If you find something broken, please make sure to tell us the url of the page you're currently on as well as where you're trying to go.

There's another thread for chatting about the redesign here (link).

yeah, I was hoping for underlined links in the redesign. They've gotten harder, not easier, to read.

Other than the no campaign and sidebar issues mentioned, my only gripe is links blending into the text, as they're the same colour. But I assume that tweak will be coming in the next few days as the upgrade is completed.

It is certainly...different looking. I'll decide how much I like it once all the bugs have been beaten out.

Is there an indication as to whether new private messages are in your inbox? Because I don't think I see one...

EDIT: Been using Private Messaging. Doesn't look like there's a flag indicating a new message in my inbox anywhere--not from My Profile or from the My Account menu.

I'm editing PFS event #337534 and the "Event is live on paizo.com (Link to event)" link takes me to the "Sorry, there was a problem handling your request. The system administrator has been notified." page.

It shows up in the events list, but when I click on it, I get the same "Sorry" page.

I clicked on some other events in the Events listing and each took me to the "Sorry" page.

One thing I have noticed is after clicking on a thread, it still appears as a more bold text as opposed to a slightly faded one. So it looks like you haven't read the thread.

EDIT: Oh, no, there it is. You have to click on "Forums" in "Community/Forums/Paizo/Website Feedback" at the top left.

Thanks, Joana.

Would have taken me an embarrassingly long time to think of doing that. :)

My only real issue is the lack of sidebars indicating recent posts in the forum threads. I kinda relied on those to stay up-to-date on the threads I've checked out.

This. I also dislike how some links are blue but others(like my name for example, and the campaign links in my campaign tabs) aren't.

The giant black bar at the top of the page is going to be... unsettling.

If I may, what was wrong with the old layout? Is there a way for user to pick which layout the prefer, or at least a way planned for the future?

EDIT: Is it just me, or are there LESS messageboards now?

Going to http://paizo.com/pathfinder/rpg/sourcebooks

linked here for convenience

doesn't seem to show me anything. I presume it should list all the campaign setting books, etcetera.

Wow! While obviously there are wrinkles to smooth, I love the overall new feel quite a lot. I don't know if this is because of the update yet--might be just because not everyone's back online yet--but it feels like pages are consistently loading faster as well--woot on that alone. I like the colors and the font switch.

I do think the default font SIZE in the messageboard messages could be larger (or if there could be a way to bump it up)--it is fine for the menus and such.

I would like, personally, a quicker path/direct link to my profile than having to click on the empty head image and then go down to "my profile"(which yes, I can bookmark in the meantime). I tend to navigate a lot via my profile, both to get to my campaign tab (I prefer the look of it to the "my campaigns" tab with all the info in it) and to check on threads I posted in (rather than have to scan through for them). Some of this may require some changing in habits which is fine, but I'd like to be able to still get to my profile quicker.

I miss the sidebar to an extent--I actually don't miss the "noise" of the sidebar but I particularly miss the link to the PRD which is handy for PBP especially, and I miss the search being on the side rather than the top (but the latter may take some getting used to). I figure a link to the PRD may hopefully come back as adjustments change. (Interestingly I can still see the sidebar when I look at my profile, but I'm not sure if that will stay).

The front page looks GREAT--the simpler design is waaaaaay better. Thanks for all your hard work, folks!

I assume you're aware that off-topic and other such subforums aren't showing on that "master list"? I think it would be good if they did.

Looks like it's the gamer life subcategory which has been left off. I have to first go to http://paizo.com/community and then choose forums to find those.

Very glad to see this; a proper redesign has been desperately needed for quite some time!

As with any major rollout, there are undoubtedly bugs and quirks. I wish you the best of luck finding them, rolling high initiative, and squashing them before they can bite you.

So, let me provide some feedback on the new look and you can place it where you will:

Every morning, I went to Paizo's messageboards and, without having to click or navigate anywhere, I could see the AP sections, off-topic sections, campaign journals, and all the other sections listed on a single page. I could see all the new posts in all the threads I'd been following, plus new and interesting threads about the APs.

With the new look, I can no longer scan all the forums at once (as far as I can tell), which is a massive usability issue for me.

Is there any chance of an "old-timer's view" page where we can see all the forums at once? Having to go link by link through all the ones I followed is guaranteed to make me stop participating in most of them...

