Personally, I did not join the Kickstarter to be "first," so to speak; I did it because I knew RA was going to be awesome, and I was lured by the huge number of shiny extras included. I'm sure the vast majority of backers feel the same way.

Also, if I read correctly, Chuck is saying that they're mailing out backer copies within a week from now? *Goes to set up a tent beside the mailbox*

I think so, I don't know the exact timeline so I could be wrong.

EDIT: Bill's post was on the next page for me. I was wrong. ;)

I went absolutely cold until I looked at it myself and what you were saying sunk in.

It's not a mistake, it's a FEATURE! Bonus Map! <grin>

There's also an issue of the Bookmarks not "nesting" properly for Levels 6 through 10C in the PF version.

<snip>

Thanks for pointing it out, Macharius, I'll get it fixed and out to the correct people as soon as I can. (Keep in mind that the correct person to get the new one up is at GenCon, though. :D )

YES.

*looks around* answer to the second question is also apparently YES.

your money in supporting the Kickstarter help get the product into production and print in the first place. Also. When you pledged? You're getting ALOT of extras for your money that those people buying it at GenCon WON'T be getting. Hey but if getting it first is the only thing that matters to you? Then yeah skip the next Kickstarter and wait. But then dot complain about how the people who contributed to the patronage of a product get a bunch of extras while everyone else just gets the product.

Kickstarter s about funding the product first and getting a good value second. At least for me it is.

Oh yeah, reading through the PDF and just found the gravestones.

Thanks Bill, i think mine is excellent!(Michael Salt if anyone is curious XD)

I was just giving MY opinion on how I feel. I think you are being a real jerk for calling me an idiot. Those extras were not free. I paid for them. I was also trying to be supportive of FGG. I just figured FGG would ship the books first to those who supported them when they needed help. I was wrong. I should have known better. I understand FGG wanted to sell copies at Gencon. No problem. They need the sales they would get there. They should have let the Kickstarter supporters know that we would not get the books ahead of others even though we have already paid. That would have been fine. It bothers me when I have already paid for something and others get it first who have not already paid. This happened to me with The Slumbering Tsar Saga. I pre-ordered it and paid for it several months before release. It was in the stores well before my copy was shipped. Sorry to be so negative. I am actually a fan of FGG and before Necromancer Games. I think in the future I will not pre-order anything and just wait until I see it for sale.

He didn't call you an idiot. You used that word yourself.

You're only shooting yourself in the foot by not taking advantage of the awesome pre-order or patronage deals.

It'd be cool to have the physical book in my hand, but if you were part of the Kickstarter, you've got the PDF to tide you over if you simply can't wait.

It's not as if it's been months or even weeks that other people have had the book and you don't. It's been a couple of days.

Scarab Sages

Hi Frogs,
I think I may have spotted a little typo in the PDF.

Page 572 Archwizard Prestige Class.
In the "Spells" part of the Requirements it stats that you need to be able to cast 8th level spells.

In the Spells per Day/Spells Known section it reads "If a caster had more than one arcane spell casting class in which he could cast 7th level spells..." [Shouldn't this line say "... he could cast 8th level spells..."]

I pledged for an adventure from Gaming Paper that finished about a week and a half before RA. I received my pdf about a week and a half before the pdf for RA. I have a rough delivery estimate, mostly based on lead time from a completely different company, for one, and no shipping details for the other. The later is a 54 page adventure, the former 673+ pages of awesome. Nothing against Gaming Paper, because, as far as I know, they don't have copies to sell yet, but RA was both a larger undertaking, and a bigger success in terms of quick delivery.

As a backer, I'm glad that people at Gen Con can by the book. We made that happen. The people that are sitting at the con with their copies of the book are doing so because of us. They are gleefully killing pc's (and maybe a few monsters die, too) because of us. I'm proud of that fact. I don't feel like an idiot for pledging, I feel like a contributor to the fun that hundreds of people are going to have because we came together and made such an excellent product happen.

Add to that the fact that we got a ton of extra swag, and I'm sure there are people at the con feeling like idiots for NOT pledging. Realizing now that if the actual book is this amazing, how much cooler would it be to also have level 7b, plus the Cyclopean Deeps, plus the players guide and bestiary to round the whole thing out. I know if I hadn't pledged, and then seen the finished project, and realized that I could have had my name in the back of the book, I would definitely feel like a fool.

Reading the rest of these recent posts, it looks like I'm not the only one who feels the way that I do. It also seems that you are, in fact the only one who feels the way you do.

EDIT: Point in fact, those extras were free.

