I've only once prior had a case where I didn't get one figure. Think it was was the Morrigna Psychopomp from Lastwall, which was a Rare at least. I tracked one down later for completion, but that was one that was just a shrug for me.

It was weird getting a 0 for an Uncommon though. The gnome warrior is a repaint of the deep gnome warrior in the same set, and I did get 5 of the latter. Did the repaints throw off the collation? Took a real close look at the 5, and they are all the deep gnome paint job.

The drow warrior (crossbow) was a variant, along with the (rapier) one - wondering if the 2 of them are collectively Uncommon instead of each being Uncommon in its own right?

I always buy some post-case singles anyway, so I got to buy more of the cheaply priced figures this time around. I got more of the big figures than I thought I would get (leng spiders, admantine golems, treants/regents), so that helped out there.

Scarab Sages

The only one I ever had to replace was a Greta from Reign of Winter, who only had one arm (thoroughly searched that booster for it to no avail). My friend is good, but not that good! It was before I knew about the WizKids replacement policy, but Paizo sent me out the replacement.

Most of the breaks are the clear plastic "posts" holding the figure aloft had snapped. As long as they can be fixed, I can live with the repairs. For me, it feels wasteful to get them to ship something out when we can fix it. Plus you may have to ship the broken ones back to them and there may be shipping costs too.

Well....this turned out to be my most disappointing set ever. Maybe I've been really lucky in the past, but I'm guessing I've had maybe 20 broken figures in the entire line of Cases from Heroes and Monsters to present (I'm not counting singles here, just ones from Cases). 11 of the broken were in this set, including all 4 Skavelings and 3 of the 4 Leng Spiders. Had 2 Rares among the breaks as well (D'ziriak and Tengu Jinx Eater).

The distribution seemed off as well. I had 6 Uncommons where I only got 1 figure - Attic Whisperer, Lurker in Light, Blood Mist, Drow Priestess, Scarecrow, and Drow Warrior (Rapier). That was better than Gnome Warrior and Drow Warrior (crossbow) where I didn't get any.

One of the guys in my group is really handy at fixing the broken ones so it's not the end of the world, but it's still a bit disappointing.(I know both issues are WizKids issues, not Paizo).

Scarab Sages

Any idea what the shipping for the PF Battles case will be (just the case, no premium)?

Scarab Sages

Bestiary 2 (PF1) has it:
"Most leng spiders possess only 7 legs, but some possess 9, 11, or only 5—they never possess an even number."

Scarab Sages

Some interesting figures here. Are the images for the Leng Spider and Shoggoth missing or were they already posted elsewhere and I missed it?

On a side note, are the premium painted figures available to be purchased? They still show as "Preorder expected September 2020".

Also, were there any repaints done this year as promotional miniatures for Cons and such?

Scarab Sages

Definitely interested to see if we can get an answer on the 6 Premium Painted Figures still showing as Preorder September 2020.

I'm a big fan of the dungeon dressing. That being said, I'd always prefer the Premium figure(s) to be creatures rather than some sort of set piece (Inn, Thieves Guild, Throne Room, etc.) that should really be its own separate thing. While I do grab the dungeon dressing, I prefer random instances of them as opposed to a thematic collection of them (i.e. stuff found in a wizard's lab). I haven't minded the dressing that has been interspersed within a set. The premiums though, those are all or nothing in terms of use (well, the Inn is useful from time to time).

I've been a Battles subscriber since the first set, and I only had one instance where I did not get a full set, just missing one medium Rare. I've had a weird distribution a few times, where I small number (2 or 3) of Common figures, but those are cheap and easy to get more if I wanted to do so.

Scarab Sages

Yeah, I have some other stuff in my cart and figured the figures would be cheaper here with the discount. Have a CoolStuffInc order coming in today with some 5e F&T singles and held off ordering the PF Premiums there to see what the price difference was.

For people looking for that forum (it's location is not as easily found as it could be), it's here:

I'd be all over a Dungeon Dressing pack or such. Though I prefer a collection of various useful things more than an integrated set piece (like the Throne room or the guildmaster set). Just basic terrain pieces are highly useful, though I have a number on non-Paizo pieces for rocks, trees, some Dwarven Forge dungeon/cave pieces, terrain sheets for water/lava/ice/slime, etc. Flight elevation risers and tiers are also highly useful as well.

Our implementation of the above is fairly basic in terms of other awesomeness I've seen online. Our game table has a grid on top, and we stage the terrain on top. Getting that 3rd dimension to the table has made a difference for us, a searching character moves the desk to indicate where he is specifically searching ( a bit of the old school style).

Scarab Sages

The singles were in addition to the case. We've got a table of 8, so I like to get some of the commons/uncommons in higher numbers and also even out any weird case distributions (centaurs for me). I may get an extra or a rare creature, like the Offalth and the Angel. We use the dressing a lot more than some of the creatures in a set, so I will usually pick up extras where it makes sense (statue, mirror). So if a room has a hall of mirrors, we've got a hall of mirrors. For us, we'd get far more use out of them than from any kind of harpy as an example (don't know why, we've just rarely ever used them).

Scarab Sages

Awesome, thanks! In the "good timing" department, my Lost Omens singles order just got locked down for shipping on Saturday, so I may just get this from a store despite the 30%, given the shipping to just send this pack. Definitely going to get it.

Scarab Sages

What are these new figures?

Scarab Sages

Zero the Nothing wrote:

Ya know you can makes things how you want them in your own home games, right?

I think the real complaint is that did we really need to prioritize having both male and female harpies (monsters) over having the other male and female options for PC character types that we are still waiting to see? The latter would be far more useful IMO.

I don't have a problem with a figure. It can be some weaker distant relative of the harpies for those who must stick closer to the myths.