I think bookmarking Vic's link above is useful for that:

http://paizo.com/community/forums

at the moment it's missing gamer life forum, but the others are (mostly) there and it looks pretty much like the old look.

Ah, you caught me too fast! I thought that clicking on "Forums" was the same as the link, but being thorough I copied-and-pasted the URL and it worked fine, and then I bookmarked it and deleted my post.

But obviously too slow, chicken marengo.

And someone already even complained about Off-Topic missing!

Boy, I'm slow!

None of the messageboard side links work on mobile. And the top Community drop down's don't work either. You literally can't get to the general messageboards on mobile.

Campaigns are still available through your profile page.

So I tried accessing my account and then digital assets and got the old:

"Sorry, there was a problem handling your request."

message (plus ca change...).

I have had lots of tabs open though and have been jumping back and forth a bit - I believe that's always been a trigger for that and the other old favorite "You have made too many requests...." Nonetheless, I figured I'd mention it in case it's something significant. It looks like I wouldn't be able to download any PDFs at the moment. (I just tried restarting and still no luck..)

EDIT: https://secure.paizo.com/paizo/account/assets is the link, if it's useful.

I'm having the same problem as Stave about the Gamer Life section not showing up on the main forum page.

I've also got the giant 3" margins on the sides of the screen that are just white space. Either put something in them or (prefered) expand the main text boxes.

And the most annoying, the font shrank.

This layout and design is so much easier on the eyes. I'm loving it so far. Hopefully ironing out the kinks goes smoothly!

What URL are you on? And what browser/OS?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

From http://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures clicking on "Pathfinder Society Scenarios" takes you to http://paizo.com/organizedplay not http://paizo.com/pathfinderSocietyScenarios as the URL preview shows.

From http://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures clicking on "Scenarios" takes you to http://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/pathfinderSociety/pfsrpg
not http://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures/scenarios as the URL preview shows.

Neither of these links takes you to a page showing scenarios. One is PFS Organized play, and the other is a list of many categories of products, not just scenarios.

From http://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures clicking on "Pathfinder Modules" takes you to http://paizo.com/pathfinder with one link which loops to itself.

From http://paizo.com/pathfindersociety/rpg clicking on "Adventures" near the bottom of the page takes you to http://paizo.com/ . Again, not where you wanted to go or the preview URL.

Could we get some redirects set up for the old forum URLs to map them to the new ones, i.e. http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/campaigns/general --> http://paizo.com/community/forums/campaigns/general?

Not him, but I'm using Google Chrome on Windows 10 and everywhere on the forums I have about 2-3 inch borders of empty white space to either side of the posts.

Edit: Same thing for all the store pages.

Edit 2: Even larger borders on the subscriptions page at http://paizo.com/store/subscriptions

1) I can fully appreciate all the incredibly hard work and effort that has gone into making this new and vast change; it is appreciated

2) Is there any way to change the visual of the font, and differentiate color for the links instead of basic font? While I'm not great with change in general, the font is actively unpleasant to my sensibilities - it makes things harder to read and differentiate and feels harsher and less pleasant when I'm reading. The coloring and underlining issues make it more difficult for me to tell where I am and what I'm doing on individual pages or in various posts made by myself and others. I don't... I really don't like to complain, but my eyes have difficulty tracking things on the screen, and (for whatever reason) it's much more difficult to tell what the actual words are on the screen, now, than previously.

Some font script doesn't actually bother - the title of the thread down below, for example - but the actual font design and narrowness of the lettering (or, I guess "thinness" of the lettering? the words are not compact, but the individual letters don't stand out enough) is just difficult to parse. I find myself often blinking and looking away from the screen - anywhere but the screen - while typing.

As a related note to the visual issues, there's a similar lack of distinction (a kind of "faded" appearance) to many of the buttons and outlines - this may be something I get used to in time, however, for now, it's telling me that I'm not signed in and those things are not options, as if I were a guest or it was loading or something. This may just be a remnant of how my rather muddled brain interpreted visuals from the older design and may be a thing I just get used to, later.

3) I am so grateful and thankful for an active, hard-working staff, and I appreciate the gift that is your time, effort and energy, as well as feedback. Any problems may well be unique to myself, but, though I think I'll eventually get used to most of the changes (even if such things aren't my preference) I would genuinely request the ability to change the font to something less unpleasant, if at all possible. I am sorry for bringing a negative slant to something that has so obviously been such a source of hard work and dedication, and look forward to where you all take the site in the future, even if my specific requests are not able to be met.

