. If, for any reason, you have to increase S&H costs from 5.65 to 15.72, as is my case, you have to provide a heads up. I've been a subscriber since the Council of Thieves AP, albeit with a pause, but I feel quite obliged to reconsider my subscription if S&H is suddenly tripled like this.

I don;t have any inside information, but I think it's safe to say Coronavirus is whats up with shipping. There's a severe squeeze on ships, actual cargo containers, and port space for loading and unloading. That means anything that goes on a boat is more expensive and probably delayed. It's not just paizo, it's everyone.

Oh, the delays I understand, and totally accept. It's the random price changes that I don't.

You missed my point I think: It's not paizo changing the price, its the international shipping companies. if you look back a few pages you can see the paizo rep talking about how the shipping price charts have been updated for them and they've gone up (because it's a sellers market for shipping so prices are up across the board because of the shortages)

Let's try to clarify. Even if an increase in shipping costs is due to external factors, perhaps even legitimate ones, this does not mean that it is okay for me to receive the order spawning email with $ 5.65 in shipping costs and then in my order history I see a charge of $ 15.72. It is not the money that makes the difference, it is the way in which it was managed.

Now what I am wondering is this: will these be the shipping costs that I will have to expect in the future?

While we're talking about shipping, I have a question. Is the estimated shipping for future subs also impacted by the errors that were seen? I'm seeing next month (SoM and the AP) more than the month with three APs, Malevolence, and the Mwangi book. (I'd post this in the August thread, but it doesn't seem to exist yet.)

Speaking professionally and with no insight into Paizo’s particular shipments, I would say yes.

It’s actually worse than I thought even a month ago. I had assumed a slight recovery around February 2022, but now forecasting for shipping is seeing delays through February 2023.

Now, Paizo’s particular shipments may be just fine; this is just general information on what is going on in the background with global logistics.

I would not anticipate spending much on Christmas this year. There may literally be not enough to spend your money *on* in stores.

And, weirdly, when I go into my account to look at upcoming subs, I see the APs and Adventures... but no SoM.

Just to confirm that I too am seeing the same thing this morning - Guns & Gears shows up in my active subs, but Secrets of Magic is missing. I had the APG cancelled last time around, but the sub is still active and it isn't showing SoM as cancelled.

Actually, mine is no longer showing SoM and the part 2 of Strength of Thousands... Could be because the auth will be soon since those are the August products?

I don't get why with all the huge shipping problems they don't just release the PDFs on time.

Pathfinder Adventure, Adventure Path, Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

FWIW, I believe a CS rep previously stated that it's entirely possible the following month's order doesn't show up in the My Subscriptions page until either closer to order creation, or perhaps even the day of.

For example, I'm missing the Strength of Thousands #2 AP and the Secrets of Magic books for this month (I'm guessing for a tentatively planned release date of late August). My assumption is that this next order is simply playing ghost in the machine right now.

Similarly, as with others, the single Adventure Path: Strength of Thousands #3 that shows up in my My Subscriptions account (presumably for a September release) shows a projected $10.+ shipping charge, slightly more than double what it should be. Again, I assume this is just some weird hiccup of the machine, and I hope future orders are able to prevent the scenario of extra charges that plagued some July releases.

It's definitely worth keeping an eye on your upcoming August shipping charge to make sure things aren't wonky again.

Pathfinder Maps, Pathfinder Accessories, Starfinder Society Subscriber; Pathfinder Roleplaying Game Superscriber

Well up until yesterday both 2 and 3 were tagged as pre-order expected early august, not they say last week in august and sept respectively. so it looks like they were doing a lot of behind the scenes work right now. I'll be a little shocked if the 'august' shipment in ready before the first week of sept.

I think you've answered your own question. I know this has happened before at least once or twice that I've noticed. That said, if spawning dates are to begin soon, it would be great to get an official August thread so folks have an idea of what's shipping out and hopefully what day. However, It could be that Paizo is still waiting on some or all of the August product to arrive before revealing anything more.

Sara Marie or another CS rep is likely to update this thread sometime before the end of the Paizo business day today since it's Friday. Hopefully we'll get some insight on what to expect for the upcoming August orders, their potential spawning date, and maybe even see an August thread pop up.

They do, PDFs go live on here on the street date.

For Subscribers they release when your order gets shipped, whenever that time may be.

Interesting. So your future shippable subscription items actually have dates attached to them? Mine don't, although they fall in between my Pathfinder Society digital dates. The Society stuff does gives actual dates, though it's digital and they can just shift those around however and whenever necessary. However, My Strength of Thousands #2 and Secrets of Magic are completely missing from my Subscriptions section. And Strength of Thousands #3 just says, "1 item. Expected to ship in an unknown time frame"

While I'm prepared to see shipping delays each month, I don't necessarily think it is a guarantee. It's entirely possible Strength of Thousands #2 and Secrets of Magic both arrived shortly after the container with July's stuff, which we know was running late. How that translates to Paizo turnaround as they try to get back on schedule each month is anyone's guess. But it wouldn't shock me if we see a relatively quick turnaround month once or twice throughout the remainder of the year, sandwiched in between more potential delays.