Frod God has released a new Kickstarter for a Swords and Wizardry boxed set, with a number of early bird pledges for the first 24 hours. Project funded in about 30 minutes, so it's already in stretch goal territory.

Quote:

What is Swords & Wizardry?

Swords & Wizardry is more than a re-statement of the original rules that gave rise to 5e. It is fast-playing, easy to start, and easy to learn by anyone. Swords and Wizardry is a snapshot of the rules as they existed in 1978 right before "first edition" was released. The fifth edition game currently played, watched and beloved by millions is great fun, but the structure of the rules has changed over the course of editions, and there's a unique feel to the earlier versions of the game which you may not have encountered before.

The rules in Swords & Wizardry are based on the original 1974 game, plus all of the supplements released from 1974 to 1978, articles in the Strategic Review and the Dragon magazine from that period, plus tips for house rules choices. The rules are organized in a more modern fashion than the original books, and are more accessible to those who started gaming after the 1970s.

Scarab Sages

makes me wonder if sales were slow with this last set, since it had a number of creatures previously done (but with new art)?

We have decided to return to our roots. Let us present Tome of Horrors 2020! This beast of a full-color book contains over 250 monsters for use in your 5th Edition game, and is the sequel to our prior Tome of Horrors Fifth Edition with a completely new horde of denizens.

Necromancer Games has always been known for its monsters, and we have added Instant Encounter stretch goals to help you get these guys into your game immediately after getting your book (or PDF). After all, who wants their players to know the details of what they are fighting?

Tome of Horrors 2020 is bursting with monsters which are representative of both modern RPGs and the classic, oft fatal, systems of yore. Use these dangerous creatures, sinister adversaries, restless dead, and other horrific monstrosities to gleefully challenge your players' expectations.

My only concern will be if "Among the many monsters in the Pathfinder Bestiary that got a makeover between editions" continues into the next set that follows. While understanding that many common figures are in this lead-off set so that new players of this new edition can get some of the more common creatures, I'd easily use PF1 minis for creatures in PF2 scenarios without any qualms.

The World of the Lost Lands Kickstarter successfully funded in April, and last update indicates a Dec/Jan timeline for when it will be ready, which you'd be able to order it.

If you click the Frog God Games underneath "Created By" on the main Kickstarter page, you can click the "26 created" projects link to see the other parts of the world that are in the works (Grand Duchy of Reme) or have been released (Sword of Air, Borderland Provinces, etc.)

Definitely finding the number of redraws (goblins, orcs, kobolds, etc) of previously released miniatures concerning. Hoping this is just happening for the first PF2 Battles release and not a harbinger of things to come. There will be a deluge of 3PP releasing "new" PF2 modules which are just updated versions of a PF1 module, so I likewise don't want to see this become a thing for miniatures where the sets have figures that have been in other sets but look different due to new art.

Contrary to popular belief, Mark is indeed a person, and does indeed have other duties in the company than just writing blog posts. My point is mostly that if a release of the mini's lines does less than expected sales, it's not going to ruin the company as a whole. If the rulebook relaunch does less than expected, that's it, no more books, and no more minis.

I guess Mark having other duties ties into that "He's likely busy with other things" that I wrote. We've also had "My bet is that we will not be seeing any previews until after GenCon" and "Everything is being pushed around by PF2's launch" from others, so I think Popular Opinion around here is in tune with reality. I expect Mark will come through with the previews after GenCon, and we are stressing their importance to us as buyers of the product.

My point is that the next case will be coming out soon. Even if PF2 turns into a complete debacle, the next set of minis is still going to be released since they have been produced. We will still be paying for it. Say hypothetically they cancel the next Battles set because of issues with PF2 (worst case scenario), we won't be charged for it. Not a huge issue there, not being charged for a non-product.

It's not "people" writing the mini blogs, it's Mark. Has he been writing these other blogs being posted? He usually has his name at the bottom of his posts, and I haven't seen that in any of the recent blogs posts. He's likely busy with other things, but I don't think the reason you provided has anything to do with this issue.

Cori Marie wrote:
I absolutely get that minis are super important for you. I do. But for many of us we'd rather see new information about the new edition. In Pathfinder every player does need access to the Core Rulebook, because there is no separate Player's Handbook like in DND. Whether that's a copy of their own, or using someone else's, you can't build a character without one. And again, minis are not required. Other options include Pawns, Tokens, paper minis, or just using a dry erase board. I'd also like to reiterate that minis and pawns are largely edition agnostic. Any mini or pawn you already own is still usable. Nobody is going to slap your hand and say "That's a first edition mini!"

We get that there is high interest in PF2 and the new rulebook as people decide whether to invest the money in getting the new book. However, we are concerned with buying a product that costs around TEN times the price of that book. I'd wager most of us don't wish to spend that amount of money blindly (via our subscription) without knowing what's going to be in the set. Is that being unreasonable?

We all understand there is an enormous effort around the PF2 launch. We just want to make sure the PF Battles communication doesn't get lost in all of the chaos.

Really? So if a company doesn't do much/anything with Kickstarter, does that mean you pay them less attention?

Just making sure: I'm just trying to understand the market and customer behavior, not accusing.

For the most part, I've moved towards larger compilations for PF1 and not picking off smaller works like in years' past. I'm more likely to consider a bundle of shorter related pieces than one by itself.

Part of it is looking towards PF2, and part of it is a shift in what we play for d&d (more 5e and more old school). Aside from the larger KS stuff, most of my PF1 purchases tend to be things that are useful in an almost system neutral fashion.

(Also a lot more Call of Cthulhu as compared to PF/d&d, though that's not really relevant to what you were asking)