Peace, and the blessings of the Lord be with you!

I am having literally the opposite experience... maybe it's a browser thing?

I miss the sidebars for ease of time-killing navigation.

I could do with a quicker way to click through to my profile.

Otherwise, you know, "blah blah change bad, grognard grognard." I'll get used to it. ;)

So what I'm seeing is elimination of the sidebar that lets me see interesting thread topics when I'm bored, an additional (small) hurdle I have to go through to see things like my posts and campaigns and such which my phone cannot do (probably because it is old and bad at phoning), and a changing of colors to black, making the site slightly more boring and all the links disguised. All of which are very small/will get fixed, and I respect the very hard work the staff have put into this.
But (probably because I'm too stupid to notice them), I have seen no advantages or other reasons why this change should have happened. :/

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I generally like the new look, but a couple of quick reactions:

- the fonts are too small. Some of us are closer to 50 than 15....

- cannot pull up any of the AP specific pages from http://paizo.com/store/pathfinder/adventures/adventurePath. Clicking on an AP link simply takes you to paizo.com

- overall responsiveness does not seem to be significantly improved, it's still pretty sluggish.

As someone who works on web sites every single day, I can understand all of the hard work that goes into an undertaking of this magnitude. I can't wait to see how it all looks and functions once you guys have had a while longer to clean it up a bit more.

That being said, I am a bit flabbergasted to see that the site doesn't appear to be more responsive. When I change my window size, nothing moves, everything just stays static.

What's Archive for? Is that new? Takes me to a blank page at the moment.

Links on this page...
http://paizo.com/store/gaming/roleplayingGames/p/pathfinderRPG
...are kind of jumbled. Hover over one and it underlines the whole section.

Also, when I copies the URL, why did it give me a different URL...with a /p/ in it?

Seconding (thirding? Fourthing? nthing?) that the lack of a recent updated sidebar being a definite downside. I'm working under the assumption that a lot of stuff had to go in the short term to roll out the new site, so in terms of what you may want to prioritize getting back, well, there's my first vote.

I'll also second what Tacticslion said about the font. For some reason, reading through the board to get here actually managed to give me a headache. I was squinting at the font, and it seems thin in a weird way that kind of drills into my eyes. I don't know if that's just growing pains or an actual legitimate problem, per se, so I'll see if that goes away with time.

A+ on the site's new loading times, it seems to be moving much faster than I'm used to.

And I would like to echo the request that the links be a different color like blue or something, or at least be underlined. Otherwise, it's just guesswork as to where something might be linked, and that's just asking for people to hide secret easter eggs in their posts for no reason.

Not that anyone would do such a thing, of course.

The sidebars missing are an issue but there are work-arounds.

The font, the color of the font, or something is off, I'm fighting a migraine looking at the site right now and I've only been on it about twenty minutes or so.

PLEASE, please, please soften it somehow!

Agreeing with the sidebar and general navigation of the site just seems poor with the new site. The front page looks nice and the month sections is nice.

Links really do need to be different and distinct from the surrounding text. While a change in font/color/whatever on rollover is a nice pretty way of keeping them subtle, please do use internet best practices. It's what we're used to!!

I like the redesign, and I agree that a few bugs are to be expected. The three things I most would like to see soon:

1. restore the sidebars, especially recently posted in threads
2. restore the notification of a new private message at the top of every screen
3. make links stand out from the normal text a little more

Thank you to all those whose hard work has made the website work so much more quickly.

From my understanding, the missing sidebars and such are coming back, they're just absent for the time being. That's good to know! Overall, I like the redesign of the site. It looks nice and sleek, and once all the navigation issues are fixed I'm sure it'll be great.

I would prefer a little more color rather than the grayscale for names and such, I think that would help. I preferred the soft blue rather than these harsher colors, to be honest. Some mixture of the two would probably be fine, though. I just feel like I'm getting a bit of a headache on the site right now.

Also, as a note for the developers, the sidebar DOES show up on mobile browsers, at least for me. Chrome on my phone does show the sidebar. Just thought that might be helpful to know.

I'm finding the exact opposite to be true for me. The font is not as friendly and it seems to be set to "squint-o-vision". At least on my monitor and with my screen settings.

EDIT: And I can't seem to find the Rules Forum at all ...