Rappan Athuk Kickstarter said wrote:
$250 Pledge - Exclusive Bonus module "Level 7B Caves and Caverns of the Ancient Gods" that will never be released for sale and the exclusive Frog God Games battlemap, along with a Froggy T-shirt, plus your signed & numbered hardcover copy, your choice of unpainted Reaper Miniature (see pledge notes), PDF, plus the option to add your name at the back of the book as a Death Knight of Orcus & Tsathogga.

That's what I paid for, up front, with nothing else promised.

Rappan Athuk Kickstarter said wrote:
$250 Pledge - PDF of "Bill's 100 Lines", wallpaper artwork of Rappan Athuk Cover Art, special tribute illustration, Name in Book, Player's Guide w/ PDF, Printer pre-generated characters with PDF, Orcus Button, PDF of Rappan Athuk (Both versions), Signed & Numbered Hardcover of Rappan Athuk, Book of Maps, Softcover of "Cyclopean Deeps" bonus modules 1 & 2 with PDFs, The Windfall PDF, Froggie T-shirt, Miniature, Bonus 7B Module, Battle Mat, GM Screen, D20 Digital Mapset and Hero Lab Data files, softcover copy of the Bestiary, 1 set of custom dice, and poster of the cross section.

That's what my final package is. Plus a dice bag for me and one for my gf.

Basically, I pledged for a Book, a module, a battlemap, a t-shirt, a mini, a single pdf, and my name in the book. Everything after that was not in the original deal, and was, in fact, free.

If you'd been paying attention to this thread and reading all the posts, you would know that FGG didn't receive their shipment from the printers in time to process the 1002 individual orders (some of which are extremely complicated and have issues that still haven't been sorted out) and that you wouldn't receive your order before Gen Con. So yes, they did tell you that your order wouldn't be shipped before GenCon.

I would also like to point out that, even if they had received the RA books from their printer in time to process those aforementioned 1002 orders, it is some of those "extras" that are delaying shipment as they haven't come back from their respective manufacturer (Chessex, apparently, and the dice).

Am I disappointed that I couldn't get my grubby little hands on the books three days ago? Sure, but not enough to get my expectations blown out of proportion.

I never said I was an idiot. I said I felt like one. One thing I have learned from this board is that you are NOT allowed an opinion different from the majority. It would have been nice for FGG to have sent an e-mail saying that due to printing problems your shipment will be delayed and we are sorry to not get the book out to you first but we need the sales at GenCon. I am sure that is how they felt. I bet they did mean to send it to the kickstarter supporters first but FG just didn't bother saying so. I am going to give them the benefit of the doubt and be positive.

Scarab Sages

All I can add is that you should really go back and re-read your initial post. Your opinion got muted by the negativity, and that is what people are seeing when they read it and respond to it.

Youre totally allowed to have an opinion. But just because you have one and post it on a message board doesn't make you immune from people commenting ON your opinion. If you cant handle that aspect of it then dont post. I've posted unpopular opinions before both here and on other boards and have been taken to task for them. That's just the name of the game.

As for the idiot comment? I never called you an idiot. YOU said you felt like an idiot. My agreement with that statement was basically saying that you should. Most people who plop down money for a Kickstarter actually know how funding a Kickstarter works and if they dont then that's on them. It's your money and you should be aware of the details. Hell they send out updates and are very active on the comments and thier own boards (as well as this one). Theyre not trying to pull a fast one or cheat anyone out of anything. Theyre not purposefully trying to deny you what is rightfully yours. I get that youre a fan but sometimes the FANATIC part of that whole fan thing? can feel a little too self entitled for it's own good.

Anyway sorry for agreeing with you that you should feel like an idiot. Also, sorry about calling you self-entitled.

I can understand about being put-out by non-kickstarter-supporters getting their physical copy first - I felt the same way. However, once I got the PDF, I was fine. ;) I can wait for the rest if it.

Of course, I have an iPad, so I love PDFs.

Frog God Games

And you did get the PDF before the books went for sale up at GenCon. :)

The only folks who got to see the new material sooner were people working on the books and some reviewers.

PathfinderFan64 wrote:

You're kidding, right? Because if you learned that, it wasn't from this board.

Dragon. I'll call you when I pack your stuff. Don't worry about postage. At your level and in the USA frankly it's not keeping me awake at night. On gen on, they dont get any extra goodies. The purpose of the kickstarter was to get us into distribution. I don't even have books yet. I wanted paizo to have some for the show, so we paid a bunch of money to get them there

Bill: Got any awesome pics of the books at the con?

PathfinderFan64 wrote:

Got it. Emotions registered. Please refer to posts appealing to your intellect.

Seriously. Think about that for a second. A lot of people use "I feel" when expressing themselves and assign that a high order of importance. Feelings are real, but they are often based on irrational factors. This might be one.

