Any updates on when this will be legal for Pathfindere Society/Guild play?

Knowing paizo, you'll need to cast augury with goat guts, mail them to whoever is in charge of organized play, and hope the smell can awaken them from the spell cast upon them.

The last update we had on this was that it would be measured in months. *Maybe* we'll see something by Christmas (I know Starfinder side that's the push for the next big update) but we don't have a firm timeline for PF2.

I point you to the blog:
https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6sgzr?Pulling-Back-the-Curtain-on- Organized-Play

It should come out as soon as the AcP system is fully implemented. Since most of the stuff contained in the Players Guide & World Guide are Uncommon, they are probably going to be gated by the AcP system.

While none of this tells you when, it does give you an idea of where they are at.

I believe Monday the 25th, they finished the fixing of the PtP system which manages the Playtest points, and the above blog talks about the AcP being modeled off the PtP, so hopefully we do not have too much longer to wait...I am excited for some of the options too.

To stay consistent with the setting of Golarion, it might be more appropriate to consult the Augurs in Kaer Maga.

As with everything, resources are limited. You need to prioritize correctly revenue generation, market expansion, and customer retention. If some issue of higher priority comes up, they need to deal with it and let projects like sanctioning new content slip. Thus, it is best to think of the timeline presented, a couple of weeks from the end of October, as an optimistic placeholder.

All project plans require placeholder dates, it is expected that they will change as each step in the project sequence is completed. We do not have access to the project plan (with its green, yellow, red status updates) to see what the new date and it's confidence assessment.

It is unfortunate that the timeline has slipped because most of the people I talk to have said they will not purchase the Lost Omens guides until they see what if any of the content is sanctioned. However, we do not know the overall market (not just a small group) differential impact on product sales that PFS sanctioning produces.

I think most of us understand all of this, but are just asking for more transparency. unfortunately it seems like PFS leadership has adopted “Radio Silence” as a default communication strategy. At this point, I’ve given up asking anymore, there are no updates forthcoming, and asking draws the ire of the militants on the boards. For what it is worth, PFS is basically now dead at my FLGS, nobody wants to wait a year to play with the new and shiny toys.

I've noticed a continuing decrease in the few PF2 players here in Denver as well. I'm fine with playing with just core book stuff, but others were spoiled by the amount of content in PF1 and are tired of waiting for the new PF2 stuff to be legalized. They're moving on to better things.

Tonya posted in a blog in late November discussing our issues with the AcP system. As this was a vital component of our total sanctioning strategy this directly impacts our ability to release the sanctioning documents.

In late October, Tonya posted a fairly detailed update of the sanctioning process to date.

A little over a week and a half before that, I released a blog talking about some of the sanctioning work and opening up a conversation with the community on ways we're looking to increase the pace of sanctioning, as well as the first sanctioning documents.

About a month and some change before that, we all crawled back into the office following one of the most grueling and intense GenCon launches any TTRPG has had, ever, where we launched a brand new system with more supporting adventures and material than any other TTRPG I'm aware of has ever had at launch.

We need a window to ensure our GMs can actually run this brand new game before we start giving them more things to keep track of. We have had tech issues that were beyond our control and which have and continue to introduce delays in the process that we're just as (far more) frustrated about as you are. We've released the sanctioning documents that didn't touch the AcP framework at all to try and keep some momentum going. We've spent time on numerous other activities that intersect with this process, and we've written multiple blogs to try and keep you all as up to date on the process as we can. The one thing we haven't been during this time is silent.

We all understand the challenges and are impressed with progress. We who post on the board about PF2 and PFS2 are by definition supportive of your efforts and look forward to any progress

The problem is that PFS2 (PF2 based) was always going to have an issue with weaning players from PFS1 (PF1 based). They had 10 seasons of scenarios, a wealth of character options, and many issues had been addressed.

Now you have a new system with only a few scenarios, not very many character options, and a number of unaddressed issues including an alchemist class with serious playability issues. Errata is one thing, fixing playability problems is another and that is what is irking a lot of people

The scenario quantity is understandable but still will delay uptake. Lack of sanctioning character options when these have been released already causes more problems especially when people start thinking in terms of delay length.

People are dropping PFS2 around here since they are saying if the GmG and APG are released in 2020, they won't be sanctioned until 2022 at the earliest given their size and the rate of sanctioning for a smaller release like the LOWG or the LOCG. Finally, the impression was that with a new system, PFS would be integrated from the ground up and that sanctioning would be very quick.

@Michael, I'm not questioning your motives, but I'm not convinced of your methods.

I get that there have been technical difficulties getting AcP to work. But aren't you guys letting the perfect be the enemy of the good?

Instead of waiting until you had the infrastructure for enabling some uncommon options, you could have already said "well, the uncommon is coming Soon™, but the common options from LOWG and LOCG we can enable right now".

Put together with Starfinder which hasn't had an AR update in a year, and it starts to look like you're betting on one ginormous update. But we'd be pretty happy if we had a small manageable update every other month.

