Something's still very sluggish moving between sections of the forums, or between the forums and other parts of the page.

Also, all paizo pages (including my account and purchasing pages) are loading http, not https. If you don't want chrome users freaking out over the big "Not secure" comment in their url bar, you need to get https encryption back and forced.

Oooh, the "hit post and the page reloads without your post and you have to back out to the category to make sure you post went through" issue is back.

Hey folks, the team was able to push the fixes earlier today to address some of our most frequently heard issues (missing tabs, PM notifications, missing bold fonts in certain browsers, and starting new product threads). At this point, I know folks are probably getting focused on our other big announcement, but I want to assure you that we are still chugging along at ways to improve the site.

In the immediate future, our new frontend developer Andrew and I are taking a hard look at specifically the navigation elements. There are aspects of how it's built that need some fine-tuning, some styling revisions, and a tad more future-proofing that I'd like to see.

We are aware of some straggling missing content. Specifically this afternoon, you'll see the store categories begin to normalize.

So I know you're working very hard on this, but here are some ideas I have (and feel free to put them in the usual bin for "free advice"):

Unsolicited Advice:
At the moment, on your home page you have a very nice, concise 5 tabs and a search bar. I applaud your home page for its simplicity.

Personally, I would have focused on why users come to the site:

  • Curious noobs: I would have had a "Learn More" tab first and foremost, with a few nice little blurbs about what RPGs are, some history, and just neat stuff to attract new users. Plus a way to get to the Beginner's Box, because from everything I've heard (I've never played it), it is THE best introduction to RPGS out there.
  • I'd have put the Store second, because you need to make money.
  • Third I'd have put Resources, with links to the PRD, FAQs, and any other useful resources.
  • And I like the Community last.

  • Notice that I don't care for Starfinder and Pathfinder on the home page. I think that users navigating to your home page are either curious, shopping, trying to look up a rule, or being pesky on the forums. I don't see a need to separate the two games at that high of a level.

My issues arise the moment I click on one of those tabs. I've been playing Pathfinder for 7 years now, but when I click on the Pathfinder tab and get a list of 14 different places to go, many of which are unfamiliar to me, I get wary. For example, what is the difference between "Rulebooks" and "Sourcebooks"? Why are "Rulebooks" and "Online Rules" two separate categories? And many of those links take me directly to the store. So if I clicked on something other than "Store", why am I going straight to the store?
So I understand your line of thought: "We'll provide shoppers with a very easy navigation to the type of product in which they're interested."
The trouble is, having it at a top-level menu with a separate Store menu frustrates me. "All links lead to store" is not the impression you want to give people.

I think the navigation is reasonable once you realize what you're looking at, but the incredibly-precious online resources (PRD and FAQs) need to be much easier to access, and the "all links lead to store"-i-ness needs to be reduced.

    Hope you find that helpful!

@NobodysHome Thank you for your feedback, this is especially helpful! I agree that some sections have some way to go in terms of their function. Our intent long-term is to provide more information-centric pages with contextual nods to the store where it is appropriate, which should alleviate some of the concerns you've brought up.

Beautiful! Exactly the right direction, in my opinion, then!

One of the things I’m vicariously enjoying in this rollout is smart people able to provide clear feedback on what they’d prefer changed and why. I can’t break it down beyond “I like this” or the opposite. I really enjoy seeing people able to put the theory to work. :)

New(ish) bug in Chrome today: When I click in the text box to add a new post, it doesn't expand automatically anymore. It still does when I click Add New Post or when I preview what I've been typing (because I can't see more than six lines at a time).

Just wanted to say thanks for the effort thus far put into modernizing this website. As a web developer myself, I can appreciate not only that there will be a period of glitches both great and small, but ultimately I like that you're probably intending to make the site work well and legibly on mobile devices going forward (I noticed the site now uses Bootstrap). That'll be a huge plus.

What do you mean "going forward?" It was great on my phone already. In many ways better than it is now. Now it might be preference for "better" to be applied to most of those reasons (I.E. how much text on screen at once), but you make it sound like the site was unfriendly to mobile and it really really was not the case.

Bug report: If you try to use the bigger tags, the text actually gets smaller. (At least on Chrome 64.0.3282.186 and 65.0.3325.146, Firefox 58.0.2, and Safari 11.0.3 (13604.5.6) under MacOS X High Sierra.)

You guys had a big announcement?

    ;)

More seriously, I was experiencing similar problems to Joana's in Firefox earlier with the box failing to expand. It seems to be working normally in this thread, but when I was doing PBPs a couple hours ago and just not while trying to post in a thread in Community Use, the box isn't expanding.

ETA: Clicking preview (or editing a post) seems to get me the larger box to write in.

    Bug
Clicking the "show" button underneath the text entry box for revealing formatting code does nothing.

Yup, and that is new. It worked correctly after the first major update.

The error in the debug console is:

    Quote:

TypeError: expandInlineBlock is not a function

    rzs2ux1d&page=8:1:1
    onclick
    http://paizo.com/threads/rzs2ux1d&page=8:1:1

I just noticed. We have nothing under our names. I know some folks, such as myself, put a link there to our announcements thread or similar.

The gender/race/class boxes from your profile only show up in the Play-by-Post forums. That is not a changed behavior.

Oh. Just shows how often I leave that part of the forums. :)

Well, perhaps that should change though. As I said, it is a link to my announcements, which can have value beyond just the pbp folks.