Dude. Re-read those sentences. "I made some stuff up in my mind. I admit the stuff I made up wasn't right. FGG should have told me the fiction I made up wasn't real." That's what you just said.

Quote:

You have paid for a bundle of X, Y, and Z. Z isn't ready yet so nobody gets that bundle before you do but it turns out that a small number of people are able to purchase X right now for the price you're going to get your bundle for. All they get is X. Meanwhile as it happens you have Y.

Quote:
This happened to me with The Slumbering Tsar Saga. I pre-ordered it and paid for it several months before release. It was in the stores well before my copy was shipped.

Something very odd happened to you then. I'm in Canada and I got my Tsar (of which tonight's session #3 went nicely by the way) well before it was available any other way.

Quote:

Because... you will gain... what? Right. You will lose things like all the bonus material people who do pre-order get.

Friend... nose, face, cut off, to spite.

Turn off your emotional sense of entitlement to something a} meaningless and b} not promised to you. Turn on your brain and let it override your pride. Being the first kid on the block to have the latest G.I. Joe has value right up until everyone else has him. Which in the RPG business is a matter of a couple days. Being first has zero value. Getting bonus materials has large, tangible, real value. Use your grey matter not your red matter and focus on "me want more". Give caveman Ugh some more neat stuff, don't take his stuff away.

I'm not trying to insult you in any of this... I'm trying to illuminate another way of looking at the situation that lets you win.

Frog God Games

The Slumbering Tsar Saga was for sale before those who pre-ordered the books.

Because stores broke the street date.

There is absolute zero we can do about that.

They won't get one signed and numbered #333 at Gen Con! #333 RA Pathfinder + #333 RA Box set = :)

Chuck Wright wrote:

Hey Bill. I hope the show at GenCon went well.

First I just want to say to Frog God Games that after going back several pages and reading that I was wrong. I apologize. I really do mean that too.
I also want to say that my original comment was about a company and was not directed at any individual but the comments later from individuals were directed at me directly. I believe that is a violation of the forum rules. I have a right to say my opinion about a company even though I now admit I was wrong. I know what the world thinks about the gaming community and gamers. Funny how gamers turn on gamers because they have a different opinion that does not even concern them. Again I am sorry FGG.

Well, here we are. It's Monday morning after GenCon. The RA pdfs have been released, and look awesome. Really great stuff FGG.

But now I have to ask yet another of those 'when' questions....so, here goes:

How are the d20Pro map files and HeroLab portfolio files coming along? They are the last piece of the puzzle, at least for my group. Once we have those, we are off to the big city. Or dungeon, as it were.

I can say that our crack team of HL file converters met with the Lone Wolf guys at GenCon, and some bugs/glitches that were harassing us have been identified, and are being resolved at this time. I honestly don't know that status of the d20 Pro stuff right now, still fighting off a BAD case of jet lag (just got back from Europe).

I would say the HL files will be in the next few weeks, I know that doesnt help a lot, but this is our trial run at an effort of this magnitude, and I'd rather have the files right, than have them right now.

The team is doing a great job, and we will have them out to you guys as soon as they meet our quality.

Thanks!

SG,

Thanks for the update sir. A few more weeks for the HL files is probably a good thing; if they were out sooner then my players might not want to finish Skull and Shackles! Once they know the HL files are available, they're gonna want to start RA something fierce.

As far as the d20Pro maps, I'll certainly be glad when they do become available, but creating the maps is an easier process for me than the HL files, so I'm not really worried about them (though I am, of course, looking forward to them).

Hope you had fun in Europe!

Random question to GM's who are either about to or are currently running running RA.
Were are you starting your campaign and what level?
Are you you starting your players out at level 1 starting at Zelkor's Ferry or at a higher level starting somewhere else?

Frog God Games

DRagon--know you were at Paizocon--you live locally?

Frog God Games

Harper--I recommend level 1 and let them roam--they need to learn how to run away--but yes--the ZF area is a good starter zone--will hav e more low levels coming w/ the subscription soon as well. The Mouths of Madness is pretty forgiving--its a decent training ground area for low level dudes and dudettes.

I recommend level 4+ to start the dungeon itself--really 6+--but a good set of players w/ magic weps can handle the starter area. Would not go down the well at <8th level or so (assumes party of 4+, or 6+ at level 4).

Scarab Sages

Bill,
Many thanks! [Never thought I'd be getting suggestions from the writer of a campaign on how to start it! So awesome!]

There is a growing number of people over here in Nottingham (UK) that's loving your work. (Granted it's my fault!)

Damn, I totally forgot that I ordered the sub at the close of the kickstarter.

A general question - when does the RA sub start and finish? What I mean is - is it a year or six month run (I thought it was the latter) or some other time frame?

So any idea when the PDF of this will be available?
