We've had a slow start, and lost two players somewhere along the lines. So I am looking for two replacements.
As long as you keep the character name, and general class, you can remake the character as you will.
The party is just about to leave Sandpoint, looking for information about a suspected demonic cult that has been kidnapping homesteaders in the Varisian wilderness. They are escorting a homesteader family who is their unwitting bait.

Hatim Al-Duri - 3rd level human male mage

As I want to get things moving again, I'll take a character concept, or a writing sample, and you can jump right in, and stat up the character as you go along.
I have this guy mostly statted up and I have a core concept I would love to go with, but I can edit the backstory as you see fit, if you prefer.

If a magus/sorcerer is an acceptable filler for the role of the mage then I would be willing to throw my hat into the game.

I think I will create a character named Leon Sinclair
I rigged up a small backstory but its not much on such short notice. I think it should work with what I know of the setting
For generations, the Sinclair family has bred and trained demon hunters, releasing them into the world to purge the taint of the unholy. The family has been nomadic, never staying in one place long enough to settle down, always moving from hunt to hunt. Over the years the constant skirmishes with the abominations has dwindled the bloodline. Every time a demon would be cut down, a cult abolished, a new one would rise to take its place. But this was not so for the Sinclairs, for each one of theirs that was slain left a void in the family line. Now only a few Sinclairs remain, scattered across the wilderness, constantly questing after the next creature to be slain. Leon Sinclair will change this, it is his birthright. By blood he is the next head of the Sinclair family, and by will he will not see them perish. His uncle taught him the ways of both body and mind and prepared him to take up the mantle of responsibility. He will unite the remaining Sinclairs. He will elevate his family to a whole new plateau of influence and power. And above all, he and his kin will wash the ground in the blood of the demon. Years from now the name "Sinclair" will be spoken will be spoken with hope by righteous mortals and fear by all others, for its utterance would mark an omen of death upon the wicked...

At birth she was chosen by Sarenrae to become an oracle. Her true surname is unknown since he was given to the church of Sarenrae shortly after her birth. At first it was thought she was going to die but through the blessings given by the Dawnflower she lived, although there were some odd side effects that came along with power. She lives each day to the fullest and thanks the sun each day when it rises.

I am currently involved in 4 PbP, and a 5th one that I just started as GM for my table group.
I am active, and have ample time to post while at work (8am-5pm CST) with constant internet access. I typically will post between 3-5 times per day dependent upon the rest of the party's responsiveness. Weekends are tougher, and I might manage 1 post per day.

Unfortunately, I feel awkward stepping into the role of another player while at the same time keeping his name. Is there a reason that it has to be the same out of curiosity? I would really like to play, and I have a character ready, but taking another characters name just doesn't sit right with me.

I am in full agreement with this. It doesn't seem right - plus, we can't actually replicate an alias already in use, in case that was what you were hoping for. Also, it's a bit odd to try to replicate another player's character from a roleplay perspective, in my opinion. But of course, I'm sure you'll find players who don't have that problem. I wish you well in the search!
I would like to replace the female cleric and I have no problem with using her name. Could I possibly do assimar since it won't change much? I will get a crunch together soon and mostly use her backstory!
