PtP Update and November Releases: New Reigns, New Lands

Thursday, November 21, 2019

Before we proceed with this month’s Pathfinder Society releases, we wanted to update our community on the status of the Playtest Points (PtP), which is holding up the launch of the Achievement Points (AcP) system.

We believe we’ve found and corrected the logic errors responsible for the inaccuracies in the PtP buying system. At the same time, we’ve introduced some upgrades for the administration of the program. These are both important steps on resolving the outstanding issues. While we haven’t gotten the boons attached to the purchase button – that is involved in a more comprehensive overhaul – you can find sample copies of the boons linked throughout our site, including here. These changes go live on Monday, November 25, 2019. At this time, we are zeroing out all PtP purchases made from launch to date and putting those points back in your PtP pool. We ask that you repurchase any items already bought. You do not have to rebuy any item for your character, but must remove the associated PtP assets that aren’t rebought.

One other note – after bouncing about on the schedule, the Organized Play blogs are moving to Thursday starting December 1st. Tune in then for another update on the program, as well as our celebration of our community.

And now, I hand the blog to Linda, who will give us a sneek peek into our scenarios releasing next week.

With many of us in the United States getting ready for a feast next week, it’s time to talk about what the Pathfinder Society team has cooking up for you in November!

First up, we have Pathfinder Society Scenario #1-08: Revolution on the Riverside, brought to you by Kalervo Oikarinen. Journey to the tiny River Kingdom of Artume on the trail of a hidden chapter of the Pathfinder Society’s past. But this mission isn’t as simple as retrieving old records. Artume’s people have recently deposed a tyrannical ruler, and a young new king has risen in his wake. The Pathfinders find themselves wrapped into a political situation balanced on a knifepoint, one so tenuous that the PCs may well be the ones to choose the kingdom’s fate.

Young new King Edryd with wild red hair and a sword at his hip, dressed in noble finery, for Pathfinder Society.

Take to the seas in this month’s second adventure, Pathfinder Society Scenario #1-09: Star-Crossed Voyages, by Paizo editor Lu Pellazar. The land of Vidrian (until recently known as Sargava) wishes to rekindle an old trade relationship with the iruxi city of Ekkeshikaar to the south. There’s only one problem—the last time Vidrian’s ships sailed that far south was before the massive and unrelenting hurricane known as the Eye of Abendego fundamentally reshaped the coastline and changed the currents. With vague references and scraps of old maps as a guide, the PCs and a contingent from the Horizon Hunters, including Calisro Benarry, sail south to chart a new course. The journey doesn’t go according to plan, however. After strange currents, sea monsters, and a mysterious and bizarre phenomenon pull the PCs off course, they need to work with newfound iruxi allies to find their way back.

Iruxi Astrologer with a large red feather affixed to spectacles on its head, wearing brown robes and holding a sexton with many glass lenses for Pathfinder Society.

And last but not least, this month’s delightfully-named quest: Quest #4: Port Peril Pub Crawl. Join the merriment in Port Peril, a thriving port known as a haven for piracy. When the rum flows and tempers flare, these pirates aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty in a pub brawl of epic proportions. This repeatable quest features three different drinking establishments, each with its own flavor of mayhem. The author of this playful adventure is Paizo developer James Case. In case you missed the announcement in Tuesday’s blog, James Case has recently joined the organized play team, and we’re all super-excited to have him on board.

Halfling behind table for Pathfinder Society.

Will Iruxi be available as a playable race by the time Star-Crossed Voyages is released?

Given that they're an Uncommon ancestry and therefore likely to be boon-locked behind the AcP system, I'm guessing that's a no. But I suspect you already figured that :P

Ooh, that quest sounds like a great introduction for Skull and Shackles!

Does that mean we can start exploring Ramlock's tower, or do we need to wait until next week?

I wonder what THUNDERLIPS! has to say about this.

Is this update also going to correct the Achievement Points issue where GM sessions show up as 1 point instead of whatever they're actually supposed to be? Or is it limited to Playtest Points?

I heard a theory that the "Uncommon" hashtag just made it so you couldn't be Adopted by them.

But boon-locked is also a possibility.

Exploring Ramlock's Tower is.....underwhelming as written. 10 uses of downtime to get a starting level consumable. Another 10 uses of downtime to get a slightly higher amount of gold than one use of downtime. And then another 60 uses of downtime to get....well, if you're doing scenarios you can't get another 60 uses of downtime.

Perhaps this was supposed to say "For every day of Downtime you spend on this task, check a box below"?

Wording not perfect but it has to be days. Nothing else makes sense.

See this this post in a thread on the boon for the math for either a Pathfinder Training or Field Commission agent using the boon immediately (level 1 = starting level) assuming the 'days' interpretation. It sounded underwhelming to me, but after doing the math its pretty good.

Need to re-run at a couple of higher levels to see if its worth saving a bit (starting at level 3 to get your +1 armor for free for instance).

Is there anything that can be done with playtest points that were recorded on the original paper form and not in the system? I have several games - including one run by John Compton at Origins last year - that were never reported online.

Awesome! Love these boons! One minor thing:

I think "River Kingdom's Excavation" 80th box is supposed to say "permanent magic item you have access to" or "common permanent magic item", but maybe not?

We're still expecting to see PtP reset today, right?

Yup, there it goes. Boons refunded/PtP restored. Just rebought my items, increased costs look correct now (aside from single purchase items like Veteran Explorer that shows 2400 for a mythical second purchase)

How do we print the boons for the characters now that we have repurchased them?

4/5 ***

That bit doesn't work yet, just print and fill out the sample one for now is I think the only solution.

Great news! Now all I need is for the play test points I had, that mysteriously disappeared, to be restored...

When will those requests be completed?

Thank you for sharing this information with us.

Do we know if the Nov scenarios will drop before Paizo goes on Thanksgiving break? I think the release date was listed as today, but its starting to feel close to when I would expect West Coast places wouldn't be making changes before the holiday.

Grand Lodge 4/5

I received my drop, so hopefully the script runs properly for everyone else.

I'm assuming that was a VO-based drop? Should that inspire confidence that subscription based ones are likely being processed too, or are they completely different processes?

My subscription ones just dropped. Surprised by an after COB west coast time on a holiday weekend, but yay my Saturday game can proceed as planned.

Any updates on the PtP or the AcP getting corrected and when the boons will be available?
