A perfectly-formatted joke item paired with a terribly formatted, super-mediocre item...
498 votes.

Panic time, I just hit dedicated voter 2 votes short of where I should.
Did my script miss two votes?
Is your script counting the first one or two that had items from last year?
No I edited those out. But I only got one vote of Wondrous (thanks I had forgotten.)
So that still leaves me missing one vote somehow.
I'll dump the database and rebuild from sniffer logs.

Just saw my item for the first time! That made my day a little bit brighter.
Yay, rebuilt the DB and got the missing vote back. I can't tell what vote it was (I didn't think to record the old db and diff it)
Hmm maybe I'll let you have access to my google doc with all the items I've seen thus far (I might have missed a few.) Maybe you can write a script that recognizes the beginning of entries and sorts them alphabetically or something similarly useful.
I can't use google docs, because I block cookies and such from google. So I can only view them and not real well.
Here is a link on how to sort unique in google docs:

I'm debating throwing it into vi I need more practice with vi anyway... then I can just use grep
Hah! Just got a pairing where the two names are opposite ends of the same spectrum. Picturing the circumstances around getting them both on a single character was an enjoyable way to spend the timer time.

ok another racist item geeze
Just noticed I hit triple Marathon whoot
I am tired of asian-flavored items where I have to look up half the words so I know what they are. Makes phone voting a pain in the butt. Also, if I see another snake-themed item I may eat my own tail...
I store all mine in a file:
Blah item // blah item#2
Then I processes:
That tells me this:
565 votes
Unique Items: 596

We've got 3 more weeks!
Hm...next year I'm going to make armor you gird...
Hello, new staff I haven't seen before. These are lovely abilities you seem to have, but I can't see how many times per day you can do them. Oh wait, this is just flavour text describing what it looks like when your owner casts the spells from you. All you are is a stick with spells. Time to read the other side, and...
Never mind. Enjoy your vote, stick-with-spells.

I'm convinced the items you sort have something to do with your IP address. I have seen the same pool of about 75 items in all manner of stacking against one another.
Try voting though a proxy server?
Then again, I doubt a single person could collect enough data to support any conclusions.
I kinda like you strange item. You aren't on my list but you get my vote again.
I know technology items are ok by the rules, but I am not a fan at all. It was the same thing last year with the mythic items. I am ok with the few mythic I saw this year but last year they got downvoted every time. Sorry tech- you get the downvote from. I like my fantasy traditional.

I think too many people were relying on the "gonzo" factor of tech weapons to see them through. To me, a +X weapon with a SIAC tacked on is just that, whether it's a sword, gun or lightsabre. Some of the tech items are neat, but way too many fall into this trap.
Agreed, Eric. I did see something that I guess would be tech and I upvoted it. It wasn't my favorite but it wasn't a total turn off either.
On another note, numbers and numerals are not interchangable, especially in the same sentence! Either spell out the number(s) or use the numeral(s) throughout. And using numerals to lower your word count is not sneaky nor does it fool people.
This concludes our rant and we now return you to your regularly scheduled voting.
well I'm well into dedicated and still haven't seen my item

I downvote this sword every time I see it. Why does it plague me so?
Apparently I made star voter at some point?
I've seen a number of items that summon a thing, but don't say whether it duplicates a summon monster spell or if not how long the thing stays summoned. Not how you want to do it, folks!
thinking I should play Eye of the Tiger while voting and have a short Irish man yell at me, that is how you get to Champion voter status, it must be. Arg, just realized I am the short Irish looking guy who yells allot, crap....
Me, right now.
Top 32, here I come...
That item is awkward and could use some tuning but...i like it

Must be nice. Haven't even seen mine yet.

Holy crap. That shield could use a little bit of development work, but the idea is fantastic. I wish I'd come up with that one. Absolutely brilliant.
Listen to RATM while voting probably isn't making me more forgiving is it.....
Gauntlets are weird. I mean, they're technically weapons (they're on the weapons table, after all), but they're also wondrous items (see: gauntlet of rust, gauntlets of the skilled maneuver, gauntlets of the weaponmaster, giant fist gauntlets).

Saw my item. After seeing some really well designed items, I now feel bad about my own entry's obvious problem and promise to downvote it accordingly. Happy Voting, all!
This one would be useful at parties.

Oh, just go away item-that-I-will-downvote-every-time-I-promise, just go away. Okay, okay, I'll downvote you again. Unless you get paired against that one I guess. Well, have the most reluctant upvote, ever.
I'm happily resigned to the fact that my idea is suitably unique that no one here will be obviously talking about it, while being suitably worried that someone might be talking about it in extra vague terms. Oh, it isn't worth worrying about.
As for the gravity-influenced items and mist and ash items; I swear, if at least half of you haven't been reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson are are using the same themes in subtly sneaky ways... Well, I forgive you. None of the item have been outright derivative and you can't call a universal concept anything critical, and honestly I would have done that too, in many, many of the cases. Still, items, I am looking at you.
And honestly, item, I kind of wish I had had a decent idea based on that concept. Nicely done. Though not as much as I wished that I had gotten around to writing up that staff, I really wanted to work out, my it jsut felt so boring. Oh well, nicely done, item number x that I couldn't possibly begrudge winning. Thank you for making me feel good about the inevitable not-top 32 result and for giving me time to write my master's thesis.
That would be my moderately lengthy way of saying that there are some nice items out there. I might have to start compiling a personal top 32. Maybe. When I stop voting long enough.

Finally saw my item, and was able to vote with a clear conscience. The other item was missing a very important part of the template. >.>
Oh you nasty item name, you. You do not get away with being called that and getting a vote. No. Really.
And you, sort of joke/sort of playing with rights name. I can't decide if you're being a bit of a joke, but okay within the rights or totally serious, but kind of risky - or just trying to do neither but being a bit "cute" about it. Oh go away. The other one is at least equally nice and doesn't give me a headache.
I'm beginning to have an inner dialogue with too many items. I do not think this is healthy. Time to realize that it's past midnight, make it to 350 unique items in my private list and get some sleep. In that order.
Sigh... Haven't seen mine yet. I haven't hit dedicated so there is still hope.

Alright, giving a two sentence physical description of your staff then listing 4 spells it casts is NOT superstar. It may be thematically correct. It may be a plausible and/or reasonable magic item for a character to possess. But it is NOT superstar.
Boring vs I-want-to-like-you-so-bad-but-you're-just-specific-character-backstory-with -not-at-all-interesting-list-of-multiple-abilities. Well boring, have your vote.

They can do ANYTHING!

I am pretty sure infinitely-reusable resurrection effects should not be affordable by 4th-level characters. Time to vote for the opposition!
...wait, the opposition gives a ridiculous skill bonus for almost no money.
Argh!

There is that "both are equally good/bad button". I've hit that a couple of times.