Interesting. Considering that nothing was sanctioned for the 1e version of GMG and that it is not really a player focused book, why are people expecting it to be sanctioned for PFS in the first place?

Sounds like they are setting themselves up for disappointment....

It sounded like it was more the quantity of material that needed to be reviewed and not the GmG itself. My understanding from their comments was that books like the GmG needed to be examined for rules interaction (I never really thought too hard since I personally did not play as much as they did). Good to know that the GmG will not need to be looked at by the PFS staff to check for rules interactions and can safely be ignored. I like PF2 so I am marshalling the arguments that it won't be as long as they think

This actually sounds like a fair compromise. It fulfills the need for new sanctioned content without having to wait on the initiation of the AcP.

Like others have reported, the PF2 is slowly losing steam. Not because they have exhausted scenarios or the options of the new CRB, but because some of the options in the Lost Omens sources are so damn GOOD! Players are used to having their toys and are spoiled by the previous iteration of PFS. Throw us a bone. As I've been saying for months: help US help YOU!

Dark Archive 4/5 *** Venture-Lieutenant, Finland—Turku

At least locally, PF2 is gaining steam, not losing it. Issue isn't really new players needing new options to use in order to be lured in, but rather, the veterans of PFS1 and those who've are active in following all things PFS2 and been playing actively. I know our relatively small lodge has at least a couple players who don't want to play their characters before they can pick up the (hopefully legal) new options from the Lost Omens World Guide.

Luckily, one of those is an active GM so his blob just keeps growing older while he waits for the right dedications to become available.

... I have to admit that I want to apologise for sometimes being one of those kids who just keeps asking "are we there yet?". I've been impressed with your communications in organized play, and I know you're working as hard as you can to bring everything up and running.
It's just... Hard to sit tight and wait patiently when there are so many things you care about and are passionate about.

This is why I kept saying the old hardware/software needed to be replaced to accommodate the new features being implemented.

There is no reason for PFS2 to lose steam. We're gaining more players in our area of Missouri/West Central Illinois.

Okay Micheal, maybe “Radio Silence” is too strong a term, but allow me to retort.

You pointed out 3 blog posts over the course of what, 6 months as being what you consider to be transparent? Wow, just wow. This is something I cannot even find the words to respond to. And that came after 3 months of telling us absolutely nothing, there was no communication at all. So you are right, 3 posts in 3 months isnot silent, but not transparent either. And I will point out that that communication started after fans like myself begged for it for months. Maybe it was planned from the beginning, but maybe it wasn’t.

Additionally, let’s agree that your launch was quite ambitious, no doubt, and nobody will begrudge you of the time to get your feet under you, but let’s also look at some other facts if you will. Starfinder Society Additiona resources last updated December 7, 2018, Pathfinder Society “Classic” addition resources last updated April 4, 2019. “New” Pathfinder society additional resources posted at launch and never updated. So I think my frustrations are at least somewhat warranted?

You wanted to make sure your GM’s could run this game? Okay, let us put aside the contention that this is proported to be easier than PF “Classic”, now your GM’s are staring at nearly 6 months of new material. Are you going to drop it all on them at once now, I wouldn’t envy them if you did, but more likely it’ll be released in penny packets over time, preventing anything from ever catching up to the release schedule.

Pathfinder excitement locally has gone from
The playtest is boring and we don’t like this at all
Hmmm, the previews are intriguing
Okay, the CRB seems alright, but we’ve been playing fighters with long swords for years
Alright, now we’re talking, this is some interesting stufff
Oh wait, can’t use it yet....
Okay, should be available in a few weeks according to the blog post...
I dunno, maybe at Paizocon?
Let’s just play something else...

You guys had a gas can in one hand, but decided to use the fire extinguisher instead. The technological issues prevented you from rolling things out the way you wanted, any consideration of the low tech fallback, get up to speed when you can? I get that you are all likely more frustrated than I/we are, after all, this is a game to us and a career to you. I thought New Pathfinder Society had a great opportunity to improve upon the way things were done in “Classic”. Thus far, it’s all the same, just with the number 2.

Even the forums have changed, I used to come on here and see threads about different topics, lately majority are people wondering about sanctioning.

TLDR You have not been silent, and it was unfair for me to say so. But neither have you been transparent, neither in word nor in deed.
I also would like to point out that you engaged me to defend your staff, and thus I responded in kind.

People talk about decreased activity in their area (like I do) and wonder if this is a sign that PF2 is slowly losing traction while others see increased activity and say that PF2 is doing great.

The reality is that we individuals have no real idea about the overall uptake in PFS2e (nor should we). All we can do is provide feedback about we hear and see in our area. I am sure the VOs report the monthly totals so PFS leadership can actually track uptake. I have not counted exactly the number of people who sign up and play but by rough estimate we still have at least 50+ semi and regular PFS1e players in our area and probably 10 players (including 2-3 GMs) for PFS2e. The 10 players are regulars and it is not really growing

We have given feedback about what we hear and the frustration that we feel so that is all we can do. I will continue to ask questions and comment on the forums but I have done all I can to provide feedback to PFS management. Good gaming my friends

You can't expect a Blog update every week. That alone takes time to draft up. October/November/December is enough to explain what's happening and why.

