250 words and you couldn't be bothered to explain the actual game effects of your item beyond a dismissive hand wave ("the effects should be obvious"), nor do you think it necessary to explain your variable cost? Wtf?
A +1 weapon that costs how much? *Gape*

Well, I lost a day of voting to illness, but it is time to get back on the horse!
So, I have to make a choice from two at character creation, but you allow me to do the other thing as well; whenever I want; for so little outlay?

I'm rather forgiving on this type of stuff, we don't want SIAC so we need to get creative. If the spell is the correct type(give bonuses or damage type) as the effect and in the correct level range I wont hold it against them.
RPG SuperStar Round one is to design an item, so if 90% of your word count is used to describe the new rules you have included, new spells, new feats, new materials etc. then I will down-vote you.

And, that was a nice welcome back! What a beautiful staff! It is my new number 1 and I would be shocked if it did not make top 32.

Nothing has shown up that is similar to my item. I think it can be a positive. I've seen a number of items so far that can say the same thing and they have caught my attention.
Really well imagined suit of armour versus a really well imagined gun. Both well formatted and well described. One slight ambiguity and a marginally low price on the armour hands the round to the gun. Pity I can't vote for both.
Mine is on someone's bingo card, I think, but it's the only one like it that I have seen, so, I have to start questioning putting the idea on a bingo card ;)

The sad part of that is that all that new stuff is not bad at all. That person did a lot right but misunderstood the challenge.

But seriously, Eric and I both said that being on the card isn't a bad thing...
I've crossed off a few items on my card after upvoting the item. Just because I saw you coming doesn't mean you did a bad job.

Okay, so I'm a bit over 500 unique items and have seen several items more 3+ times, some four or five times. Still get new ones every now and again though. But honestly, I could swear I must be right on the corner of 500 votes.
I actually found one goblin items that was not using "GOBLIN!!!" as it's primary justification for doing something completely random. It might even get more than one vote, should I see it again. No promises.
Rings have been acting weird.
And stop importing things from x MMO, movie or game. At best it annoys me. More likely it makes me never, ever vote for you at all, little item.
Ash fell from the sky, mists are all over and we're messing with gravity. Really, Shadows of Self isn't until October and it's been years since Alloy of Law. Who has been subtly priming everyone with Brandon Sanderson? WHO? (I rather want to congratulate the person and try it in the local experiment lab). Okay, no. But honestly, at least 3 in 10 items I see could have their concepts from those books. Could have. Nothing derivative, but... it kind of makes me happy.
I am getting just a little bit tired of seeing item-that-I-promised-myself-I-wouldn't-upvote-again paired with item-that-I-would-never-no-not-even-to-save-my-life-vote-for. It makes me voted for things I really don't want to vote for far too often.
*Breathe*
I am just sorting them. They just get to get voted right back down, once they get paired with a decent item. SURELY that item will never even make it into the top 100, let alone 32. Surely.
*Breathe deeper*
Right, I'm good. And, honestly, there's enough items that do deserve the high spots to make the competition fierce.

If the spell is the correct type(give bonuses or damage type) as the effect and in the correct level range I wont hold it against them. I don't think it is exactly what you think. The item casts the spell. It does not have an effect that is based on the spell or the spell is in the construction requirements because it is closest to the effects of the item. It is the spell with no additions of changes, but then the item describes several ways to use that spell effect that are not part of the spell's intended purpose. A generous GM might allow the spell to be used that way, but IMO a magic item should not imply that these are accepted ways to use that spell. Uses outside the scope of the spell should be left up to GM ruling instead of being forced by the item's description. I hope I didn't give too much away as to what item I'm talking about.
I've just seen something I have to say is my favourite so far. It's an armour with some interesting and non-game-breaking abilities. Straight to the top of my list.
On one hand, I don't want to vote for:
X boring weapon that is really just a siac with no description or excitement
On the other hand, the other one is:
Multiple items
Also undescribed
Also pretty much a few canned spells.
Oh, well, there you go boring siac - at least I liked your name. Now don't come back until you get paired with something that I want to vote for.
Oh, and hello dedicated voter tag. Now I don't have to feel like I'm being like the last years where I totally missed the voting.
Well-designed, fun armor vs. BLOOD GUTS BLOOD-GUTS-BLOOD AGONY PAIN DEATH BLOOD BLOOD BLOOD GORE BLOOD MALICE!!!!
.....
Armor it is...

Been away for two days due to the wedding (married our regional VC) and there's so much to catch up with O.O you guys and gals have been very busy.
I still haven't seen my item, but I noticed it on the list of items someone created... and I wonder when will I get the Star Voter... feels like I've been voting for forever.
nice little weapon, could use some work... oh, *sigh* had to ruin it at the end didn't you. Oh well.

Looks like you just got it!
When something comes along, you must whip it!
EDIT: LOL! First two whips, now two staves. Dueling dualities today.
Why are you all so keen on betraying people, items? Haven't you been told it isn't nice?
Story item created by some powerful BBEG vs story item created by someone to fight someone else.
A lot of staves are out there that are perfectly fine but just not superstar.

If you use terms from second edition, that do not exist in Pathfinder, for example THAC0, then you get the down-vote, period.

Ok, I think some people are as old as I am.
I have started watching them again to confirm my suspicions.
You know what I am on about - the Dungeons and Dragons Cartoon Series Complete DvD Set.
Episode 1... and...
Suspicions confirmed.
And yes, those items are pretty much all in this year's collection (although I haven't found the wizards hat of summoning yet :O -I fully expect that to be a full face helm of some sort).
And I still say Uni is funny!

You're already there
This item functions as wondrous item x until y occurs and then it does z. Hmmm
Items that bring a being into existence (not using any summoning spells) which either fights for you or guards you...
Just saw my item twice in three votes, i'm a little spooked.
I'm seeing a lot of weapons (well, armors too) that have special abilities because they are nice to have...not because they fit thematically AT ALL with the weapon (or armor). And they also do nothing with that ability other than just...have it.
Ooh. My first keeper rod.

Item is an x, until y happens, then it's a z, wouldn't quite be so bad if doing y wasn't in the construction requirements, meaning it was never x in the first place.
A lot of bleed dmg type of items today.

Everytime I see a comment like this, I'm wondering about which items are slipping past me without my recognizing the TV/movie/comic/anime reference.
[paranoia] Even worse, I'm worried my item is accidentally similar to something obviously in pop media. [/paranoia]

I'm sorry that I voted you down before. It was late, I was tired, and I didn't understand. That's subtle and it works so well now that I can see it.
Ambrosia Slaad wrote: [paranoia] Even worse, I'm worried my item is accidentally similar to something obviously in pop media. [/paranoia] Pro tip: do a google search on your item's name and some of the basics of its theme. If you're not confident in this make sure you have a bunch of fellow geeks look at your stuff a.k.a. a pit crew.

Since there are a bunch of them, I have no shame in saying I had no real working knowledge of the chakram beyond "Xena is cool" prior to this contest. However, I wanted to see how they worked in practice and omg, these things are freaking scary in practice.
If your item is vague about how long its effects last or what triggers them I will be much more likely to down vote you over a lackluster item that is concrete and clear.

Ahhh, it's good to see Leonidas entered an item!
Just voted for a tentacle item...
Needs a shower.
