Another thing I’ve noticed is that, in the bottom right of the page, just below the ‘all messageboards’ link, there’s a drop-down menu that doesn’t actually do anything and is just empty.

Likely a placeholder for something to be added later. I sometimes link controls to "stubs" when I program. This is a common practice. I'm ignoring it, for now.

I dont care for the new design at all.

Sometimes when the page loads up on my laptop, I get narrow margins. Sometimes I get wide margins, like it's leaving space for the sidebars (and look! there's the shopping cart box!). And on the desktop, there are no margins; the text box stretches all the way from one side of the screen to the other.

Using Chrome in all cases.

I just have to say, it seems like the new website design could have benefited from the renowned Paizo Playtest Philosphy, and given notice and gotten feedback from the community as a whole. Testing in production... not the way to do things.

That blog Chris mentioned putting up about all the hard work that went into the new site would have been much more useful a month ago than a week from now.

In the software industry, we apply a very simple rule: The new UX design must be at least as easy to use as the previous implementation. If not, it must be rejected, no matter its appearance.

So, I could try to do a click-by-click analysis, but in general:

Wall-o-text:

  • Shopping: I tried to repeat an order for a mini that I had made previously on the former version of the site. Amazon is the "crown jewel" of user interfaces: A product search at the top and a set of fine-tuning selections across the left. I managed to find the store easily enough, but clicking on Store brought up no "miniatures" selection. "Accessories" seemed close, but it only brought me to Starfinder minis. Oh, wait! There are TWO "Accessories" menus; one under Pathfinder and one under Starfinder! Back again I went, and tried again. There I found Minatures and ended up in what looks much like the old store front, but it is significantly more difficult for me to browse and select products on the new site. Since selling things is your primary function, this is Not A Good Thing.
  • The PRD: Outside of the forums, my main use for the site is the PRD. Once again, it took me two tries to find it because "Pathfinder > Roleplaying Game > Rulebooks" sounds like the correct path but isn't.
  • The FAQs: I still haven't been able to find them. They were hard to locate before, on the new site I just gave up.
  • The Messageboards: You've been fixing the links frequently, and my first reaction was, "Where did they go?" Even now, I can't figure out how to get to the top-level forums to see the complete list. I know you provided links and I bookmarked it, but I'm addressing basic usability of the site.
  • Private Messaging: This has become useless to me. With no notifications and having to use a menu item to navigate to get there, I just don't check them, and told people who want to PM me that they'll have to post on a thread I participate in if they want me to see their message.
  • The Sideboards: We need them back.

  • In short, I find the site so unpleasant to try to navigate that I don't bother any more. If it's not on the messageboards or the PRD, I don't go there.

This isn't what you want from a site redesign. Functionality needs to take precedence over form.

OTOH "easy to use" is a damn tricky metric.

It'll be rare for a redesign to be as easy to use as the old version, for someone used to the old version's quirks. Often to the point they don't even think about them. Any number of times I've rolled out new internal software releases to massive complaints from the userbase, only to have the complained about features turn into favorites after a few months. Users hate change more than anything - until it's not different anymore.
Is it easier to use for the new user? Will it be easier for even the experienced user, once they're used to it?

A number of the things in your Wall-o-Text have been specifically acknowledged as bugs and are planned to be addressed. A lot of the problems with this are due to bad rollout, not necessarily bad design.

The landing page for the archive of Faction Talk isn't displaying the threads correctly

    Faction Talk

The links to each faction are functioning, and when you get to those subforums, the threads show.

But the main page doesn't display any threads. Only the pagination header and footer. Page links don't show any threads either.

Not a fan of the visual updates so far. Using Chrome on a 10 inch android tablet, the font used is too big for my comfort, and just browsing through the update feedback threads has left me with sore eyes already, though I don't know if that's the size, colour and brightness, or the legibility of the font itself.
I'll hold off commenting on the technical side of the usability until some of the bugs are squished.

The new site is very pretty!

    But terrible to use.

Want to guess which participant in this conversation still uses Office 2003 on his home production machine? <Grin>

Every month, Windows Updates does something fatal to the Office Compatibility Pack which allows Office 2003 to open DOCX modern format files, and every month I get to repair it. But the menus are still faster than screwing around with the ribbon. And yes, I can compare, because I use newer office versions on both my work computer and laptop, and have for years.

