Mr Clint's Languard Recruitment

Recruitment

You find yourself in the Orc’s Head Tavern. Found in the Low City of Languard You might be staying the night after your ship has come to port, drinking away the memory of your recent loss of fortune while playing “The Dragon and the Thief,” or perhaps working up the liquid induced courage to ask that guy or gal to dance since you walked in under the stone bust of the Orc’s Head.

One of the bar maids spotted you come down the stairs and pointed you to any table. She strolls up, sits on the edge of the table; “What will it be for you, hun? Wine or ale, and the meal is sausage, cheese and bread…”

Character Creation & Expectation:

Core Races & Classes (totally cool with Pazio official archetypes as long as the racial ones don’t cost RPs) (Feats/Spells/Equipment/Talents/Etc from other books are allowed as long as it is Paizo official.)
Stats: 15 point buy – min/max all you’d like but play it
Favored Class: Skill, HP, & Racial Bonus (yes all three)
No Background Skills
Traits: 2 Traits and 1 Drawback.
Starting Gold: Class Average + Class Kit
Alignment: I say “Any’, but you have will have to work together. And, as in real life, if the friend group doesn’t like you… you might get left behind.
Posting Rate: As I said in the about me, I will be checking in twice a day. I don’t expect you to post more than once a day. All I ask is that each post gives others a place to go off of to move the story forward. Think “yes, and…” when it comes to improv. Also, this is text based so please be as descriptive as you can when making your post. Let’s paint each other a clear picture.
Maps/Theater-of-the-Mind: I’m about 50/50 on this. If a map is needed/requested I can and will provide one.
Find an image that goes along with this character so we can see who you are. I will find an image for most NPCs you come across for visual aids.

I think that’s it?

A Little of Me:

- I find myself in a season without a group. I have moved away from my play group and need a little gaming fun/interaction.
- I began playing in 3rd and played a Fighter/Paladin that, along with his Monk/Rogue & Druid/Wizard companions, helped saved the lands of Kalamar from demons, devils, and dragons. My character fell into a portal never to be seen again…
- Since then I have mostly played Pathfinder, but have dipped my toes into a season of D&D 4e and D&D 5e. I really enjoy the 3.x/Pathfinder system.
- Married, 2 kids, and a dog. So, I will mostly be posting in the mornings & evenings when everyone else is asleep.
- I am open to questions, feel free to ask away!

Once you have a character made up, jump on into the gameplay thread and let's see where this goes.

I am not running a time for submission, that will be our session zero RP time before things really kick off.

See you there!

Silver Crusade

you said core classes, does that mean only? Or could I submit a magus?

rorek55 wrote:

Core races and classes only. I will allow the Unchained versions of those core classes, but you can take the standard core version if you'd prefer.

Welcome to the boards Mr Clint.

Curious, nice map on the city. I'm not familiar with Languard. Will this be a homebrew world or something familiar to pathfinder or D&D players. That may determine the next question; what pantheon or deities will you be using?

Also, Is this product a single module, a sandbox game put together with other locations or more like an adventure path? What is your plan/endgame on level or length of the game/story?

Consider me very intrigued.
* waves * Hiya, RH.

Hey Robert! Just Clint is fine by me.

The setting is from Raging Swan Press. I purchased a bulk digital collection of their stuff when they did a massive sale and figured I would put it to use.

They have a whole world that we could possibly explore, but I figured I would give it a go with a little session zero "you're in a tavern" RP time and follow that up with a one shot before going deeper.

They have their own pantheon, but to keep things simple I am going to be crossing over the Pathfinder deities to ones that are closest to what is written. Keep it simpler for those who are not familiar with Raging Swan Press.

So, an adventuring party, "grown" organically rather than assembled, and venturing off into adventures unknown, in an almost open world environment just sitting there to be explored? Count me in.

I'll work up a character over the next day or so. Not sure what yet, but I see that you have a Dwarven Paladin already... so probably a Wizard type.

Counter that. (Plastic Dragon here...)
Worked this one up and ready to go. Human Wizard of the Conjuration disciplines, heading to the tavern for a drink...

Dotting for interest! I don't know yet what I'll come up with, but I'll think about it...

Maybe a Barbarian!

Hmm... sounds interesting. Thinking about a bard.

One question: do we consider that the character still bought the class kit, or does it come for free?

Great Question! The class kit is free. Class average in starting gold + class kit.

Can we get whatever class kit we want?