It's also a question of perspective. To company that keeps pushing out new adventures every month, a monthly update feels reasonable.
To a player playing every week, or missing a game every week because they want their character to have that cool new background that isn't legal yet, waiting 4 weeks for new news feels like an eternity.

PF2 has breathed new life into my store. I’m regularly scheduling 2 tables each of 2 scenarios a month with mostly players I’d never seen before (also 1 who had stopped gaming for over a year). I’m currently trying to figure out how to offer more content (either a Plaguestone run or a quest/repeatable as a 3rd week) without completely shutting out a very diminished 1E player base.

When I spoke briefly with Tonya at PAX Unplugged, it sounded like she's aware that there's a growing disconnect between what feels like progress internally(slow but consistent progress on getting all things AcP/Glyphs/tech working) and what's viewed as progress externally(get stuff sanctioned), and it sounded like she had a couple of ideas for addressing it. I'm not sure if we'll see anything concrete before the holidays hit us, as timing is tight.

It does feel like their current approach is too dependent on the tech team for the amount of time/priority they can get.

One hundred percent.

Which is something that, in my eight years experience with Paizo, I have always viewed as the weakest link:

• The PRD was terrible and never updated on time.
• They had to outsource the PRD/SRD to archivesofnethys.
Years of waiting for the simplest Faction icons to be implemented (totally hoped 2E would start off with them; still waiting).
• Inability to edit FAQs.
• Inability to edit Additional Resources.
• Routine annual crashes.
• Drama with moderators.
• Delays with digital assets.
• Constant editing errors.
• Constant reporting errors.
• Literally *never* resolving reporting errors.
• The current PtP/ACP holdup.
• And honestly probably a lot more that I can't think of right now.

I love Paizo's potential, content, employees and vision, but their reliance on their weakest link is a PR nightmare.

Agree that I love the people and product. Also agree that IT is the weakest link. But that is because decision made by upper management.

IT costs money and it is not a revenue source. A business decision has been made to use the current IT solution and the cost to change that solution is likely prohibitive.

I know, people will say that IT drives away business because it drives away customers. Logically, that is true. But how much is actually lost? The answer to question is very difficult to answer.

The decision makers at the top need to put some money into the IT solution of the company in order to advance the company as a whole. Since Paizo is a publisher, not an IT company, they should reach out to an expert in the IT commerce area to take over the website.

I don't see this as happen. We have been promised by the higher ups that Tonya would have an assistant. As far as I know, that has not happen.

Well, for Starfinder, about this much as Starfinder is now up to date through COM. For PF2 it looks like it might still be a few days since that is now tied to a different process to try and relieve some of its reliance on Paizo's in-house tech team and free them up to focus on higher priority tasks. The fact that you don't use a communication channel does not mean that staff weren't communicating with their fan-base.

If you choose to limit the methods by which you acquire information, don't blame others because you have limited amounts of information. It's not their duty to copy/paste every bit of information into every channel they use to communicate.

That kind of massive cross-posting would be pretty close to spamming those channels.

Respectfully, I disagree. If I want to disseminate information to my team, I can send e-mail(Twitter posts in this case), post notices in the breakroom(Facebook and dischord), or even on the office bulletin board(forum posts), but unless I discuss it in the pre-shift huddle(I would call this the blog), it hasn’t been officially mentioned.(I don’t check work e-mail, I just go straight to the department, I go out to lunch etc.) Pointing me in the direction of where to go and get it is fine, and no, I don’t expect everything to be crossposted everywhere, but there should be one place to solicit information where it is all available, not just catch as catch can. Getting information from leadership should not be the reward for performing a scavenger hunt.

Sorry, but you've been told there's plenty of information available. You basically are demanding that your wants be met regardless of the facts that others have expressed to you. Org Play is more forthcoming than ever before and that's a big improvement. If they took the time to respond just to you in the way that only you demand, then they would be taking more time out of their schedules.

Here's something you don't get. The process of SYNERGY is in action here. By conversing with others about the game and Org Play, the team is articulating and engaging their thought processes while bouncing ideas around. That helps them use critical thinking skills while also seeing thing in multiple perspectives. This is definitely resulting in better changes for the PFS community as a whole. The information is being posted fairly well. One of the major problems they have right now is out of their hands regarding technology (the lack of it) and they can't give us an ETA because they aren't getting one from the folks working on the problem. Let's see, the Paizo forums, Arcane Mark, the Arcane Mark Discord channel, Jason Buhlman's Twitch stream, Jason's Discord channel, the Online PFS Discord channel where devs visit from time to time, Facebook pages, and I know I'm just touching the tip here.

The take away from this should be that Paizo has consumers that would like information that will likely affect their purchases and are having a hard time finding it.

Knowing paizo, you'll need to cast augury with goat guts, mail them to whoever is in charge of organized play, and hope the smell can awaken them from the spell cast upon them.

Please don't. As I want a few days off for the holidays, it will leave a terrible smell in my office for my return.