You seem to be under the bizarre affliction that Microsoft produces "software".

Ah, cool- Paizo blogs are on the front page now, so I have a reason to visit it.

    Liberty's Edge

I tried to reach the page for the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Adventures and was redirected to the main page. This did not happen with Starfinder Society.

I was at the Pathfinder Society Roleplaying Guild Guide but could not reach Adventures on the first page.

    Starfinder Superscriber

Found a broken link. Going from the PaizoCon FAQ (here) from question "Where can I go to discuss PaizoCon with other Paizo Fans?" to the PaizoCon forums doesn't actually redirect (here) as expected, but "Paizo OLD" empty forum.

I like the new look. The black font looked sharp, if only if it was more readable.

    Pathfinder Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

The black banner up top is the only remaining aesthetic at first glance -- it's too dark and tries to drag in the eyes, which makes it hard to read the rest of the site.

The 2 biggest issue for me that I pray gets resolved asap are:

1 - All the thread titles are still crammed together with no space between them. I makes the forums very tough to read and, honestly, I've been more or less avoiding them until this is fixed.

2 - Still no visible PM notification on the home page like there used to be

    Yep, that's what I see.

Notice how all the threads in the Product Discussion are crammed together, with no space between them? The old forum layout had space between each thread so the eye can easily distinguish them (which is really just basic layout / typography 101). For example, there should be space between Stephen Radney-MacFarlands name (under the Flip Tiles:Forest Starter Set and the next thread - Adventure Path 127:Crownfall.

    So, it should be this:
Paizo Inc. Flip Tiles:Forest Starter Set
Last post 55 minutes ago by Stephen Radney-MacFarland

    Paizo Inc. Adventure Path 127:Crownfall

    Not this:
Paizo Inc. Flip Tiles:Forest Starter Set
Last post 55 minutes ago by Stephen Radney-MacFarland
    Paizo Inc. Adventure Path 127:Crownfall

As I said, the old forum layout had the nice space between threads, while the new one does not ...

Thanks, Marc. I see the issue now, and we're working on it.

Strangely, some threads I've posted in mark my own post as being 1 new post for that thread.

    PRD IS HERE.

It's not consistently linked, so the best way I've found to get to it is to click on the word Paizo at the top of any page (under the golem image), then click on the Pathfinder menu, which will bring up the dropdown menu list, and select Online Rules.

I'm having trouble with the search feature in the store. It just resets the page instead of searching. Use Desktop version has no effect. Chrome 64.0.3282.137 on Android 6.0

I don't know if this is an actual bug, but I can't find a link to my "My Subscriptions" page on the account drop-down, nor any of the subsections therein, as far as I can see.

I was able to get to it using the search function, however, so at least I have that going for me, which is nice.

I got to it by going to "Account Settings" and then clicking on "Manage Subscriptions". That is a rather convoluted way to get to it, but it is the only way I know of at present.

    Bug report

While downloading a number of files today from my account, I encountered the following error every 5 or 6 downloads. I would click on the link to personalize, download the file, and move on to another file.

"Re-enter Store. You backtracked too far. The application backtracking limit of 30 has been exceeded."

Once I get this, I have to exit completely and restart the Paizo site.

    Bug
If I take too long editting a profile, I get an error about backtracking too far (same one mentioned 5 posts up). Not really new, though it used to take you to the front page or somewhere, but now the time limit is really short and gives the error.

Of course, if you could make it not delete form info for an error, that'd be awesome, but I'm not sure why or when it gets deleted (though other sites can keep the form info filled if you need to backtrack so I know it is at least possible in some conditions).

Hey folks, the team was able to push the fixes earlier today to address some of our most frequently heard issues (missing tabs, PM notifications, missing bold fonts in certain browsers, and starting new product threads). At this point, I know folks are probably getting focused on our other big announcement, but I want to assure you that we are still chugging along at ways to improve the site.

In the immediate future, our new frontend developer Andrew and I are taking a hard look at specifically the navigation elements. There are aspects of how it's built that need some fine-tuning, some styling revisions, and a tad more future-proofing that I'd like to see.

We are aware of some straggling missing content. Specifically this afternoon, you'll see the store categories begin to normalize.