I am making a bard, but her background is that she used to be a thief, and I can't afford a bow and thieves' tools and arrows on the 105 gold... but if I get a thieves' kit instead, then it trades out the musical instrument for thieves' tools, which would work better for her backstory. What do you think?

Obviously, she could just go without lockpicks... finds out her old ones are too rusty to use, or whatever. Just checking what your guidelines are. :)

Zanbabe wrote:

In this situation I would be okay if you would rather take the Rogues Kit instead of the Bards kit. Thanks for asking! A bard would be fun... Not that I want to jump in on your creation, but feel free to insert your PC as one of the musicians that are currently preforming in the Orc's Head Tavern.

Awesome, thanks. :)

I too am going to do a bard, but so as not to interfere with your inspire courage, I'll use something else so we aren't being redundant, Zanbabe, unless you were planning on a class that doesn't utilize it, then I'll keep my abilities the same.

Sczarni

I'm thinking an elven rogue. Itinerant wanderer, hopeless philanderer who thinks he's amazing with the ladies, gentlemen, and all in between, who constantly strikes out.

He remains annoyingly optimistic and confident besides this.

Crunch TBD, but a basic unchained rapier rogue with daggers to throw.

psionichamster wrote:

Just wanted to give you fair warning, there is currently a dwarf unchained rogue in the tavern. I am okay with doubles, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

Currently we have a:

Dwarf Paladin (Stonelord)
Human Wizard Looks like Conjuring Wizard.
Dwarf Unchained Rogue
Human Arrowsong Minstrel Bard

I know we have the possibility of another bard that has a history of thieving, but they have not entered the tavern quite yet.

I also think Robert Henry, Ythiel, and Rorek55 are still maybes.

Sczarni

In that case, I'd probably go fighter, either human or half-orc.

Hey Nempura... my bard will be using inspire courage, but almost everything else is gone with templates. I'm doing Brazen Deceiver / Sound Striker, so she'll be specializing in singing and bluff.

(And I don't care if you can also do Inspire Courage. I would consider that a good thing. I'm not one of those players that gets mad if you do "my" thing... I'll just think of something else to do, promise.)

My Bard is almost done, and should be finished soon now that I am not distracted by work. :)

Do I see a Dwarven Stonelord and a Dwarven Rogue? Well, going to throw a Forgemaster Dwarven Cleric into the mix.

Presenting Helgar Runetamer.

Background, Appearance, Personality:

Background
Helgar is a cleric who hails from a long line of famous smiths. The mark of the Runetamer Clan is to create an item worthy of the Clan's name. When a member of the Clan completes their apprenticeship, they are expected to leave the hold and not return until they have created such a masterpiece. Helgar is in just such a position. She has made her hammer, but is nowhere near ready to actually make a permanent rune. She knows that it will likely be years until she is able to do that. In the meantime, she needs a few things. Work, a drink, and someone to share it with.

Personality and Appearance

Short and stout, like all dwarves, Helgar would fit in within any dwarven city. Though where most are stoic and dour, she is instead quite pleasant to talk to, avoiding conflict when possible. She is, without a doubt, not a leader, and looks for strong personalities to follow. That said, she can be as stubborn as any dwarf, especially when a friend is in danger.

Party Role: Primarily casting and buffing. Will wear heavy armor and have a heavy shield so she can stand on the front lines as needed. For the most part she will focus on buffs, such as scribing runes on armor (given that the class doesn't have channel energy). I've never played a cleric before, and tend to shy away from casters. So if chosen then it should be interesting.

Current 'trick' is that she gets Lead Blades. Usually 1/min per lvl to increase weapon size. Goes up to 2 minutes because of her archetype, and then doubles to 4 minutes for extend spell. Meaning that it can probably last 2 fights. Should become more useful as she levels up and spells naturally last longer.

<--Okay, here's Zanbabe's submission. I think she is done, except for the racial favored class bonus, which I just don't like. If I can swap it out for something else, great... if not, I'll probably just not mess with it.

Are you seeing what characters gel together and picking a group of (?) from those that are hanging out in the pub?

Sounds good. I'm finished updating. You do you. I'm settled :)

Grand Lodge

Here's my Barbarian! His character sheet is available on his profile. Any advice or recommendation is welcome! :)

Little bit of Backstory:

Spoiler:
The eldest child of a modest but respectable family of shoemakers, Conrad never really made his parents proud. Years of saving for their son's education went down the drain when it became apparent that, even if he ever learned to be a little more attentive in school, he would never succeed at any kind of academic studies. He even lacked the discipline and patience to be a good craftsman.