I've got the same "Show" button problem. Clicking it doesn't show anything. (the button under the text entry box)

Clicked: My Account -> My Profile
Showed my main profile with all the tabs

Got two headers, organized play and regukar (paraphrased)

But both caregories were empty. I tried tapping, but nothing happened. (please don't make me tap).

We've done some troubleshooting on this and have narrowed it down quite a bit but still haven't found the particulars. I'll spend a good amount of time tomorrow trying to figure it out. This is likely related to the same thing that's happening occasionally with avatars. With aliases if you reload the page once or twice, it should show up. With avatars, you'll have to go back and click the button again.

Seeing the same thing. (Firefox 58.0.2 under MacOS X High Sierra -- haven't tested the other web browsers yet.)

    Broken link?
Tried clicking "Paizo" in the forum path under the last message, but it took me to the no-store page.

Also, what forum to the techie guys most frequent, cause I have a question about the pdfs.

Ive also been getting the Paizo/nostore page a lot in the last several hours. Each time it only lasts a few seconds (which makes me think it’s some kind of glitch on my end).

It appears to be particularly easy to produce by following a link in the “recent threads in....” sidebar to a thread I’ve previously visited. It got to the point that I’m now going to the forum first then back into the desired thread.

The website feedback forum is the best way to contact the tech team. It sometimes takes a few days for them to see it (and given current shenanigans, I’d stretch that out to a week or two at the moment before bumping it).

Thanks Steve for replying to the question. We (The IT Team) do frequent the forums, specifically this one, on a daily bases but don't always have time to answer each post. If something is urgent we will reply and try to update status on the situation when time allows.

I've encountered a glitch. When I scroll down through the forums page, the black bottom bar (with the Paizo logo, etc.) appears midway down the page in the middle of the forums, rather than at the bottom. Just a heads up, not sure if anyone else is seeing this.

The issues with avatars and aliases sometimes not showing up ahould be fixed. Thanks for your patience.

The top line of the page (I'm looking at the forums) has the links "pathfinder" "starfinder" "store" "organized play" and community". When I'm looking at the main forums page, with "focus" selected, all but the last two letters and a little bit of the d in the "pathfinder" link are cut off. Safari latest version, latest High Sierra update. when I'm looking at this page (the last page of this thread) the links are all in full view.

Would you be able to post a screenshot of this behavior or email a screenshot to chris.lambertz@paizo.com? I think I understand what you're saying you see, but want to be 100% sure.

The little gray border surrounding content excludes the forum topics in Off-Topic Discussion. The section header and a horizontal line are within it, but the topics themselves are free-ranging it beyond the fence.

Just noticed what seems to be a new bug: On the main Forums page, the Website Feedback section won't expand, so you actually have to go into that sub-Forum to see the contents (even if you just posted something there). Not sure yet whether some other sub-Forums have the same problem.

    Let's see if this works.

Nope. Let's see if I can figure out how to put it on imgur.

    Yeah, that works.

It may not matter. In taking the screenshot, I ended up zooming out a bit and the problem went away. I thought the text was a little big. Don't know how I got zoomed in so far. Doh! :-)

I noticed that the new blog posts on the front page today have their respective product line icons overlaid. Thanks for that - a minor change that makes a big difference!

    Liberty's Edge

Unsure if this is an issue for others but the community page now takes me to a blank page. I have to google paizo forums to get here.

    Scarab Sages

When at the home page for the forums, the "forums" are on a tab still labeled "messageboards."

And I also get Viviolay's error when clicking the "Community" breadcrumb.

    Liberty's Edge

I think I realize the top toolbar doesn't work when accessing the website from my iphone or ipad (so a mobile device).

having problems gettting into the pathfinder store on my iPad. The Starfinder One is Fine as far as I can tell. But clicking on any of the sections in the pathfinder store just leads to the home page or a blank page with the usual banners and stuff

It would probably be useful for someone to verify the individual store links for things like Adventure Paths. The individual links for the various groupings don't work. They redirect back to the main adventure path page. The listings are available at the bottom of the page however for individual products

I just noticed that the show button below the box to enter new posts doesn't work anymore:

How to format your text [show]

Pressing on it does just nothing.

Just want to 2nd this...I tried to access the pathfinder miniatures in the store to purchase a few things and am unable to navigate to them. I keep getting rerouted to a page that is blank except for the header or to the main paizo.com page.

In order to fix this edit the input button onclick event removing both calls to expandInlineBlock() which is no longer defined in "PAIZO.UTIL". The remaining inline script on the onclick event will properly display the div helper with all the info.

As a side note, the [bigger] tag makes text smaller since the release made the font larger by default (which I really appreciate).

This can be fixed by changing the .messageboard-bigger CSS class to "font-size:x-large" instead of "font-size: 14px" at stylesheet.css so it will always be bigger than the surrounding font and will adjust better to the user device.

I'm still holding out hope we get the sidebars back (or at least an option to turn them back on)

And it would be nice if clicking on 'community' in the top banner didn't dump you on an empty webpage- perhaps rerouting it to the default formus?

I am using a laptop for once, and the text size is readable, but the site is so wide that trying to read is difficult because I keep losing track of which line I need to start when tracking form the end of one line to the start of the next.

Again, letting us set our own width/scale for the site would be of immense help.

You can: make the window narrower.

Right, cause I totally want a thin strip, and that's assuming my browser would actually make the site thinner.

Seriously, stop giving me cheap hacks that don't actually achieve the desired goal.

My suggestion solves lots of sizing complaints.

Maybe they've got reasons for not doing so. Maybe google would bar them from the front page. But it doesn't change the value of the concept.