I more meant stuff that's getting its street date pushed back because the physical books are too expensive to ship with the insane shipping container prices right now.

OR, just a thought, you could wait a week or so, since you're not entitled to the free extra additional as a nice perk PDF on a specific date. Not to mention the physical book.

Malevolence was delayed by over a month because the shipping container it was in got stuck in customs. But my enjoyment of reading this great adventure isn't any lessened by the wait.

As much as I'd like this, Paizo has said numerous times why they don't.

Releasing the digital books when the physical is delayed hurts relations with their physical store partners, who only have the option to release the books physically.

Releasing the digital book early also increases the chances of the book getting pirated before the physical book is release.

Lastly, when you don't know how long of a delay you are dealing with, releasing the digital would be a huge issue. Ruby Phoenix for example, all three books were released at the same time because of the container delays. As much as digital users would love to have gotten their books normally, the physical users would be stuck for 3 months with nothing, and potentially having to avoid 3 months of spoilers as the digital world has their book.

The selfish side of me wants the PDF as early as possible. But realistically, I want Paizo to do what is best for their business. If NOT releasing the PDF when the physical book is delayed is what is best for their business, it isn't my place to argue a subject matter I know nothing about.

TLDR; Let Paizo do what's best for them, we can wait.

Just to clarify, you're asking why releases can't be put out on time digitally, when it's clearly the shipping issues holding things up? For example, Secrets of Magic, tentatively scheduled to come out August 25th, could see its release date pushed back another month due to shipping concerns. Your point is that Paizo could simply release it digitally on August 25th, as planned, and then just sell/send the books when they show up?

I think there are several reasons. As far as I know, you can only grab the PDF versions, legally speaking, through this website. Paizo would be undercutting the sales of their books by doing this, possibly even jeopardizing business relationships with their brick & mortar retailers. If the PDF is put out early in advance, it's possible that customers would flock to it first, leaving little money for the local shops once the physical books started to show up.

It would be tough on subscribers, also, because as things currently stand we wouldn't receive our PDFs at all before the books ship out. That means a person that just buys the PDF could have their copy weeks or even a month or more before we receive ours.

Of course, they could ship out the PDFs to subscribers at the same time they go live to the general public instead of waiting for the books to show up. But at that point you're just gong to get a lot of folks canceling their subscription because if they've already been sent a free PDF, why bother with the books?

One possibility is to come up with a pre-paid plan for the books, and thus the PDF. For example, my order spawns for my book, and in the process I can download the PDF on the determined release day. But instead of charging my account and sending out the book a few days later, the charge acts as a fully paid, non-refundable prepayment. In exchange for this for this full payment, I get the PDF on the date, even if the book shows up weeks or months late. This is similar to how I pay for a statue at a place like Tweeterhead, which charges me an NRD (non-refundable deposit) equal to X% of the final statue price. The NRD helps provide the company with some guaranteed money should I at some point decide to cancel my order. In this case, however, the entire cost of my order (book/s, maps, etc.) could be a NRD, ensuring Paizo that they get their money.

The above example is something I personally would be okay with, but not everyone is conformable committing money that cannot be refunded on a product they won't necessarily have in hand for weeks or months, even if they get the PDF on time. Just as important, this idea still doesn't help the relationship with retailers, as they'd be behind the curve when it comes to the ability to offer something to their book-only customers in a timely fashion.

But I don't think it's a bad question, especially when viewing the process with an eye toward the extended future. Somebody above mentioned shipping issues the world over could carry on through February 2023. That's an entire year from original estimates, and a full 18 months from now. I know you'll get some snappy answers that talk about patience; everyone is so full of preaching, pushing, and peacocking patience. And with good reason; right now things seem plenty manageable for Paizo, their products, and us customers. But folks are already showing signs of getting punchy. And it's probably a bit easier for some folks to preach and practice patience when budgeting for monthly releases may not be a big issue. Others, living paycheck-to-paycheck, with a very tight budget, might feel the strain of month-to-month start/stop delays on products much easier, or quicker. The system is fine now, but is it sustainable for another potential 18-month grind? I don't have the answers, but I definitely think it's always good to have alternative solutions, if not on hand, at least discussed, especially when it comes to businesses and their survivability.

I don't think it would hurt book sales. Physical books are a niche thing in todays world and if someone is buying the book its cause the specifically want or need a hard copy. No one is buying the book solely for the content when the content is cheap in pdf form or free with paizo's blessing on archives of neyths. Making the pdf available early when the hard copy hits delays wouldn't make people who want the hard book not want it anymore.

It would harm relationships with B&M vendors, and that would seriously damage paizo's ability to do business.

I think it is a sign that they have let a certain pre-auth process start running. The subscription section then goes wonky until your auth is completed.