Conrad did try to support his family. For years, he made a living by applying for any jobs that might need a pair of strong arms. To make ends meet, he even participated in fist fights at local taverns, getting some money from those who betted on his victory. It was the activity he enjoyed best- too bad it wasn't exactly one that was compatible with a stable position. Sometimes, he'd come back home beaten and a little too bruised to be welcomed by his parents' screams, laments and admonishments, and inevitably get fired the next day.

And the cycle of self-hatred would continue.

It all changed when he found Shelyn. Or, rather, Shelyn found him, in the form of a beautiful young woman in a priestess' robe. She had the kindest smile he had ever seen on the face of someone who looked at him. She had asked him if he wanted to buy a statuette- something to do with helping to fund a local chapel. And she had laughed when he had said, stupidly, that she and the sculpted woman looked like sisters.

Without thinking, he had bought the most expensive statuette. And then he had walked to the nearest library, and had asked sheepishly for some books on the cult of Shelyn.

It transformed him, to know that there existed a goddess offered unconditional love for creating good and beauty in the world. It gave him a newfound sense of purpose. He wasn't an artist, by any means, or a silver-tongued diplomat, but it didn't matter. Now he knew that he had potential. There were things he was good at. It had just never occurred to him that he could refine it into something that would make a goddess proud.

There was/ an art of fighting, after all.

About his drawback, GM:

Spoiler:
Typically the Attached drawback is at the GM's discretion, but I thought we might discuss it beforehand, to figure out what it might be? Based on the concept idea behind Conrad, I assume it has something to do with the cult or the values of Shelyn.

If you want it to be a person, then maybe he could develop a crush on a PC or an NPC. I picture him as pansexual, so anyone of compatible age could do regardless of gender.

My initial idea was that his most prized possession might be a Holy Symbol of Shelyn. I greatly hesitated behind wooden or silver, based on which one would be more likely to be destroyed, before thinking that, devoted as he is, maybe he would cherish something a little rarer even more. I assumed he would be terrified about it breaking or being stolen, and keeps it safely rolled up in his blanket in his backpack, which he would have organized a little to make sure the statue doesn't risk being bumped or crushed by the weight.

It's also not specified in the rulebook whether the statuette has to be pure silver or an alloy of silver and another metal, but the latter would make it less fragile and easier to carry for an adventurer.

Those are all merely suggestions, and I'm eager to hear what you think! :)

Conrad is welcome to attempt to form an attachment to Nempura if he so wishes. I'm not sure if it will be mutual, but she would likely have some really nice boots (perhaps from his family), and does have a single emblem of Shelyn pressed into the leather of them. Like in her picture, they are custom and as unique as the rest of her outfit, both designed for being effective for travel and looking good on stage. She is currently singing a duet with Zalona, the elf. If you wish, perhaps Nempura has come into possession of a silver holy symbol of Shelyn and seeing the barbarian worships her, gifts it to him? This could then be a two-pronged attachment?

Ps. Hi, Selkyon!

Yeah, I will say that this has grown a little more than I was expecting. I suppose that is partial ignorance on how people respond on here.

But yes, I am going to see how things gel and go from there. Maybe have a split of a parallel universe and run two groups... we shall see.

Thanks for running the game, we players really do appreciate it. Good luck with your game and good gaming all.

So, a question. Is Variant Multiclassing Allowed? The reason why I ask is because crafting when adventuring is really hard, mostly because of the downtime that it takes. But I stumbled across this combination.

Master Smith
* At 5th level, a forgemaster can craft mundane metal items quickly, using half their gp value to determine progress, and can craft magical metal items in half the normal amount of time.

And, if she goes VMC Wizard to get a familiar at lvl 3, and picks the Valet archetype...

Able Assistant (Ex)
A valet’s master treats the valet as if it had the Cooperative Crafting feat and shares Craft skills and item creation feats with the valet.
This replaces alertness.

You can assist another character in crafting mundane and magical items. You must both possess the relevant Craft skill or item creation feat, but either one of you can fulfill any other prerequisites for crafting the item. You provide a +2 circumstance bonus on any Craft or Spellcraft checks related to making an item, and your assistance doubles the gp value of items that can be crafted each day.

----

Creating an item requires 8 hours of work per 1,000 gp in the item’s base price (or fraction thereof), with a minimum of at least 8 hours.

