Mostly magus right now, but also the geomancer and elementalist stuff sounds interesting. Also hoping the extra spells will help the divine list catch up to the others.
The delay is probably because either through policy reasons, technological reasons(bad/inflexible software), or other business decisions they ship all their product lines' subscriptions in a batch. There's some limitation that stops them from having more than one set of subscription orders happening at the same time.

lol I'm dealing with playing the playtest Magus for now. We're lvl 3 so it's not really behind the curve yet. Rebuilding the character when I get the subscription pdf.

that's a good point.
I find it hard to believe there are many people out there who are willing to buy the hardcover for 50$ but if you told them its delayed a month they would suddenly refuse to buy it and go with the pdf instead. And yes physical books are obsolete and niche when the content inside is legally available for free. You only buy the hard copy if you specifically want it, not because you *need* it. People who buy the book will still buy it.
I don't think it would hurt book sales. Physical books are a niche thing in todays world and if someone is buying the book its cause the specifically want or need a hard copy. No one is buying the book solely for the content when the content is cheap in pdf form or free with paizo's blessing on archives of neyths. Making the pdf available early when the hard copy hits delays wouldn't make people who want the hard book not want it anymore.

I more meant stuff that's getting its street date pushed back because the physical books are too expensive to ship with the insane shipping container prices right now.

Do subscribers get the pdf when shipping authorization starts? not sure how that works.
Playing a magus right now and I've found two things that are pretty nice. If your gm allows it, Android is a great race for a magus. +Dex/Int, -Cha
If you're an Android, a good out of class spell for Spell Blending seems to be Greater Make Whole(regular Make Whole is 10 min casting but Greater is a standard action. It's a 4th level spell but you can recall it for 2 pool points if you havent given up imp spell recall. 10d6+10 self healing that can be used while doing spell combat and still contributing damage. If you're in a real bind you could use your 1/day uses of Empowered or Maximized arcana for a big boost of self healing in an emergency. This would be a house rule but if your gm allows it, Intensify. Intensify species damage but a lot of gms could be convinced that it would work on healing spells that do dice/level(not a lot, but there are a few).

I guess you do have a point there. You could wield a 1h weapon as a straight magus and just 2h when you aren't using spell combat, like when you have to move and then attack/cast a touch spell. For a str magus what would you suggest doing to keep AC reasonable until you get good armor? You aren't going to need more than 12 dex but with a chain shirt you're stuck at 15 AC outside of buffs. While you get a lot of buffs/day with spell recall you still can run out.
I don't think armored battlemage is bad. I'm thinking of trying one out. The play style seems different, but not bad. Use a 2h weapon since spell combat is the only thing that required a 1h weapon. Power attack, high str spell strikes. You'd do more consistent damage when damage spells aren't available or applicable(immunities, SR, golems, etc). Thanks to not having a -2 to hit from spell combat on medium BaB, power attack is a lot better. Especially with furious focus. I agree that buffing armor isn't quite as good as buffing weapons but you could use that to help shore up the action economy loss from spell combat. Instead of casting shield, which you can't do while full attacking, you could buff your armor. It's not as powerful but it's a swift action and doesn't cost you a 1st level spell. Or you could use both if you're in a tough fight. Armor training is pretty nice to have. The character is coming in at 4th so I've got a Breastplate at full speed. At 8th level I'll have full plate with a 3 max dex and full speed. I think it's a different play style but it's still not bad. I do wish there was a way to get medium armor at level 1 through a feat. Or even level 3 with an arcana. It hurts to try a str magus stuck in light armor for 7 levels. I'd play it more of a spell casting tank. You're a big enough threat to draw enemies' attention but you're also in full plate with armor training, swinging a big 2h weapon, and throwing buff spells and fireballs/shocking grasps.
The party is non-human with a Goblin(LN) and a half-orc(LN) as well. The LE Inquisitor is Duergar and the CG Rogue is Kitsune. I can't believe anyone would speak to them. That's a weird assortment of miscreants. I wouldn't say letting him be killed was overly evil if it doesn't happen all the time. What else were they going to do? Let him go? So he can pillage and kill some more? A good character letting an evil doer free who he knows is going to kill some more is evil too. |