Cooperative Crafting would make it 2,000 gp per day. Master Smith would make it 4,000 gp per day. Meaning that it would actually be feasible to do weapon and armor upgrades. I don't plan on taking craft wondrous items (she's a smith, afterall) but it would mean that her crafter role would be much easier to pull off.

Completely understand if the answer is no. But if it is yes, then her familiar will be a ioun wyrd, because there is nothing more dwarven than having a pet rock.

Grand Lodge

Hi Nempura! I hadn't even noticed that you were Pelipe! :O It's good to see you again!

(I also noticed Zanbabe, from my Reign of Winter campaign- hi!)

I do like the idea that Conrad might crush a little on Nempura from afar...(Especially as the Selykon/Pelipe ship never quite sailed, to say the least) Problem being that he didn't worship Shelyn before being gifted (or paying for) the statue!

Nempura might have been the woman who gave it to him, and then they met a second time at the tavern. Ultimately, he might have just seen her around, recognized her as a Shelyn worshipper and generally been struck by her formidable appearance and easy-going personality. He isn't used to people showing any kind of interest in him.

If Nempura visited the Mendelson's family shop:

Spoiler:
The family business is not big by any means, but it does have a good local reputation for selling quality products at a reasonable price. Currently, the shop is managed by Conrad's parents who, while not particularly old, already sport the weary air of those who have gone through some strong hardships in their lives. Conrad's sixteen year-old sister gives them a hand to run the shop.

On Conrad's looks and personality:

Spoiler:
While it is not unreasonable to think that Conrad's plain features might have once been agreeable to look at, a few years of taking punches to the face did a lot to mess them up. His nose has clearly been broken once or twice, never to heal back to its initial state, and he's missing quite a few teeth.

Which, come to think of it, might be why he always seems awkwardly tight-lipped when he smiles.

The rest of him is rather unremarkable, which some scandalmongers would call a mercy. Short and scruffy hair, of the same indifferent brown as his eyes. Slightly taller than average without towering above most men, but quite broad-shouldered. Well-defined muscles beneath a worn-out leather armour that could have worked well in his favour if a different head was attached to his shoulders.

Other than that, he's got a personality that remind people a lot of a bowl of soup. Sure, it's none of your fancy, imaginative stuff that you get from the gastronomic menu just to taste out of the ordinary. But do you know how hard it is to find the perfect, warm, honest bowl of soup, that can last you through many a winter's night feeling cozy and cared for? One that has been spiced just enough not to feel bland, and is careful not to burn your taste buds right out of your mouth? That bowl of soup.

It's a pretty nice one.

Hey Ythiel. :) I'm not in your Reign of Winter (never been in a game of that unfortunately, but I think we were in Terra Nova together before that died (sad... it was such a good world).

Grand Lodge

Oh yeah, I mixed things up! I remembered Zyren, but thought she was part of Reign of Winter, not Jade Regent.

We did, indeed, play in Terra Nova as well! I do miss it. I hope GM DoctorEvil is alright. They disappeared so suddenly...

I could see Nempura potentially visiting the Mendelson's shop, but unless she knew you were a Shelyn worshiper, she likely wouldn't have been the one to gift the statue then. It is possible Conrad saw Nempura around and just picked up on some small details, that or some people just catch the eye more than others. She does have that presence and kind approachability to give him a chance.

Silver Crusade

I'm trying to decide on a class. I've played many of the core classes to death... That said, maybe a cleric or paladin? Are we using pathfinder deities?

rorek55 wrote:

Core class only. So... Barbarian, Bard, Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Rogue, Sorcerer, and Wizard. I am also okay with the Unchained versions of the core classes. Also, I am okay with Paizo official archetypes and racial archetypes as long as it doesn't increase the RP value of the core races.

Silver Crusade

You got me before I went back to re-read through it! Darn. lol.

No worries, there has been a lot of activity today. Which is good and exciting!

Silver Crusade

Well, I almost wish to play a monk, but the 15pt buy really hurts.... I'll see what I can do. I want a class thats not represented yet in the applications. So fighter is also something I'm considering.

Silver Crusade

Would you be open to allowing chained monk archetypes for the unchained monk?

He says in the original post you can take the chained version

Silver Crusade

I'm going to go for unchained monk. This setting seems different, so if you can give me some idea on where he could have learned how to fight, or potential orders/styles he could follow would be nice.

I originally saw him as having left whatever order/monastery etc he had trained with, and that he had become a "street fighter" of sorts, but depending on if the setting has anything to do with monks I may consider them.

But it's okay, maybe there'll be an opening later! :)
